Drommie didn't notice the auror's extended hand and yet somehow she shook it. She closed the door behind him and headed for the stairs. She stopped at the bottom, looking at the bottom step. Her stomach was in knots and she felt physically sick. How was she supposed to do this? Doubt and fear washed over her. She wanted to just hold Nymphadora and cry but she had to tell her daughter the news first. Just the thought of it, of being alone now, of having to care for her daughter alone brought tears to her eyes. Drommie felt the tears start streaking down over her cheeks. They kept coming and coming until she sat heavily down on the second stair and sobbed heavily into her hands.

Drommie nodded as she listened to the auror. She wasn't absorbing the information well at all. She heard something about how he was heading the case and something about enemies. Perhaps once all this shock had worn away, the auror would request her presence. She could probably come up with a decent sized list of "enemies" including the current government. Drommie stood silently from her seat, supposing she needed to show the auror out but she couldn't find the words to prompt him to leave, her mind was wrapped around her darling Teddy and breaking the news to their only child.

It was the wrong question or at least she felt as though it was wrong, somehow. Drommie's hands were quivering in her lap and she tried to keep her face strong but her chin was trembling. Drommie wanted to know exactly what had happened to her Teddy, but the words wouldn't come out of her mouth, instead she accepted a tissue and business cards from the auror and tried to think of how she was ever going to break this to Nymphadora. How could you tell a child that their father had been murdered? How was there any possible way that Drommie could walk up those stairs to her daughter's room and deliver the most heartbreaking, soul-crushing news imaginable? "Thank you." Drommie used the tissue she had taken and wiped under her eyes, wondering just who she could reach out to. None of her friendships these days were all that significant and she had no family she could lean on. Ted's parents were gone and now, so was Ted.

There it was. Sharp like a knife and thrust in deep. There had been no beating about the bush, no condolences or attempt at pity or sorrow, just what had happened. An "altercation". That was what had ended her husband's life. Andromeda's heart sunk lower, she hadn't thought it was possible but hearing the actual news was far worse than what she had anticipated, yet there was more. Andromeda attempted to stop her lower lip from quivering but it wasn't possible. She felt a single tear start to roll down her right cheek and she wiped it away with her hand quickly. She wanted to say something, she wanted to ask questions but she knew if she opened her mouth that she couldn't guarantee what would come out. The auror said he had no suspects but she felt he was just covering up. He worked for the ministry, the ministry that thought of her husband's life as worthless. Her family, the ministry, death eaters. The world was out to get people like her husband and Andromeda wanted to do something, she wanted to hurt someone, but what could she do? Right now there was nothing she could do or say. He husband was dead. "Where is he?" She croaked. She wanted to see Ted, although she knew it probably wasn't wise, she couldn't be sure what her husband looked like but he probably didn't look like himself.

There was no more avoiding it, as much as she tried, Andromeda knew that it was now time to face the music, and she knew that it would be a sombre lament of sorrow. Silently Drommie crossed to the sofa and took a seat, resting her hands in her lap, clasped together as she dared not look at the man that was about to break her heart.

Andromeda shut the front door behind the auror and made her way through to the lounge, her head a swirling mess. Humbert took a seat in the chair and Drommie shut the door behind them. If Dora got up and came downstairs then Drommie didn't want her daughter hearing anything that the auror was about to say. She felt the news, no matter what it was, would always be better coming from her, although part of her felt she shouldn't tell Dora anything, instead waiting until she was better to tell her the news. The news. Drommie was getting ahead of herself. The auror could have bene there to tell her absolutely anything. Perhaps her parents had died and Cissa was unreachable, that was possible, although in the pit of her stomach, Drommie knew what was coming and for some reason, she felt as though she had to stall, perhaps if she stalled the news then things would somehow change. "Would you care for a drink?" She asked, hoping he'd say 'yes', but knowing he was here for one purpose, and one purpose only.

Andromeda knew that this wasn't going to be good, but now she knew that the news this Auror was burdened with, was going to be devastating. Drommie took a deep breath and stepped back, bringing her wand to her side and tucking it behind her just a little. She was glad that Nymphadora was upstairs napping, but she was unwell, how would she take the news? Drommie knew she was jumping ahead right now, but she'd been expecting this every time the doorbell chimed. She'd prepared herself, even though she was very aware that she would have no idea how she'd react come the actual moment of truth.

