Everyone deserves a little oblivion now and then
The continued appreciation of his presence was a good sign. They were still new to this, being a couple. Lucian had had girlfriends in the past, but never a fiancée. He had come close once before. He would have asked for Kathleen’s hand in marriage had he not found out that she was already betrothed and that he was the kept man. Kathleen was the reason Lucian had never bothered with seriously searching for a fiancée of his own, and the reason his parents had arranged with the Notts to marry off their daughter Clementine to him. He enjoyed the time spent with Clem, but he had not chosen her. She was not his true love, nor did he ever think she would be, but she was a fine woman and she would make a good wife and mother. He would be a dutiful son and continue the family name into the next generation. Until the time came, however, any relations he and Clementine had were protected. They were careful and with good reason. There would be no bastards to carry on the Burke name.
His hand releasing the chocolates into hers, Lucian looked around the flat. It was rather modest for a witch of her standing, but it wouldn’t be required for long. Their wedding was nearing and then they would have a house of their own. She could keep her little apartment for the time being. “No, I’m fine, thank you. I was actually curious as to whether you had had tea yet, but it looks like you’re ready to settle in for the night, so I doubt you’d want to get dressed up for a posh meal.” His words were not judging, but warm and he smiled as if they had long been friends. He didn’t want to bore her with wedding talk, and if she wished to continue her busy day with more chatter about their upcoming nuptials it would be on her to start the conversation. He much preferred using these moments to get to know her, not what her mother liked in the way of bridesmaid dresses and centerpieces.

Everyone deserves a little oblivion now and then
The time had come and much to Lucian’s surprise he wasn’t nervous at all about standing up in front of practically everyone they knew and having to recite heartfelt words of adoration to a woman he didn’t know all that well. What he did know of Clementine was that she was seemingly kind, proper without being stuffy about it, and had a decent sense of humor. He could work with that much, and Lucian hoped that whatever he didn’t know about Clementine was not horrid enough to make him curse his parents for arranging this marriage in the first place. By all accounts it was a smart match. They were both of pure families with enough wealth between them to easily support them without worry and to ensure whatever children they produced would have a good life. Their political and social beliefs were in line with each other’s, as well, which was important considering Clem worked for the Minister and Lucian ran an illegal elixir ring out of the back of his apothecary shop, not that Clem knew yet about his side business. He was saving that bit of information until after she was officially a Burke. He had kept things behind locked doors for a reason and an engagement alone wasn’t enough to make him throw common sense out the window. She would come to know the truth in time, and Lucian half suspected she might have had an inkling already. She was quite clever, too, that was also something he knew of his future wife. He appreciated an intelligent woman.
Long ago Lucian had decided to make the best out of this situation by going into the relationship with a positive outlook and he truly did like what he had come to know of his bride. That made it all the easier to stand at the front of the church, his best mates and younger brother flanking him, all awaiting their arranged partners for the evening. In Lucian’s case, this would be his partner for all eternity. When the music changed, and the procession started, Lucian’s eyes were fixed on the back of the large, tastefully decorated room. Flower girls, the ring bearer, and a procession of bridesmaids. When Clem’s little sister Evie had reached the front, the music changed again, and everyone turned to watch a vision in white approach. “You look…” Lucian was at a loss for words when his bride was finally passed from her father’s hand to his,“absolutely stunning,” he finished, his words soft enough to be heard only by her and the officiant who stood between them.
The ceremony wasn’t a long one, but neither was it really very short. The officiant spoke poetic words of love and loyalty. The couple exchanged vows. Finally, Lucian slide a white gold band covered in diamonds over Clem’s ring finger, a thicker matching one already having been placed on his hand. Having finished signing their names to the marriage certificate, the couple was announced as man and wife. There was a buzz of excitement from their guests that slowly grew to applause as Lucian pulled Clementine in for a respectful but sincere kiss, holding her face in the palm of his right hand and her waist in his left.
The reception was spectacular, and Lucian took every opportunity to compliment Clem in her decisions. Occasionally she would throw him a compliment as well, on one of the few things his input was requested on in planning this magnificent soiree. The wedding party was required for pictures but Loosh and Clem were kept longer than the others, making sure every possible angle of their attire and expressions were captured on film. Clementine’s dress was perfection and to his credit, Lucian didn’t look half bad himself. He had tidied up his beard, it was getting rather wild and his mum had been complaining in that loving way that she did. She had wanted him to shave it completely, and if Clem had wanted that as well, he would have but Lucian thought he looked too childlike and innocent without a bit of facial hair. His jet black tuxedo was striking against the white waistcoat, a small boutonniere consisting of a rose and a peony to match Clementine’s bouquet.
