True commitment requires sacrifice
It had been a long, tedious day at work but still King was not looking forward to coming home. Rarely did he ever. His children were perfect and his home immaculate but sharing his quarters with his wife was not appealing in the slightest. Even worse was having to look at her self-righteously smug expression over tea. How someone so classically beautiful could look so utterly repulsing was impressive, and King had to give it to her, no one could sneer quite like his darling Odette. Her smile made him want to gouge out his own eyes and were it not for the alliance their marriage had created between their two great families, Kingston would have cut the woman out of his life long ago.
He arrived home later than he was expected, though there was no need for him to be concerned that he would be rushed at the door by a worried wife. She was probably enjoying her extra time apart from her husband. Had she any real ambitions she might have had a job herself, something of value to contribute instead of sitting on her ever-growing arse and teaching his children to loathe their father in the same manner their mother did. Supper was already served, the family supposedly gathered in the dinning room but when he stepped into the room, having shed his cloak in the foyer and left their servant to worry about putting it neatly away, he was not greeted with the smiling faces of his daughters. “Where are the girls?” he addressed his wife without greeting, barely looking her direction as he moved to the head of the table where an empty plate was waiting for him. The candles at the center of the table blocked most of the view of his wife, though they had burned down considerably in his absence and thus the top of her forehead was easily observed. He looked to his plate which was now filled with food, and he looked back across the length of the table to the annoying forehead and waited for a response.

The day had gone smoothly. The children hadn't made a peep when they were not with her as far as Odette was concerned and the staff hadn't bothered her. For Odie that was something of a good day. She had spent time with her daughters earlier, waking the grounds with them. They had played merrily and Odie had cleared a darkening sky so that her daughters would not be rained upon. They were sweet girls although Odie was not attached to them the way she had thought she would be. The mother of two, almost three children, had thought that she would be closer with her children. She had given them names that had meaning to her and yet she didn't love them the way she thought a mother ought love their children. Certainly she did not hate them, and she would forever care for them, but she was not enamoured with her children. They did not light up her life but one would not know that really. Odie had always thought of herself as a rather convincing actress and the events that had unfolded in her life truly made her believe that she was quite believable.
It was time for supper. Odie made her way to her seat at the end of the table, as far from her husband as it was possible to be. It was an awful feeling to be trapped in a life she had never wanted but here she was, largely pregnant and awaiting her husband's arrival. She sat glancing through Pur Magazine until she heard his arrival through another room. She got rid of her magazine with an elegant swish of her wand and then slipped holly wood away for later. Kingston entered, trying to play a part above his station. The only reason he was even remotely noteworthy was because of his marriage to her. Without her he'd be married to some lesser pureblood. Odie had been shipped away, basically sold into a life she had no desire to live. She was losing her youth to this man and he had no common decency to even act grateful for her sacrifice for him. She was losing her younger years, she'd married him before she was even out of her teenage years. She had given him two daughters and she was pregnant with a third child and yet there was nothing about him that was grateful for what she gave him. The status, the children. "Ze girls?" She repeated, laying on thick her natural French accent, feigning confusion over his words, despite being fluent in multiple languages, one of which was English. "I do not think that I am understanding." She spoke, understanding perfectly well, just having nothing better to do with her time meant that she was messing around for King for no reason other than she could. "Ah, les filles, ze girls! Giselle et Bridgette. Zey make going of. Zey... visite avec ta soeur." She finished her broken English with French, "Vienna. Zey wanted to veesit 'er. So I took zem to 'er." She had indeed taken their daughters to his sisters for a visit. They adored their new baby cousin Matilda and had fun looking after Maximilian and Vienna didn't seem to mind having them all visit. She and Camron were actually rather good with the girls which Odie quite liked. It was a terrible thing to be trapped in a loveless marriage, but at least her sister in law was tolerable.

