Life was positively wonderful right now. Vienna had enjoyed her summer with her son, spending plenty of time with him and treating him to the world. Whatever her darling little Maximilian wanted, her darling little Maximilian had got. She would give him everything he desired because he deserved it. As well as time spent with her son she'd also spent time with Camron - her husband. The pair got on well and in fact they were closer than ever these days. They laughed about their marriage behind closed doors and had become quite close, bonding over men, clothes and of course their son. Camron may not have had any interesting in laying with her but what they were able to create together was simply marvellous. Camron was just as smitten with their son as she was, and they played the part of happy family so perfectly, because they were. It didn't matter that Camron's interests lay in the males of the species, they would always put their family first no matter what. His family's reputation had to be upheld, not only for society but for their truly wonderful son and now the newest addition they expected to welcome to their family in a little over seventeen weeks.
While store clerks tried chasing after Maximilian one warm afternoon, Vienna busied herself looking at books. She and Maximilian loved to shop. She would by whatever took her fancy while her son did as he pleased. Today's activity of interest was pulling the books off of shelves and tearing out the pages. He giggled and laughed while his mother listened out for him but there was little in the shop that took her fancy so far, but it had been such a long while since she’d been out shopping for herself and she fancied a new book and as she made her way into the ‘Psychology’ category of the non-fiction section. Taking a few steps, listening to Maxi scream with delight while he undoubtedly stripped another book of much needed pages, Vienna gently ran her hand over the swell of her stomach, her little precious kicking happily away within her. It was kind of exciting to be expecting another child, she loved Maxi more than she had ever anticipated, however she had no idea if she was ever going to be able to love another child. It just simply did not seem physically possible for her heart to accept anyone else the way she had fallen for Maximilian.

My promise to you always and forever
Perhaps he was slowing down now that his mid-thirties was approaching, or maybe it was simply the stress of raising a now one-year-old, but Dorian had put off this errand for nearly a month now, which was highly unlike him. In fairness, Dorian’s plate was rather full. Between work, Ariel, and searching for a proper home for the little family, there was not much free time left for tasks that weren’t time sensitive. His niece, Ariel, turned one the month previous and they’d had a little party for her at Dorian’s flat. Julian, Dorcas, Emily, Andre, Geralina, and a few of River’s old mates who had kept in touch with Dorian for Ariel’s sake had all managed to pile into Dorian’s one room apartment. The rooftop garden was open for their use during the party and it made for a nice escape when one needed a little elbow room, but when it came time for Ariel to try her first piece of birthday cake or to tear at the paper wrapped around her presents, everyone crammed inside uncomfortably and watched Ariel light up with glee as shoved a fistful of shiny paper into her mouth and poked at the frosting of the cake she didn’t seem too sure about. The presents were all thoughtful and much appreciated, including the two copies of the same child’s picture book with pictures of animals whose names corresponded with each letter of the alphabet. He had meant to exchange the second copy (discretely, of course) for another book that Ariel might fancy but the party had brought into clear view that his home for the last several years was far too small to raise a child in. He already knew that, of course, but since Julian’s arrival almost a year ago there had been an uncomfortable feeling in the pit of his stomach that told Dorian he wouldn’t have custody of his niece/adopted daughter for long. Thankfully he was wrong and now house hunting had taken up the spare time Dorian would have used to get Ariel another book.
Pulling her pram into the store as Dorian entered backwards, holding the door to the shop open as he spun Ariel around, Dorian allowed a moment for his eyes to adjust to the dimmer light of Flourish and Blotts. Ariel reached out for a feather that was sticking out of a book titled “Feathers and Fur: Friendly Creatures for Senior Wizards” by New Scamander. “Hands to yourself, little miss,” he said happily, helping Ariel’s fingers release the decorative feather as the book squawked at them. “Let’s have a look in the children’s section, shall we?” A young boy, no more than four judging by his size, ran passed Dorian and Ariel, laughing as a store clerk came zipping behind him. The sight only reinforced Dorian’s prediction that Ariel would be a well-behaved young lady, even if Dorcas did try to corrupt her from time to time.