The couple had prepared for weeks for their first dance, not that much training was required. They were both from well-off enough families that dancing lessons was simply a part of growing up, but they practiced their first dance nevertheless and it paid off splendidly as they glided across the dancefloor to the live band that played every romantically inclined song that had ever been invented. Lucian danced with Clem’s mother and his own, each of his sisters got him for a song, as did Clementine’s sister. He was happy when dinner was served and his feet could take a break but of course then there were toasts to the happy couple and a speech of gratitude from himself and Clem to their guests. Champagne. Cake. More dancing. There was so much of it and yet it all seemed to move quickly. Before he knew it, Lucian had swept his bride off her feet as they crossed over the threshold into their luxury hotel suite, ready to start their nearly month-long honeymoon.

Everyone deserves a little oblivion now and then
He wasn’t left waiting in the hallway very long. Soon after knocking he heard the gentle fall of footsteps on the other side of the door, then a pause. The light of the peephole turned dark as Clementine looked out into the hall from the safety of her flat. There was another moment of silent, then the sound of the locks being undone and the door opening. Clem smiled at him as she greeted him, and it made Lucian happy to know that his showing up on her doorstep unannounced was not met with annoyance. At least not outwardly. “I hope I’m not intruding,” Lucian replied as he crossed the threshold into her apartment, leaning forward to kiss her on the cheek as he did so.
“I thought you might be up for a bit of company that did not involve our parents and a tedious guest list.” Judging by her outfit, Clem was preparing for a quiet evening in, and in all honesty the sight of her in lounge trousers was really rather pleasing. Not in a perverted manner, mind you, though it wasn’t necessarily a turn-off, but more that it bode well for their home life after they were married and settled into a groove. His sisters, as much as he loved them, were rather high maintenance and even in her sleep Lilith insisted on being the most fashionable person in the building, wearing nightgowns as if she were about to walk the runway in Milan. If that had been Clementine’s personality, then he would be well used to it and he was sure they would settle into a comfortability with each other soon enough, but that she was a little more down to earth in her nightly attire was a sign that perhaps she was a little more down to earth in other ways as well. Or perhaps he was overthinking things.
He waited until she had shut the door properly and closed out any nosey neighbors, should she have a problem with that sort. He really didn’t know. He and Clementine had known each other for a while, their parents ran in the same circles which of course meant they too ran in similar social circles, but before the engagement there hadn’t been too much to their relationship. Everything between them was rather superficial, but of course superficial things were of some importance. Clementine was beautiful, she was well educated and a driven woman, considering her position in the Ministry. Her lineage was superb and family’s financial standing was respectable. On paper she was the perfect bride for him, but a marriage did not consist of just the superficial things and Lucian prayed that his duty as a son and the heir to his family’s name and fortune would not cost him his happiness.
Extending the box of chocolates he had brought with him, he offered them to her. “I figured you would be sick of flowers at this point.” And what woman didn’t love chocolate?

Everyone deserves a little oblivion now and then
The Ambrosia Lounge was a favorite of the Burke women. Sophisticated and elegant, and something of a hot spot for the elite. It was not uncommon to spy a pseudo celebrity within the tastefully decorated walls of Ambrosia and the clientele were high powered enough that the establishment knew to keep the riff raff out if they wanted to maintain their status as the “it” place in Whimsic Alley. It was the perfect place to catch up with his darling sister for a while. “I should have known,” he teased gently, his feet ushering them down the way.
Their journey was not a long one and soon enough they were out of the chill and standing in the entry of the lavish cocktail lounge. The hostess greeted them by name and asked if they would like a more private table off to the side or something closer to the bar. It made no difference to Lucian and he looked to Lilith for her input. “Depends on the lighting, doesn’t it?” he asked, harkening back to her earlier comments, the only hint that he was making a joke was the slight raise of his eyebrows. The hostess didn’t catch on to their inside joke and began to explain the differences in the tables and the lights, attempting to please the siblings. She was good at her job, but not quite bright enough to catch on that it was a game.
