André was content sitting in silence, mulling over any thought that passed his mind. He could do that dor quite some time, bouncing from one thought to the next but today it did not last long, or it didn't feel as though his thoughts had lasted that long, as Dorian's good friend popped his head in. Poor Dorian, André felt for him, but this seemed like something just the two lads needed to talk about in private. "I'll let you chaps chat." He said with a sympathetic smile before he stood up and left the room, hoping the Dorian would find peace with the evening and find a way to enjoy himself while surrounded by his loved ones.

André was slowly learning his way around the large home that was now where his daughter lived. He'd grown up in something similar, not quite so large and lavish, but it wasn't somewhere he'd ever pictured Dorcas living, in fact he never expected to be in a home like this himself ever again. "Oh, there you are." He smiled, his head just popped around the corner. Poor Dorian, he thought. The lad had been blindsided with a party and on top of that he seemed to have receive something that had made him uncomfortable enough that he needed to leave for a moment. André felt for the young man. He was such a private fellow and this, this was all far from private.
André let himself into the room and noticed the envelope in Dorian's hands, "I couldn't help but notice your hasty departure." André made his way over to a chair and sat beside Dorian but gave the man his privacy, choosing not to look at Dorian or what was in his hands. This was quite possibly an awkward moment, but André chose to overlook that to offer a little support for his friend, even if it was just for a moment, “Just tell me if you want a moment alone, I understand,” He said, waving his hand and then clasping it with the other, “But also, I’m here if you need to talk about anything, anything at all.” He said. He wasn’t sure that Dorian would want to say anything, but André was flexible with anything, whether it was listening to Dorian or if it was being told to move along.

Wow what a surprise! André cheered along with the rest of Dorian's friends when the lights came on and the confetti and streamers fell. He beamed a toothy grin and hoped that Dorian wouldn't be too mad about all this. André knew that Dorian valued his privacy and a nice quiet night in would probably have been preferred to this, but André wasn't really given much of a voice, and this was something Julian and Cassie wanted to do and so André wasn't going to interrupt the pair, they seemed to have a hard enough time getting on with one another as it was, so André hoped that this would be a positive bonding experience for the pair, although he'd not seen them interact this evening so he figured it probably was not.
After Dorian disappeared then reappeared and then disappeared again, a commotion came from the entrance. André craned his neck to see what was going on and Rodolphus passed by, followed by his brother who stopped and offered a friendly, albeit inebriated, greeting, "Hello there, Rabastan," André grinned. The lad looked absolutely sloshed and André watched as Em tried to mother the brother's to the sofa, no doubt intending to try and sober the pair up in a hope to not ruin Dorian's party. André knew she had it under control and offered a wink and a thumbs up to his live before he stepped out of the room, straightening his jacket and heading down the hallway, "Dorian?" He called out, although not too loudly. André was headed to where the children were all enjoying themselves in the hopes that Dorian might be there, or in a room along the way. It was quite an overwhelming evening for the chap, and André wanted to check in on him and make sure he was okay, and maybe reassure him that, if he wanted, it was more than okay for him to take off.

"Hello little Angel!" André greeted Ariel, sneaking in through the back door in the lounge, "Grandad!" Ariel squealed! Forgetting all about the ball and leaving it abandoned by Dorcas, "Uppy! Uppy!" she squealed, her chunky little legs only carrying her so fast. André knew exactly what she was after and he scooped her up in his arms. "Alright, alright." He chuckled, "Up in the air!" He said, lifting the toddler up fast, as though he was going to throw her but his hands never left her body, "Ariel? Ariel?!" André said, looking about. The toddler began laughing, "Who's that!?" André gasped, turning, Ariel held in his hands, up above his head, "Grandad it me!" She giggled more, "Ariel?" He asked, turning about the other way, "Is that you?!" He asked, full of surprise, "Yess!" André could feel her giggles as she wriggled from laughter, "Where are you, Ariel? Grandad can't seem to find you!" He said, looking all around, "Uppy!" Giggled Ariel, almost uncontrollably. André looked up and gasped in surprise, "What are you doing up there!?" He asked in surprise, Ariel only giggling, "Let's get you down," he said, lowering her, "Have you said hello to grammy, yet?" Ariel shook her head, "Let's go find her then," He said, walking to the front and passing Ariel over to Em, "Hello Dorian," He said, reaching his right hand forward to shake Dorian's while placing his left hand on Dorian's right shoulder and giving him a pat on the shoulder.

