She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
The least attractive of the group spoke to her first, bowing awkwardly at her as if he had never interacted with a woman before. She was used to that; Ollie got nervous in the same manner whenever she flirted with him, which was different than the rigidness that overtook his brother when she hit on Kit. He introduced himself, Ant, which inwardly made Dora shudder – she hated ants or any sort of insect, and despite obviously knowing he wasn’t a bug, the name caused the same reaction regardless. So there was Ant, and the silent one who seemed as interested in watching the first bloke fall all over himself as anything else at the party, and then there was Leo SomethingOrOther. He remembered her name. She flashed a toothy grin Leo’s direction, making purposeful eye contact with him for a solid four seconds before looking back to Bug Boy to answer his question. “Who’s Dorian? Is that the birthday bloke?” She lifted her glass a little as she added, “I’m just here for the booze.” And the men. “So you’re all friends with the D-man?” she asked the group, though her eyes were back on Leo and his perfect smile. “That would make you the L-man, and you…?” Dora looked to the third wizard standing there, silent as a rock.

The woman seemed almost startled by the assumption she was waiting for a boyfriend, and Dora sipped on her tea as she watched the woman explain how her sexy older lover was completely business-related. Right. “I won’t tell if you’re hooking up under a desk,” she remarked, mostly to get another rise out of the witch. “What department are you in?”

Mimi was a good dog, but even she left Dora alone at one point to chase off a squirrel that had run up a nearby tree. Dora called the dog to stop barking and Mimi, pleased at her work of defending the house from the vicious wildlife, trotted back onto the porch and curled herself into the crook of Dora’s legs. It had been about ten minutes since her headache subsided, fifteen since she’d calmed down enough to actually take the elixir she had been yearning for since Fin woke her. Dora was looking out over the garden but she saw Fin appear in the doorway from the corner of her eye and she jutted her chin into the air a little higher than she had been holding it before. Dora might have forgotten all about her daughter for a moment, if Fin had not mentioned her. Dora smothered the guilty feeling in her stomach with another sip of champagne before replying “okay.” And then after a moment, “thanks.” Green eyes were still fixed on the landscape but she was more than aware that Fin was still standing there and she chewed on her lip anxiously, waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Toby was good. He was neither earth shattering nor vanilla; he was a nice medium that allowed Dora’s mind to clear of all her baggage for a while, but she could still walk a straight line afterwards. She’d never kick him out of bed, or the shower as it were, but even picturing him as her vampire lover wasn’t enough to send her over the moon. He was a good distraction, if nothing else.
Toby soaped himself up and Dora sat on the little shower bench where she normally would have shaved her legs or stared off into the void. Today she had something to stare at, however, and no matter how middle of the road the sex was, Toby was gorgeous to look at and she happily got an eyeful.

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
The woman pouted, obviously disappointed in missing the silver fox – or whomever she was hoping for – and Dora couldn’t help but think that she looked oddly like a fish at that moment. She was definitely not the sort of witch who could get away with a pout, not like Dora could. Dora curbed her instinct to slap the woman on the face with a roll of parchment to get her to stop making that face, and instead closed the log and tucked it back in its place. Dora shrugged as the woman asked if she could hang around waiting for Eldtritch. It didn’t bother Dora to have someone else there, she was already quite skilled at completely blocking out annoying patrons at the bar, so if this witch got on her nerves she was sure she could handle herself. Dora leaned against the counter, looking at the blonde. “You get stood up?” she asked, wondering why on earth anyone would plan to meet for a date at their office.

Dora raised her eyebrows as an expression of amusement spread over her face. The idea that her little Kitten obsessed over anyone’s arse was highly amusing, mostly because she’d never seen him show a real interest in anyone, other than that New Years Eve when they snogged at midnight. Try as she might, Kit seemed unphased by her advances and she suspected it was because he was either asexual or simply played with himself a lot in private. If forced to picture either, Dora would be hard-pressed not to smirk about the latter. “Is a giant dick, or has one? It’s an important distinction,” Dora said over her glass as her eyes travelled across the room to where Dorcas was gesturing. “Time to make my Kit Kat jealous,” she said with a grin to Dorcas before setting off for the land of single men.
“Some party, huh?” Dora sauntered up to the group of men, interrupting whatever conversation they were having with a confident smile and an extra little wiggle.