Once they were seated and Lucian had ordered for them both, the blond looked to his sister with a small sigh of relief. “What wonderful adventures have you been up to lately, Lil? Have you incited a coo and overtaken the magazine for yourself, yet?” She certainly could if she wanted to. Pur magazine would fall apart without Lilith and Livia, holding it up on their own merits. He tried to tread lightly when it came to more personal subject matter, like her upcoming wedding. He knew his own fiancée was feeling the pressures of wedding planning and he could only imagine how tightly wound his dear sister would be in ensuring every last detail was utterly perfect and up to her incredibly high standards. He would let her broach the subject if she wanted to speak of it, and they were both well-rounded people with plenty to discuss besides their arranged marriages and quickly approaching weddings. They had work, hobbies, and the occasional family gossip to engage in. It had been a short while since he’d spoken with his youngest siblings, and if Lilith had any news of interest, Lucian would most definitely want to know.

Everyone deserves a little oblivion now and then
Lucian had the great fortune of being a male who was essentially unneeded in most of this wedding planning process. There wasn’t much he needed to do, certainly not any substantial amount that would compare to what Clementine was dealing with. When he was included, or his opinion was requested, Lucian was not the sort of man who would whine and moan about having to decide between the cream and the eggshell tablecloths, or whether they should have junior ushers or simply stick with traditional adult ushers. He ran a business for Merlin’s sake, so he could easily manage to make a few decisions here and there if it made things easier on his bride-to-be. He was quite used to making decisions in the day to day of things and he had heard enough from the women of his family that planning a wedding was rather stressful on the bride. Although Lucian did not know Clementine as well as he would have hoped considering their impending nuptials, he knew that he didn’t want to start their relationship off on rocky ground. Lucian was happy to help in any way that made the women in his life happy.
It just so happened that today he was not needed, but he had heard from his mother that it was a big day in the planning process. They were to finalize the flowers, and exactly how that was such a big deal was a complete mystery to Lucian, but he respected it nonetheless. Clem had been working double time, planning the wedding while also maintaining her full-time position at the Ministry of Magic as the Junior Undersecretary to the Minister herself. If his mum expected it to be a long day, then he would respond accordingly, and hopefully his surprise appearance at Clementine’s flat would be viewed favorably.
He had no set plans for the evening, well, nothing that couldn’t be easily changed should Clem decide she wanted an evening alone after such a busy day. There was a reservation at a restaurant for them, and a table reserved at one of the nicer pubs in the city. If she did desire to spend time with him, but did not want to go out, he was also prepared to cook her a nice dinner at home. His knuckles rapped on the door as he stood in the hall just outside her apartment, a box of chocolates in hand. He was dressed for the evening in something that would work for whichever option Clementine chose; a nice button-down shirt and a pair of slacks. It was neither posh nor slovenly. It was utterly Lucian.

Everyone deserves a little oblivion now and then
Lilith was playing coy as she neither rebuked nor confirmed Lucian’s insinuation that she was up to something. She played the assertion off as though she was a simple witch bred for nothing more than looking attractive on a man’s arm and continuing the bloodline. Lucian knew this ploy to be complete and utter dragon dung. “And nothing more than that, of course,” he retorted with a sly grin. Lilith was much more intelligent than she let on, not only in the academic sense but also in cleverness and cunning. She was an alumna of Ravenclaw House, but she could equally have been placed into Slytherin for her ambitious nature and resourcefulness. All of their siblings were clever in their own way, but it was Lilith who set herself apart from the rest of the Burkes and were it not for the fact that she was a woman there was no doubt in Lucian’s mind that she couldn’t rule the world one day, should she want to.
Lucian was not generally of the mindset that witches were of the weaker sex. He knew far too many resilient, powerful women to be foolish enough to think in such an archaic manner. His own fiancée was rising the ranks inside the Ministry and perhaps one day she would even run for office of the Minister for Magic itself, if she could manage to balance her duties as wife and mother with that of running the country. Lucian would proudly stand by his soon-to-be wife’s side should she decide to continue climbing the political ladder, just as he would if that were Lilith’s aim or any of his sisters’ ambitions, but he was not blind to the way society on the whole viewed women. There were those so determined to live inside their ignorance that they shouted about how sexism had been defeated because the Minister was a witch, and yet only moments would pass before they’d make a joke at their girlfriend’s expense. There were some men who made Lucian, and a good handful of other decent blokes, embarrassed for their gender.