Sunday lunch was all over. The pots and pans, dishes and plates were all cleaned and put away, ready for another Sunday lunch. It was amazing how their family had grown. They'd gone from having a daughter and niece with no desires between them for children at any stages in their lives, to having two almost grandchildren, an almost son, and almost son in law and a daughter that had found happiness and was an almost mum herself! Still André was always reminded as he looked at Dorian or Ariel, that they were there through tragedy. André just hoped that what he and Em offered was at least of some help to them. To all of them. Julian and Tristan included. It was such a strange way to come by a family but André was there to support anyone that needed it, blood or not.
Sitting on the sofa with his arm around Em as they read their books in silence, he was surprised to find a note appear in front of him. He'd been doing things on and off for the Order for the past month, both he and Em had been. They'd moved back in January and had turned the upstairs of their garage into a temporary safe house for muggleborns that were escaping the new barbaric laws the ministry had put into place. It was a cramped space but it was only ever needed for a day or two and their house was under the protection of the complicated fidelius charm with Em as the secret keeper. With him remaining in the Order, it made more sense for Em to be secret keeper. He was at risk of worrisome things happening, whereas Em was just that little more safer. Well a lot more safer actually.
André took the letter and read it over, Em shifting off of him, knowing he'd be leaving soon. "A meeting." He said, lowering the letter and giving her a peck on the forehead. "About time. Don't wait up, mi amor." André stood and headed for the front door, grabbing his cloak and leaving the home. He disapparated and arrived at the Headquarters. He held up his letter and it turned to ash, granting him entry. Alfrie was waiting patiently to take André's cloak. André handed it to him with a smile, thanking the elf before moving forward to where they always met. Upon entering the room he couldn't help but notice how empty it looked, and not just because no one was there yet, other than Albus. "Good evening Albus." André looked about the room. "A little unprepared this evening I see. Not a problem! Leave it to me, old friend." He smiled heartily to the older wizard and pulled out his wand. A few swishes her and there, a little flurry over there, a whizz, a whirl and the room was ready. "There." He said, sliding his wand away. The room looked better now, ready for a meeting. André had thought of setting the place up for dinner and having Alfrie whip up something delicious for everyone, but André had a feeling dinner party was not the sort of mood that Albus was going for this evening so he took a seat near the front where Albus' two private doors were and he struck up what would be a rather dark and quiet conversation with the man running the evening.

With such precision, the young man and the bartender seemed to be in sync with one another as another drink slid his way and he caught it without ever taking his eyes away from André. It was quite the talent, that was for sure! It left André wondering how often the young man came to this bar with this bar tender. They were exceptionally good at the passing of the drink so André figured the lad had to have been there fairly often and yet he'd never come across him before tonight. André had a talent of never forgetting a face and if he'd seen this young man and his handsome features, he would have been certain to have recalled him from memory. "Thank you for yours, young man. Thank you very much. Goodnight to you." And that was that. André gave a nod to the bar keep and collected his things. He placed his cloak around his shoulders and left the pub. He got the Knight bus home and as always it jostled him around this way an that, but it didn't matter. He made it home alive and in one piece then enjoyed a relaxing cup of tea with Em, something he always he insisted he made for the two of them after a night out, and together they sat on the sofa in the lounge, talking of their evening and immensely enjoying each others company.

André took a sip of his drink, swallowing it down and chuckling at the young lad he was chatting away to, "Bingo-bango!" He said happily, recalling how fierce his wife had once been in their youth and how he thought he was lucky to have a woman like her even talk to him, let alone agree to go out on a date with him. Their history went far back, farther than the young man at the bar could possibly comprehend, but it was a wonderful life they'd had together even through the ups and downs. There was a horrid period right now, losing friends so fast, but André knew that there would be a silver lining. They were following the orders of Albus Dumbledore and that man was the smartest that André knew, and that was saying something, he'd known quite a few people in his lifetime! Although perhaps Albus wasn't quite the wisest person he knew, that had to be Em, and not just because she was his little dumpling, she was an incredibly bright and intuitive individual and if she trusted Albus, then he did too. André knew that he would be completely lost without Em and her input.
Everyone had a tale of love, although this fellow got right down to it; "infatuation". That was a shame. There were many times that infatuation could be confused with love, quite often it wasn't until quite some time had passed that people realised that they'd not been in love, not true love. André knew both sides of the coin. Emily was the absolute love of his life, of that he was certain, but there had been other women before he'd found his Em. A couple of times he'd thought he was in love but it had turned out wrong somehow. It wasn't until he was with Emily that he realised just what love truly was. His own tales of infatuation disguised as love seemed to be similar to that of the young man's. "Love is a mystery, my friend. It can take a life time to navigate but once you find the one, you'll know." He said, raising what remained in his glass. It was almost time for him to take his leave. One drink was plenty for him. Too much and he couldn't apparate home which meant the Knight bus, and he had found out long ago that his stomach did not fare well on travelling on the awful thing. Floo was obviously out of the question, if he was too tipsy to apparate then he usually couldn't navigate the network all that well. Having his final mouthful André then placed his glass back down, letting out a sigh and patting his hands on his lap.

