True commitment requires sacrifice
It was a rare sight to see; Kingston and his wife attending a non-work, non-familial affair together. King liked to play up his busy schedule, and he didn’t have many people he called ‘friend’ so it wasn’t as though he was expected to bring the missus along on a friendly outing to the winery or for a round of golf at the club. Kingston did those sorts of things on his own without his villainous ball and chain, whenever he felt the urge to be social, which wasn’t very often. King couldn’t remember now whose idea it had been to attend tonight’s event, and he supposed it didn’t matter. They were here now, his wife standing at his side as he admired a painting in silence for longer than was necessary. He wasn’t certain they would be buying anything tonight – it wasn’t his style. Staring at the blue hued piece in front of them, not speaking to Odie, was a sort of public penance for any transgression she might have recently committed. It was proving to be an exhausting evening of feigning respect for his wife and putting on airs around all these people who he couldn’t care less about, though King had to admit the champagne and hors d'oeuvres helped minutely.

True commitment requires sacrifice
Had it not been for the child she carried in her belly, Kingston would have been rather pleased to sit in silence, chewing his meat and watching his wretched wife choke on her food. It would have made for a lovely dinner time show and he often tuned her foreign ramblings out while picturing her face purpling and her eyes bulging on the opposite side of the table from him. He swallowed his bite, that very image entering his mind just as the real Odette clenched her jaw and made a pained expression. Blue-green eyes lifted from his plate, a slight hint of worry gracing his large forehead. His wife’s discomfort was nothing to him were it not for their unborn child. Kingston was many things, cold, callous, and pompous but he loved his children dearly. Any trauma to Odette that could be linked to his child was cause for concern. Hands dropping so that his wrists rested on the table, King watched as Odie recovered and moved to take a sip of wine, asking an idiotic question the process. The worry vanished from his brow, replaced by a slight scowl. “Such a mystery why a woman with no qualifications fit for anything other role would want to tend to the only creatures on the planet who can stand her presence.” He began carving at another piece of meat on his plate. “Perhaps we’ll figure it out someday.”

True commitment requires sacrifice
Whomever decided that children’s events would take place in the middle of the work week were truly sadistic. King had spent much of the morning in trial, hearing the pathetic woes of a muggleborn wizard trying to claim innocence against his accused crimes, and then instead of having a relaxing break for lunch, King rushed off to catch the end of Giselle’s dance recital. The seven year old had been talking for weeks about her big performance, pleading with her father to ensure he would be there, and he had been.
Standing at the back of the room, his wife and youngest daughter sat in front of the auditorium, Kingston watched the awkward children move about the stage in their leotards and tights, slightly off-step from each other but clearly having memorized the moves. He’d conjured a bouquet of flowers the size of Gigi’s head and brought them to her after her performance. She was so pleased with herself and so excited that King had made it. Bridgette was sulking that she’d not gotten a turn on the stage and had to be reminded that her class would have their own performance soon enough. His girls were lovely but he had work to be getting back to and without having had any real food since a hasty breakfast early this morning, King was now feeling rather irritable. The crowd in the atrium at the Ministry did not better his mood.
“What’s all this, then?” Kingston spotted a familiar face on the edge of the crowd near him, and pushed through the small distance toward Titus Rowle, a colleague and member of the Wizengamot alongside Kingston. Rowle was a fair bit older than King, but he was a decent man and of a respectable family, definitely someone worthy of Kingston’s notice.