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
Shock and second-hand embarrassment faded as Pansy let out an excited squeal and drew Dora’s attention away from Jasper, if only for a moment. She had caught one of her butterflies again, which was apparently spectacular news for the nearly one year old. Leo excused himself and dashed over to where Jasper was now stationed, dragging his nephew along for some photos. Dora laughed as she watched them before the crowd moved in and cluttered her view. “Do you want to go see Jaspy and have your picture taken too, lovey?” she asked in that sort of sickly-sweet baby voice mums were known to use. Dora wasn’t sure where the voice had come from but it seemed to crop up every now and again when she wasn’t preoccupied by work, or friends, or the emotional scars that led to some very dangerous and very exciting activities that left her with real, visible scars. Sometimes she even liked being a mum, though those moments were not often, and seemed to pop up at the most unexpected times. It was easier when she had help, and sometimes just coming home from work and seeing Pans napping was all it took. Other times she felt jealous of the baby for all the attention she was given, and the leisurely lifestyle of having everyone dote on you without expectations. Those moments inevitably led to feelings of shame and disgust with herself, and often she found comfort in secret methods deemed dangerous by others, and thus too taboo to discuss. Even Fin didn’t know her darkest secrets and he knew her better than anyone else had.
Adjusting the tulle on Pansy’s dress, Dora prepared to follow suit and shower Jasper with what was most likely unwanted attention, but before she could even rise from her chair a man appeared in front of her. Her skin prickled with excitement at his presence and her throat became dry as he spoke a single word. “Come.” Dora nodded numbly, a craving rising furiously inside her that had only been a whisper until now. She stood and very nearly stepped away without another thought until Pansy’s happy squeals provided momentary clarity. Green eyes looked around frantically, an urgency welling up inside her the longer she delayed. Dora felt panicked, sick, unsure of what to do until her eyes fell on Clementine. Dora gasped a happy sigh of relieve as she pushed the pram through the crowd toward her friend, nearly smashing the wheels into Clem’s chair. “I have to go. Can you watch her? I need to leave.” The panic in her voice expressed her urgency and Dora was nearly shaking now. If this didn’t work, if Clem said no, what would Dora do? Deep down she already knew the answer and it wasn’t one a parent could say aloud without risking everything, so she ignored it. Giving her friend no real time to answer, Dora shouted apologies to Clementine as she practically ran out of the bookshop, without bothering to say goodbye to anyone, Pansy included.

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
Dora steadied herself with a hand on shower wall, the other reaching behind to find him and bring him closer to her. The warm water fell on them, deafening her ears to anything beyond the luxurious bathroom. She hadn’t asked for clarification on what he’d been doing before joining her, whether Pansy was alright, or even what his original purpose in his visit had been. Forming complete words at that moment seemed like such a rigorous task, and her mind certainly wasn’t up for the challenge. She much preferred being there in the moment with him, letting him turn her body this way and that as he pleased. She enjoyed relinquishing control to him, doing as she was told. This closeness was the only thing missing from her relationship with Hunter but Dora imagined he would command her pliable body in a similar fashion. She braced herself on the wall, picturing the vampire between her legs where Tobias now stood. The image was exciting and she breathed heavy with passion into Toby’s ear.

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
Dora looked up as she was spoken to, the same plastic smile as before making her expression look stiff and lifeless. This wasn’t at all the job she thought she was signing up for. Jovi had promised handsome blokes a plenty and loads of downtime to spend with her cousin who also worked in the building, but mostly Dora just checked people in or gave them directions to the loo. She honestly believed the whole set up could have been shifted to later in the day; what was the purpose in having everyone start their days so early? Couldn’t she come in at 11:30 and do the same bloody job? Apparently not.
“Eldtritch?” Dora stood from her seat, taking her cuppa with her as she moved to the log book. The name didn’t sound familiar but unless there was a particular reason to pay attention, she was mostly moving by muscle memory. Taking a sip of her tea, Dora pulled the cover of the log book open but before her eyes could meet the paper, she cocked her head to the side and looked at the woman. “Is he the silver fox that came in about an hour ago?” she asked, remembering one of the few blokes interesting enough worth recalling. An older gentlewizard with flecks of grey in his otherwise dark hair, clean shaven face, and wearing a suit that Dora would have very much enjoyed ripping off of him. What was that man’s name? Green eyes looked to the log, but nothing even remotely resembling ‘Eldtritch’ was listed today. “Nope, must’ve been some other gent I was eye shagging.” Dora smirked at her own dirty thoughts and took another sip of her tea. "Sorry, love."

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
Tonight’s hostess seemed rather unamused at the entire party, but Dora chalked it up to having had to manage with all the party planning. It was something Dora herself actually loved, and was rather good at, though it was not everyone’s cup of tea. Of course, Dora wasn’t going to pry into the woman’s personal affairs to discover if that really was the case, but who knew where their conversation make take them. Anything had to be better than the last guy she’d been chatting up.
Dorcas asked how Dora had come to be at a party she clearly didn’t fit in with, but that was an easy enough explanation. “I’m Kit’s date for the evening, he fancies me.” That was undoubtedly not the case, but Dora could dream. “Won’t stop me from chatting up a few handsome blokes if they should happen to cross my path, though.” Dora smirked, green eyes giving a playful scan of the party goers. A Lestrange party, typical guest list or not, was not without their attractive faces. Dora could spot a good dozen men she wouldn’t mind stealing off into a guest room with tonight, but at least half of them were playing the part of doting husband, boyfriend, or partner. She had better odds at a larger party but Dora wouldn’t complain if she ended up going home with Kit as planned.

