There was absolutely no reason at all not to trust Julian. He was River's brother, she'd spoken of him ever so fondly and yet Dorcas didn't like or trust the smarmy looking git. He'd not done anything as of yet and he seemed to get on well enough with Dorian, although Dorcas could feel how awkward and stale their conversation was running. She arched a brow as Julian sat himself down, just as Dorian mentioned it would be good to see Geralina again. Next Dorcas heard her mum calling out to her with that bloody awful nickname that Dorcas just loathed. She smothered Ariel's little cheek with some kisses and rather than handing her over to Julian, she decided she'd let Dorian make that call on whether or not to trust his estranged half-brother. For a moment Dorcas wondered if Julian was who he said he was, but she supposed Dorian would have looked into absolutely every possible angle of this man and decided that yes, he was who he said he was. Shame. With that smug face it would have been fun to rough it up a little ... or a lot. "Nanna Em needs me, Fish Face." She said, gently squeezing Ariels cherub cheeks together before she passed Ariel on over to Dorian then left the room.
Once through the little hall and into the dining room she spotted her mum setting up the table and her dad performing magic there was no way in hell she'd ever be able to pull off. Flying knives, plating meat and all that was just too much for Dorcas. She'd probably accidentally kill someone mixing magic with knives. She was far better with knives hand on, although she was good at slashing rather than slicing thin meat. She had no reason to need to slice meat. If she was using her knives then she wasn't carving a roast, she was defending and hacking! Her mum asked her to get the drinks ready and her dad directed her to the fridge. Much like a lot of the house the fridge was magically enlarged to hold more than you'd think. She pulled out some pitchers and wine, setting them on a clear space on the kitchen counter. As he had with food, her dad had gone to all kinds of extremes with the drinks, juices, water, sparkling water, various wines that Dorcas really only knew as 'white' despite their names being printed on the labels.

Dreaming of a family Christmas It was weird working on Christmas Day. She hadn't even thought about that element of working at a boarding school, that the staff - or at least some of them - would be required to stay over the holidays. She had been asked to work this year, and though it had been kind of crappy to have to tell her family that she couldn't be with them to celebrate on the day, she'd still managed to work something out so that she could escape the castle for a few hours. Dorcas' parents had always been lovingly dubbed 'Auntie Em' and 'Uncle Andre' by Geralina since she was at school. They were such loving people, and she always had an invite to any occasion with them, even after Paris had died she had still carried on going to the Meadowes family. They kept her connected in a way Dorcas couldn't. Though Dorcas was Paris' cousin, she was as useless as a chocolate teapot - not that chocolate was ever useless - when it came to opening up about her emotions, and so getting any kind of Paris connection from her was impossible. Her parents, however, had pictures of Paris dotted about their home, and spoke about their niece openly and with great affection. It helped heal Geralina's heart to be around them, and so she had found a way to get away from the castle for lunch. Her booted feet landed on the snow covered street just outside the boundary of their lovely little cottage, and she stomped the snow off of them before walking up the path to the front door. She wasn't sure who else would be there today. Certainly all of the Meadoweses, possibly Dorian and his adorable baby niece. Or was she his daughter now? It was hard to know what to refer to her as in such a sensitive situation, but whatever she was called, niece, daughter, she was the most precious little thing. Geralina smiled as the bell on the door gave its familiar chime, and she waited for someone to answer, hoping she hadn't missed dinner altogether. She had a gift bag gripped in one hand filled with presents for the family, and she had almost forgotten it in her rush to get out of the castle. It wasn't unusual for her to be late to most places that she went, but she'd feel awful if she was knocking on their door while they were in the middle of eating. And oh, she could smell the food. Please let there be some potatoes left, at the very least! Andre's potatoes were everything! _______________________ tag: Dorcas Amilie Meadowes , Dorian Michael Humbert , Julian Astraeus Blackthorne , Emily Jane Meadowes and André Daniel Meadowes . notes: <3 outfit: T'is the season to be awkward! template by izzy [googlefont="Lovers Quarrel"]

