Despite the fact that Dorian was not there, the party was going rather well, Em thought. People were mingling and enjoying themselves, the music was lovely and she liked seeing the young man enjoying the food the house elves had set out. Roddy and Rabby seemed to be creating a little bit of a commotion, but Em paid them no attention, not close attention, anyway, they would sober up eventually and hopefully they wouldn't ruin the evening. She just stayed near the food, hoping that she didn't get dragged into a war between Rodolphus, who was now on the floor, and Rabastan, who seemed to be spreading out on the sofa.

The brothers were quite drunk, it seemed. They both managed to make it on to the sofa without much hassle, and they were both minding their manners, sort of, so at least that was something to work with. They could both talk just fine, albeit a little slurred, and so Em headed to the snacks and grabbed a couple of platters, levitating them over to the coffee table near the sofa where the boys were sitting. Em hoped that after a little food and maybe some water, the pair would drift off and then maybe Dorian's party could go ahead as planned, although the birthday boy himself was nowhere to be seen.

The little pop that escaped Emily gave her a little giggle as the rest of the room noticed it also. It didn't smell none too pleasant but at the end of the day it was just the human body doing what it needed to do, and she was no ashamed of that. Pretty soon a pleasant smell filled the room and she held on to André's arm. They'd been at the manor for quite a bit of time, putting up decorations just about all over the house except the hallway, they couldn't have Dorian spotting anything suspicious in the hallway or the surprise would have been ruined. But the room they were hiding in was all done up, the kids play room was decorated also, and the toilets were even given a little makeover. The kitchen wasn't going to be a big party spot for guests, but Em had decorated it anyway, despite Cassie's little eye rolls. The place was looking amazing and Em knew that Dorian would appreciate all the hard work that had gone into the evening for him. It may not have been his ideal party - for his ideal party would be none at all - but hopefully he would see how loved he was.
"Surprise! Surprise!" Em jumped and cheered, sending out confetti and streamers with her wand, unable to contain herself! She smiled cheerfully as Dorian was clearly taken back and when he went to check on little Ariel, Em picked a glass of champagne up off a passing tray and chatted away with André about how Dorian's reaction was almost exactly as she had pictured it being. After a little chatter and moving about the room a bit, Dorian was back and all eyes were on him and Julian as Julian passed him a gift. Em went up on her tippy toes just a little to try and get a little look at what it was. It seemed to just be an envelope. She wasn't close enough to hear what was being said but it didn't seem all too positive judging by Dorian's posture. He looked like his usual self, but perhaps a little too stiff? Poor lamb, Em thought. She gave André a little look and the two headed towards the door, ready to follow Dorian but things took a turn as Rodolphus returned home along with his crude mouth and his brother trailing behind. Em gave a little frown to André and sighed. Rodolphus was absolutely smashed, it seemed, and she wasn't fond of his language. Rabastan said hello, or some variation of it, and then Rodolphus came back to the room, greeting her and André. "Hello, Rodolphus, love. Had a little tipple have we?" She smiled in her motherly way. "Let's get you and Rabastan some food. Come on, darlings." She said, taking Rodolphus' arm and waving Rabastan along. "Come on, have a seat." She said, indicating to the nearest sofa, flying over that shower comment of Rodolphus' altogether.

Em was finishing up sorting out Ariel's room. She'd rewashed her bed sheets and made sure the room was absolutely spotless for the little cherub, not that it would matter, she'd probably end up snuggling André to sleep and after they'd tucked her in to bed, she'd probably just patter on in to their room. The idea of Ariel being a handful seemed impossible. She was a perfect little darling, as far as Em and André were concerned, and besides, she was so much easier than Dorcas. It was definitely for the best that they never had more children, but they'd fostered plenty of children for various amounts of times, and were still in contact with a few. Dorcas had certainly made life interesting. "She'll be no bother," Em smiled, listening to André play with Ariel, "She has us wrapped around her finger." she chuckled lightly. Little Ariel had everyone that loved her wrapped around her finger, Dorcas in particular, which had come as a surprise to Em and André.
When André brought Ariel out, Emily took Ariel and gave her a kiss on the cheek and a snuggle, carrying her into the lounge and setting her on the floor next to the toy box. Em knelt down on the floor next to Ariel and the pair started looking for a toy to play with together.

