Julian made his way in to the lounge and Emily heard André calling out for her. With a little hop in her step she made her way into the dining area and towards the kitchen where André was busying himself with the tea "Of course, love." She smiled, placing the present Julian had given her down on the table and getting together a little plate of shortbread biscuits, all home made by André and absolutely delicious! The man had a knack for cooking and Emily was definitely jealous of it! She was never really talented in the kitchen and unfortunately both Paris and Dorcas seemed to take after her. Not that it mattered. Paris was about the same level as her and Dorcas was surviving. Emily liked to see to it that she sent over meals on Wednesday's so she knew her Dorcas was getting at least one decent mean during the weekdays and on the weekends she was over for Sunday lunch so that was at least something. She also had the cafeteria at work and she was known to frequent the local take away places. The amount of take away containers she often had in her fridge should have been criminal but she showed no interest in learning to cook and while you could lead a unicorn to water, you couldn't make it cook a damned thing.
Emily placed the biscuits down on the tray and André was off on his way into the lounge. Emily picked up the gift Julian had given her for herself and André and followed in after to see him placing the tray down on the table. She placed the gift from Julian in under the tree and made her way to the entrance again, calling up the stairs, "Cassie, do you need any help with Ariel?" She called, knowing the answer ahead of time anyway. Dorcas may have claimed to dislike children, and babies in particular, but she'd really taken a shine to River's and Bert's little girl and it was positively heart warming for Emily. She still hadn't given up hope that she might some day have a grandchild of her own, but really Ariel was almost like a grandchild to the couple. There was no blood relation there but there wasn't anything she and André wouldn't do for Ariel and they loved her just as they would any of their own grandchildren and any time they could have with her they absolutely cherished.

Dorcas happily stole Ariel away upstairs, giving her cheek a little eskimo kiss as they went, grinning like a fool while Ariel had her fist in her mouth. Genius and this kid did not really go hand in hand in Dorcas' opinion but then what did she know of babies? Was she supposed to be walking by now? Dorcas wasn't sure, but she was getting a hell of a lot better at supporting her own head so that was good. She could almost stay sat up alone without toppling over. Of course she did topple and Dorcas always had cushions and pillows around her as well as staying right by her side, but she'd dare not let Dorian see her do that with the little monkey, he'd probably have some form of heart attack and ban her from seeing Ariel ever again. Ha! She'd like to see him try. Ariel, while only a baby, was a lot cooler and more tolerable than most people and Dorcas loved the little blob monster, even if she had done a decent amount of poo-explosions in her short time on this planet. Four months old and already giving people a reason to remember her name. The kid was pretty epic.
Walking down the hall, chatting away about Christmas and what they were going to do in a bit to Ariel Dorcas walked the hallway to her room at her parents house and opened up the door. It was always kept perfect by her mother and Dorcas suspected the bed sheets were changed weekly, even though they were never used. Dorcas had no idea how often the bedsheets in her spare room were changed because she never did them. She didn't see the point if they weren't going to be used, but she had a feeling her mother changed them every now and then and possibly Rodolphus' house elf too whenever he was about the place cleaning up and making the place shine. "Okay," She said, closing the door behind them, "I need your help." She told the little four month old child that probably only understood about three words of the entire English language in the first place. "You're responsible for making me look good today," She said, opening the wardrobe and then pulling off completely Ariel's little coat, tossing it on to the bed. "So what do you think?" She asked, holding the baby up to face level and looking at her big blue eyes before turning her head to the wardrobe of clothes, "I know," She continued and then looked back to Ariel, "It's mostly dresses - ugh - but I bet your taste is better than Daddy-Dor's who I suspect would see everyone in some kind of suit."
Stepping towards the wardrobe more Dorcas rested Ariel against the side of her chest, arm creating a cradled seat for her so she faced out towards the clothes. Over the last couple of months Dorcas had found handling Ariel a hell of a lot easier. When she'd been a tiny, new little human Dorcas had been petrified of breaking her but the confidence built up, especially once she had more control of her head and people stopped nagging to support the baby's head. As if she didn't at least know that much about babies. "Just throw up on anything you don't like and I'll wear whatever's clean when your done." She said, keeping a bit of humour between the two of them. Back when she was a tiny little babe, smaller than now, every time Dorcas had held her she'd thrown up. It was gross. The kid could really chuck and the smell of the stale milk just churned Dorcas' stomach, but she'd learnt to hold her drink now which gave Dorcas hopes she'd do well when it came to alcohol. Not that she'd voiced that opinion to anyone. "Or we'll just do this." Dorcas picked out a couple of dresses, moving them to the middle of the rail. She grabbed a couple more and moved them to the middle with the other two too. "Okay," She said, sliding her free hand in under the sleeves of the four dresses she'd be at least a little comfortable wearing today. "Pick away." She held the sleeves out to Ariel who seemed completely disinterested. Dorcas was disappointed. Babies were not smart, or at least this one wasn't. "Just one, that's all you gotta do." She urged, looking down at Ariel who was just content being held.