Maxi was having a wonderful time shopping with his mother. The tall toddler was having the time of his life as people cleaned up his messes behind him. Vienna was not bothered by her child's behaviour. Why would she be? He was but a toddler, a large baby if anything. He was two years of age and yet like his mother and father he was tall. Handsome too. Vienna knew that she was biased but he was a cute child. He was a handful though. He had bundles upon bundles of energy and Vienna was grateful that she could keep up. She was over half way through her pregnancy and with her darling Maximilian she had been so very tired, but with this little bundle she felt she had plenty of energy still. She suspected that they were having a little girl, something that delighted Vienna, but there would be no knowing until her child was born. A little boy and a little girl would be ideal for the tall witch that took the book she'd been eyeing off the shelf and then flipped it over to read the blurb.
Maximilian sounded a little far away and Vienna lifted her head to look in the direction she was certain her son had traveled in. She kept hold of the book, holding it at her side, as she walked through the book store to the sound of the happy laughter of her son. "Maximilian." She smiled fondly, approaching her child while passing by someone with a pushchair. She didn't bother glancing their way, she instead approached her beaming son who was tearing the flaps off a children's book and crouched down in front of him. "Maxi, time to pick some stories to take home, my little dove." She said, stroking his hair fondly, taking the ripped book from her son. Once Maxi had run off to start searching the shelves of the children's section for something to take home, Vienna handed the ripped and flap book to the store clerk who would fix it up without a complaint. Turning about Vienna rested her now free hand on her little bump and her eyes landed on the man she'd passed with the stroller and she offered him a smile, knowing that his chiseled features looked familiar for some reason, a reason that made her want to smile, but what was it that was so familiar about this smart looking gentleman?

My promise to you always and forever
Headed towards the children’s section, a woman passed by them and Dorian felt a swelling of emotion. It had been several months since he’d seen her at the former Minister for Magic’s spring soiree but even longer still since he’d felt this instant rush of happiness her face brought with him. Unencumbered by the expectations of seeing hundreds of somewhat familiar faces, friend and foe, that the Minister’s party had placed on him, Dorian’s first thought at seeing her was Paris. Not that she reminded him of Paris, nor even that she looked like Paris – impossibly so. It was more than a year and a half ago that he’d last felt the warmth of her touch but it was as thought it had only been a day as she passed by him. The illusion was shattered as she leaned down to speak to the child who was running amok in the bookshop, destroying merchandise his mother seemed not to be planning to pay for. The least of her personality flaws, if Paris’ rendition of her family was at all accurate. A happy squeal coming from Ariel as she reached again for a tantalizing book not meant for a child her age reminded Dorian that he was not without his own family drama.
As Paris’ nephew ran off towards the children’s section, Dorian caught sight of Vienna’s posture. Hand rested on the small bump that was her stomach. Raised better than to make a comment on a woman’s figure, Dorian didn’t need to ask in order to know, she was pregnant. It was a strange sight and he had to force his mind to remember that this was not Paris, though logically he knew it. A brief moment of evaluation was all the time he spent on Vienna before continuing on with Ariel to let her pick out a new book. She was taking a few steps here and there now, so when they arrived at the little corner filled with colorful cardboard and felt covered books, Dorian unbuckled her from her seat and allowed Ariel to totter while clutching the shelf. “That’s a good choice,” he remarked to his niece as she pulled on a bright red book with big yellow block letters on the front that read ‘ABC’. A picture of an apple, a broomstick, and a cauldron on the front. Ariel let the book fall to the ground, tracking it with her eyes before looking to the next book on the shelf. "Not sure about it, then? Alright. We'll keep shopping." Dorian knelt by his niece, picking each book up after she dropped it to the floor and trying to draw her attention back to it in the hopes she might take more of an interest in one if she saw the brightly colored, moving pictures inside.