The idea of some random stranger, claiming to be Ariel's long lost uncle, being at their Christmas wasn't something Dorcas was all that comfortable with, and having met Julian there just seemed to be something ... slimy about him. Dorcas knew that could completely be in her imagination because she was against this Julian fella turning up in Ariel's life when he couldn't even be bother being a stable presence in his sister's life, but he expected to be around for Ariel? Dorcas doubted it. She didn't know a whole lot about Julian but what she did know was enough to make her unsure of him to the point that if he stepped one toe out of line, she'd take great pleasure in hexing his arse into next week. Dorian probably wouldn't approve but then Dorcas often thought he was too soft for his own good. He'd failed in protecting Paris and if Julian had any notions of harming Ariel or stealing her away from then Dorcas wouldn't fail to act whereas she believed Dorian would give Julian many benefits of the doubt, something Dorcas was not willing to do. Julian would have to earn trust, a few cute stories from River were not enough for Dorcas to like him on any level.
The doorbell rang and Dorcas went straight for it, leaving her parents to finish getting Christmas lunch ready. Dorian and Julian were in the lounge where she'd just left them and with a quick glance in she spied that Julian was still Ariel-less. Perfect because at the door would be none other than baby-hungry Geralina who absolutely adored little Ariel. The dark haired beauty didn't have any children of her own but Dorcas could tell she wanted a brood of her own. She would make a great mother some day, she just had to find a nice guy to settle down with because she wasn't really the sort to go out and get knocked up by some random bloke, though getting knocked up by some rando-bloke would be a damn sight better than putting up with her dub-arse ex another day longer. Why she and Tristan weren't up for making it work again made no sense, those two were adorable and needed to date again and have a cute little family. Hell Dorcas would be up for babysitting every now and then for the two of them.
Reaching the door, Dorcas pulled it open knowing who would be on the other side. She took a step back to give the new arrival the space she would need to enter, plus it would ensure Dorcas wouldn't get knocked over when she told Geralina that Ariel was only a few steps away. Dorcas smiled at the wintery delight that was Geralina Drake. She was a vision as always. The snow around made her skin appear to be glowing, shining bright which only went ahead and made her eyes look all the more brilliantly blue. If they hadn't been friends for so long Dorcas would definitely had some kind of a crush on the Hogwarts librarian, as it was Dorcas had no such feelings, she just thought Geralina was crazy good looking. "Merry Christmas," Dorcas didn't bother stopping for long winded pleasantries, she knew exactly where Geralina's mind would be, "Ariel's just in the lounge." She smiled, gladly offering up that information, wondering if Geralina was going to bother taking off her coat first or if she'd forget all about it and head straight in to see little Ariel on her first Christmas. Ariel certainly was not short on people who loved her.

Dreaming of a family Christmas It only took a moment for the door to open, and Geralina's eyes drank in the gorgeous sight of Dorcas Meadowes. She was a tiny little thing, but just stunning, and she knew it, and in that dress she'd have Santa himself drooling and divorcing Mrs Claus for a shot at the Auror. "You look amazing!" Geralina grinned at her friend, who had been just as tiny and just as beautiful back when they were only first and second years at Hogwarts, and held out the bag of Christmas presents as she stepped through the door, Dorcas wishing her a Merry Christmas. Geralina was about to wish her the same and maybe give her a quick hug despite Dorcas not being the affectionate type, but the brunette's next words halted any plans she had immediately. "Merry-eeeeeee!" she squealed halfway through her greeting, her smile brightening as she completely bypassed Dorcas altogether and practically pranced into the lounge to see the cutest baby she had ever seen. That wasn't even an exaggeration, Ariel was just that adorable. Her pace slowed when she entered the room and saw a strange guy sitting there opposite Dorian, who had Ariel in his lap. It didn't halt her completely, I mean, there was a strange - and gorgeous, oh Merlin! - guy in the room, but it wasn't enough to squash her excitement at seeing Ariel for her first Christmas. "Hi," she greeted the two men a little sheepishly, her usual awkwardness not letting her down. Thanks awkwardness. But she still crossed the room and bent to beam at little Ariel, her tone much more enthusiastic this time. "Hi, beautiful!" she cooed, stroking a gentle hand over Ariel's soft hair, and glancing to Dorian. "Can I have a cuddle?" she asked, already scooping Ariel up without an answer and holding her close. "She's gotten so big!" She was certainly heavier, and look how strong she was, practically holding herself up, though Geralina kept a careful hand on the back of her head, just in case she thrashed. Dropping Dorian's baby on Christmas day would not be the best move. "You're so big! Yes you are!" she said to Ariel, who beamed at the attention she was getting. "Happy first Christmas, Santa gave me some surprises for you!" She sat herself down on a chair with the baby, completely engrossed in fussing over her for more of those smiles. She hadn't even noticed that she still had her coat on. _______________________ tag: Dorcas Amilie Meadowes , Dorian Michael Humbert , Julian Astraeus Blackthorne , Emily Jane Meadowes and André Daniel Meadowes . notes: <3 outfit: T'is the season to be awkward! template by izzy [googlefont="Lovers Quarrel"]

