A girl should be two things classy and fabulous
Blah, blah, blah. From time to time it became apparent that Lyra was most definitely the most interesting Burke child, and this was one of those times. As her sisters chatted about their work for the magazine – all behind the camera, which was just ridiculous when you were as attractive as any of the three blondes that currently stood in the middle of Whimsic Alley – Lyra’s mind began to wander. She needed a manicure before opening night, and a massage always helped to relax her before a big show. These were things she had yet to book and she really ought to get on it. Did she need a facial as well? It couldn’t hurt, she supposed. That theatrical makeup was all very thick and wreaked havoc on one’s complexion if the skin wasn’t properly cared for. Lyra had an extensive skin care routine, but a facial was always a welcomed bonus. Her mental planning was interrupted as Livvia bumped playfully into her hip, apparently having ended her and Lilith’s conversation about their boring jobs.
Clapping her free hand over Liv’s wrist as her sister looped arms with her, Lyra grinned at her eldest sister. “Most definitely. We’re always on our best behavior,” she smirked and then whispered an aside to Livvia, “in public.” She giggled. Lyra agreed that a visit to Fifth Element would be a spectacular start to a little sisterly bonding, not that they were the sort of family that was in need of such things. The Burkes were incredibly close-knit and loving; a rarity in this world, apparently. Lyra loved all her siblings equally, but she found Livvia, who was closest to her in age, to be the most fun to be around. Lilith was more proper than the rest, Lucian a bit over protective, and Lysander was simply the baby. It was yet to be seen what he would look like as an independent adult but he was a Burke and therefore Lyra, as well as everyone else in the family, knew that he would do well when the time came.

A girl should be two things classy and fabulous
Watching Jerome shrug his shoulders and move on to the next bar patron was not enough for Lyra. It wasn’t simply enough that this handsome wanker not get a drink after such a disrespectful display. She wanted him thrown out on his arse. She wanted retribution for her potentially ruined top, despite the fact that she was able to get the liquor out before it stained her blouse. It was the principle of the thing and judging by his handsome features he was probably very familiar with getting his way. Attractive people normally were, but there was a vast difference between getting something you want and purposely ruining someone else’s night.
Lyra’s narrowed eyes watched as the wizard looked down at himself, apparently just realizing he was wearing a glassful of firewhiskey on his suit. Who wears a suit to a nightclub? What sort of snobbish bore would think the businessman look was suitable – no pun intended – for dancing and drinking and making bad decisions with attractive strangers? Lyra enjoyed dressing up as much as the next witch, but she wouldn’t be caught dead in Charmed wearing a ball gown. Clearly this bloke was a total nutter. Shame all the hot ones were married or crazy.
An apology. Finally! Typically this wouldn’t be enough to placate Lyra, as most people who apologized after some offensive act were only doing so because it was expected or because they were afraid of what might happen if they didn’t. Lyra herself couldn’t do much of anything, but her family was well connected, and she wanted this man to pay for his rudeness she could certainly make it happen. “I suppose it is the least you could do,” she answered to his offer of buying her a drink.

A girl should be two things classy and fabulous
Already in a sour mood from having her evening ruined by a clown running about in a crowded nightclub and wayward drinks being tossed about, potentially ruining her designer outfit, Lyra did not take kindly to the words coming from this handsome man’s mouth. His tone had been cordial enough in reality but to her annoyed ear it sounded as though he was getting smart with her. That simply would not stand. “Who do you think you are? You throw liquor on women and run away without a word, and expect no one to call you on your actions as you prepare another round?” The expression on her pretty face was that of indignation.
This was not how her evening was supposed to end. After such a roaring applause at the playhouse for her brilliant performance, she was supposed to have witches and wizards falling all over her to buy her drinks, not throw them in her face. Was she losing her touch that people would treat her so poorly? Instinctively, Lyra had the urge to run to her older brother and complain, to make him track this fool down and have him pay for tarnishing the memory of this evening for her, but she wasn’t a child any longer and she could take care of herself without having Lucian fight her battles for her.