Emily was delighted to be enjoying Christmas with loved ones once more. There were many of them missing but so many more new faces. She would welcome them all with open arms and wish them all the very best in their lives. Julian was only new to their home but if he was half the man River made him out to be then he would always be welcome amongst them. Dorian was almost a permanent fixture these days and as much as Emily loved that she hoped that he found his feet in the world. He was a wonderful man and he cared so very much for his niece that she wanted to see happiness for him. She would help with the baby whenever he needed someone to look after her but she hoped he and Julian found a relationship that worked for the both of them so they could share Ariel. Em didn’t know too much about Julian but she knew that River had wanted her brother in her daughter’s life so for the sake of the sweet little cherub, Emily hoped that Julian could find the will to settle down and find a permanent home for his little niece.
Em called everyone to the table once she'd helped André cover it with food. André chatted away happily with Geralina about how he'd grown the veggies himself and she was ever so kind in allowing him to go on and on about the subject. Ariel was passed around from person to person so everyone got a chance to eat, but more importantly they all got a chance for cuddles with the precious angel. It was her first Christmas and one they would all surely remember for a long, long while.
Happy banter and cheerful faces at her table left Emily with that feeling of joy she only ever got at Christmas time. She relaxed into her chair as the dishes magically made their way to the kitchen and began washing themselves. She looked about her little dining table and watched as everyone talked and enjoyed their Christmas day. A gentle hand came over the top of her own and Emily’s eyes met with those of her husband’s. Together the smiled and looked down the table to their family.

Listening in on Dorcas wasn't meant to be some kind of invasion of her daughters privacy but more .... well Em couldn't really justify it. She just wanted to listen in and see how her daughter was getting on with little Ariel, after all she wasn't exactly the baby sort of person and if she got into trouble then Em wanted to be within ear shot so she could dash up the stairs and help out in a heartbeat if needs be. As it was Dorcas was more than capable of looking after the baby and when Em heard her footsteps approaching the stairs she scuttled away from the stairs, heading to the dining room to see how long lunch was going to be. The house was fragrant with the smell of herbs, meats and vegetables and as always Em knew André would be cooking all too much and sending people home with plates of meat for sandwiches that would last them the coming year. André was sweet and caring. He wanted to look after people and so he did exactly that.
Once in the dining room Em was embraced and she smiled happily, noticing Dorcas come down the stairs and turn into the living room. Em took a deep breath, hoping her daughter would be polite and get on well with Julian, of course she would be just fine, Em thought, Dorcas wasn't some kind of nightmare on purpose. At least not usually. She hoped that Dorcas would be kind enough to share little Ariel with her new found uncle. Em knew that Dorcas wasn't really the most trusting of people but she had to let some of those barriers down, at least for today. Em didn't want to have to have words with her adult daughter but if she had to she was ready and willing to send Dorcas to her room if she behaved in any sort of unacceptable manner. Which she wouldn't. Obviously. She was a good girl. And yet Em still had that little niggling feeling in the pit of her stomach that told her to be on watch for any sort of rude behaviour or worse. No. Everything would be just dandy! She had nothing to worry about.
André went back to the kitchen and Em started putting out the plates and making sure there was enough room for everything. The space had been magically enlarged a little so they could fit everyone and all André's cooking nice and comfortably. She hoped that Geralina and Julian wouldn't mind being sat with one another. They'd never met but it was of course a perfect opportunity for them to meet and get to know one another. Em didn't really think Julian would be Geralina's sort so there was no sort of match making at play here, but Geralina was a most friendly sort and she always had André on her other side if she needed an out. She was friendly but she seemed a little shy from time to time. Em was always up for making chat, their table wasn't some giant monstrosity like André's own parents had owned, so conversation across the table was going to be more than easy, so long as it wasn't too noisy! Em kind of hoped that everyone would just fall into some wonderful conversations while they enjoyed their meals. "Cassie." She called, setting up glasses and making sure the table was ready for their guests, "Cassie, can I have you a minute!"

