Don't let me hear you say life is taking you nowhere
Amelia stood in front of the painting, taking advantage of this soon to be rare moment of quiet. In less than half an hour the gallery would be full of posh socialites all vying for the chance to purchase one of the many fine works on display tonight. Amelia frowned as she looked at the painting in font of her. It evoked such loneliness; she didn’t like the feeling but the work itself was magnificent. Taking a deep breath, Amy turned and gave the gallery a scan. Each of the 32 post-impressionism works on display tonight were vastly different in subject matter and emotion, yet cohesive as a whole. It displayed a phenomenal range and skill. She quite liked it all and had she not been trying to sell the pieces, not to mention she'd lose her job over it, she might have tried taking home a few for herself. She would have to be satisfied in having seen it first-hand, as she was with every show she'd worked thus far.
The caterers were setting up in one of the larger offices in the back with waitstaff planned to circle the crowd offering champagne and delicately decorated cakes to the patrons. “Ring me if you need.” Amelia turned again, this time toward her boss, the gallery curator, as he stepped out of his office and locked the door. Amy smiled. This was to be her first real show. She had taken the lead on all of the planning, though she hadn’t been left completely unchecked and thank Merlin for that or else there would have been advertising and signage all around the room and in the front window without the artist’s name, and Amelia was even being trusted to host and close up on her own. It was a big opportunity and she was excited and anxious for it. “If I need, I will. Goodnight.”
Soon enough the doors were open and the room full of guests. Amelia had invited a few of her friends who she thought might appreciate the evening and who she wanted to ensure knew that her big evening had gone off a success. Of course it was only her evening in the sense that it was her first mostly solo showing at the gallery, when really the evening belonged to – and was properly billed to – the artist, Quinn Blackwood.

Quinn had been busy all day. He wasn't even sure what he'd done but he knew he'd been busy. It was opening night for his exhibit. His art was going on sale to the public and he was expecting a rather grand turn out. He had a lot of friends interested in his art (well more like nosy about it) and he was in good hands with the gallery he'd gone through. He'd met with the owners and he'd spent time talking with the curator. The girl, Amelia, in charge of his pieces was rather fresh-faced and it was a first for the both of them. His relationship with Amelia had been a distant one, mostly communicating through owl messages, but she had done well in keeping him on track and arranging the proper care for his pieces. It was fair to say that his art would not have been showcased so well without her. It was certainly a big evening for the pair of them and Quinn was so grateful for her help that he'd even got her a gift to give at the end of the evening. Unfortunately he was not great at gifts, thankfully he had a girlfriend that was brilliant with that sort of thing and he'd relied heavily upon her opinion, purchasing Amelia exactly what Lyra had told him to get.
The night was early but going well. Red dots were beginning to go up on the descriptions indicating that the piece beside it was sold. It was a swell feeling. Quinn hadn't had any pre-show jitters, he'd been confident in his work and his friends abilities to chat the pieces up around perspective buyers. If all else failed then he had a back up plan. He'd had a chat with Dorcas when she'd pried into his life and she'd assured him that she'd happily spend Rod's money on Quinn's art and then create a 'Muggle's without art' charity in Rod's name. Quinn had thanked her, not sure if she was kidding or not, but later on when he'd chatted with Rod about the conversation, he'd assured Quinn that that was indeed something Dorcas would do. She was an odd breed but Rod seemed to actually like this wife and more importantly, Quinn thought she was alright, too.
Socialising with a few people here and there Quinn thanked them for coming, talked up the gallery and mentioned how incredible Amelia had been in helping him achieve his dream. There were quite a few people congratulating him, Yasna Patil making a large show of congratulating him before she swanned off elsewhere. Quinn's mind was only on the hors d'oeuvre that were circulating on silver platters. Man they looked good and he was famished. Heading for a waiter, Quinn was stopped by another person. His pursuit of food was delayed but it would not be over, not by a long shot.