“Jerome!” she called, turning her eyes from the incredibly handsome, incredibly rude stranger over to the bartender who was at the far end of the bar pouring a bourbon. “If you serve this sod another drink for him to throw around the dancefloor, I can very well take my business elsewhere.” Charmed was certainly not the only night club in London catering only to the magical community. It wasn’t even the only night club in Whimsic Alley. The Burkes had enough money to permanently reserve a private booth at any club, or a table at any restaurant they wanted, and Lyra did not need to be paying good money for the establishment to encourage these sorts of shenanigans.

A girl should be two things classy and fabulous
The people around her were gorgeous, though not as gorgeous as she, and Lyra was happy to press her body up against them as she swayed to the music. Closing her eyes and letting her head fall back against the shoulder of whatever handsome stranger currently had his hands on her hips, a relaxed smile spread across her face. Lyra was in her element; attractive people, loads of attention, music, lights, and a buoyant energy that infected everyone around her.
She had finished a drink already, and hadn’t bothered to yet order another. Lyra didn’t like to get too drunk in public without someone around that she trusted to watch out for her. There were people in the world who were utterly obsessed with her, despite what her older sister might say with a superior looking roll of her eyes, and Lyra was smart enough to not give them any added incentive to think they could take advantage of her. Two was her max when she was alone, and she tried to space them out enough to create and maintain a nice buzz without affecting her ability to apparate home safely.
Apparently being responsible wasn’t enough to keep her safe from an assault. As Lyra turned to face her dance partner the man was shoved into her knocking her backwards into a girl who was foolish enough to bring a drink onto the dance floor. Fire whiskey flew into the air, arching like a rainbow before it came sloshing down on top of her 200 galleon designer top, splashing the stranger she’d been dancing with as well as the oaf who had run into the in the first place. The creep didn’t even have the decency to apologize as he continued running through the nightclub and toward the door.
Angrily, Lyra pushed away the man she had been dancing with – he clearly should have been able to stop all of this from happening – and made her way into the ladies toilets to attempt to clean herself up. Her shirt was soaked through and her top of her skirt was wet as well. “Brilliant,” she grumbled at her reflection in the poorly lit mirror. “Fan-bloody-tastic.” Lyra drew her wand from a pocket in her skirt that had been charmed to not bulge when holding something and whisked the liquor away. She smoothed her top and turned this way and that to ensure she had not missed any of the offending fire whiskey, then fluffed her hair, double-checked her makeup, and headed back out into the club.
As she stepped out of the loo, the bloke she’d been dancing with appeared, asking after her and offering to take her home. As if! Lyra rolled her eyes and walked past the man without a word, heading to the bar to complain to Jerome, the bartender, about the event and insist someone escort her home. “Are you going to dump that one on someone as well?” The man at the bar who had just ordered a bourbon was none other than the oaf who had caused the scene on the dancefloor a few minutes ago. Now that he wasn’t running like a maniac, Lyra could see he was actually quite an attractive oaf, older and full of muscles, but still an oaf.

A girl should be two things classy and fabulous
“Happy coincidences, indeed,” Lyra said cheerfully, fully aware that Lilith was mildly put out by something about Lyra’s presence. There was always something. She wore her hair the wrong way, or her shoes were a shade lighter than her handbag. It was always a minor offense and Lyra knew that her older sister loved her to pieces, so she could hardly take offense to it, especially if Lilith managed to keep her remarks to herself as she was doing now. Lyra both wanted to know what was supposed wrong with her today and also didn’t. It would probably come out sooner or later, if not today than a year from now when Lilith made mention of the event for some reason and added in a sly little “you remember, your hair looked awful that day” or something of the sort. Her hair, however, looked perfect, as did the rest of Lyra. She was confident enough to believe herself when she thought that she didn’t need her sister’s approval, but unsure enough to still want it.