It didn't take long, although it felt like forever to Dorcas, but Ariel's drool covered hand reached out and grabbed a green sleeve. Looking at the sleeve now Dorcas was not going to wear that dress. She pulled the dress out of the wardrobe and threw it on the bed where her mum would probably wash it at a later date for her, not that she was in any rush, she barely ever wore anything she had kept here but that dress now had baby drool all over it and Dorcas had no idea how to clean that off properly without a full wash. "Let's go with the one next to it then." Dorcas pulled out the purple dress and threw that down on her bed across the pillows. She shut the wardrobe up and turned about, stepping towards the bed and laying Ariel down. "Okay, lets see what daddy-Dor dressed you in." She straightened out her little outfit, "Acceptable I guess, but you'd look better in green." She gave the little baby a wink then got herself dressed. Ariel seemed easily amused by gnawing on her own hands and Dorcas was dressed the fastest she'd ever dressed herself before, ready to pick ariel up for more cuddles. "Time for the best part." She grinned, picking Ariel up off the bed and moving to the chest at the end of the bed. "Now people will tell you in life that money can't buy happiness, and they're right, however the next best thing is definitely shoes." She told the four month old who hadn't a single care in the world right now. "Now shoe selection is slim." She said, pulling out a couple of pairs. "What do you think, gold or ivory?" Ariel didn't choose but Dorcas followed her gaze and it was close enough to the ivory shoes so she threw those up on the bed and dumped the gold ones back in the chest, shutting it back up again.
"Accessories." She told Ariel, "Well there's not a whole lot of choice there either." She said, sitting down on the edge of her bed and pulling open her bedside draw. She opened a little box that was sat in there and pulled out a bracelet, necklace and watch. Usually they weren't in there but she'd brought them with her incase they'd look better with whatever she decided to wear than the silver she usually favoured. "Now some boys are total stupid stink-butts and buy you these stupid tiny rocks that - for some reason - cost an absolute fortune." She said showing Ariel the bracelet. The baby looked at it and reached for it, giving Dorcas good reason to chuckle. She had expensive taste apparently. Dorian was going to be needed a promotion to keep this girl happy. "Okay, you-" Dorcas looked to the bedroom door as she heard her mum calling up. Ariel had partial hold of the diamond bracelet and Dorcas stood, making her way to the door, opening it up, "Nope." She called back down, more than capable of handling Ariel alone, and proceeded to shut the door. Ariel was very much getting in to the bracelet when Dorcas looked down. She'd pulled it towards her and she was trying to suck or gnaw on the thing, "Ahh that's a no-no, baby. Daddy-Dor will kill me if you literally start shitting diamonds - I mean pooping! Pooping diamonds." She got the bracelet off of Ariel without any fuss and laid the baby on her belly on the bed. "Try and crawl." She encouraged, sitting next to Ariel and putting on her jewellery. "Not today?" She questioned Ariel once she was done with the shiny stuff, "Just as well, being self-sufficient can be a little overrated at times. Milk this baby lark while you can, sweetness." Dorcas ran her hand over the top of Ariel's head and adjusted her bow. Next were the shoes and she supposed she might even check Ariels nappy in a second to make sure she was all dry. The cutest little blob in the world was just so easy and content with life it was kind of refreshing. The baby was definitely better company than most other people in the world, that was for sure.