Julian made his way in to the lounge and Emily heard André calling out for her. With a little hop in her step she made her way into the dining area and towards the kitchen where André was busying himself with the tea "Of course, love." She smiled, placing the present Julian had given her down on the table and getting together a little plate of shortbread biscuits, all home made by André and absolutely delicious! The man had a knack for cooking and Emily was definitely jealous of it! She was never really talented in the kitchen and unfortunately both Paris and Dorcas seemed to take after her. Not that it mattered. Paris was about the same level as her and Dorcas was surviving. Emily liked to see to it that she sent over meals on Wednesday's so she knew her Dorcas was getting at least one decent mean during the weekdays and on the weekends she was over for Sunday lunch so that was at least something. She also had the cafeteria at work and she was known to frequent the local take away places. The amount of take away containers she often had in her fridge should have been criminal but she showed no interest in learning to cook and while you could lead a unicorn to water, you couldn't make it cook a damned thing.
Emily placed the biscuits down on the tray and André was off on his way into the lounge. Emily picked up the gift Julian had given her for herself and André and followed in after to see him placing the tray down on the table. She placed the gift from Julian in under the tree and made her way to the entrance again, calling up the stairs, "Cassie, do you need any help with Ariel?" She called, knowing the answer ahead of time anyway. Dorcas may have claimed to dislike children, and babies in particular, but she'd really taken a shine to River's and Bert's little girl and it was positively heart warming for Emily. She still hadn't given up hope that she might some day have a grandchild of her own, but really Ariel was almost like a grandchild to the couple. There was no blood relation there but there wasn't anything she and André wouldn't do for Ariel and they loved her just as they would any of their own grandchildren and any time they could have with her they absolutely cherished.

Julian looked bright eyed and bushy tailed today! His sapphire eyes just seemed to catch the natural light despite the clouds that covered the sun and sky. She'd noticed the same thing a little over a week ago, his eyes just seemed to just twinkle using whatever light there was available. The way he smiled brightened his entire face, his features were so at ease and natural as he smiled that it could make anyone feel comfortable and relaxed to be around. He was a charmer. A natural born charmer. Dorian was lovely, he was a proper gentleman but he didn't have the calm and charismatic nature that Julian had but Emily knew all too well not to trust someone like Julian based on first impressions. He seemed like ever such a lovely chap and while River had mentioned that he was always hoping to move closer to her and her little family soon, Emily knew that, as much as River had loved her captivating brother, he was unreliable. The darling blonde had held her family in such high regards and yet Julian hadn't ever really been there for her in the months that Emily had known the Blackthornes and it was far too late for him to be involved in River's life any longer as it no longer existed, however her heart was still present. The darling little cherub that Dorcas had upstairs was River's absolute world, her heart and soul and without the two ever having met face to face, but there was no way of describing to someone that had never carried life just how it felt to be a mother, to carry your child. While River had not met her child she had loved her so very fiercely. Not every mother felt the same way, some had to meet the child before a connection was formed and some just never connected. Emily had been so very much like River, she had cherished each and every one of her babies and she missed them dearly. Miscarriages and still births had happened which made her feel as though she'd never know what it was like to have a living, breathing child she could love for the rest of her life but she had been wrong, when Dorcas was born she'd known that there was never a human being she could ever have loved as much and River never got the chance to really experience that feeling. Oh how Emily's heart broke for the dearly departed mother.
Julian came in and Emily shut the door behind him, keeping the all too bitter wind out of the home. Emily was very much a winter person and enjoyed walking out and around the home without a coat, just a long sleeved top and a cardy for a few minutes but she knew not everyone appreciated what mother nature had to offer this time of year and she wanted all of her guests to be as comfortable as possible. "Oh Julian, that's so very thoughtful of you, thank you." She beamed, tilting her head slightly at how incredibly thoughtful of Julian this small gesture was, or was it? Perhaps it was some kind of ploy, Emily wasn't sure, she couldn't know so she took it at face value and enjoyed receiving an unexpected gift. Julian carried on, his charming nature just not able to hold back as he complimented their sweet little cottage. Emily chuckled gently, loving her home very much and appreciating Julian's sincerity as he spoke. He was also interested in his brother, although Emily very much doubted those words. It more than likely wasn't Dorian he was interested in finding but rather the sweet little angel that accompanied him. "Oh yes, love. He's just through there," She indicated with her free hand to the lounge, "Dorcas will be down soon with Ariel and I'll bring some tea through in a minute." She smiled, "Make yourself at home." She urged, hoping he'd be able to relax at some point but she could imagine it must have been strange being in the home of people you'd never really met before while at the same time trying to have some kind of tradition Christmas with them. This wasn't really traditional but it was at the same time as it was just a newly evolved family. Hopefully one that could find peace and harmony with one another. They'd all lost so many in their lives that it only seemed right to have found one another and to help each other through the grief they shared.