Liv joined them, looking like a happy little Eskimo in her fur-trimmed everything as she bounded over to where the women stood. Liv and Lilith greeted each other with a little kiss, then it was Lyra’s turn. It was always in that order; Lilith then Lyra. Eldest, then middle. Unless Lilith wasn’t around, in which case it was the baby (Liv) then Lyra. The only time Lyra was greeted first was when she was with either of her brothers, because then it was simply rude to not acknowledge the lady first. Lysander was off at school and Lucian had his fiancée and thriving business to attend to, so more often than not Lyra was left with the option of being greeted last or not at all. Not that it bothered her. She certainly hadn’t sulked on this very topic for the majority of her teenage years…
Liv asked if the two women were shopping without her and Lyra laughed. “I just asked the same thing!” She didn’t consider it being paranoid, she just liked being invited was all. “Well,” she said turning her eyes on her older sister now, “how about Liv and I go shopping without you some time and see if you don’t get a bit torn up over missing out on time with us.” Lyra knew that wouldn’t be the case. Lilith was an independent witch and didn’t get bogged down by that sort of thing. She also liked to talk about work, apparently, and Lyra’s eyes glazed over as Lilith brought up some job of Livia’s that wasn’t taking photographs of Lyra, so really why should she bother listening?

A girl should be two things classy and fabulous
“I’ll be in my dressing room.” Lyra, annoyed, flung open the break in the curtain and brushed past several stagehands as she made her way down the darkened hall to her dressing room. Rehearsal was not going well today. The lighting technician was out sick and his assistant was filling in, doing a piss poor job of things. Three times he had missed her spotlight cue and during the love scene he somehow flooded the stage with a disgusting green filter that made Lyra and her costar look as though their romantic boat ride was making them sea sick. To make matters worse, the daft idiot kept shouting down from the lightbox every time he realized he’d made a mistake, interrupting the actors on the stage with his shit-worthy apologies. Lyra couldn’t handle it any longer. The director called five and Lyra didn’t hesitate in removing herself from the unflattering lighting.
Sitting in front of the vanity, adjusting one of the curls in her hair, Lyra pouted into the mirror. Today was just not going well and she wanted to smack that lightboy right out of that damned box. She touched up her makeup, needing something to do with herself while she waited for the director to sort things out. Pink lips pressed together and then released with a nice popping sound that filled the room. Lyra drug her forefinger across her lower lip line to remove a bit of color that had run a little too low. Knock. Knock. Knock. “Hmm?” Lyra didn’t bother looking away from her reflection as one of the stagehands opened the door and popped his head in. “We’re wrapping for the day, Miss Burke. Frank’s been let go.” “Who?” Lyra stopped preening in the mirror and turned to look at the man. Was he speaking in third person like a pretentious moron or was he talking of someone else? “The lighting assistant, miss.” “He deserved as much, didn’t he?” The man nodded, said his goodbyes, and left the room, shutting the door behind him.
This was lovely. She now had an opportunity to turn this day around, given that she had a bit of unexpected free time. Grabbing her coat and her handbag, Lyra left the Winchester Playhouse, planning to do a bit of shopping. Shopping always cheered Lyra up. Heading down Whimsic Alley towards the jewelers, a pretty blonde up ahead caught Lyra’s eye. Lilith was standing in the street looking into the coffee shop. Following Lil’s gaze, Lyra saw her other sister waving from inside the shop, grinning like a mad woman at their older sister. Boots clicked on the cobbled street as Lyra’s pace quickened, catching up with Lilith easily. “Fancy meeting you here,” Lyra said happily as she came up behind her sister to stand at her side. “Are we meeting here without me, or is this a happy coincidence? You know I hate it when you two leave me out of things.” Lyra’s gaze shifted from her older sister on the street to her younger sister in the shop.

A girl should be two things classy and fabulous
The bright lights blinded her to the faces of the cheering crowd as she took her final bow. The movements of their clapping hands and the noise it created was an unmistakable applause as Lyra beamed, her chin high as her back straightened as she came back up again. She felt a flutter in her chest, that indescribable sense of adoration from her fans. She loved it. She craved it. The actors around her stepped back and Lyra bowed once more, basking in the glorious applause, supported by hoots and whistles and someone in the back of the theatre shouting her name. They loved her. The women wanted to be her and the men wanted to be with her. Nothing on this great green earth could replace the feeling of a standing ovation at the final curtain.