True commitment requires sacrifice
This game again. King set his jaw, grinding his teeth as Odie feigned ignorance of a language she’d spoken since she was a teen. If there had been any reasoning or understanding between the couple, he wouldn’t have faulted her for this game she played with him now, pretending not to understand the very clear words he was saying. He shouldn’t have faulted her because he did the same thing to her, in fact, he’d been the one to start it early in their arranged relationship. Kingston had spoken fluent French since he was three years old, but he would often pretend he couldn’t speak a lick of his wife’s foreign tongue just to get at her. Why he had ever started it was a reason long forgotten, but he kept up the practice now mostly because he loathed the woman who bore him his children. She was dull and vapid and nothing like he would have picked for himself were he given the option. A real language barrier would have been preferred but time to time he settled for a false one, humoring himself in the process, but he did not appreciate having the tables turned on himself.
King set to cutting his meat, purposely scratching the plate with a sharp, ear piercing scraping sound as Odie finally “realized” what he had been asking. Odette finished her poorly constructed sentence in French, but Kingston understood it easily enough that he didn’t need the translation she provided. “Perhaps one day you’ll see fit to mind your own children like a proper mother.” His bitter words were said just as he shoved a large piece of meat into his mouth. He looked forward to very little about his personal life but the girls were the one exception. He could have done with their shining faces after such a long day but instead his wife had seen fit to pawn them off on his sister as if she were their babysitter.

His pointed rat face disgusted her. Odie had thought many times of killing her husband, of playing the part of the grieving widow but she was worried that she might be caught out. She had left France shortly after the death of her mother and father and she had already been looked into by French authorities as their murderer. Of course she was but they hadn't known that, they'd cleared her as there was no evidence to suggest at all that she was to blame. It turned out that Odie had rather liked killing her parents, the couple had deserved it and more and while she'd not been fully aware of what she was doing at the time, Odie had snapped out of her almost spell-like mind to realise what she'd done. She tidied up everything she could, she cleaned herself and made sure their murders could not be pinned on her. It would be just as easy to kill Kingston, perhaps even easier seeing that there was only him to murder. Odie thought she'd play the part of widow rather well if given the chance, but not yet. They'd been married for a while. They had two children and another on the way. As soon as she'd expelled this one from her womb then she would revisit her plans and consider killing her wretched husband.
As if his face were not disgusting enough Kingston's words were just as horrid. He was a disgusting man with no respect for the pregnant mother of his children. Odette despised the man at the other end of the table but she did not allow that to show, instead she clenched her jaw and faking something being terribly wrong with the baby, just to shut him up. He was a callous husband but he had a weakness in his daughters. He would do anything for them and that was most amusing. "Et pourquoi aurais je faire cette, mon cher?" She asked, dropping her cutlery on her plate and letting the land with a clank that echoed in the nearly empty room. She reached in front of her and took hold of her half filled wine glass, bringing it to her lips and taking a sip, knowing her husband of eight years understood what she had to say well enough but waiting for him to act the fool, a part he was all too familiar with given his pea-sized brain.

Had it not been for the child she carried in her belly, Kingston would have been rather pleased to sit in silence, chewing his meat and watching his wretched wife choke on her food. It would have made for a lovely dinner time show and he often tuned her foreign ramblings out while picturing her face purpling and her eyes bulging on the opposite side of the table from him. He swallowed his bite, that very image entering his mind just as the real Odette clenched her jaw and made a pained expression. Blue-green eyes lifted from his plate, a slight hint of worry gracing his large forehead. His wife’s discomfort was nothing to him were it not for their unborn child. Kingston was many things, cold, callous, and pompous but he loved his children dearly. Any trauma to Odette that could be linked to his child was cause for concern. Hands dropping so that his wrists rested on the table, King watched as Odie recovered and moved to take a sip of wine, asking an idiotic question the process. The worry vanished from his brow, replaced by a slight scowl. “Such a mystery why a woman with no qualifications fit for anything other role would want to tend to the only creatures on the planet who can stand her presence.” He began carving at another piece of meat on his plate. “Perhaps we’ll figure it out someday.”

"I am done, wiz zis." She announced, standing from her chair. She was not going to put up with her husband's sour mood all evening. If he wanted to see his daughters then he knew where they were, he was more than capable of visiting his sister and enjoying the company of his daughters, but now, he'd rather sit opposite her and throw clumsy insults her way. He was no man. He was nothing but a coward. Odette hoped that they would have a son, she hoped that she would have a boy and then perhaps she would be able to fake her own death. She could leave Kingston with the children he loved and she could be free. That plan was certainly favourable to sticking around and having more of this monster's children, children she barely even loved. She had been forced into this life, a life that did not suit her in the slightest, and she wanted freedom from it all. She wanted to travel the world but instead she was walking from a dimly lit dining room, her glass of wine in hand, plotting ways she could fake her own death or find someone to kill her husband. She had no real friends in this life nor the one she had left behind in France. She was alone and in need of a social circle of some kind, but all the people in this country were either dull or dim or some like her husband were unfortunately both.