She made a joke about the lighting in an utterly serious tone and Lucian’s response matched hers in both sound and intent. “I’ll see what I can do, sister.” He patted her hand gently as she looped her arm through his, signaling that she was ready to set off. He turned to his employee who stood behind the counter, taking a customer’s order for a specialty potion. “Marcus, I’m leaving early. Look after the shop and be sure to give Mrs Lovetts our loyal customer discount,” he said charmingly, winking at Mrs Lovetts who’s sagging cheeks flushed as she turned away from Marcus and the order form he was completing for her to give a little wave to Lucian.
Lucian pulled open the door for Lilith and stepped out into the sunlight as the door gently thudded closed behind them. “Where are we headed this afternoon?” he asked as he looked up and down the busy street.

Everyone deserves a little oblivion now and then
It appeared the person he had asked for aid was also in need of assistance, and he chuckled lightly as she looked around with a perplexed expression on her face. “This place is rather confusing, isn’t it? It’s good to know I am not the only one getting turned around in here. Have any idea what floor we’re on?” If they were on Level one, which Lucian suspected they were not as their current surroundings did not look familiar to him at all, then he could simply track down his fiancée and have her escort him to the atrium, and give guidance to this witch who too was clearly a bit lost.
Clementine, or ‘Clem’ as he called her, was the Junior Undersecretary to the Minister for Magic and had worked in the Ministry offices long enough to know her way through the maze of a building even in the dark, not that he expected her to be running around with the lights out. Lucian had come by on a number of occasions to see his fiancée at work, but he rarely made it a habit of wandering the many levels and corridors of the expansive government building. If he wasn’t here on business for his apothecary, and the occasional supportive efforts for the family run Borgin and Burkes shop, Lucian was usually just popping in quickly to bring his fiancée a treat or take her out for lunch, but sometimes his business with the Junior Undersecretary was more official such as getting her approval or veto on some aspect of their upcoming wedding.
He and Clementine Nott had been engaged for nearly a year now and their wedding was fast approaching. Lucian tried to keep out of the planning as much as he could without forcing all of the stress onto his bride-to-be and their parents. Whether they married on a cliff or a beach or a chapel made no difference to Lucian, the end result was all the same; an arranged marriage. There was plenty of time in their future to get to know one another and to hopefully grow fond of each other, but it wasn’t as if he knew nothing about his soon-to-be wife. They had attended school together, though she was younger than him, and their families had known each other for some time. Lucian wasn’t sure how much Clem knew of the woman he had once hoped to marry and out of respect to Clementine he never broached the subject with her or anyone else. There was nothing to be done for it and whenever possible he preferred to leave the past behind him and look to the future.
In some ways he was excited for April to arrive and in other ways it was coming way too swiftly but whether he was ready for it or not, come the seventh of April Lucian was going to be married and Clementine would officially become a Burke. Of course, the familial pressures wouldn’t end there. They would be expected to produce an heir, a few of them Gods willing. It was a known expectation but not one that he and Clem had had many conversations on yet. One thing at a time.

Everyone deserves a little oblivion now and then
Elixirium was doing well, both as an actual apothecary and potions shop, and as the storefront to his real business, dealing in illegal elixirs. Lucian knew that to keep the more lucrative side of his business intact, he had to ensure the apothecary shop remained on the up and up. That required paperwork and registering with the Ministry of Magic’s Department for Business, Industrial, and Magical Strategy. It was an endless amount of forms, many of which were required to be filled out in triplicate and for some reason were ineffective with a duplication charm, which Lucian simply could not fathom. The Ministry had their reasons, he was sure, but it seemed to like to create hoops with which British citizens were forced to jump through and then, if that weren’t enough, they set the damned things on fire.
With his specialty elixirs business having a higher demand as of late, Lucian needed to bring on some more employees to manage the Elixirium. This, of course, pushed his staff numbers into a different bracket which required, you guessed it, more paperwork. Dressed in a fine suit, his blonde hair combed back and styled respectably, Lucian made his way through the atrium on the main floor, shoes clicking on the tiled floor as he walked. The paperwork, which had been checked over numerous times, was tucked under his arm in a manila folder. After speaking with several people who all directed him to various other people, Lucian had finally filed all of the necessary forms to expand his business by up to ten more employees, though that number was far more than he needed at the moment.