Andromeda wasn't sure what to think when the man announced himself as from the Ministry. He was an auror at that. This had to be about Ted. Had he been caught? Or perhaps something to do with her family. She had been interviewed when Bella had died, but only to cover all sides it felt. As someone that was disowned, even when things seemed painfully obvious that she wasn't involved, the Ministry still wanted to open up old wounds and prod around a little, after all, her life meant that she supposedly had motive to harm her family, but she wasn't like that, or at least she didn't think she was. Well, she could have swung for Cissa in that restaurant, but on the whole, she didn't want to harm her family. "That's me," She told him, her wand at the ready, just in case he wasn't who he said he was or just incase he wasn't as honourable as his position would lead her to believe, "Can I ask what this is pertaining to?" Because before she invited him in, she wanted to make sure this couldn't just be a quick doorstop conversation.

Andromeda practically collapsed into her armchair. Nymphadora was unwell and upstairs in bed, tucked away, recovering from a night of zero sleep. Andromeda wasn't quite so lucky, she had to wait for the washing to complete itself and then hang it up to dry. She probably had a quick five minutes to just relax but once the washing was all hung up she was definitely climbing into her bed next to Nymphadora and falling to sleep in quite probably record time.
It felt as though it had been fifteen seconds since her cheeks had touched the soft cushions of the armchair when the buzzer went. She groaned and let out a sigh. She stood to her feet more slowly than she usually would have, and made her way out of the living room and headed for the front door. She caught a glimpse of herself in the round hallway mirror. Her messy bun was messier than usual, her hair was dissolved and she had a lot of little fly away hairs just standing out. Her puffy looking eyes showed how tired she was. For the rest of the walk down the hall to the front door Andromeda tried flattening her hair back. She peeked through the peephole to see a smartly dressed man in a suit. She stepped away from the door and placed her left hand on the door handle, her right on her wand in her pocket. She pulled the door open timidly, ready to slam it shut at the slightest sign of trouble, all she could think was 'not today' and how to get upstairs to Nymphadora to get them away, a plan she'd gone over several times, thankfully she wasn't as dim as her family thought and there were protections on her home to protect against incoming spells, but it couldn't protect against all spells. "Who are you?" She asked, waiting for a response, ready to run.

Free entertainment. The best kind, as far as Andromeda was concerned, mostly because she was broke practically all the time. Actually entirely for that reason, and broke all of the time. Since Ted had gone she was surviving on one wage and she had no way of having a little extra cash from week to week. She was lucky she was able to get enough work as a cleaner what with having Nymphadora tagging along with her every day, it didn't seem fair for the kid to miss out on everything. They could enjoy the day at the bookshop, grab Nymphadora an ice cream and then head to a park. Life was a strain but Andromeda pushed on. She knew she'd find things a little easier if she rented a place that was less expensive, but she harboured an irrational fear that if Ted were to return, that he wouldn't be able to find her if she moved. Sometimes she wondered if he'd left her, but she knew he'd never do that. She missed him terribly and not having any word from him was agony. Still, life went on and she had to be as strong as ever for her daughter. "Nymphadora," She said, nodding her head to the book shop. The pair entered, Nymphadora striding on it, standing out like a sore thumb. Today her hair was a beautiful brown, almost the colour she'd been brown with, however she'd insisted she come dressed as a tiger. Thankfully Andromeda had a tiger costume sitting around from a couple of years ago when Nymphadora had wanted to be a tiger, so with a few helpful spells the costumes grew in size to fit Nymphadora, all though Andromeda put her foot down on her daughter growing her own ears and tail for the costume, or changing her face or teeth for the event. Nymphadora agreed but Andromeda was still going to keep an eye on her daughter, she was cheeky and crafty and undoubtedly wouldn't be able to resist showing off at some point. "Out the back." She said, ushering her daughter towards the back of the shop and out to the garden, Nymphadora heading straight for a table where arts and crafts were set up. Drommie sighed, that would keep Nymphadora preoccupied for a little while, she hoped.