The man carried on his way after observing her in return for a moment. Vienna let her eyes drop away from him for a moment and take in the rest of the bookstore that she could see from her current position before she turned and made her way after Maxi. Such a sweet boy, there was nothing in the world that could convince Vienna otherwise. He was very much like his father in appearance but his personality was entirely his own. He was full of life and wonder and there was little Vienna would do to quash that. She wanted her boy to not only be happy but to find wonder in his world, for one day it would be the perfect place for him, because of his blood and his name he would be treated like royalty by all but he would also have many things expected of him. His father's side wanted him to be trained to act like a gentleman, and Vienna was entirely on board with such a notion, however it was not yet time, he still had to find himself first, she did not want him to become some mindless follower. He was a leader and would be important in the world some day.
Vienna watched as Maximilian explored some more books but she could see that he was getting tired. He began rubbing his eyes as he looked at the books he might like to take home with him. Vienna knew all too well that if Maxi didn't get his way while he was tired, that he would create quite the scene. Her little man had some rather large emotions he liked to express in public and to avoid too big of a scene, Vienna often gave in to his every demand. She approached her son and bent down beside him, speaking softly and giving a few recommendations on books he might like. She found that she was met with quite a bit of resistance as he shouted "No!" To everything she had to say. He took off, making a beeline for the little blonde pig in a wig child that had come in with the well dressed gentleman. Vienna thought that his genetics should have produced a far more attractive child but it seemed not. "Maxi." She called as the boy took from the other child a colourful little book. Vienna continued trying to place the man in the suit, wondering if he was someone she'd fornicated with once upon a time, "Sweetheart," Oh dear Morgana, that was it! "My little dove, if this is the book you'd like, then let's take another from the shelf and return this to the little girl." She knew it wasn't going to go down to well with Maximilian, and usually she wouldn't have bothered trying to get him to return the book, after all what should she care if some other child was crying? But this was, if she was correct, too good of an opportunity to pass up. This man was not someone that had slept with her but he'd certainly slept with her double. The day she'd been there to encourage young Finley to kill her twin sister, she had seen this man, he had been the one to catch Paris as she'd fallen to the ground, he was the one who cried over her worthless life, he was her sweetheart.

My promise to you always and forever
Ariel had stumbled from her feet, falling onto her backside with a little plop that made the sweet angel giggle after a brief moment of stunned silence. Both hands clutching a book with two figures on the front cover, flying through the air on brooms. Ariel patted the book excitedly, smiling and giggling in an almost screech-like volume. Dorian smiled proudly as he watched his niece play with the book on the floor in front of her. He wondered if he had been as interested in books at this age, and whether that had anything to do with his love of reading as an adult. He hadn’t thought to ask his parents before their deaths, with no young children in his life then to evoke the thought. Perhaps River had been intrigued with books as a child. Dorian made a mental note to include this as a possible discussion topic with Julian, a task he found himself doing more often. Getting to know his brother and that part of his family was no simple task now that River was gone. Julian was more reserved with which family stories he decided to share, and more closed off in general than their sister had been. It made it difficult to get to know the man but for Ariel’s sake Dorian would put forth the effort.
The little boy who had previously been running amok in the store when they’d arrived had tottered up to Ariel and Dorian noted that he looked much younger than he’d originally expected. Still large for his age, the boy, Maxi, had more chub on his cheeks and in general looked to be not that much older than Ariel. Vienna called her son’s name as Max grabbed the book Ariel had been looking at. Ariel’s eyes followed the book, Dorian’s turned up to the woman moving closer to them. “That’s alright,” Dorian said gently as she guided her son to return the book to Ariel. “We have been working on sharing.” Ariel was a bit young to really understand such a concept, but Dorian felt impolite saying anything to the contrary, and Ariel hadn’t been upset event. She was more intrigued by the little boy, watching him walk around with an ease she’d not yet established.
He was in such an awkward position for greeting someone, especially the estranged sister of his dead girlfriend. Squatting close to the floor near Ariel so that he could point to the pictures and label them for her, Dorian looked up at the woman before rising to his full height, plucking his niece from the floor. Baby tucked against his suit jacket with his left arm, Dorian extended his right hand. “Dorian Humbert,” he said formally. “I believe I knew your sister.” There was no avoiding it now, so he had decided to lean in and simply introduce himself. Perhaps it would help to keep his eyes from lingering on her in a potentially creepy manner if he simply spoke to her.

