PERSONALITY Boggart: Spiders. Geralina has been terrified of spiders since she can remember. There's no reason for it, it's a completely irrational fear. Mirror of Erised: Geralina just wants to be a mother. Obviously that would come with a husband, and she hopes he will be a good, decent man, someone who can make her laugh, and comfort her and probably someone who will encourage her to not be so stuck in her shell all of the time. But she would see herself sitting on the floor playing games and giggling with her babies. She wants at least four, maybe even six if it's easy enough! A big family is all her heart truly desires. Patronus: Tiger - Geralina's happiest memory is her first ever dance show that she did as a child. It took a lot of bravery for such a shy girl like her to get up on a stage in front of a whole audience and do a dance routine - even if she was with 15 other kids - and she always remembers the elation she felt at doing the thing she loved more than anything in the world. Dancing is still her happy place to this day. As a child, Geralina was incredibly shy. She wouldn't talk to anyone she didn't know, and only made exceptions for other children, adults wouldn't even get so much as a hello out of her. She was very polite, with impeccable manners, but if it came to conversation, she would clam up and you would get a nod of the head of a shrug at best. Behind closed doors with her family, she was loud and funny and always singing and dancing, full of life and caring and affectionate. She was highly intelligent and always had her nose stuck in a book, with a highly active imagination. Everybody was of the opinion that she was a lovely girl, and it was true. She stayed this way through her teens, only coming out of her shell bit by bit enough to talk to Professors, though she would never raise her hand in class to answer questions, and would want to run away if she was ever called on or had to speak in front of the class. Public speaking is still a horror for her. She'd rather eat worms. She never had any trouble making friends, and though she was a clever clogs, was sorted into Hufflepuff, since she was a very well rounded character. She loves animals, and could usually be found cuddling random cats around the castle, as well as her own cat and owl, which she still has today (they're pensioners now). As an adult, she is more confident, still quiet around new people and a bit socially awkward at times because of this, but she has learned a lot in life. She has had relationships that have taught her a lot about herself, and she has seen darkness and overcome it, always managing to find the bright side in any situation. She does have her own bad points, besides the shyness. She can be manipulative, and is a pro at getting her own way, especially since most people wouldn't suspect someone so nice to be capable of manipulation, but she is adept at it in her own ways (When offered a choice between a Sapphire and a Ruby - "Oh, but they're both so pretty! I just don't know which to choose!" With such dithering that she ends up getting both.) She's very indecisive but it's getting better with age. She is secretive. Mostly because she worries people would judge her if they found out a lot of what she really thinks, and she'd rather avoid risking embarrassment. She is also a people-pleaser. She will go out of her way to make sure everyone else is happy, and stress herself out incredibly to try and achieve this, which isn't always possible and can sometimes make her seem insincere since she's chopping and changing trying to keep everyone sweet. She hates arguments and confrontation, absolutely loathes them and feels sick just at the thought, though that being said, if you piss her off (and it takes a lot to push her buttons this much, she's very patient in general), she has a mighty temper, and will surprise you with how sharp her tongue can be. That sharp tongue can also be a good thing though, as it's her main source of humour, Geralina is very sarcastic and witty, and people who get past her shy barrier and become her friend get to see this wonderful fun side to her, the girl who is great at making people laugh, the girl who is actually a lot of fun and will dance on tables all night with just a glass of water in her hand, the girl who will sit with you and hug you for hours when you're sad, or destroy her own kitchen making cakes because you're hungry (she's getting pretty good at cooking lately!), and the girl with a huge heart who is probably the most loyal person on the planet (to the point where people take advantage and hurt her). HISTORY Mother: Evelyn Drake, 56, Former Professional Figure Skater (Now an Instructor), Pureblood, Gryffindor Alumni. Father: Leonidus Drake, 57, Ministry Worker, Pureblood Death Eater, Slytherin Alumni. Siblings: Llian Drake, 40, Dragonologist, Ravenclaw Alumni, Order Member Flynn Drake, 36, Daily Prophet Reporter, Slytherin Alumni, Neutral Partners: None. Others: Tala, 18 year old elf owl. Chase, 18 year old tabby cat. Rigel, 2 year old Maine Coon kitten (formerly belonging to Geralina's deceased best friend, Paris). Pippa, 4 year old Spaniel (formerly belonging to River Blackthorne and Bert Pipp before they were killed) Geralina Drake was the third child of Evelyn and Leonidus, a Pureblood couple with two sons. Life wasn't perfect, but the children were loved, by their mother at least. Leonidus was a different story. When he had met Evelyn as youngsters (just seventeen!), he had been romantic, loving, fun, the perfect partner, and they had married straight away, and had Llian when they were only eighteen. Flynn was born three years later, and then trouble began to slowly creep in. Leonidus was beginning to mix with the wrong sort of people. He would go out a lot more with friends, and began to treat Evelyn differently at home. Cagey about his job at the Ministry, he became secretive, and increasingly arrogant and cold-hearted toward his family. He would encourage his two young boys to fight each other, and began to wind them up, taking favourites with little Flynn because he was feistier than Llian, who was a gentle soul. Tension was common place in the Drake household, and it took until after the birth of their only daughter, Geralina, for Evelyn to finally see sense. She discovered he was involved with Death Eaters, and that he had gone too far down a dark path and he would never be able - or want - to come back. He was violent and cruel, and uninterested in anything other than his own ways, and so she kicked him out. Packed his bags, changed the locks, and never allowed him near his family again. To her relief - and obviously it was heartbreaking - he didn't bother with them again, didn't contact the children even to send a birthday card or ask if they were okay. Little Geralina wasn't even a year old yet, and was oblivious to the whole thing. She grew up in a happy home with her mum and brothers, though the age gap between her and her siblings meant she craved company sometimes, since she couldn't join in with their activities most of the time. Her mother was a Professional figure skater (a passion Evelyn had had since she was a small girl), and liked to keep Muggle things in her children's lives, having loved Muggle studies at school. Evelyn had a Muggle profession and they even had a television in their home. A very unusual lifestyle for a Pureblood family, but Geralina loved it. It wasn't limiting, which she felt a lot of her magical friends were, limited. Limited by magic? It sounded ridiculous, but that was how she saw it. Muggles were just as fascinating, and she was well integrated into their ways. She even attended Muggle dance classes from the age of six, which fired up a passion in her that still burns strong today. She could sing like an angel and was one of the best in her dance school, being a fast learner and having such a natural ability she was pushed for solos in shows, which horrified her, and she always refused, feeling too shy for something like that. Her brothers were both at Hogwarts by this point. Llian a Ravenclaw, Flynn a Slytherin, and she knew her time would come, and actually looked forward to it, the only thing worrying her was being away from home and her mum, which she wasn't used to at all. She was very close to her mum from the word go, and quite clingy with her, since she never had a father, so it was hard to say goodbye on the platform that day, and the train journey was spent with a lump in her throat, though she wouldn't cry, she didn't want anyone to see her upset (Geralina still never cries in front of anyone). She was placed in Hufflepuff, which was fine by her, and Flynn was in his final year so he looked after her for her whole first year, which she supposed made the transition a lot easier than it might have been. She made friends easily enough, and her Professors loved her because she was so bright and a quick study, the only complaint they had was that she didn't participate in class discussions, and wasn't active enough in lessons, though she did the work perfectly and got excellent grades, eventually graduating with all O's and E's. She also played as Seeker for the Hufflepuff Quidditch team for the last three years of her schooling, which she adored. Adult life came as a bit of a slap in the face for Geralina, as she still had that crippling shyness and awkwardness around new people, and had been in the safe cocoon of Hogwarts for seven years. She of course went back to her mother's house, and spent her first year doing nothing, though when she looks back on this, she doesn't know why she wasn't brave enough to just get out there. She would go out with friends, and even dated a bit, but it wasn't until she was 20, and found the courage to apply for a job in Flourish and Blotts that she actually felt like her life was starting. She met Drew, a wizard who worked at the post office in Diagon Alley, he was cute, but pushy, and he pestered her for a date for months before she gave in (again, her being too scared to just go for it). They ended up being together for six years, they had a home together, and had their whole future planned out. But something never quite seemed right. You see Drew was selfish. He was the type of person to just do his own thing, whether that fitted in with his life or not. He lost a few jobs over the years because of it (couldn't get up for work in the mornings), and since Geralina loved him, she would overlook it, and let him have his weird habits and encourage him to get new jobs and give him all the support he could possibly need. As it turned out, she was destined to follow in the footsteps of her own mother, and it soon became apparent to Geralina that there was something very wrong with Drew. As the years went by, his darkness began to show more and more, and she would make excuses for it, and cover for him because she was in love, but her family and friends would warn her constantly, and she would always ignore them, hoping he would change. It was only last year that he finally snapped, and their petty arguments about him staying up all night, about them never going anywhere together or making any plans, about how stuck their relationship was (six years and no ring? Geralina never said it herself, she's not pushy enough.) Drew lashed out and hit her during a 2am argument about him being about to lose another job because he'd never be able to wake up in the morning. Accommodating and quiet as this good girl was, she had limits, and she told him to get out right there and then in the middle of the night. He put up no fight, packing a bag and storming out of the house. She threw the rest of his belongings out and never contacted him again. So when a job opening came up at Hogwarts for a librarian, Geralina saw it as her opportunity for a fresh start. And she was not going to waste her time making excuses or being scared anymore. She applied, and her years of experience working at Flourish and Blotts secured her the job, and she packed and moved into a small cottage on the outskirts of Hogsmeade instantly with her silver tabby cat Chase and her elf owl Tala, feeling relieved and more than happy to be back at the familiar castle, where she now helps to keep the library running perfectly. Geralina's best friend, Paris, whom she had known since their very first year at Hogwarts together, also got a job at the castle that year, teaching Astronomy and living in a cottage in the same street in Hogsmeade as Geralina. It was perfect. Making a fresh start in life and having your very best friend, the sister you always wanted, right by your side to share it with you and hold your hand. Life was wonderful. For a full six months it was filled with hope and happiness and positivity, until May of 1978, when Paris was killed by Death Eaters in a senseless attack. Geralina was absolutely devastated, and felt completely lost. She cried for months, and took in Paris' kitten, Rigel, clinging on to every last bit of her beautiful best friend that she could. It's been seven months now, and Geralina is slowly learning to live with the huge hole in her life, focusing on the friends that she still has, and spending her time trying to fullfil the promise that she made to Paris after her death; that Geralina would start living her life and stop being so scared to put herself out there.