My promise to you always and forever
The conversation between the brothers had indeed been stale, and Dorian was grateful for the distraction Dorcas’ presence created, even if she was being a bit of a… well, rather Dorcas-like. Dorian knew to expect such things from her, but he had hoped she’d rein it in a bit since it was Christmas and Julian was a guest. Dorian still considered himself a guest in the Meadowes’ home but he was well aware that Andre, Emily, and Dorcas viewed him less as a guest and more as some strange sort of family. He liked the idea, but it unnerved him all the same. Family was a dangerous commodity for an Auror and the house was quickly filling with more collateral. Emily’s voice sounded from the other room, using a nickname he’d seen Dorcas make a face at many times before. The younger witch liked to tease him about the face he pulled whenever she got too annoying with him, but she had her own face and Dorian was no stranger to witnessing it in this delightful cottage. He very much doubted that Dorcas was even aware of the expression she made when “Cassie” was used so lovingly. Passing Julian, Dorcas held Ariel out for Dorian and he gladly accepted her. Turning her around to sit on his knee, her back in the crook of his arm creating a little chair for her. He kissed the top of her head and then tilted his head to look at her face. She was gazing in Julian’s direction while shoving her entire first into her mouth like a slobbery dummy. Julian hadn’t asked to hold his niece yet, which Dorian found odd, so he kept the sweet angel on his lap and made cooing sounds back at her, jiggling his leg so that she bounced and giggled with delight. Spending time with Ariel was much preferred to forcing conversation with his half-brother but he couldn’t bring himself to ignore the man altogether. That would have been rude and no way to mend this strange family they were a part of. The doorbell rang just as Dorian looked to Julian, about to speak, when Geralina appeared practically out of thin air and began cooing over Ariel who responded in kind with big blue eyes that lapped up the attention and tiny, saliva coated hands that reached for Geralina’s dark curls. The witch scooped up the infant and Dorian was once again relieved of baby duty whether he appreciated it or not.
“Happy Christmas, Geri,” Dorian said with a smile, as the woman sat in a chair between the two men. Dorian watched as Ariel responded to the melodic voice of the witch holding her. “Hopefully Santa did not go too wild,” he said knowingly. Geralina positively adored little Ariel and Dorian had a feeling that her copious amounts of affection did not end with cuddles and baby-talk. "We're already a very spoiled little miss, aren't we?"

Dreaming of a Family Christmas He supposed now was as good a time as any to make a play for Ariel. Dorian was sat with her on his knee, Dorcas had buggered off to answer the door, and there was really no reason at all for him to hold off showing the baby some affection. It would seem odd if he didn't, wouldn't it? An uncle who didn't request to hold his niece on her first Christmas was no real uncle at all, and Julian was certainly wanting to fit the bill perfectly for little Ariel. She deserved to have family that she could rely on, that she could turn to and feel comfortable with. He would not be a cold, withdrawn influence in her life. He shifted in his seat, mouth opening, about to ask Dorian if he could take the tot, when a tall brunette stormed into the room like a whirlwind and snatched Ariel from Dorian with such enthusiasm that Jules could only stare. Quite taken aback by how comfortable this woman seemed with Ariel, he couldn't help but wonder how well she knew the baby. Did she see Ariel often? Jealousy pulsed through him as he watched her take a seat, Dorian greeting her warmly. "Geralina, I presume?" he asked, offering her a charming smile, though there was a subtle tightness to it that he just couldn't hide. He was annoyed. This was annoying, and as beautiful as she was, his usual desire to flirt was squashed for now, by the fact that he felt incredibly pushed out when it came to his niece. Like a second class citizen, and it did not sit well with him at all, given that he spent most of his adult life feeling that way about being a werewolf. He held out his hand to the woman, who sat between himself and Dorian with Ariel in her arms. "Julian Blackthorne," he introduced himself, eyes locked on hers, half in a bid to intimidate, half just to get a better look at her. She really was beautiful, though he could sense some discomfort coming off of her. "Ariel's uncle." He didn't expect her to know who he was at all, and if she did, that just meant that Dorian and his girlfriend spoke about him behind his back, which was very interesting, to say the least. _______________________ tag: Geralina Amara Drake , Dorian Michael Humbert , André Daniel Meadowes , Emily Jane Meadowes and Dorcas Amilie Meadowes notes: <3 words: 426 outfit: Simply sexy. template by izzy[googlefont="Dancing Script"]