Exiting the lift, Lucian realized he had taken a wrong turn on his attempt to leave the Ministry. He was not on the floor he had expected to be on, and in fact he wasn’t quite sure which floor he was standing on at all. Approaching the nearest person, Lucian politely cleared his throat before speaking. “Pardon me. I seem to have gotten turned about. Could you direct me to the atrium?”

Everyone deserves a little oblivion now and then
Lilith was always rather proper, a trait he admired in her as she was the example to which their sisters would look up to and her manners and poise would certainly ensure they had the best role model around. Lucian hugged his sister lightly, ensuring he didn’t wrinkle her fine dress – though he wasn’t sure there was enough give in her tight dress to allow for any wrinkles to be visible – and returned his kiss on the cheek. Lucian was the oldest and the heir to the Burke fortune and power, but Lilith was the real treasure of their family. Her work was respectable and completely on the up and up, unlike his own, and she was engaged to be married into the wealthiest wizarding family in all of Britain. Lucian hadn’t yet made up his mind about whether or not he liked Rabastan Lestrange for his sister and he would always keep an eye on her, but she seemed happy enough outwardly, despite not having much of a say in the marriage. Lilith’s engagement, like his own, had been an arrangement orchestrated by their parents. It was a common practice of the social elite, but their father and mother were sensible enough not to throw their children to the wolves for sake of a future fortune or respected name. And unlike the older Burke children, there was a very good chance that Lyra, Livia, and Lysander would be free to choose their own partners, so long as they did not drag their feet about it when the time came.
Never would Lucian suspect an ulterior motive to one of his sister’s visits. If she wanted something, she was perfectly capable of coming straight out with it and she wasn’t the sort to beat around the bush when she had a point to be getting on with. Lucian liked to think he had at least an ounce of the charm his sister had in her demanding yet still endearing manner but as a male he wasn’t very much worried about whether people he gave orders to liked him. Women, he had noticed, had the unfortunate curse of being labeled a ‘bitch’ when they were direct, men were called ‘leaders’. The double-standard worked well for him professionally, but he had rather wished such a term would never be used against any of his sisters and he strived to never speak of any woman in such a way.
“You’ve excellent timing, then. I’ve just finished doing inventory and I am sure Marcus will have nothing to say about me skipping out a bit early for a date with my lovely sister.” Lilith turned her attention to the boomslang skin displayed on the shelf. Of course she would be drawn to such a rare ingredient, the price for a small piece of skin was more than triple the cost of a whole skin from a locally sourced snake, and between what Lucian paid for the stuff himself, plus the cost of having it shipped from Africa, it made this particular item one of the more costly in the shop, aside from complete elixirs themselves. “You have expensive tastes, sister. I do hope you’re not planning something nefarious without my support.” Boomslang skin’s most popular use was in Polyjuice potion, though there were other uses that were not as well-known.

Everyone deserves a little oblivion now and then
“Add Angel’s Trumpet to the order. Two pounds.” Lucian was shouting from the store room in the back of the shop up to Marcus who was tending the front counter and minding the store floor. “Make that three.” The morning had been spent doing inventory on the legal potions and elixirs offered at Elixirium, along with their stock of ingredients which Lucian used to brew most of the potions himself. It was easy enough, Luc had excelled in the subject while in school and he found it a rather relaxing pastime as an adult. Everyone deserves a little oblivion in their life, and whether they find it in hobbies or elixirs, Lucian was all for it.
Moving a jar to the left and another to the right, a worn label was now visible from the back of the shelf. Moonstone. They were running low and with Valentine’s Day nearing there was sure to be an influx of love potion orders, many of which required a dash of powdered moonstone for that added longing feeling on the part of the potion’s intended recipient. Lucian didn’t ask why people purchased the items that they did, nor did he want to know. Their business was their own and he wouldn’t have his business – the more profitable portion of it, at least – if he made it a habit to ask too many questions. Primarily, if someone requested a “special order” item, he asked ‘how much of it do you want?’ and ‘when do you want it?’ Anything beyond that was strictly off the table in his shop. He ran a tight ship, hiring only the finest potions makers and insisting they follow his rules to the T. If anyone under his employ asked wrong questions they would quickly find themselves without a job. Lucian’s clientele was of the utmost importance to him and his business.