Dreaming of a Family Christmas Dorian gave a pretty good hand shake, and Jules returned it with a grin, half enjoying seeing the older man so comfortable in his surroundings, and half annoyed that Julian was the only one today who would feel like a fish out of water. Luckily he was brimming with confidence and well able to fake it, even if he did feel like the outsider, he would come across as nothing short of happy and settled today. A sense of mind anxiety rushed through him without warning when Dorian spoke of Ariel, and how she was upstairs with Dorcas as they spoke. He wanted to storm up there and take his niece away from... well, who in Merlin's name was she, anyway!? Her family were all very nice so far, but Julian really had no clue what they were doing in Ariel's life. Of course Dorcas fit the role of Dorian's girlfriend pretty well, but it wasn't something Julian would bring up in conversation yet, prying into his brother's relationships was something that required a little bit more familiarity, but if she wasn't his girlfriend, then what was she? His bloody maid? Emily was certainly his nanny, and it annoyed Jules that these people probably spent more time with Ariel than he would get to for quite a while. Swallowing down his annoyance as Dorian took a seat, he nodded. "And I, her. I wouldn't miss it for the world," he confirmed, knowing he would be far more pleased to see little Ariel than anyone else, though she likely would still have no idea who he was. He hadn't been in her life long enough, and despite forcing himself into her world, a few visits and knocking unannounced on Dorian's door whenever he felt like it was not enough to form a strong bond between uncle and niece yet. He would get there, by hell or high water, he would get there, but for now he'd gladly work for her trust and love. She would certainly love him a damn sight more than any of these Meadowes people. Another of them entered the room, this time a tall man with grey hair and a smile that was far too sunny, yet Jules returned it as he shook the man's hand. "Andre, is it?" he checked politely, not wanting to mistake Emily's brother for her husband or something, which would only make his job of feigning comfort that bit harder. "I'm wonderful, and yourself? It's lovely to meet you," he wanted to take a step back away from the man but the tree was behind him and knocking over their tree on Christmas Day wasn't going to be a clever idea, so he took a step forward instead, placing his hand on Andre's shoulder in much the same manner Andre had done to him, and guiding him across the room a little to a spot where Jules didn't feel caged in. "Dinner smells delicious. Are you the chef?" He asked, that charm oozing from him in spades as he pretended he didn't hear the bellowing up and down the stairs between Emily and Dorcas, who very much needed to bring his niece down to see him before he asked where the bathroom was so he could 'accidentally' barge in on her and take Ariel away anyway. _______________________ tag: Dorian Michael Humbert , André Daniel Meadowes , Emily Jane Meadowes , Dorcas Amilie Meadowes and Geralina Amara Drake notes: Outfit. <3 template by izzy[googlefont="Dancing Script"]

Christmas was one of André's favourite times of year, to have the family under one roof was just wonderful. Of course it was like this most weekends considering there weren't all that many in the family but when it was Christmas there just seemed to be something special and extra magical about the occasion. The food, the atmosphere, the cold weather and the roaring fire. The decorations and continuing traditions. It was wonderful to André, he and Emily were so family orientated that to get everyone together, even if they weren't blood related, was such a fulfilling feeling. They were of course missing some loved ones, Paris wouldn't be with them this year but they would have the pleasure of Geralina's company and he and Emily thought the absolute world of Geralina. Tersha was spending this Christmas with her own parents but the Meadowes' were playing host to young Julian here who seemed absolutely delightful. It would have been more wonderful to have had River and Bert with them but life was full of evil, heartbreaking bludgers that stole good people from their lives all too soon.
"Yes, yes," he said with a beaming smile, positively delightful, "I'm absolutely wonderful. It's an absolute pleasure to be meeting you." He'd heard a little about Julian through his chats with River and a little through Emily from her brief encounter with him. Dorcas hadn't mentioned anything of him but she wasn't always the chatty type so whether or not she'd met Julian before André wasn't certain. "I am, Chef André at your service." He chuckled, "Though I should be returning to the kitchen. Can't be go ruining lunch on a day like today!" He offered a smile and small nod of his head before he left the living room, passing by Emily and giving her a peck on the cheek. Lunch was going splendidly and it wouldn't be long until he was serving the food in serving dishes for his friends and family to help themselves to. He'd cooked more than enough for everyone that they'd invited and they always invited a lot of people, they'd had many people come and go from their lives but the good ones, the loving ones were always invited back in at any time.

I promise to keep you safe always and forever
Relief was short lived as Andre entered the lounge and introduced himself to Julian, as Dorian looked on from his place on the couch. He let the pair exchange niceties, but it was all over too quickly and soon Andre had scurried off to the kitchen once more, leaving Dorian and Julian alone. It was awkward, to say the least. Spending time with his brother was nothing like the time he had spent with his sister before her tragic and untimely demise. River had been warm and talkative, always taking the lead in discussions and never letting more than a few seconds pass before she interrupted the silence with a new story or topic to be considered. With Julian things did not flow quite as easily. He was nice enough, and clearly a very charming chap, but there was something about Julian that just did not sit well with the older man. Dorian told himself that he simply needed to try harder to make a connection with his brother, but he was not sure if that was really the case.
