'cause lately I've been craving more

Talking with Heath about everything under the sun was such a natural thing for Luce that she had no idea how late it was. She would have happily stayed there all night with him, though that might seem a bit sleazy for the pair of them to rock up at their dorms early on a Monday morning in last night's clothes. It was such a magical night, though, and to top it off, they were taking turns to read her book out loud, and she rested her head on Heath's shoulder as she listened to his voice, calming and steady, gentle but strong. She already knew all of the words he was reading, yet they seemed brand new now that she was reading them with Heath. He made everything, even the mundane, seem more special, more interesting. He was magic.

'cause lately I've been craving more

With a relieved smile, Luce retrieved her book from the ground and took Heath's hand, leading him through the trees. "I'll show you my favourite spot," she said, squeezing between some rose bushes and emerging into an area where the trees were thicker. There was a canopy of pale pink lights overhead, stars from the night sky peeking through where they could. "Did you know that these are Cherry Fireflies?" she said, looking up again. "They grow in the buds of the cherry blossoms and when the flowers bloom, they float out and fill the sky." They would only be around for a few weeks, as long as it took for the blossoms to wilt and die until next year, so this was the only time of year she could enjoy this little magical grove. Lucy paused by one of the larger trees, which had a groove in the bottom the trunk, almost like a little nook. She had a small bag tucked away there with blankets in for chilly evenings, which she pulled out now, spreading a blanket over the grass and sitting down, her back nestled in the nook of the tree. She patted the blanket for Heath to join her.

'cause lately I've been craving more

Heath's hand on the small of her back sent tingles running along Lucy's spine. She felt like she was floating, like a firefly herself, drifting high above the ground amongst the glowing lights, light as a feather and filled with pure bliss. Her fingers moved from his cheekbones, sliding into the golden mess of hair that spilled down around Heath's shoulders. It was like silk beneath her fingertips, and Luce's touch was soft yet confident. She, unlike her cousin Phoebe, was not the type to grab fistfuls of hair in a frenzy of passion, but she wasn't afraid to enjoy the moment, either. The moment that ended all too soon because if she'd have carried on kissing him any longer, she'd have ran out of breath and fainted. That was not the effect she was going for when she was around Heath. She leaned back, just enough to suck in a shaky breath, his hair still entwined in her fingertips. "Wow," she breathed.

'cause lately I've been craving more

Her fingers ran over the petal, and then Heath's fingers ran over hers, making Lucy's breath catch in her throat. As comfortable as she had grown in his company recently, she still had a massive crush on Heath, something she had tried to keep a lid on whenever they spent time together for fear of making a fool of herself. And now here he was calling her stunning. Her feet felt rooted to the spot. If there was a subtle way for her to sink into the leaves under her feet and die, she would have taken it. Alas, she had no escape route, and quite honestly, she didn't want one. She had daydreamed about Heath Scamander fancying her for a good year or more, and to deny herself this moment out of awkwardness would be insane. Luce had no idea what to say without sounding like an idiot. She turned her palm upward, her fingers lacing with his, and tore her gaze from their hands, sucking in another breath of surprise to find him staring at her. He had the most beautiful eyes.

'cause lately I've been craving more

Spring meant the grounds at the castle had burst to life. April had brought with it the cherry blossom trees on the western edge of the gardens. They were one of the lesser known wonders of the castle. Their part of the grounds were tucked away in a little corner of bliss, away from the main gardens that most of the students frequented. Lucy had discovered the little treasure trove of magical flowers and plants in her third year. She had a habit of wandering the castle and its grounds, looking for undiscovered places, things that not many knew about. The cherry blossom grove was one of her favourites. It bloomed every spring with beautiful pink flowers, sparkling magical plants growing around the trees, lighting the place up. But the most magical thing of all were the fireflies. They loved the little quiet corner just as much as Luce did and at night they lit up the trees in their hundreds.

There was a chill in the air, but she didn't feel it as she headed across the grounds for her secret spot, a book tucked under one arm, her wand lighting the way. The sun was setting on the horizon, but curfew was hours away, she was perfectly allowed to be outside for a while and enjoy her own little haven. Reading under the stars, nothing but fireflies to light her way, a bed of pink petals on the ground. She couldn't think of anything she wanted more tonight. Her feet crunched in the grass, boots capable of handling any mud she trod in, and finally reached the grove. It glowed with a beautiful pink hue, the fireflies already out as the sky darkened overhead. Soon the sun would be gone completely, but she had a few minutes to find herself a comfortable spot before it set fully. She wove through the trees, stopping to smell a glowing flower here and there, almost forgetting that she was looking for a place to sit with her book.

'cause lately I've been craving more

"Ever mysterious," Luce commented with a smile. She was getting the impression as time went on that Heath didn't actually mean to be mysterious, it was just that he was a quieter soul. She had always thought of him as kind of enigmatic, hiding behind that curtain of hair, never being overly sociable, but it wasn't in a bid to be cool, he just was cool. It was effortless. She would have let out a dreamy sigh if it wouldn't have been completely mortifying. "I'm staying," she told him, glancing around the room for signs of her cousin. "I'm gonna spend the night with Phoebe, If she ever comes back." She had spotted the tiny brunette leaving the hall a little bit earlier. She had promised to come and find Lucy, but Phoebe was not too great at keeping promises, or remembering that she'd made them in the first place. If she didn't come back, Luce would just find other friends to bed down with for the night.

"Oh, yeah," Lucy nodded her head, surprised that Heath had asked to borrow the book when she was done with it. That was cute and unexpected. "So long as you promise not to fold the corners over on the pages," she added, teasing, but also deadly serious. She couldn't stand seeing books getting damaged like that. It was as though people didn't even care about looking after their property. You wouldn't rub it through a muddy puddle, so why would you bend the pages so they were all gnarly and messed up? It was definitely a pet hate of Lucy's and she really hoped Heath wasn't guilty of doing it. That might just be the thing to put her off him, if there was such a thing. She doubted there was such a thing, to be honest. She popped another piece of chocolate in her mouth.