“Thank you,” she said with a practiced smile on her face as she passed a stagehand in the wings on her way to her green room. They all adored her, even her fellow thespians. Lyra couldn’t walk ten feet without someone telling her what a magnificent job she’d done tonight. She didn’t need telling, it was obvious in and of itself but still the congratulations were welcomed right up until the moment she shut her dressing room door and the noise of the theatre died away.
Reds, pinks, and purples covered the vanity, obscuring her view of the mirror as she sat on the plush little stool to tend to her face. Plucking the card from the center of the bouquet, Lyra gave a haughty grin as she read over the card, knowing instantly whose name would be signed at the bottom. Only one person called her his ‘golden goddess’ and while she quite liked the sound of the epithet, she didn’t much care for the man who had coined the phrase. She had dealt with worse offenders than this one, but her parents worried and had hired someone to keep this stalker away from her; clearly the body guard wasn’t doing his job properly. Lyra rose and moved to the door which led to the rest of the backstage. Pulling it open, she popped her head out and caught the eye of the first person to pass by. “Pardon, have you seen Rhys about?” Lyra would be having a chat with her father about her absentee body guard. She rolled her eyes as her question was answered. “Well ask about for him. I’ve got this bloody psychopath on me again.” She raised her hand flippantly, the card from her stalker on display. All the more attention on her, with the rest of the cast worried for her. Shutting the door again, Lyra threw the card in the bin and sat back in front of her vanity, admiring the beautiful flowers in front of her. He might have been a creep and a pervert, but her stalker did know a thing or two about arrangements. He never failed to get her something beautiful.
Her hair was perfect; long blonde curls that bounced as her hand ran over them, brushing them behind her shoulder. The makeup was a bit a heavy, as theatre makeup tended to be, so she pulled open the top drawer of her vanity and drew her wand. A few elegant rotations of the wrist and Lyra was ready to be seen outside of the playhouse. She changed out of her costume and put on her own clothing; a maroon skirt with a tight, black top that showed off a bit of her stomach. Pulling her fur-lined cloak over her shoulders, she left the flowers in her dressing room as she headed out a side door into a well-lit alley way that would lead her to the high street.
It was early still, only half past eleven, and Lyra was in high spirits after such an amazing performance. A good show did wonders for her energy level and tonight she felt like dancing. Turning towards the pounding thump of a bass, Lyra headed in the direction of the Charmed Nightclub. She walked straight past the queue out front and smiled at the door man, who let her inside after a kiss on the cheek and a compliment on her looks. The music was pulsating, and the lights swirled in a colorful haze around her. Lyra was given a private booth as she always was, and she flung her cloak over the seat as she ordered a cocktail and told the booth attendant to keep an eye on her things. Only moments later, Lyra was on the dance floor, letting the music take her over.

Potted plants bring a bit of color into the space. Kitchen and Dining Room The open-concept leads into the dining room. Large, decorative orbs function as ambient lighting which hang over the designer dining table. A house elf discretely prepares meals in the adjoining kitchen. Bedroom Light greys cover the walls as chocolate bedding brings a more sensual feel to the bedroom. Large windows covered in white curtains bring in a soft lighting during the day and look out over the city's night life in the evenings. En Suite Separated by a glass wall, the marble en suite features a large soaking tub and decorative chandelier. Guest Room Black and white feature prominently in the spacious guest room, finished with a white sheep's skin rug. A delicate chandelier hangs above the bed and a full-sized wardrobe is tucked discretely behind a wall of mirrors. Lyra Ophelia Genevieve Burke |
Birth Date: 17th February 1957 - 21 Wand: 9½”, yew, dragon heartstring |
PERSONALITY Boggart: Lyra hates to be ignored and thus whenever she is confronted by a boggart it becomes a small group of people, all of whom have their backs to her - no matter which direction they face, they are nothing but silent backs Mirror of Erised: She would be receiving an award, already holding several, at a banquet in her honor with an adoring audience applauding - the reason for the awards does not matter Patronus: Tiger - Lyra's happiest moment was her first performance, specifically the curtain call in which everyone stood and cheered
The middle child of five children, Lyra is in the seemingly unique position of being able to completely boss around her younger siblings, while still being bossed around herself by her older siblings. As such, Lyra is constantly in flux between wanting to be taken care of and wanting to take care of herself. Growing up, Lyra's older siblings, Lucian and Lilith, would often act as the ringleaders for the Burke children, dictating what they were to play and how they were to play it. In turn, Lyra did the same to her younger siblings, Livia and Lysander. Even as an adult she still believes she can get away with this to a certain extent.