The art world was one of rich twits. Cordelia was well versed in mixing and mingling with such people but she'd rather spend her time with her daughter or just about anywhere else. Everyone always had an air of niceness. It was pleasant, it wasn't kind it was just some kind of 'nice'. Fake and forced. It was soul-crushing really, or perhaps just for Cordy. She’d always had more trouble fitting in with this way of life than others. At least she had her best friend by her side most of the time, that made everything more bearable. It wasn’t an ideal marriage but if she was going to be betrothed to anyone in these circles, then she was glad it had been Tavvy. Together they had a beautiful little redheaded daughter and, although it was early days, they were pregnant with their second but not yet ready to share the news, not even with family. Hopefully their second was an heir for Tavvy but Cordy knew he’d be just as smitten if they had another daughter. She would do her best to try and give him a son if this one was another girl. She would have as many children as she could in order to give her best friend a son.
Taking Tav’s arm, she walked into the gallery with her husband. She let his arm go as her coat was taken and she linked back up with Tav as soon as she was done. There were many, many faces she recognised and she spotted Amelia, her sister-in-law, looking positively professional. Cordy wanted to head over and congratulate her right away but she figured they’d best give her a little breathing space before the bombarded her on a job well done! “Oh wow,” She said, letting her arm drop from Tavvy’s. She made a beeline for a piece that spoke to her. It was a stunning piece. The dark reds, purples, the night sky. The way the leaves on the trees were so dark they were barely visible. In fact if they hadn’t been moving, swaying in the breeze, the piece might not have caught her eye. She was in love. It reminded her of the deep Scottish sunsets that would come early in the day. That moment at twilight when light was fading and it felt as though the scenery was taking your breath away. She felt herself standing at the edge of the astronomy tower, looking out at the cloudy sky, waiting to see if he would meet her. He always did. Damn. She was starting to well up. Cordy took a deep breath, forcing the tears that threatened to fill her eyes back down and smiled at the piece. It was certainly one for their collection, or perhaps it would remind her too much of a time when she felt she could possibly love beyond the kind reserved only for friendship.

Well what a splendid night this was going to be! Yasna was positively glowing as she stepped into the gallery with her date for the evening. She was the first in door and handing her coat over to the door staff before she took her date's arm. Almost immediately she spotted Mr Blackwood, whose art was on display, and Miss Greengrass who had put forth a valiant effort for this evening. Of course she had pieces three and nine completely in the wrong places and the waiting staffs uniforms could have been a touch crisper, but on the whole, besides a few little decorative pieces missing here and there, the gallery looked marvellous! And perhaps piece four wasn't in its optimal position, but that could all be forgiven for such a brilliant looking job.
Showing her date around a few of the pieces didn't take long because Yasna was positively itching to congratulate Quinn on a job so stupendously done. His art work was truly reflective of the soul within. He captured not only himself in his artwork but the lives of those around him. There were a couple of pieces that Yasna had seen that spoke to her, but nothing (yet) that truly swept her off her feet. Not that it mattered. She would purchase one or two pieces before the night was out. She adored Quinn's work and congratulated him, adorning him with high praise before she left him to take in more admiration, returning to her date who was admiring an entirely different piece of art that one ought not hang from the walls in a crowd of people.

Ah yes. An art showing. A marvellous spectacle to behold. A wonderful evening to be had by all and ANt had absolutely no idea what in the hell to do. He stood in what felt like the centre of the room between two fake walls with paintings on them, and just crabbed every little snack that came his way. He had his left hand shoved into his trouser pocket and he was munching on some kind of fancy seafood thing. He bloody hoped he wasn't going to get food poisoning from these things but he couldn't help himself when there was free food on offer. Someone went by with a tray of champagne and Ant tried to call them over but his mouth was full. He chewed as quickly as he could, coughing a little at the end before he lightly jogged over to where the champagne was. "Thank you kindly, ma'am." He said with a little 'click' of his tongue and a nod of his head. Turning back around to face the direction from which he'd come, Ant made sure to stand himself upright, making himself attempt to look as though this was a place in which he belonged but clearly it was not. If Quinn wasn't such a bang up lad, Ant probably wouldn't have even come.