Dorian had not needed to be the leader of the expedition to create a bond between him and River, River took that on quite well. Julian, it seemed, was a bit more like Dorian in that he was more one to observe and consider silently. It was yet to be determined if the brothers shared any other personality traits, but Dorian assumed it was more their lifetime’s worth of experiences that had made them the way they are. Julian was bitten by a werewolf and had become one himself, which Merlin only knew was not a pleasant endeavor in and of itself, let alone the societal stereotypes that came with the affliction. Dorian had lost a series of people whom he had loved and ended up retreating into his own little hovel for safety and peace of mind. Neither men had had an easy life, and clearly, they had coped with it in similar ways. Unless this was all an act on Julian’s part, meant to make Dorian feel sympathetic to his younger brother’s plight. The wizengamot was still out on that one.
“Andre is an excellent chef,” Dorian confirmed. “You are in for a treat.” It was true. Dorian had mentioned to Andre on several occasions that he should consider taking cooking up as a profession, though of course the man was already retired and comfortable spending his time with his family and hobbies.

Dreaming of a Family Christmas Andre seemed like a cheerful enough chap that a compliment or two, or showing some interest in the things he enjoyed would be enough to win him over. He could always be deeper than that and a very good actor, but Jules hoped it would be a simple task to get the man to see him in a good light. It shouldn't be that difficult a task. Julian wasn't a bad person. Sure, he'd killed people in wolf form, and he'd even bitten people on purpose to turn them into the monsters they so loathed, but it was only ever done as a form of punishment to those that hated his kind and wished to harm them. He didn't see dishing out that kind of justice as something that made him a bad person, he was protecting his family, his pack. It was entirely justified, and the fact that it gave him a deep sense of satisfaction was neither here nor there. he was a good person. He had been raised by lovely people, in a healthy home, and a cheeky personality wouldn't change who he was at his core. It was silly that since he'd become a werewolf he had gotten such a complex that people saw him as the bad guy. It was far from the truth, but his temper often solidified people's judgments, which was unfair and something he had grown accustomed to over the years. These people, this family, they didn't have to see him in that light. Only Dorian knew he was a werewolf as far as Julian knew, possibly Dorcas, but the parents surely didn't have a clue and he would have a clear slate with them. Andre excused himself and left Jules alone with his brother once more, a strange kind of tension and discomfort settling over the room. It was awkward, and Jules didn't enjoy awkward in any way. He was confident, cocky, even, and he prided himself on being able to cope in any situation. If he could go through the torture of becoming a wolf every month, he could get through a bit of uncomfortable silence and find a way to turn it around. He didn't sit down, and remained standing in the middle of the room, which likely didn't help to ease the awkward atmosphere, but he wasn't comfortable enough to sit down and drop his guard just yet. Dorian attempted small talk, and Jules, pleased at his attempt, decided to throw him a bone and join in, rather than giving a half-hearted "hmm" or something equally unhelpful and rude. "I look forward to it," he replied with a warm smile. "Are we the only guests today or are there more people coming?" he asked, wondering if Dorian would be privy to such information. Just having to spend a bit of time with Dorcas and her parents was enough for him, but if there were more people coming he'd like to be able to mentally prepare for a few more strangers and how he might handle them. _______________________ tag: Dorian Michael Humbert , André Daniel Meadowes , Emily Jane Meadowes , Dorcas Amilie Meadowes and Geralina Amara Drake notes: Outfit. <3 template by izzy[googlefont="Dancing Script"]

I promise to keep you safe always and forever
Dorian was relatively relieved when his comments about Andre’s cooking were not met with a dismissive grunt or something equally as indifferent. He wouldn’t expect Julian to be so obviously insensitive when he was an invited guest in the Meadowes’ home, especially not on Christmas, but the uneasy tension that lingered in the room now that it was only the two brothers made Dorian uncomfortable, so any sign that there was good will between he and Julian was appreciated. “I believe Dorcas’ friend Geralina will be joining us,” he answered. Geralina, while yes, Dorcas’ friend, had been introduced to Dorian through Paris, but Dorian did not want to talk to Julian of Paris. Not now, and possibly not ever. Dorian knew she was likely to be brought up at some point today, though. The chances would only increase with Geralina’s arrival. The women were the best of friends before Paris’ untimely death, and Dorian knew the holiday season would be as difficult for the Hogwarts librarian as it was for everyone else. It was their first Christmas without Paris. It was Julian’s first without River. And it was Dorian’s first in a long time with anyone around at all to celebrate with. Most importantly, perhaps, it was Ariel’s first Christmas, and if she couldn’t be surrounded by her parents and grandparents on this day, she would at least be surrounded by a houseful of people who loved her. “There may be others as well,” Dorian continued. “Andre and Emily tend to invite everyone, and there are usually more place settings than there are people present. ‘Just in case’ seems to be their motto for tea. A loving couple, they are. Dorcas is their own child, but they used to foster children as well. I suppose its only natural for them to have virtually adopted Ariel as their granddaughter. They have hearts bigger than anyone I’ve met in a long while.” Merlin’s beard, Dorian was rambling, and he literally never rambled. It was either that or cursing at Dorcas for taking the baby away from them for so long. Ariel could relieve the tension in a room like no one else, with her big blue eyes and her soft blonde curls.