The Burkes are an amazingly loving family for being so affluent, at least compared to some other wealthy, pureblood families that treat their children like property more than offspring, but even in a loving home someone could feel overlooked. This would be Lyra, but she'd be the first to admit that her version of "being overlooked" doesn't really line up with anyone else's version by a long shot. Never really having the opportunity to be the baby of the family, she was only little more than a year when Livia was born, Lyra has always wanted a bit more attention. When Lysander came along and claimed the title of 'the baby', Lyra had to try even harder. She would put on shows for her family, insisting mummy and daddy sit in the garden for an hour as she sang and danced and recited awful poetry that she'd written herself. Her parents always applauded and told her she was marvelous and Lyra simply ate it up. She is quite happy to be the center of attention and has no qualms about going out of her way to be viewed as such. She can be dramatic, something her older sister isn't overly fond of, but it accomplished her goals most of the time and so Lyra continues to make a show of herself.
HISTORY Mother: Elisabetta Grace Marie Burke (Borgin), 52, Slytherin, pureblood Father: Robert Ivan Burke, 56, Slytherin, pure blood Siblings: Lucian, 25, Slytherin, pureblood Lilith, 23, Ravenclaw, pureblood Livia, Slytherin, 20, pure blood Lysander, 18, Slytherin pure blood Partners: Others: Christian Burke, paternal uncle Catarina Burke (Avery), paternal grandma Edgar Burke, paternal grandpa Hetta Borgin (Rosier), maternal grandma Frederich Borgin, maternal grandpa Urbosa Borgin, maternal aunt Mipha Borgin, maternal aunt Lana Borgin, maternal aunt Impa Borgin, maternal aunt Epona Borgin, maternal aunt Septimus Borgin, maternal uncle
Elisabetta's family had owned Borgin's Antiques for over 785 years but the business was struggling to recover after the second world war. Hoping to reap a tidy bride-price by marrying off his most attractive daughter, Frederich Borgin arranged for Elisbetta to be wed. The family was in agreement that Elisabetta's marriage would save the family's struggling business but plans were turned on their end when Elisabetta instead married Robert Burke. A deal was set that appeased all involved, the Burkes would invest in the Borgin's Antiques, keeping the business afloat until the economy turned, at which point they would be equal partners. The shop was renamed Borgin & Burke's and saw a booming increase in their prophets after word got out that the illustrious Burkes had bought into the business. Things were going swimmingly for the Burkes professionally, and privately as well.
Betty and Bob Burke started a family, a large, happy family of five children, Lyra was the middle child. She and her siblings were given the finest education, taught manners, and attended deportment lessons. She was also given plenty of time to play and be a happy child. When Lyra went off to join her older siblings at Hogwarts, she was sorted into Ravenclaw where her sister Lilith had also been sorted a few years before. Lyra got on well with her peers, choosing to associate with other purebloods as was only appropriate. Lyra had many friends and found herself to be quite popular. She excelled in all areas of study, taking only those classes that would be of some importance to her after graduation. She joined the school choir and theatre club, adoring the attention it brought her.
A gorgeous witch such as Lyra could hardly escape Hogwarts without having had a boyfriend, and in fact she'd had quite a few by the time graduation had come around. Girlfriends, too. After school, Lyra continued singing and acting. Her parents support her as her singing career isn't enough to pay the bills just yet, but Lyra is adamant about performing and her parents are supportive of her dreams for the time being. OOC |