It was a lovely thing to be social. You learnt so many knew things along the way. People didn't know it but they were all teachers in their own way. André had had many conversations with many people in his life time and always learnt something new, be it about the world or whomever he was speaking with. Life was such a fascinating journey and André never wanted to take it for granted. He'd seen so many people lose their loved ones, and he'd even been unfortunate enough to lose people he loved, but that didn't mean life stopped, it never stopped, not really, you had to carry on and you had to keep pressing forward lest ye be lost to the demons of ones own mind. Being social was a lovely gift but it wasn't always endearing for others. André respected that greatly and so he would not force his company on anyone he thought would rather him scarper. This man, perhaps, seemed as though he might entertain an old bugger for a part of the evening and the idea that someone so young was willing to chat to someone as old as he was a lovely one. So often the young men of this day and age had better things to be doing, women to chase, battles to fight, but it was lovely to just be able to talk. Perhaps he could even pass on some wisdom, not that André really thought he had any such 'wisdom' but perhaps a little advice that might be handy.
The young man wondered about married life and André chuckled ever so gently, a soft smile gracing his lips that were now thinner than they had once been. "It's wonderful." He answered truthfully. Not many people got to wake up next to their loved ones and not many people ever had loved ones to start with. He'd found Em early on, still at school but they'd not dated until they were in their 20's, they'd married fast and they'd had so very long together, well over half their lives. "It's not the life for many, but for me it's ..." He sighed with a smile, not sure how he could possibly begin to explain what it was like being married to a woman that made him so incredibly happy. "I first knew I loved her when I was in my seventh year. A quidditch player grabbed her derrière and bam!" André splayed open his fingers, his hands held up at chest height. "She wasn't afraid of anyone or anything, especially not repercussions." He chuckled, still being able to vividly recall Em drawing back her first and slamming it into Roger Thomston's face. It was as though everything had slowed down and yet there was no way he could have avoided. People around had gasped before she'd even made contact. But André hadn't realised he was in love, he'd just thought it amusing, back then they were from different worlds but he'd learnt that that sort of thing truly didn't matter. "Have you ever found yourself in the clutches of love?" Perhaps the lad would have a tale of romance, perhaps he had nothing like that in his life, but he was still young, twenties, maybe thirties at a push, he had all the time in the world to fall in love.

Saturday night with a young lady. Now that was more like it. This type of fellow couldn't be single, at least not for long. André had a hunch that he was right about the chap, that he was quite the attractive sort to women and could get himself a date any time he pleased. Perhaps it was true love, perhaps it was just a single date. Perhaps it was good terms, perhaps they would never see one another again. No matter what, it seemed like a good thing. It seemed so positive in a world of negativity and it was rare to come by positive things these days. André tried his best to look for the good in the world, and when he couldn't find anything, he looked to his wife. She was the most pure human being that he knew and he was still honoured to this day that she was his wife. She'd put up with him for decades and there wasn't a day go by that he wasn't thankful for her. Just like any couple they had their little tiffs, but there was never anything big enough to blow them apart and he would not of had it any other way.
"Oh, what a way to spend a night." He said with a smile, not yet having touched his beer, "If you'd rather, I can find another spot." He said, not wanting to impose himself on the gentleman's 'me night'. If the bloke had come out looking for a quiet drink then André was probably ruining the poor guy's entire evening! Well not ruining, he wasn't throwing beer over him by any means, or anything of the like, but he was disturbing him and André was more than happy to get his Newspaper, sit at a table and have his pint while he read the stories and did the puzzles for a couple of hours. There was no rushing back for him but he did like to sneak into bed when Em was all cosied up and see if she was in the mood for a little fun.