Drommie smirked and folded her arms, her right foot out to the side a little, tapping on the floor. "That's right, Cissy." She said, not giving a single shit that a lot of people in the restaurant were now looking their way. "Turn it all on me. Thought I was supposed to be the one that was good at twisting the truth, though let's face it," She gave a condescending chuckle, "You wouldn't know the truth if it gave you a well deserved slap across the face." Well screw this mess, Drommie wasn't going to stand around, arguing with her sister in front of Nymphadora. "Come on, Dora." She said, reaching her hand out to her daughter, "We can find somewhere better to eat." Her daughter groaned but gave a cheery wave to the baby and then poked her tongue out at Cissy as Drommie pulled her out of the restaurant. Usually Drommie would have scolded her but she couldn't have been more proud of her daughter at the moment.

Honestly, what the hell did Narcissa expect a kid to do? It infuriated Andromeda that Narcissa was such a stuck up cow. How the hell had she managed to escape such a messed up family? And Sirius too. Considering how the pair of them were raised, it was an outright surprise that two of them had seen the complete dragon dung their family spouted at them. Narcissa was never exactly dim, but she was certainly compliant. As much as Andromeda sometimes missed her family, Narcissa was making it easy for Drommie to see that she was better off without their hateful views. Had she been anyone else, Drommie would have poured a good amount of ice water all over Narcissa's head, but the fact they were family and had once been close afforded Narcissa some minor level of respect, if wanting to just kick her sister rather than actually doing it was considered some degree of respect. "How incredibly intrusive you are, or perhaps jealous." She said, her voice venomous. Knowing Narcissa, she wanted nothing but to humiliate Ted over some neon yellow arm band all muggleborns were supposed to wear. Well Ted was not one of those people and his whereabouts was none of Narcissa's business, not that Andromeda knew where her husband was. "He and Nymphadora are my real family," She said, lifting her head, proud of her family, "But then I wouldn't expect you to understand. Sold off to the highest bidder, incapable of thinking for yourself." Drommie looked to the little baby, "And continuing the pernicious cycle."

It had been a good ten years or so since Drommie had seen her sister. Drommie had missed her family terribly, even Bella, but when they'd turned their backs on her, they'd made their choice and she'd made hers. Ted and Nymphadora were her family. It was a quiet and secluded life but it was better than being with people that despised her husband purely because his parents hadn't been magical like them. He was a man of honour, he was a man with integrity, which was a hell of a lot more than she could say for anyone from her old life. His honour and his integrity was what had him on the run now, hiding from the Ministry and its barbaric views on muggleborns. More than once their home had been searched from top to bottom, left a mess by morons that thought Ted would be home. She just claimed that he'd left her - which was true in a way - and eventually they left. It was a hard thing to explain to her daughter, but Nymphadora was a fighter if ever there was one, although her mouth was probably going to get her in trouble some day if she didn't control it.
Noticing Cissy pull the pram away from Nymphadora, Drommie rolled her eyes and scoffed, "Honestly, Narcissa, grow up, would you." She said in a tone she usually reserved for Nymphadora when she was being too rambunctious. "She's a child, what could possibly happen?" Nymphadora went comically stiff and stared from her mother to her estranged-aunt and then back to her mother, wondering if her mother was about to tell another grown up off in some random restaurant. Nymphadora was used to her mum yelling at her over the course of the day, especially with her dad gone, her mum seemed more on edge than usual, however talking like that to someone Nymphadora perceived to be a stranger? Well that was just awkward and interesting!