Dorcas had Ariel laying in the middle of the queen sized bed on her belly. It was probably about time to head downstairs and interact with others and Dorcas supposed it wouldn't be so bad. She'd have Ariel to keep her company for a while and provided she didn't poop, she'd keep hold of the girl for as long as possible. As soon as she pooped Ariel would be handed off to someone more experienced in handling the rear end of an infant, Dorcas disliked the smell and, quit frankly, the sight. She'd seen some grizzly situations in her life time, she'd seen decapitations, impalements, disembowelments but nothing compared to the site and smell of what that small kid could push out of her arse. Yet another reason Dorcas would never have kids, they were just straight up disgusting, and as she got older she was only going to get in to more messes. Hell, when she was mobile she was going to be shitting herself, pissing herself and throwing food and drink everywhere. It would basically be dealing with Tersha on her 21st birthday every day. Dorcas knew for certain she couldn't handle that kind of crazy no matter how cute the kid.
She slipped her heels on and tickled Ariel's back as she took an interest in what Dorcas was doing, pushing her upper body and twisting to the point that she rolled over on the soft mattress. For a second she looked stunned but it didn't last long, the little warrior found her feet and tried grabbing at them, her chunky little thighs not holding her back in the slightest. She was precious and Dorcas knew she'd do just about anything for the little chubster that was attempting to gnaw on her foot. "Yeah, none of that," she said to the child that was paying her absolutely sod all attention, "Daddy-Dor won't be happy if you cough up some kind of cotton ball." She took hold of Ariel and stood up, ready to face whoever was downstairs. She was fairly certain Geralina wasn't there yet or her mum would have called up and apart from that Dorcas wasn't sure there was going to be anyone else joining them, apart from Dorian's brother or whatever he was, she supposed Ariel's uncle technically, but how much did the guy even know about Dorian or Ariel? Dorcas was a bit sceptical of the bloke. None of them had ever met him until after River had died, were they sure they had the right bloke?
Dorcas left her bedroom with Ariel, leaving the door slightly ajar behind her, not bothering to close it because she just simply wasn't in the habit of it any more. When she'd lived with her parents she'd even gone so far as to learn a few locking charms to keep unwanted people out, looking back now she knew they were simple little charms that could be unlocked with a simple alohamora or some other kind of flimsy unlocking spell. The spells on her home these days would take a hell of a lot more to get through than a little wave of a wand. "When you're old enough to eat you'll be able to appreciate poppy-Dré's roasts, until then I'm sure daddy-Dor's got a bottle for you and some toys to scrunch." She told Ariel as they walked the hallway and stairs, Ariel jamming her fist into her mouth like it was the most delicious thing on the planet. A roast would taste a damn sight better than human flesh ... probably. "Come on," She said, hearing a scuttling heading off in the direction of the kitchen as she hoisted Ariel up a little more, figuring her mother had been listening out for her and run off to the kitchen before Dorcas could catch her in the act. Dorcas had no clue why her mother was listening out for her, perhaps she worried she was going to drop Ariel or something, but Dorcas felt she was at least moderately capable of looking after the little stinker.
Taking the last step Dorcas looked towards the kitchen, she could see to the dining area and half expected to see her mums head pop out from around the corner but it didn't, Em was keeping to herself. Dorcas listened as she walked to the front room, hearing Dorian talk to someone. As she entered the room she took in the sight of the two men, their body language and the tone of Dorian's words as he finished talking. Her eyes drifted over the stranger she'd yet to meet and her mother's voice sounded in her mind, reminding her to be polite. She smiled, putting on that sweet, trusting smile she'd become an expert in, of course those that knew her knew she never smiled like that unless she was putting on a show for whatever reason, but this was a reason to put in a show, "Hi, Merry Christmas," She said, then turned her head to Ariel, "Wanna coo a little 'Merry Christmas'?" She asked, knowing full well that Ariel was far more interested in her fist than anything else but her big blue eyes were definitely looking in Julians direction, whether it was because of him or the shiny decorations that happened to be behind him Dorcas didn't know, nor did she really care much at the moment.