Proclaim eternal victory come on and change the course of history There was a time when Tavvy attended any and all events he was invited to without a care in the world. He would drink all night, laugh with friends, and counted himself lucky if he could remember just a few happy moments the next day. Now, at the tender age of twenty one, things were different. He picked and chose which things to attend, and spent a good portion of the early evening contemplating ending the night early so that he could go home and be with Daphne. Having a child had changed him in ways he hadn't thought possible. Where he once would have thrown back as many drinks as he could in the first hour of a night like this, he was too busy wondering what his daughter was doing and if she was missing her mum and dad. He and Cordy didn't really have date nights, not proper ones anyway. They hung out and went fun places together, but it was in the same fashion they always had done, platonic, fun, silly. They never found themselves at home with a baby that wouldn't sleep, wishing that she'd nod off so they could rip each other's clothes off. It just wasn't like that for them. They would rather be a threesome with Daphne and snuggle on the sofa reading books or playing games. Tavvy would never miss his little sisters big night, though, not even for Daphne, who was perfectly safe without her parents right now. Amelia was doing her family proud, and Tav couldn't wait to see her and give her a big hug. Cordy let go of his arm and wandered over to an ethereal looking painting across the room. Tavvy watched her for a moment. She was captivated by it, her whole face glowing with wonder, and he found himself smiling. Seeing his best friend happy was always a delight. He made a note of the painting and weaved through the room towards his sister. "Amy," he beamed pulling her in for a hug that was enthusiastic, but not enough to ruin her hair or outfit. "My little sister did all this," he whistled, eyes twinkling with pride. "I think Cordy has already found our first piece." And he was sure it wouldn't be the only painting either of them fell in love with tonight. _______________________ tag: Cordelia Grace Greengrass , Amelia Margaret Greengrass words: 426 notes: <3 outfit: A work of art. template by izzy[googlefont="Condiment"][googlefont="Cinzel Decorative"]

Post by Fae Constance Harlow on Jan 7, 2020 13:40:15 GMT
Usually Fae avoided her parents like Dragon Pox. She rarely spent time with them but when she did they always managed to drag her into something. Tonight it was an art show. She took a deep breath having agreed to meet her parents there, and walked inside. She often claimed not to like going to these things as she was a professional quidditch player and didn’t want people swarming her, but in reality she just didn’t want to bloody go. It didn’t matter to her parents what her excuse was, she could have been on the edge of death and they’d nag her into attending something, trying to set her up with someone. Well whatever. She’d do what they wanted for the evening and bugger off early, after a few snacky snacks and a taste of champers.
Catching up with her parents to prove that she had come, Fae then split off and began looking at the art pieces, pretending to know positively any single thing about them. She read the descriptions but felt practically nothing. Pretty colours on some canvas. Okay. Next one. Same again. Bleh. This kind of thing was awfully boring and Fae would rather have stayed home or gone out on the lash, but instead, here she was and here she would stay for another half an hour or so until she could leave without her parents tutting at her disapprovingly.

Kara never missed a night to mix and mingle. Her date for the evening wasn't a permanent fixture, just someone to have a good time with. She got ready at her own place and met him around the corner from the Morgan La Fey gallery where he walked her down the street, strutting their stuff before they entered, clearly taking the place by storm. Kara shrugged her brown minx shrug off from around her shoulders and her date caught it before throwing it towards the greeting staff. Kara started making her way towards the piece of art dead in front, strutting her legs, bypassing various people without so much as a nod. Her chocolate brown eyes surveyed the piece coolly before she moved to her right, finding another piece. Much like the first she didn't much care for it and so she moved on, her date catching up to her, standing just off to her right before she looked at him and rolled her eyes with regards to the art.