It was so lovely to see Dorian and Ariel, even if Ariel was a quick glance. Dorcas had taken off with the infant into the house and upstairs but Emilia was positively excited to see what cute little number she was in today. "She's spent the morning reading, surprisingly. Lost in a world of Hobbits, elves and a vicious dragon." She smiled merrily. It wasn't like Dorcas to read unless she had to but the wonderful world of Middle Earth had certainly captured her attention. Stepping in out of the cold was lovely! Dorian allowed her in first which Emily found rather preposterous as it was her own home and guests ought be allowed to enter first but she stepped through regardless and supposed Dorian really was more family than just a friend really. She saw him six days a week. The only time she hadn't seen him was when he'd had to travel somewhere for his job and she and André together looked after Ariel. Oh they had a marvellous time. Ariel was so familiar with the pair and had such a comfortable space here that it was very much like her second home. The little cherub had absolutely missed her uncle Dorian but she'd also had a wonderful time with herself and André, even Dorcas helping out more than Emily could ever have foreseen. Dorcas may never have wanted children of her own but she was rather marvellous with little Ariel. It gave Emily hope that despite Dorcas saying she'd never want or have children, that perhaps, if she met the right man, then she'd happily settle down and have children. They were truly a blessing and Emily knew that Dorcas would thrive as a mother.
Emily offered Dorian an almost sympathetic smile as he almost went on to mention Paris. He skipped over her name and it hurt a little that he thought he couldn't mention her either through his own pain or fear of upsetting her. Emily had cried plenty over the loss of her niece and she still shed a few tears here and there whenever she thought of the wasted life. Leaving poor Dorian alone to raise a child. Emily had faith that if Paris were still alive then she would have stayed by Dorian's side and helped raise the little child. Paris was not the maternal sort, just like Dorcas, but she would have adapted for a man as wonderful as Dorian, Emily was certain. Before Emily could offer a hopefully gentle word or two about Paris, André entered with his jolly Christmas grin and before she knew it he was back off to the kitchen again, leaving Emily with a beaming smile and a heart full of absolute joy. "The tree's just in the lounge. I'm afraid after presents this morning Dorcas rearranged everything so it's all a little scatty." She playfully grimaced. Dorcas tried, bless her, but she was not the organising sort. House work was not something she was gifted at nor did she particularly try too hard with. Cooking was just frightful when she gave it a try and magic had to be used a time or seven to put out random fires she'd somehow managed to cause. Emily had always thought that Paris had been the messiest cook she'd ever come across but Dorcas seemed to take things to a whole different level.
The door bell rang and Emily looked to the door and then back to Dorian, "Excuse me a minute, love, I'll just get that." She smiled and turned, taking the steps she needed to reach the door. Pulling it open she saw the ever so handsome half-brother of Dorian stood there looking a little like a lost sheep. Oh how hard this time of year must have been for him. This time last year he had his mother, his sister, his brother in law and would have been looking forward to spending the next Christmas with a niece too. Sadly he'd lost so much in such a short amount of time and so unexpectedly. Emily's heart felt as though it physically ached for the brothers having lost so many loved ones this year. "Julian, how wonderful to see you, dear! Come in out of the cold and make yourself at home." She offered with a smile, holding the door open for him. There was nothing Emily could ever do to replace the loved ones these two boys had lost but she would try her hardest to give them a little more joy other than the obvious joy their niece provided them both. A link to River and Bert and such pure innocence to be protected. She hoped that however the brothers felt about one another that they would always put Ariel first without hesitation. She knew Dorian would without question but she didn't yet know Julian but she was going to make the effort to welcome him into their family and give him somewhere to turn to if he ever needed it.