André chuckled at the seemingly young man. Just the one? The lad barely looked old enough to have more than one story, but looks could be deceiving. In these trying times it was hard to come across someone with only the one story. The most common themes these days were loss; heartbreak. It was devastating an entire generation, multiple generations in fact, but it was something that couldn't be avoided right now. André hoped that those that were directly involved were staying safe, were getting through it all with minimal scarring, both physically and mentally speaking. There was a lot to lose hope over but so much more to gain by fighting for what was right. Tonight, however, André was not fighting, not unless he absolutely had to. He was wiser in his older age, or so he liked to think, and had learnt long ago that some fights were not worth fighting. There were many battles in life and you had to pick yours wisely. It was okay to lose one here and there, but some were extremely important to win.
The young man was spot on but it wasn't all that difficult to realise that André was indeed drinking alone this evening. André nodded and smiled, "Indeed I am." He said, neither bothered by the statement of the young man nor the idea that he was drinking alone. He'd done it many times before and he'd do it many times again, "And how about yourself this evening? Not wining and dining any fine young ladies tonight?" It was a Sunday but the fellow before André seemed to be quite attractive, André thought. He had a very nice ... look, about him. André wasn't sure completely. He could see what young women might see in the young man but he was no expert in these things. Em was the one that liked to look over young men and day dream about what their grandchildren might be like should Dorcas procreate with the gentleman in question. André simply 'hmm'ed in response more often than not and allowed her to get on with it, not sure that Dorcas would ever be ready to have children of her own.

Once a week André liked to visit a pub. He'd visited many in his lifetime and it was great to sit at the bar, read a newspaper or chat with some friends, depending on who was around. Every now and then he made a new acquaintance and he felt his life was all the more richer for it. Having come from a family that liked to socialise among only those of their standards and to throw money at problems, André had found that in life it wasn't about how much gold or influence you had, it was about the experiences you'd had along the way and the people you met. Would he remember everyone? Merlin, no! His memory wasn't that spectacular, but was he a better person for all those meetings? You betcha! Not all of his experiences had been positive, you couldn't go through life expecting everything to be coming up roses, but he'd given life his best go and he was still kicking, he was still striving to do not necessarily was 'right' but what felt right by him.
Tonight's little tipple was just at the Hollow Tree Inn. It was a place he'd been coming to a little more frequently in the more recent months after dear Tristan's heart shattering demise, and he felt like he had some kind of duty to look out for the lad's family. André had met his father at the funeral, introduced himself and joined Jim for a drink at the old Hollow before. It was a lovely little community here, a mix of magical and muggle, and André hand wanted to move here many moons ago, but he and Em had chosen another little path in life, somewhere a little more quiet with a few more muggles and André could look back on that decision and remain happy with it.
Tonight the bar was quiet but most places were on a Sunday evening. Quite often it would be a Sunday night that André ventured out on. He would have Dorcas over during the afternoon, and over the past year and a bit, Dorian had joined them too. Beautiful River and her wonderful husband Bert had had a couple of Sunday lunches with them and in their place their daughter came. It was sorrowful to think of so many young lives gone, Ariel missing out on having her mother and father present through her entire life, but André hoped that they could help support and guide her through life, they were doing their best, especially Dorian who thought the absolute world of that child. He'd lost his love but into his life came another. Into all their lives. André hadn't failed to notice how Dorcas and Geralina dotted on the sweet little lamb and he and Em would support Dorian in any way that he needed to raise Ariel. And of course there was Julian. He seemed nice enough, he joined them for the occasional Sunday but André wasn't completely sold, however he did truly believe he adored his sister and that he only wanted the best for Ariel, André just feared that perhaps Julian's version of what was best for Ariel might differ from what was actually best for her.
André stood up to the bar and ordered himself a pint of the local beer they had on tap. While the tender poured the rich aroma of hops and malt into the glass, André looked about the establishment. Very quiet, but there was an unfamiliar face, just down the bar, that looked a little lost in the world. Perhaps André was just self-projecting a smidge, but he believed that the gentleman a little farther down could do with a chat and if not, then no harm, no foul.
Paying for his pint in the typical muggle currency, André proceeded to move his way down the bar, taking his pint with him, stopping a little way from the other gentleman. "Mind if I join you?" He asked, looking intrigued at the man, a small smile as he took in the long appearance and the long, brown hair of the stranger to match, "You look like a man with a story to tell." And stories were always worth telling, especially with a drink and a friendly ear wiling to listen to joys and troubles alike.