Dreaming of a Family Christmas Dorian went into possibly the longest monologue Julian had heard from him so far in their short relationship. It was amusing to see him rambling away about this family he so clearly admired far too much. His amusement didn't show, but he was laughing on the inside, his face a mask of sincerity and interest as he listened to his brother go on about how the Meadoweses liked to take in strays and mongrels who had nowhere else to go. Was this friend of Dorcas' a stray, too? Or just a friend? Maybe she'd be moderately attractive and make the day go that much quicker and easier. Or maybe she'd have a stick up her arse to rival the one Dorian had, only time would tell. "Well, I suppose if she were to have a substitute family, you found her one of the best," he allowed, trying to be kind in talking about how Emily and Andre had taken to Ariel, but unable to hide the cattiness of mentioning the baby needing a substitute family. She certainly did not. She had grandparents of her own. Yes, they were dead, but they were a damn sight better than these people, and they'd have loved her infinitely more than these people ever could. The moment was interrupted before Jules could put his foot in it by the arrival of Dorcas, carrying Ariel on her hip. Julian didn't even see Dorcas, so blinded by the tiny blonde baby was he, the hot little brunette faded completely in comparison. He felt the smile return to his face, though it was only for one person. "Merry Christmas," he responded to Dorcas' words, though his eyes were on Ariel, and he crossed the room to the pair, wanting nothing more than to snatch Ariel from this strange woman and hold her close for the entire day. He didn't, that would be rude and he needed to appear marginally polite in front of these people. "Hello, sweetheart." He leaned in, placing a gentle kiss on Ariel's cheek, his eyes flicking to Dorcas' face eventually since they were so close now. "It's nice to meet you, Dorcas," he finally offered a greeting, his finger gripped in Ariel's hand as he leaned back enough to not be invading the Auror's personal space too much. She was a pretty little thing, he could see what his brother saw in her. _______________________ tag: Dorian Michael Humbert , André Daniel Meadowes , Emily Jane Meadowes , Dorcas Amilie Meadowes and Geralina Amara Drake notes: <3 outfit: Simply sexy. template by izzy[googlefont="Dancing Script"]

I promise to keep you safe always and forever
It was easy to ignore the backhanded compliment of Emily and Andre, because at that moment Dorcas appeared in the doorway and with her she brought not only Ariel, but a well needed distraction. Why interacting with his half-brother was so hard, when River had made it seem so effortless was beyond Dorian but it was. He wanted to trust Julian and while it had been a few months now, and Julian hadn’t given him any reason not to trust him, Dorian was still uneasy. He tried chalking it up to his skeptical Auror mindset, and maybe that was all it was, a well-established, professional paranoia that meant strangers were more dangerous than mothers lead their children to believe.
“You look lovely, Dorcas,” Dorian remarked as Julian moved to her side and turned his attention on the infant. He had been fairly certain she was going to spend the whole of their meal in her pyjamas, or something equally as comfortable and unattractive – not that he found her attractive in any way that she would appreciate. She was too young, too obnoxious, and too disrespectful of personal boundaries to be of any interest to the older wizard. “We were just speaking of the guestlist. Geralina is expected, is she not?” He needed another friendly face around that, unlike Dorcas’ other friend Tersha, would not make him more uncomfortable at the table. He found Geralina to be rather refreshing and he couldn’t see how the two women were friends, but they managed and it was nice for them.

Julian made a beeline for Ariel and Dorcas hoisted her up a little more to be closer to eye height with Julian while simultaneously holding her a little tighter incase this stranger in their lives decided to try and grab the baby and make a run for it. Dorcas had seen crazier things in her lifetime and the guy sure seemed focused entirely on Ariel, his gaze not faltering for a second. Even if he was River's brother he was a stranger to the rest of them. He wanted to be involved in Ariel's life which Dorcas could understand to some degree, but to approach the baby and not even take a look at Dorcas? Was this guy mental? He had to be, her arse was incredible right now! At least Dorian was complimentary. She looked over to him and smiled, she would have said something about him needing to strip off a little to receive the same level of compliment from her but she was too focused on what Julian might be up to.