Oh what a wonderful day it had been! After a beautiful evening as a family last night it was going to be wonderful spending the rest of the day with the rest of their family. Or at least the ones that could come this year. André had been the first to wake up. For absolutely bloody weeks she'd been hearing talk of his vegetable garden, thankfully Dorcas had turned up early yesterday and Emily had managed to avoid helping out with digging the veggies out of the ground. She'd promised to help but Dorcas had wanted to spend some time with her father and Emily wasn't going to get in the way of that, especially if it saved her from getting dirt under her nails. Herbology and plants in general were not something she enjoyed, practical spell work was far more her forte in life, she had a passion for them, even to the point she'd thought of becoming a teacher at one of the schools across Europe but life had pulled her in another direction, which was certainly full of heartache, but it had so many joys too.
After André had prepped his veggies this morning he'd come up and woken her the same way he did every christmas morning, with a kiss and a gift. He was such a romantic and had been since the beginning of their relationship. This year the gift was a beautiful pair of diamond earrings that she was going to wear for the day. Of course after such a gift there was only one proper way to thank her husband and it was the same sort of 'thank you' as every other year they'd been together. Dorcas had still been sleeping and when the pair had been done André went back to the kitchen to check on everything before returning so they could shower together. Romance and connection to one another was certainly not something that was ever missing between the two of them. Over the course of their 44 year marriage things were still as good as ever, if not better.
After getting ready for the day André had returned once more to the kitchen and Emily had spent her time getting ready - loudly. Sure enough the noise was enough to stir Dorcas but it was a while before she had groggily made her way out of her room. While she and André were ready for the day, Dorcas was still in her pyjamas and looking a little worse for wear but that was the same every year, she always got perkier when it was present time and this year was no exception either. The second she'd unwrapped her first gift her face just seemed brighter and emily loved that her little girl, no matter how old she got, was still the exact same person as when she was a child. Of course sometimes that was rather a pain in the behind because it wasn't just in regards to Christmas but Emily loved her daughter regardless.
The morning had been quite busy, Emily got the house ready while André did the meal. When it was a little later in the day Emily walked about outside with Dorcas, bonding, chatting and giggling as they cleared the paths of the snow and ice. As they got to the end a familiar sight met her she beamed that cheery smile of hers, making her way to the front of the house, excited to see Dorian and Ariel on her doorstep, even if he had rung the bell! Honestly, was the boy ever going to learn? Emily wasn't sure but she was happy he'd arrived. This time last year she hadn't known him but now here he was, spending Christmas day with them and his darling little niece, Ariel who Dorcas took no time in stealing from Dorian. As much as Dorcas claimed to dislike children she got on rather well with little Ariel. "Merry Christmas, Dorian love!" She beamed, wrapping her arms around him "How are you darling?" She asked, giving Dorian a squeeze before letting him go. Undoubtedly this Christmas would be his most challenging if he didn't have the support of loved ones but as it was he did have support from people that loved him dearly and Emily was certain he must have known that. "Come on in and I'll get André to make you a cup of tea." She smiled, "I'm not allowed in the kitchen unless I'm asked." She explained. The kitchen was most certainly André's domain, especially on a beautiful Christmas day.

PERSONALITY Boggart: Being trapped in a burning building but the boggart presents itself as fire that surrounds her before she can even take a step. Quickly walls build up around, blocking everything but the boggart from view. Mirror of Erised: Emily sees herself with her husband, daughter, Dorian, and Ariel all enjoying a bbq beneath the stars on a warm summers eve, clinking glasses, joyous laughter. The simple things in life. Patronus: Swan - The first moment she got to see and hold Dorcas after she was born and seeing André cry tears of happiness.
Emily is a mother. Through and through she is a mother to everyone. She's always wanted a family and after such difficulties they finally had their own little cherub. Fat, squishy and butt naked as much as she could get away with it and Emily was smitten. She decided as soon as her daughter was born that she would foster children in need of a home for however long and her husband, André, was supportive about the choice, knowing it was in her to just mother all the children and even adults that came into her life.
Just because she's motherly does not mean she's soft. She's a wickedly smart witch and fast with her wand too. Duelling is a forte and always has been. It got her into a lot of trouble when she was younger.HISTORY Mother: Claudette Moon née Hitchens, 100, Gryffindor, half blood Father: Neil Moon, 100, Hufflepuff, pureblood Siblings: Mason Moon, brother, pureblood, good terms Amelia James, sister, bad terms Partners: André Daniel Meadowes , 69, Ravenclaw, pureblood Others: Dorcas Amilie Meadowes , 27, Slytherin, pureblood, auror. daughter Richard Pritchard, 53, muggle, salesman, brother-in-law, good terms ____ Pritchard, nephew, half blood, good terms ____ Pritchard, niece, half blood, good terms ____ Pritchard, niece, half blood, good terms Rebekah Wilkes, cousin, don't know Jasper Wilkes, cousin, don't know Helena Rosier, cousin, don't know Clyde Rosier, cousin, don't know Felicity Moon, sister in law, married to Mason, good terms ____ Moon, niece, don't know ____ Moon, niece, don't know Daniel James, brother in law, married to Amelia, bad terms Kingston James, nephew, bad terms Paris James, niece, good terms, Gryffindor, pureblood, deceased May 1978 aged 27.