It was never going to work out, separating Maximilian from something he wanted, so it was just as well that the gentleman was soft and compliant. Claiming to be working on sharing was an amusing cover because toddlers simply did not share but if that was the lie that he wished to follow through with, then Vienna was more than happy to play along with it, after all the longer she could stick around and softly torture him, the better. Seeing the familiar face of the woman he missed had to be at least a slight pinch to the heart. Paris had always been a bit promiscuous, a bit of a slut, so it was strange to have seen someone actually caring that she was dead. Besides her misfit friends that was. Vienna had thought that given Paris' allegiances, that in the very least Tersha would have had more sense than to have continued associating with her, but the bimbo seemed to not mind the reputation she got from mixing with blood traitors. Vienna considered the "journalist" a blood traitor, was this man one too? Most probably, but he was quite attractive, although far too stuffy for Paris, surely!
Vienna stood to her full height, which with her heels made her about the same height as the gentleman before her. As he introduced himself as having known Paris, Vienna was beginning to question if she'd read too much into his relationship with her twin. The man was far too well dressed, far too polite, and much more dignified than anything Paris had deserved while she was alive. Perhaps he was just a sort of friend, someone that was exceedingly emotional when people in close proximity died. Vienna could understand if that had been the case, although on that day the pair had seemed fairly intimate. "Oh?" She chuckled, her brows raising as she smiled politely, knowing Paris would have bitched to the man the second she could, Merlin that witch was always complaining and trying to garner sympathy. So she abandoned her family, of course she made them out to be the bad guys in that situation. She extended her hand to his and delicately shook, "I see. I'm Vienna Rosier, it's a pleasure to meet you, Dorian." She wondered if he was judging her based on what he'd heard from Paris or if he was someone that could make up his own mind. Vienna didn't care much either way. Her plan was to be as polite as possible towards the gentleman without coming across as fake, something she'd learnt to perfect quite a while ago when her family had inserted themselves into a higher calibre of society and then refined when she became someone with a notable family name. She could not be a Rosier and let on how she truly felt about some people, it would ruin their image, as her mother in law had drilled into her. While Camron's mother could be quite full on at times, Vienna had found her guidance somewhat useful on the odd occasion.

My promise to you always and forever
‘Pleasure’ was far too strong a word for their meeting, but Dorian smiled politely and shook the woman’s hand. Touching her was odd. It had been strange enough to see her that night several months ago at the Minister’s Gala, and even earlier passing her in the shop as her little boy ran amok, but standing here speaking to her and holding her hand in his for only a few short moments, that was remarkably odd. He would not have been able to describe it if he had been asked to do so. There was no putting words to it. It was purely emotional. And completely too much for the man who fought hard to keep himself as buttoned up as possible.
Taking his hand back, Dorian readjusted Ariel in his arms as she began tugging at the lapel of his jacket, trying to pull his pocket square loose and stuff it in her mouth. “Are you hungry?” he asked her, pulling the cloth from her mouth but still allowing her to hold it and wiggle it about as if it were a pendant she was waving. “Let’s get you some lunch, little Miss. Then we will visit Uncle Julian for a bit. How does that sound?” Ariel babbled at him and chewed on the pocket square once more, which Dorian took as a sign of agreement. Turning his attention back to Vienna for only a moment, he said, “It was lovely to meet you, Mrs Rosier. I hope your son enjoys his books.”
Setting Ariel into her pram and buckling the straps to keep her safe, Dorian looked at his beautiful blonde niece. She was so happy and bubbly, completely unaware of the turmoil brewing inside her uncle at that very moment. He knelt and picked up the little stack of books they’d looked through, and instead of putting them back on the shelf and just picking one, Dorian decided to purchase them all. The chaos of speaking to – and touching – the doppelganger of his dead love suddenly made Dorian feel as though he couldn’t possibly say no to anything Ariel wanted, even if she had only wanted each book for a few seconds at a time. She deserved to be happy and he would spoil her when he could, within reason. Books, he reasoned, were never something one could have too many of and it was never too early to foster a love of reading, but most importantly he wanted to get the hell away from the embodiment of Paris’ memory as fast as he possibly could.