Julian gave Ariel a little peck on the cheek and Dorcas looked to the pair to see Ariel not phased in the slightest by him. Ariel was a calm and pretty chilled out baby so it wasn't much of a surprise. Ariel had hold of Julian's finger as he commented it was nice to meet Dorcas, "I'm sure it must be wonderful." She smiled, a little smugly, a little too full of herself but then when wasn't she. She looked over to Dorian, a small shrug in her shoulders directed to him, "That she is, whenever she can get away from work for a bit." She wasn't sure when that would be, heck she could turn up in the middle of lunch. Dorcas figured there probably weren't many left at Hogwarts for the holidays but the ones that were would probably use the library to their advantage, Dorcas would have if she didn't have a loving family to return home to and the promise of a butt-load of presents. Really it was mostly the presents she'd returned home for during the holidays, he parents always made such a fuss of seeing her it was just embarrassing. She started seeing them pretty much weekly once she was graduated and she'd originally thought their enthusiasm for her visits would have died down but it really hadn't. They were overly affectionate in Dorcas' opinion.

Dreaming of a Family Christmas How she housed that much arrogance in such a tiny body, Julian did not know, but he found himself fighting a smile at her words. He liked a good bit of fire, though she was clearly trying to portray some kind of coolness towards him. Jules didn't care, really, she wasn't anybody to him, if she wanted to be funny with him, so be it, he had been polite enough for the first ten seconds of their relationship, that would do him just fine. His thumb stroked the back of Ariel's hand lightly as she held onto his finger, probably not even aware of what she was doing. He didn't care whose digit she thought she was holding, perhaps she assumed it belonged to Dorcas, but he would enjoy the moment regardless. She looked lovely in her little dress, though he imagined River might have dressed her in a much more frilly and girly fashion, like a little doll. The dress was sweet enough, though Jules knew it wouldn't be her first outfit of the day. He just hoped Dorcas was holding her when she did her first Christmas vomit. There was more mention of this Geralina woman, Jules starting to get the impression that Dorian might fancy whoever she was, bringing her up a second time. He wondered if Dorcas knew her boyfriend was pining after her friend. That would be a nice little drama to sit in on. Maybe he'd make a move on Geralina, it would surely get up someone's nose and it didn't matter to Julian which one of this pair he annoyed with it. Unless she was a troll, of course, there'd be no flirting with that. He said nothing as he listened to the two talking, and when Ariel finally released his finger, he used it to twirl a tiny curl of her fair hair before moving away, deciding it best not to demand to hold her just yet. She seemed settled where she was, no need to risk upsetting her or anyone else until they were at least half way through their meal. Maybe throw a spanner in the works just as Dorian was chewing on a piece of meat, he could choke to death and then Jules could walk away with his niece and never see these people again. That would be a very merry Christmas indeed. For now, he took a seat on the sofa, perching on the edge, not wanting to get too comfortable or let his guard down at all. _______________________ tag: Dorian Michael Humbert , André Daniel Meadowes , Emily Jane Meadowes , Dorcas Amilie Meadowes and Geralina Amara Drake notes: <3 outfit: Simply sexy. template by izzy[googlefont="Dancing Script"]

My promise to you always and forever
Geralina was the school librarian at Hogwarts, a position one would normally assume had holidays off, but as Hogwarts was a boarding school there were always at least a few students that hung around during the school breaks, sans the summer holiday. If students were present, it stood to reason that faculty would need to be present as well. It was a logical conclusion, but it hadn’t occurred to Dorian before that Geralina might not have Christmas off. As a student, Dorian had never stayed at the castle over holidays, opting as most did to spend the time with his parents, he didn’t have any first-hand experience with just how many professors and staff were on call during the festive holiday. If she couldn’t make it, so be it, but Dorian rather enjoyed Geralina’s company. She was a comforting figure to discuss his beloved Paris with, but the pair were becoming friends in their own right. Well, as friend-like as Dorian permitted himself to be with others. “It will be good to see her,” he replied, wondering at what point his brother would decided there were simply too many unknown people here for comfort. It was Dorian’s first Christmas with all of these people as well, but Dorian had an advantage that Julian did not – Dorian knew the Meadowes. There certainly wasn’t any ill-will against his brother, and he didn’t want the man to be uneasy at any point but especially not at Christmas. It was Ariel’s first, which meant that it was their first together; his and Julian’s. It wouldn’t be their last. No matter how estranged they had been, they were family and little Ariel could only bring them together.