True commitment requires sacrifice
This game again. King set his jaw, grinding his teeth as Odie feigned ignorance of a language she’d spoken since she was a teen. If there had been any reasoning or understanding between the couple, he wouldn’t have faulted her for this game she played with him now, pretending not to understand the very clear words he was saying. He shouldn’t have faulted her because he did the same thing to her, in fact, he’d been the one to start it early in their arranged relationship. Kingston had spoken fluent French since he was three years old, but he would often pretend he couldn’t speak a lick of his wife’s foreign tongue just to get at her. Why he had ever started it was a reason long forgotten, but he kept up the practice now mostly because he loathed the woman who bore him his children. She was dull and vapid and nothing like he would have picked for himself were he given the option. A real language barrier would have been preferred but time to time he settled for a false one, humoring himself in the process, but he did not appreciate having the tables turned on himself.
King set to cutting his meat, purposely scratching the plate with a sharp, ear piercing scraping sound as Odie finally “realized” what he had been asking. Odette finished her poorly constructed sentence in French, but Kingston understood it easily enough that he didn’t need the translation she provided. “Perhaps one day you’ll see fit to mind your own children like a proper mother.” His bitter words were said just as he shoved a large piece of meat into his mouth. He looked forward to very little about his personal life but the girls were the one exception. He could have done with their shining faces after such a long day but instead his wife had seen fit to pawn them off on his sister as if she were their babysitter.

True commitment requires sacrifice
It had been a long, tedious day at work but still King was not looking forward to coming home. Rarely did he ever. His children were perfect and his home immaculate but sharing his quarters with his wife was not appealing in the slightest. Even worse was having to look at her self-righteously smug expression over tea. How someone so classically beautiful could look so utterly repulsing was impressive, and King had to give it to her, no one could sneer quite like his darling Odette. Her smile made him want to gouge out his own eyes and were it not for the alliance their marriage had created between their two great families, Kingston would have cut the woman out of his life long ago.
He arrived home later than he was expected, though there was no need for him to be concerned that he would be rushed at the door by a worried wife. She was probably enjoying her extra time apart from her husband. Had she any real ambitions she might have had a job herself, something of value to contribute instead of sitting on her ever-growing arse and teaching his children to loathe their father in the same manner their mother did. Supper was already served, the family supposedly gathered in the dinning room but when he stepped into the room, having shed his cloak in the foyer and left their servant to worry about putting it neatly away, he was not greeted with the smiling faces of his daughters. “Where are the girls?” he addressed his wife without greeting, barely looking her direction as he moved to the head of the table where an empty plate was waiting for him. The candles at the center of the table blocked most of the view of his wife, though they had burned down considerably in his absence and thus the top of her forehead was easily observed. He looked to his plate which was now filled with food, and he looked back across the length of the table to the annoying forehead and waited for a response.

Front Garden The large front garden is broken up by a circular driveway and lined with ivy and rosebushes. The wild of the woods is tamed with precision care, creating a large space for the James children to run around while playing. Back Garden A large patio sits off the dining room and divides the expansive back garden from the home. Stone steps lead away from the patio to the lush greenery, a stone walkway eventually becoming a pebbled path that leads out into the woods. Entry Corridor Paneled walls welcome visitors to the James' family home. A long corridor runs the length of the ground floor, from the front door all the way to the dining room at the back of the house. Lounge A large wood-trimmed room with vaulted ceilings is the first space directly off the entry corridor. The piano, a family heirloom, sits off to the side. Classic furnishings fill out the rest of the room, including a sitting space designed with enlightened conversation in mind. The stained glass windows are draped with velvet, floor length curtains, pulling the majestic appearance of the room together. Library Just beyond the lounge is the library, where the James keep all of their families' cherished books and memoirs. The children are encouraged to sit quietly while their nanny reads to them and while the eldest daughter, Giselle, studies. Raucous behavior is not permitted in this room, but just through the french doors they can run about outside to their hearts' content. Dining Room At the end of the long ground-floor corridor you will find the dinning room. Decorated in much the same fashion as the rest of the house, red floor-length curtains frame the windows, and decorative rugs cover the original hardwood floors. The table seats 10 comfortably, but the room can host several more with a quick enchantment. Kitchen Used mainly by the cook and the few servants the family employs, the kitchen is a smaller space with less fanfare than the rest of the home has been given. It suits its purpose and there is nothing elaborate here worth mentioning. First Floor Corridor Just beyond the lounge is a large staircase that leads to the first floor. Like the one below it, the first floor corridor spans the length of the house. Leading to the family's private quarters, one side of the corridor is open to overlook the large lounge below. Master Bedroom and En Suite Wood paneling throughout the room paired with strategically placed candelabras create a dark, intimate environment where the not-so-happy couple share their nights. A modern en suite was added after the couple purchased the home.