Em skidaddled into the dining room and André looked up from where he was crouched, peering through the oven door, looking to see if everything was ready. There was a lot of food in that oven, even if it didn't seem like it could hold a whole lot. Magic came in extremely handy like that! Wigging his brows at Em he stood up from his crouched position and turned the oven down low, making his way over to his wife he ditched the tea towel he'd been holding, leaving it to rest on the kitchen counter. He heard footsteps coming down stairs and he wrapped his arms about Em's waist, knowing she'd been listening in on Dorcas and just what she was up to. Em was a little snoopy like that and André loved it, he loved her with every fibre of his being and it came as no surprise to him that she wanted to know just exactly what Dorcas was up to, after all their daughter had never been the maternal sort yet she cooed over the little girl she liked to hog from time to time.
Dorcas was very much like Emily in a lot of ways but that maternal need that Emily had and craved was not one of them. He and Em could have been happy with a large family, they'd wanted and tried for so many children. They'd suffered so many losses but Dorcas was their one and only living born child. Em always hoped that someday they'd have grandchildren, only ever really thinking they could have grandchildren through Dorcas, neither of them had ever expected to have a surrogate grandchild. It was a tragic circumstance in which they'd come to care for Ariel so often and one they'd never be able to forget. Burt and River had been such loving and kind people and André knew they would have been the most incredible parents in the world to their daughter. He hoped that somewhere they both knew that their daughter, while without her parents, was still loved and cherished by all those in her life. She even seemed to have softened up Dorcas which was something they'd never have expected although it did give Emily hope of more grandchildren. Truth be told André found himself with a little hope too.
"I'm just going to start carving now, mon trésor." He pecked her on the side of the cheek and then released her from his embrace. He took a step back, spinning about in a half turn as he went. The roast meats were already out and resting, the vegetables were done and staying hot in the oven. He waved his wand again and again, taking control of his kitchen as meats were sliced to perfection and the vegetables made their way out of the oven. Everything was flowing perfectly as the serving dishes hovered over the counter and André arranged the meat and vegetables. Happy in his own little world of meat and veg he wasn't paying attention to anyone else coming or going from the dining room, nor what Em was up to, he just focused himself fully on his meal, hoping his guests would enjoy themselves and the food, leaving here later with a full and happy tums. This was a strange first Christmas for all of them and he hoped with all the faith that he had that everyone would be too happy to mourn, just reminisce with fond memories of their loved ones. It was going to be a difficult day.

Christmas was one of André's favourite times of year, to have the family under one roof was just wonderful. Of course it was like this most weekends considering there weren't all that many in the family but when it was Christmas there just seemed to be something special and extra magical about the occasion. The food, the atmosphere, the cold weather and the roaring fire. The decorations and continuing traditions. It was wonderful to André, he and Emily were so family orientated that to get everyone together, even if they weren't blood related, was such a fulfilling feeling. They were of course missing some loved ones, Paris wouldn't be with them this year but they would have the pleasure of Geralina's company and he and Emily thought the absolute world of Geralina. Tersha was spending this Christmas with her own parents but the Meadowes' were playing host to young Julian here who seemed absolutely delightful. It would have been more wonderful to have had River and Bert with them but life was full of evil, heartbreaking bludgers that stole good people from their lives all too soon.
"Yes, yes," he said with a beaming smile, positively delightful, "I'm absolutely wonderful. It's an absolute pleasure to be meeting you." He'd heard a little about Julian through his chats with River and a little through Emily from her brief encounter with him. Dorcas hadn't mentioned anything of him but she wasn't always the chatty type so whether or not she'd met Julian before André wasn't certain. "I am, Chef André at your service." He chuckled, "Though I should be returning to the kitchen. Can't be go ruining lunch on a day like today!" He offered a smile and small nod of his head before he left the living room, passing by Emily and giving her a peck on the cheek. Lunch was going splendidly and it wouldn't be long until he was serving the food in serving dishes for his friends and family to help themselves to. He'd cooked more than enough for everyone that they'd invited and they always invited a lot of people, they'd had many people come and go from their lives but the good ones, the loving ones were always invited back in at any time.