Clearly Kit was stoked about his new co-worker. He had that weird smile on which he nearly always had, at least around Dora, and he was being all awkward and adorable. Dora grinned, though his next words made the glimmer in her eyes die just a bit. Why had she left the Starlight? It wasn’t as though she had much say in the matter, and it was still a sore subject between her and Fin, but while she could hold a grudge like no other, she also knew it wasn’t an attractive look. She shrugged at Kit nonchalantly, “I was just ready for a change, you know? I mean, I really had only taken on the position to help Fin out, but how long could I be expected to be so charitable? And with Pansy needing so much attention…” It definitely wasn’t because her best friend in the entire universe had fired her. Certainly not. Dora straightened up a little more, the twinkle coming back in her green eyes. “But don’t you go getting jealous if you see me smiling at one of the many, many attractive wizards around here. I’m just doing my job.” Though if he caught her in a storage cupboard with someone, that would be a wholly different sort of job.

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
“Level seven, and head left out the lift and all the way down to the end of the corridor. No, wait, right. Head right from the lift.” A wide, plastic smile dropped from her face the moment the wizard walked away, and Dora slumped down into her chair unceremoniously. Her tea had gone cold yet again. Honestly, how hard was it for people just to know where they were going? Dora really felt she oughtn’t need to give every Tom, Dick, and Harry that came in through the Floo directions to locations that were clearly labeled. Now, if someone was wanting the Department of Mysteries that might have been a tad trickier, but really, all these so-called sports fanatics couldn’t even find the Department of Magical Games and Sports on their own? Green eyes rolled up toward the ceiling as she pulled her wand from the garter on her thigh and pointed it at her teacup. “Focillo.” The tip of her wand glowed red then steam began to rise off the liquid in her cup. Dora pulled her skirt up enough to stash her wand away again, just as someone approached the reception desk and Dora sighed into her teacup without looking up at whomever it was that needed directions this time.

His words stunned her and she was frozen silent for a moment, though Pansy continued to wail on her hip. Fin snatched the baby from her arms and it shook Dora’s voice loose. “Fine then! We won’t do it anymore! As if I care!” But she clearly did care, as evident by the liquid pooling in her eyes regardless of the fact that no tears actually fell. He had left the room and Dora turned toward the sink, leaning over it and willing her stomach to settle down and for her head to stop pulsing. Will power was no match for the vampiric hangover she was wrestling with and Dora lurched forward as the meager contents of her stomach were expelled into the sink. Turning the tap on to wash away the sick, Dora stood with her head hung, cool shivers running down the length of her body. A small bark from Mimi nearly made the brunette jump but she moaned softly instead and began to sort herself out. She pulled a pain elixir from the cupboard and grabbed the bottle of champagne that Fin had brought her, then turned and headed out to the back porch, Mimi trotting along behind her.
The afternoon air was chilly but it felt good against her bare legs. Dora sat on the patio sofa and tucked her feet up under herself, pulling the cork from the champagne and taking a drink straight from the bottle. Watching the wind blow around the barren tree branches was rather soothing and with Mimi having climbed up onto her lap for a cuddle, Dora was beginning to feel better.

Excitement radiated off of her as Dora nodded in agreement. “Yes! Isn’t it exciting?” It truly was. Aside from hours, and the lack of alcohol, and modest outfits, and the actual job duties, Dora was very excited about her new position. Jovi had made such a stink about her being too old to still be working at a bar, and of course she’d managed to get Fin to agree, but regardless of how she had ended up in the position, Dora was now looking forward to it. Getting to work with Kit every day would certainly help her rise and shine each morning.

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
Mercifully, Pansy took after her mother in such a way that she was attractive enough to get away with a minor faux pas simply by laughing the event off. Dora was mortified by Pansy’s impressively loud burp but she schooled her features into something more nonchalant as Leo kindly made light of the situation. She wasn’t about to argue with a Healer. “I think the show is about to start.” Dora turned away from the gorgeous man and followed his gaze to a sight she was definitely not prepared for. Jasper, who she knew was going to be here to read stories to the children (for some reason) was in fancy dress. As a fairy. As a girl fairy! Dora’s mouth dropped with a silent laughter that soon turned to empathetic embarrassment. She had to cover her mouth with her hands because she was finding it incredibly difficult to shut her mouth. What on earth was happening? And why didn’t she have a camera at the ready?!