Em skidaddled into the dining room and André looked up from where he was crouched, peering through the oven door, looking to see if everything was ready. There was a lot of food in that oven, even if it didn't seem like it could hold a whole lot. Magic came in extremely handy like that! Wigging his brows at Em he stood up from his crouched position and turned the oven down low, making his way over to his wife he ditched the tea towel he'd been holding, leaving it to rest on the kitchen counter. He heard footsteps coming down stairs and he wrapped his arms about Em's waist, knowing she'd been listening in on Dorcas and just what she was up to. Em was a little snoopy like that and André loved it, he loved her with every fibre of his being and it came as no surprise to him that she wanted to know just exactly what Dorcas was up to, after all their daughter had never been the maternal sort yet she cooed over the little girl she liked to hog from time to time.
Dorcas was very much like Emily in a lot of ways but that maternal need that Emily had and craved was not one of them. He and Em could have been happy with a large family, they'd wanted and tried for so many children. They'd suffered so many losses but Dorcas was their one and only living born child. Em always hoped that someday they'd have grandchildren, only ever really thinking they could have grandchildren through Dorcas, neither of them had ever expected to have a surrogate grandchild. It was a tragic circumstance in which they'd come to care for Ariel so often and one they'd never be able to forget. Burt and River had been such loving and kind people and André knew they would have been the most incredible parents in the world to their daughter. He hoped that somewhere they both knew that their daughter, while without her parents, was still loved and cherished by all those in her life. She even seemed to have softened up Dorcas which was something they'd never have expected although it did give Emily hope of more grandchildren. Truth be told André found himself with a little hope too.
"I'm just going to start carving now, mon trésor." He pecked her on the side of the cheek and then released her from his embrace. He took a step back, spinning about in a half turn as he went. The roast meats were already out and resting, the vegetables were done and staying hot in the oven. He waved his wand again and again, taking control of his kitchen as meats were sliced to perfection and the vegetables made their way out of the oven. Everything was flowing perfectly as the serving dishes hovered over the counter and André arranged the meat and vegetables. Happy in his own little world of meat and veg he wasn't paying attention to anyone else coming or going from the dining room, nor what Em was up to, he just focused himself fully on his meal, hoping his guests would enjoy themselves and the food, leaving here later with a full and happy tums. This was a strange first Christmas for all of them and he hoped with all the faith that he had that everyone would be too happy to mourn, just reminisce with fond memories of their loved ones. It was going to be a difficult day.

Listening in on Dorcas wasn't meant to be some kind of invasion of her daughters privacy but more .... well Em couldn't really justify it. She just wanted to listen in and see how her daughter was getting on with little Ariel, after all she wasn't exactly the baby sort of person and if she got into trouble then Em wanted to be within ear shot so she could dash up the stairs and help out in a heartbeat if needs be. As it was Dorcas was more than capable of looking after the baby and when Em heard her footsteps approaching the stairs she scuttled away from the stairs, heading to the dining room to see how long lunch was going to be. The house was fragrant with the smell of herbs, meats and vegetables and as always Em knew André would be cooking all too much and sending people home with plates of meat for sandwiches that would last them the coming year. André was sweet and caring. He wanted to look after people and so he did exactly that.
Once in the dining room Em was embraced and she smiled happily, noticing Dorcas come down the stairs and turn into the living room. Em took a deep breath, hoping her daughter would be polite and get on well with Julian, of course she would be just fine, Em thought, Dorcas wasn't some kind of nightmare on purpose. At least not usually. She hoped that Dorcas would be kind enough to share little Ariel with her new found uncle. Em knew that Dorcas wasn't really the most trusting of people but she had to let some of those barriers down, at least for today. Em didn't want to have to have words with her adult daughter but if she had to she was ready and willing to send Dorcas to her room if she behaved in any sort of unacceptable manner. Which she wouldn't. Obviously. She was a good girl. And yet Em still had that little niggling feeling in the pit of her stomach that told her to be on watch for any sort of rude behaviour or worse. No. Everything would be just dandy! She had nothing to worry about.
André went back to the kitchen and Em started putting out the plates and making sure there was enough room for everything. The space had been magically enlarged a little so they could fit everyone and all André's cooking nice and comfortably. She hoped that Geralina and Julian wouldn't mind being sat with one another. They'd never met but it was of course a perfect opportunity for them to meet and get to know one another. Em didn't really think Julian would be Geralina's sort so there was no sort of match making at play here, but Geralina was a most friendly sort and she always had André on her other side if she needed an out. She was friendly but she seemed a little shy from time to time. Em was always up for making chat, their table wasn't some giant monstrosity like André's own parents had owned, so conversation across the table was going to be more than easy, so long as it wasn't too noisy! Em kind of hoped that everyone would just fall into some wonderful conversations while they enjoyed their meals. "Cassie." She called, setting up glasses and making sure the table was ready for their guests, "Cassie, can I have you a minute!"