He heard the bell above the door jingle and knew that there were customers in the shop now. Deciding to finish the order list himself, Lucian drew his wand and conjured a stenoquill and a roll of parchment. “Moonstone, one pound.” As Lucian spoke the stenoquill wrote everything he said, word for word. He moved a few more jars around and added a few more items to the list. “Mistletoe berry, a dozen sprigs. Flitterby wings, four pounds. Doxy venom, one gill.” The bell jingled again over the door, signaling that his patrons had probably made their purchase and left, but the list was complete and there was no need to shout to Marcus. He banished the stenoquill and pocketed his wand, then carried his list of items up to the front of the shop where Marcus could add them to the order form for their supplier.
Lucian was surprised to see that not only had their original customers not gone, but a familiar coif of blonde hair was browsing the shelves. “Well isn’t this a surprise,” Lucian said warmly as he stepped from the backroom and smiled at his sister. Luc handed the list he had been working on to Marcus as he moved past the counter and onto the store floor. “Add these to the order and get it sent out before you clock out today.” A stern look was not needed but given anyway as he instructed Marcus on the order before carrying on towards his sister. “Lilith,” he greeted her more formally now that he was stood in front of her instead of across the room. “Looking for something fun to do over the weekend?” If it was potions she was after, Lucian always gave a hefty family discount.

The Future Mrs Burke Lucian's Fiancee Miss Nott Name: ________ NottAge: 20-24About the witch: This nameless, faceless hottie is Lucian's fiancee. All of the details are to be determined by you. She can be a trophy wife and socialite or have a job, have been of any Hogwarts house, any face claim you like (Gal Gadot is just nice to look at), and she can have any name desired. She must be a pureblood and from a wealth family of the Sacred 28 as long as they're not closely related, the Burkes don't go for that sort of thing! I recommend the Notts, related to the Malfoys - far enough removed without tainting the bloodline.About the relationship: This is an arranged marriage, and any feelings between the couple are completely negotiable. Lucian does know, however, that his fiancee is not his true love (details in the application) but feelings could have developed between the pair, could be developed in the future, or not at all. I've also been vague about the timeline of their relationship, so this can all be plotted jointly as well.About Lucian: Lucian is generally a good guy. He cares about his family, is loyal to his friends, and will be faithful to his fiancee. He also won't feel the need to keep his wife on a short leash. He is a high-class drug dealer with a successful apothecary shop as his front - he's not against breaking the law if its for the betterment of society and believes his potions can help people to relax.

Lucian Angelus Marcel Burke |
oak, dragon heartstring, 10 1/3 inches |
PERSONALITY Boggart: Faced with boggart, Lucian would see his siblings, on fire and crying out for help. He loves his family very much and as the oldest of the Burke children, Lucian feels responsible for them in a way, despite most of them being grown. Mirror of Erised: If Lucian were to look upon the Mirror of Erised he would see himself standing beside his true love, Kathleen. Patronus: Mink - Lucian's happiest memory is also tarnished by the reality of the situation, in that he cannot be with the woman he loves. If not for that sad fact, Lucian would be able to produce a patronus by conjuring the memory of Kathleen telling him she loved him for the first time.
Lucian is a very casual, laid back fellow. He enjoys the leisurely life his family's wealth has afforded him and he intends on keeping things that way. He doesn't like to be pressed for time and a tight schedule simply will not do. As such, he has employees to work the apothecary shop that he owns and they take orders for the more exclusive items so that he can brew them in his own time. Despite his leisurely pace, Lucian is a savvy businessman, taking after his father in that regard. He hires the proper people to take care of the day to day dealings and isn't afraid to lay down the law, if needed.
Lucian loves his family dearly and will do anything within his power to protect them. This can come of as a little hyper-vigilant, especially with his sisters, but it is only out of love. He can recognize the fine line between protective and possessive and always aims to stay on the proper side of things. He is very proud of the direction his siblings' lives have taken and he supports them in all of their endeavors.