Christmas this year was going to be tough. Drommie was living paycheck to paycheck, trying to keep her head above water. Ted was off on the run and she'd not heard from him in over a month. Was he even still alive? Drommie had to tell herself he was, that it was just too hard and too dangerous to get in contact right now. He'd make himself known soon enough and in the meantime, she and Nymphadora had to carry on as normal and that meant Christmas shopping, even if she didn't much feel like celebrating the festive season this year.
Most of their Christmas shopping was done in charity shops. Thankfully they didn't have a lot of people to buy for. Ted's parents were gone and her own parents had disowned her. She got a little something for Sirius, not that she saw him all that often, but at least they were on good terms and she wanted to keep it that way. She'd lost nearly all her friends from school when she'd run off with Ted so she didn't have to buy for any of those snobby cows - thank Merlin. Bella was dead, she didn't know he niece and Narcissa didn't talk to her. No one had even told Drommie about little Draco, she found out from a birth announcement in the Daily Prophet. Still she had sent congratulations to her sister in the worm of a 'congratulations' card, just as she had done when she'd found out from a mutual friend about Aurora, but she had to be seven now, same age as Nymphadora. Merlin it was scary to think those two would be at school together.
Life was plodding along but Drommie felt as though she was going backwards, or somehow kind of adjacent to everyone else. They all seemed to be making progress with their lives - apart from Bella - but she'd lost Ted and yet things were still sort of carrying on. Her world was wrong without her husband by her side. She respected his decision, he had to stand up for himself and others just like him, but damn she missed him. To try and take her mind off of him she decided to take Nymphadora out for a little lunch. It wasn't something she could afford to do often but they were having a girly shopping day and Drommie wanted to make it memorable for her daughter so they stopped by the Amalthea's. They could have lunch, grab some desert and maybe even have a hot chocolate each. "Mum! Mum!" Nymphadora said, tugging at Drommie's coat, "Look! It's a baby!" Drommie, who had been talking to a waitress, turned to Nymphadora, to tell her to stay by her side rather than following her impulsive nature, but it was too late, her darling daughter of seven years old, almost eight, was off as quick as a flash, to look at the baby.
"Wow!" She said, looking at the little blonde baby in its pram, "You sure do got a pretty baby, miss!" Nymphadora said to the mum before she looked at the baby and started pulling faces, meanwhile Drommie looked at the woman the baby was with and felt her stomach drop. Just her luck. Drommie walked over to Nymphadora and placed her hand on her shoulder, Nymphadora now changing her hair to a shocking bright pink from its mousy brown, making it all short and spiky, knowing her mother didn't approve of her showing off her abilities in public, but also knowing Drommie wasn't going to tell her off in front of so many people. "Cissy." She said with a small nod, "Congratulations on little Draco." She said, smiling slightly although the last thing she felt like doing was smiling right now.

[attr="class","recbox"] [attr="class","recinfo"] TED TONKS married adorkable muggleborn father [attr="class","recscroll"] want for: Andromeda Irma Tonksapp: Andromeda appSay hi to Ted! This is Ted, if you were wondering. He’s the sweetest, kindest, funniest guy you’re ever gonna come across and he is the love of Andromeda’s life. Her family turned their backs on her over Ted for he, surprise surprise, is a Muggleborn. Shock horror! Well he’s so charming and funny, who could have resisted? He and Andromeda are just soul mates and together they have a 7 year old Metamorphmagi daughter named, you guessed it! Nymphadora!! Ted works at the Ministry and Andromeda cleans/organises houses for a living. Ted’s not the wealthiest man nor is he from a wealthy family, but he’s a hard worker and he does what he does at the Ministry to support Andromeda and Dora, however with the ministry cracking down on muggleborns and magic Ted has a choice to make, and whatever he makes Andromeda will back him all the way. He will either have to register as a muggleborn or go on the run, either with his family or alone. It’s a big thing, it’s scary, it’s drama!! At school Ted would have been the same year as Dorcas Amilie Meadowes, Tersha Alara Knight, Rabastan Aramis Lestrange, Bellatrix Druella Lestrange and Logan Horatio Crabbe. He was a Hufflepuff and that’s the extent of what we’ve got, leaving the character open to the taker’s preferences. The face claim is open. This is Adam Brody because he’s a total goofball and so adorable ►[newclass=.recscroll::-webkit-scrollbar]width:3px;[/newclass]made by [newclass=.recscroll::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color:#fff[/newclass] kaigra[newclass=.recinfo]height:250px;width:500px;transition:all 1s linear;margin-left:500px;[/newclass] ◄[newclass=.recbox:hover .recinfo]margin-left:0px;[/newclass]