blue mahoe, phoenix feather, 11 inches |
PERSONALITY Boggart: A pile of gold crumbling into ash - Kingston fears his family falling back into obscurity were their money to run out Mirror of Erised: His wife dead, and his children standing beside him unaffected Patronus: Scorpion - Kingston cannot produce a patronus as he has no happy memories strong enough to summon one.
Kingston is not a social person for the sake of being social. He has very few legitimate friends and most of his social contacts are for strategic purposes. The James children grew up in a middle-class family, but after getting a taste for the high life, Kingston has no plans to return to any subpar status. He makes "friends" with people in high standing and stays in their good graces so as to assure himself an invite to every social event and therefore every dinner where decisions may be made. Kingston truly likes very few people, thinking himself above most everyone in intellect. Every social connection, right down to his wife, has been part of a well-thought out plan to ensure himself a good life.
Kingston can be rather condescending when speaking with most people, though many shrug it off as him just being forward or sometimes even joking though there is rarely a time when Kingston would make a joke. He is highly respected in his role in Wizengamot and he takes pride in the fact that his opinions are held in such high esteem. He has been very vocal in the past about his distaste for his extended family of bloodtraitors and about his desires to see the muggle race wiped out but he has always ruled fairly and in accordance with the law, even if it were in favor of a muggleborn, and has therefore gained a reputation as a good man within the Ministry. HISTORY Mother: Amelia James née Moon, 55, pureblood, Ravenclaw alumna Father: Daniel James, 56, pureblood, Slytherin alumni Siblings: Paris Cordelia James , sister, forever 28, pureblood, deceased. Vienna Phoebe Rosier , sister, 29, pureblood. London James, sister, 19, pureblood. Partners: Odette James, wife, __, pureblood. Children: Giselle James, daughter, 7, pureblood. Bridgette James, daughter, 4, pureblood. Baby James, still baking, pureblood. Others: Maximilian Rosier, nephew, 2, pureblood. Matilda Rosier, niece, 1, pureblood.
The first born child of Amelia and Daniel James, Kingston was most clearly the favorite of all the James children. He was a male and the rightful heir to the family, and after his parents began to do business with the elite, Kingston became the heir to a tidy fortune as well. Kingston' younger years were unremarkable. He showed signs of magic around five, took an interest in sports around the same age, and began reading for enjoyment when he was six. At eleven he went to Hogwarts and was sorted into Slytherin and felt like a complete outsider throughout most of his time at school. He knew he was smarter than everyone in his year and yet he had to suffer through their tedious conversations and juvenile dramatics, all the while trying to get him to join in. Needless to say, he was not well liked by the end of his Hogwarts career. He graduated with high marks in both his OWLS and NEWTS and got a job as a junior lawyer for the Ministry, working his way up to full-fledged Wizengamot member by the time he was 26. With his family's newfound money and emerging social status, Daniel and Amelia arranged for Kingston to marry a pureblooded witch from France, cementing the James family's position in the wizarding elite. Kingston agreed, as a dutiful son, but he finds no harmony in his marriage. Despite speaking several languages, French among them, Kingston often feigns a lack of understanding when his wife speaks to him, especially if she has been rather irritating lately. Other times, when he is in a good mood, he will speak to his wife in perfect French, only pissing her off even further. The couple have two and a half children, two girls with another on the way. Kingston is determined to have a son and will impregnate his wife as many times as is necessary to ensure his family has an heir. With all of his siblings being witches, one of whom is already dead, the James name would die with him if he was not given a son. While loyal to his wife to an extent - he hasn't planned her murder yet or shamed her as a woman by divorcing her, Kingston does seek carnal relations outside of his marital bed. He has even forced a few mistresses to terminate a pregnancy so as not to shame his wife and their children with the knowledge that he has been unfaithful.