Jasper took a deep breath. He contemplated not going at all tonight but he couldn't not support Quinn on his big night. His cousin had been working on this night for quite some time and Jasper was proud to call Quinn "cousin". Family was such an important part of Jasper's life and he would be there for all his families big moments, for the better or the worse, the worse mainly being Zane. Jasper looked about the gallery. Everything certainly looked like a big hit. People were mingling and talking, plenty of bodies surrounded the art and Jasper intended to walk away with a piece for his mother. Since losing his father so recently, Jasper had had a hard time convincing his mother to do anything away from the home. His father had been unwell for quite some time and his passing was a blessing, really, but his mother had still taken it rather hard. They may not have been a perfect couple, they may have fought on and off over the years, but they loved one another, that much was clear to see.
Jasper hoped that buying his mother a piece of Quinn's artwork would cheer her up, help her feel involved in her nephew's life a little. Jasper found his cousin, slipping in and congratulating him on all his hard work. He apologised for his mother's absence but Quinn knew well enough of her situation without having to go into too much detail. Jasper had a brief chat with Quinn before he patted his cousin on the back, shook his hand and congratulated him once more. It was an amazing sight to behold and as Jasper took off to explore his cousin's work, he stole a flute of champagne from a passing tray and took a decent sized gulp, ready to find the perfect piece for his mother.

She burns like the sun and I can't look away Art shows were not exactly Tersha's thing. She liked pretty things, sure, but standing around for hours on end looking at pictures on a wall was kind of boring after the first half an hour. She would be doing a piece on the event for the Daily Prophet, so she didn't really have a choice but to attend, besides the fact that it was her cousin Amelia running the show. Supporting her cousin, supporting the rather delectable Quinn Blackwood, and getting a solid story for the paper were all currently taking a back seat to champagne and beautiful men. Tersha looked stunning, she always did, even just walking to the local shop for a pint of milk she looked a million Galleons, and tonight she had the girls out and a glow about her that spoke of the multiple tropical holidays she had treated herself to over the winter. She'd tagged along with Yasna, who also looked rather fabulous tonight, and every other night, but she had lost her in the crowds some time ago. It didn't matter, there were people to mingle with, women to compliment, art to pretend to admire, and men to fawn over. She made the rounds, pretending to be interested in art pieces but really just filling the air with shallow chit chat to everyone she stopped to talk to. She managed to congratulate Amelia, compliment Quinn on such wonderful work, jot down the name of a few of the art pieces whilst semi-talking to some woman whose name she just couldn't recall. She'd grabbed Jasper for a quick chinwag, and was just about to approach a man with the finest arse she had ever seen when Yas reappeared at her side. "Can I buy that and put it on my wall?" she asked, staring longingly at the man's derriere. _______________________ tag: Yasna Hara Patil and all! words: 340 notes: <3 outfit: The Queen of Everything template by izzy [googlefont="Homemade Apple"][googlefont="Cinzel Decorative"]

A girl should be two things classy and fabulous
Quinn was handsomely underdressed, but when you were the star of the party you could get away with dressing as demure or as outlandish as you wanted. Lyra might have had a bit of experience with that sort of thing, more so the latter. She wasn’t one for anything too out there, fashion-wise, but if it didn’t turn heads then honestly what was the point? As it wasn’t her turn in the spotlight – a ghastly thought but something she strove to remain conscious of – she opted for a slightly more reserved gown for the evening, a simple black, floor length number that Quinn seemed fond of. She had spent a good amount of their earlier conversation talking to her tits, so it was fair to say he approved of her dress.
Lyra was impossibly proud of Quinn and his art, and she knew it was important to him that she be there tonight – not that she had any plans to be elsewhere. She was happy to hang on his arm for a while and play the part of trophy witch for a bit, but the limelight was calling her and she quickly shuffled off to chat up some reporters who had come to cover the show for their respective papers. Her name always drew the reader’s attention, especially after the kidnapping incident, and she was happy to use her fame to bring a little extra attention to Quinn and his fabulous work. They were something of a power couple and she rather liked it. A waiter passed her by and she held up a finger to the reporter she’d been chatting with, then gave the waiter a little summoning wave. “The artist will be wanting some of those.” She pointed over to where Quinn had just been roped into a conversation by a person with their back to Lyra, obscuring their identity if only for a moment. “It is his big night, after all. Be a doll and make sure my handsome beau gets his fill.” She shooed the waiter away as she turned back to the reporter, who’s quill was busy jotting down notes. Lyra caught the words “mental connection” and “adoring couple”.