His friendships fall somewhere in between his intense loyalty (as with his family) and his relaxed attitude towards life. Lucian is a good friend, loyal though not to a fault. He sees people for who they are and if he finds them worthy then he accepts them, faults and all. He doesn't waste his time with brown-nosers or sneaks. Trying to befriend him just to get in with his family, or his family's money, is not going to end well and while Lucian doesn't like to get his hands dirty, he's not above hiring the proper sort to have things taken care of.HISTORY Mother: Elisabetta Grace Marie Burke (Borgin), 52, Slytherin, pureblood Father: Robert Ivan Burke, 56, Slytherin, pure blood Siblings: Lilith, 23, Ravenclaw, pureblood Lyra, 21, Ravenclaw, pureblood Livia, 20, Slytherin, pure blood Lysander, 18, Slytherin pure blood Partners: _________, 20-24, fiancee Others: Christian Burke, paternal uncle Catarina Burke (Avery), paternal grandma Edgar Burke, paternal grandpa Hetta Borgin (Rosier), maternal grandma Frederich Borgin, maternal grandpa Urbosa Borgin, maternal aunt Mipha Borgin, maternal aunt Lana Borgin, maternal aunt Impa Borgin, maternal aunt Epona Borgin, maternal aunt Septimus Borgin, maternal uncle
The Burkes are a big family but loving as hell. Elisabetta and Robert have set the perfect example for their children of what a loving and caring relationship should look like and how a pureblood family should behave. How Betty and Bob got together is old news by now, and as Livia likes to point out, they used to screw like rabbits which is how they ended up with so many children, which you've all heard before. It should be fairly obvious based on their social standing but what the Burkes wanted most for their newly begun family was a son; an heir. They were successful their first go round. Having the back up heir proved a bit more difficult, but then, it's hard to follow such an amazing first act.
Lucian had a lovely childhood. He was spoiled just the right amount, loved just the right amount, reprimanded just the right amount, and given just the right amount of freedom to make his own way in the world. Growing up, he took on the role of big brother with ease and perhaps at times a little too much enthusiasm. He was suspicious of his sisters' boyfriends and interrogated them in the school corridors about their intentions. Lucian was smart enough to recognize that there were people in this world who would use whatever means possible to get what they wanted, and he would have his sisters' hearts broken over some idiot trying to make a quick galleon on the Burke name.
Planning a career in business like his father after he graduated from school, Lucian experimented with elixirs like most young boys who had too much money and nowhere to spend it. He found most dealers didn't quite measure up and, being good with potions, Lucian decided to try his hand at it. Over the years he perfected his elixirs and made a pretty knut selling them to his classmates. He continued on after graduation, claiming it to be a side project but making too much money with it to ignore that it was what he was actually good at. He has his own shop now, of which he sells legal potions, but anyone in the know knows that the upscale apothecary shop is really just a front, and for the right price Lucian can create for you a wonderful, temporary oblivion.
After graduating, Lucian met a witch; Kathleen DuBois. Originally from France, she was staying with her aunt in Ireland where she quite literally bumped into Lucian on the street. Lucian was 20, Kathleen 18. They fell in love instantly and as often as they could, would travel between England and France to be with one another. Lucian offered to move to France permentantly to be with her but whenever talk of their future arose Kathleen would become quiet and distant. A long distance relationship was not ideal but Lucian was willing to make it work because, as he told her several times over, he loved her with every fiber of his being. That being true made it all the more difficult when he discovered the reason why Kathleen would never agree to leaving France for him, or allowing him to move for her; she was engaged to another wizard. An arranged marriage, orchestrated by her parents with some wealthy bloke in Ireland; Ronan Foley. It had been this fiancee that she was visiting when she met Lucian, not her aunt as she had claimed. Lucian begged her to call off the wedding but her father refused to hear of such things and Kathleen was reluctant to disobey.
Lucian stood in the back of the chapel on Kathleen's wedding day, watching the woman he loved marry another man. He contemplated stealing her away, interrupting the ceremony and claiming Kathleen for his own but he couldn't sully her name like that. He cared too much for her and so he stood silently as Kathleen exchanged vows with her groom, promising to love, honor, and obey him. That should have been the last time he saw her, but sadly it was not. The Foleys were a well-to-do pureblooded family who often did business with some of the companies the Burkes had investments in and as such they attended several of the same social events. Multiple times a year Lucian would be forced to shake Ronan Foley's hand, engage in small talk about the weather or Ronan and Kathleen's twin boys, and pretend that he had never been "the other man" to Ronan's wife.
After a few years of freedom from school and not long after Kathleen's wedding, Robert and Elisabetta told Lucian that it was time for him to start settling down. He needed to continue the family name. A marriage was arranged and while Lucian has not taken the total leap into marriage just yet, it is now clearly looming just around the corner. OOC |