Dreaming of a family Christmas Geralina let out a gentle laugh when Dorian told her Ariel was already quite spoiled. "Well, she's the only one to spoil," she countered, stroking Ariel's soft curls as she bobbed the baby up and down on her knee. "Is there such a thing as being too spoiled for your first Christmas?" she asked Ariel, who grinned up at her. A definite no. She was sure Dorian wasn't the type to spoil a child, he was far too sensible, and was probably one of those people who only kept toys that were being played with regularly, and gave the rest away to a charity or something. Unlike Geralina, who still had cat toys that none of her cats played with any more, and had a terrible tendency to hoard things until the end of time. It wasn't really a purposeful decision, she was just far too sentimental, and she knew she needed to toughen up, but really, when you had a magical attic that could hold an immeasurable amount of crap, you really didn't need to throw anything away if you didn't want to. That was her excuse anyway, and she was sticking to it for now. Maybe one day she would harden herself up and have a good clear out. Maybe. It might be an idea to let Dorian loose in her attic one day. In the very very distant future. If she ever lost her mind. She turned to the fair man on her other side as he said her name, realising that she didn't have a clue who he was, but he must have been told there was someone called Geralina coming today. That made her feel uncomfortable immediately. What else had they said about her? Feeling a little bit on the spot as he looked at her, she met his gaze, but wanted desperately to look away. She couldn't. He was so handsome, and that was enough to throw her off keel without him actually speaking to her. Julian Blackthorne. Had she heard that name before? Probably not, but he followed up by telling her that he was Ariel's Uncle, and then it all clicked into place. Dorian's long lost brother! Well his gorgeousness made sense now, too. He was related to Hot Humbert, for Merlin's sake. "Oh, hi!" She sounded as surprised as she was, though she did manage to hold her hand out and shake his quickly. "It's nice to meet you." She glanced down at Ariel with a wide smile, her awkwardness fading slightly when she focused on the baby. "Is this your uncle?" she asked, turning Ariel around so that she could see Julian a bit better. "Do you want to go to Uncle Julian?" She placed a swift kiss on the top of Ariel's head and passed her over to Julian carefully, feeling like she really couldn't keep the baby from her family any longer, even though she'd only held her for all of a couple of minutes. _______________________ tag: Dorcas Amilie Meadowes , Dorian Michael Humbert , Julian Astraeus Blackthorne , Emily Jane Meadowes and André Daniel Meadowes . notes: <3 words: 537 outfit: T'is the season to be awkward! template by izzy [googlefont="Lovers Quarrel"]

Dorcas smirked as Geralina dashed in and swept Ariel up in all of zero point seven five seconds! It was really quite a talent that she possessed. It was even more amusing to Dorcas, as she shut the door, that Julian hadn't had cuddles with his niece. It was perhaps a little cruel of her, especially on today of all days but she didn't like the guy that much and so she felt her way of dealing with him was entirely valid, plus she wasn't being completely cruel, she wasn't denying him time with his niece, she was just making it awkward for him because who was he really? Did he truly deserve to be in Ariel's family? Dorcas didn't care if Ariel and Julian were blood related, she'd do anything to look out for Ariel, even if it meant making Julian's life hell.
Heading towards the lounge after the door was shut, Dorcas saw Geralina talking to Dorian and then to Julian. She knew her parents were in the kitchen, getting ready for the lunch which would be served up any second now, but she made her way into the lounge, passing by Julian who was now having cuddles with his niece, and sat herself down on Dorian's lap, wrapping her left arm around his right shoulder. "I have a favour to ask." She said a little quietly, not wanting to ruin anyone's Christmas with the details of their job but she wasn't sure when she'd see Dorian next, "It's work related so I'll steal you away a little later after lunch. Think fast," she pecked the side of his cheek with a little kiss and swung her legs around to stand up. She straightened out her skirt in front of Dorian, making sure to run her hands over her arse in particular and then made her way to the kitchen to pretend as though she could actually help in some way.

Emily was delighted to be enjoying Christmas with loved ones once more. There were many of them missing but so many more new faces. She would welcome them all with open arms and wish them all the very best in their lives. Julian was only new to their home but if he was half the man River made him out to be then he would always be welcome amongst them. Dorian was almost a permanent fixture these days and as much as Emily loved that she hoped that he found his feet in the world. He was a wonderful man and he cared so very much for his niece that she wanted to see happiness for him. She would help with the baby whenever he needed someone to look after her but she hoped he and Julian found a relationship that worked for the both of them so they could share Ariel. Em didn’t know too much about Julian but she knew that River had wanted her brother in her daughter’s life so for the sake of the sweet little cherub, Emily hoped that Julian could find the will to settle down and find a permanent home for his little niece.
Em called everyone to the table once she'd helped André cover it with food. André chatted away happily with Geralina about how he'd grown the veggies himself and she was ever so kind in allowing him to go on and on about the subject. Ariel was passed around from person to person so everyone got a chance to eat, but more importantly they all got a chance for cuddles with the precious angel. It was her first Christmas and one they would all surely remember for a long, long while.
Happy banter and cheerful faces at her table left Emily with that feeling of joy she only ever got at Christmas time. She relaxed into her chair as the dishes magically made their way to the kitchen and began washing themselves. She looked about her little dining table and watched as everyone talked and enjoyed their Christmas day. A gentle hand came over the top of her own and Emily’s eyes met with those of her husband’s. Together the smiled and looked down the table to their family.