True commitment requires sacrifice
It was a rare sight to see; Kingston and his wife attending a non-work, non-familial affair together. King liked to play up his busy schedule, and he didn’t have many people he called ‘friend’ so it wasn’t as though he was expected to bring the missus along on a friendly outing to the winery or for a round of golf at the club. Kingston did those sorts of things on his own without his villainous ball and chain, whenever he felt the urge to be social, which wasn’t very often. King couldn’t remember now whose idea it had been to attend tonight’s event, and he supposed it didn’t matter. They were here now, his wife standing at his side as he admired a painting in silence for longer than was necessary. He wasn’t certain they would be buying anything tonight – it wasn’t his style. Staring at the blue hued piece in front of them, not speaking to Odie, was a sort of public penance for any transgression she might have recently committed. It was proving to be an exhausting evening of feigning respect for his wife and putting on airs around all these people who he couldn’t care less about, though King had to admit the champagne and hors d'oeuvres helped minutely.

Oh Tersha, she was quite the character. Yasna thought highly of Tersha and believed she was quite the ally when it came to keeping her name in the papers and highlighting all the good work that she was doing. Of course that was not why Yasna was friends with Tersha, never would Yasna befriend someone purely for their job or status and besides, Yasna had known Tersha much longer than Tersha had been at the Daily Prophet. Their families had always socialised in the same circles and being only five years older, Yasna had known Tersha practically the girls entire life. Oh, correction, woman. Tersha was far from a girl, she was much more mature than she had been as a teen. Never bothered Yasna, mind, she always thought of Tersha as full of spirit. She'd even been at her wedding, quite close to the front row, too. "I'm sure you could make an offer." Yasna chuckled airily, she was happy to play along, although objectifying an individual wasn't really her cup of tea, "Though I am certain such an offer would be interpreted improperly. Perhaps off him a glass of champagne." She suggested, figuring that Tersha asking to pay for someone's arse might make it look as though she were after some kind of gigolo, as it were.

It was rare for Odette and Kingston to socialise in public together. Odette was a known homebody, although the children were known to frequent their aunt Vienna's home at least once a fortnight. Élysée was still too young for an all day stay so she would usually just stay with Odie, but the children loved their time at Vienna's with Maxi and Tilly. She rarely had Vienna's children, though. Vienna was married with a loving and supportive partner, Odie had to deal with the most absent and obtuse individual on the planet. As if her life had not had enough suffering, she now had to remain married to a man she despised. Could her grandfather at least have given her someone with purer blood? Someone without a huge broom up their arse?
The couple walked about silently, neither one engaging the other in conversation. The only difference from home was their inability to have a spat and move to a different room. Well Odie was certain to try and give herself a little space from her husband, if only for a short while, "I see a friend. I shall be back when I please." She told him, walking off without a care, admiring the art work as she pleased, enjoying that some of the pieces reminded her of her childhood home where she had been happy, once upon a time.

All your life you've never seen A woman taken by the wind
Oh wow, okay so she was underdressed. Rhia had been to galleries before and thought she had picked out a fine outfit for looking at art that she probably shouldn’t have been buying, budget-wise, but clearly she’d not been to one like this. Rhiannon was spending more time looking at all the gowns on the women around her than that actual paintings. Her eyes following a green spotted number over to a gown that looked like red wine. Rhia grabbed a glass of champagne from a passing waited and sipped quickly as a white snowy dress passed by. She was definitely in the wrong place. Perhaps she ought to just sneak out – she wasn’t expecting to know anyone here tonight so it’s not as though she’d be missed. Rhia eyed the door but nearly sighed aloud in relief as she saw a woman in a leopard printed miniskirt and instantly felt much more at ease in her cocktail dress. Rhia was always second-guessing herself, especially in social settings, certain she wouldn’t fit in or be wanted. Bad thoughts put in her head by a bad man that hadn’t entirely resolved themselves yet. She sipped her drink and made a pointed effort to look more at the gallery’s artwork than its patrons.
