You like bubbles?" he asked a fancy tailed goldfish as it sucked at the air bubbles that had settled on the inside of the glass. "Ever been to a barn party?" Killian asked, nodding and humming at the fish. "You don't know what a barn looks like? Wow. Your mother is harsh. Well, they're very dry-" Killian was interrupted by Jazzy's booming voice announcing that she was ready to leave. "Does she do that a lot?" he asked the fish, turning as Jazzy made her way into the room and grabbed him. She looked so sexy he'd forgive her making him wait for half a century. He slid his arm around her waist and held on as they whooshed to the middle of Wales, landing outside an old toilet with a big queue outside. "Is this it?" He turned his face away, vaguely aware of the brunette who had hugged him jumping on someone in the pool, but he couldn't see who it was from here, and he wasn't particularly bothered about finding out. "That's what us heroes do, save beautiful damsels in distress" he joked, puffing out his chest, though he still couldn't bring himself to look Halley in the eye just yet. I will be chasing the starlight until the end of my life They'd just settled in to finish the movie when a shrill voice came echoing down the hall from the front door. "Oh, crap!" Killian jumped up off the couch. "Mum's home!" He gave a panicked look at Atti, then grabbed the remote and turned the movie off, pulling the tape out of the machine and throwing it under the couch out of sight. He switched to a sports channel showing golf. Urgh. Killian would rather watch paint dry than watch golf. He didn't have time to look for something else. I will be chasing the starlight until the end of my life "I forgot you were ancient for a minute there." Killian chuckled and shook his head, taking the remote and rewinding the movie to the last thing he remembered seeing. Atticus was right, they didn't need to be talking about girl trouble or anything else, it was movie night, they had good food, and some of it was still sitting on the table begging to be eaten. Killian topped his plate up and settled back to watch the movie, glad he had Atti around to hang out with. He could have done this with his dad, but it would have been more awkward if they discussed the same topics. His dad would have started making lame jokes or something. She looked a bit dazed as she headed for the barbeque, and he followed quietly behind her, meaning to give her a scare, only he didn't get chance. She wobbled, whacking her leg on the corner of the drinks table and heading towards disaster. Killian lunged forwards and caught her arm, holding her up before she could face plant and really embarrass herself. "Cool dance moves," he said, grinning down at her, holding on to her until she was steady on her feet. And just holding on to her because it felt nice to have her so close. Dora was off her face on something. Her finger found his bottom lip and she started complimenting his mouth. Did other people have a favourite lip? Was it weird that he didn't? He'd have to ask Halley about it later. Maybe he'd stare at her lips for a bit and see which one he liked best. He didn't even get a chance to respond to the strange compliment before Dora wandered off towards the pool. "No, I don't think so," he said, his words halted by her lurching forwards and wrapping him in a tight hug. Her hand rubbed his back and she sighed happily. Blinking in surprise, Killian wrapped his arms around her and gave her a light squeeze, wondering if she was drunk. Or if he did actually know her. Had they met before and he didn't remember? Had she remembered him and not told him? He really wasn't sure. Little did he know that she was best friends with his estranged cousin, and she probably vaguely recognized the features he shared with Finley Avery. She pulled back and greeted him properly, and Killian grinned a dazzling grin at her. "Hi again," he said. "I'm Killian." They'd already had a pretty lovely hug, so he felt no need to stick his hand out for her to shake. A piece of rice landed on Killian’s arm and he flicked it off, staring wide eyed at his uncle. ”Say it, don’t spray it!” Killian felt bad for making his uncle nearly choke to death, but Atti recovered quickly, going on to answer the question in a pretty calm manner. Killian nodded along, not really surprised by the answer, though his cheeks burned red when Atti turned the question on him and asked about Halley. ”What? No! I... She...” Huffing, he ran a hand through this hair, which had dried in a silky mess on top of his head. ”She doesn’t see me like that,” he said quietly. ”It’d ruin our friendship if I made a move, and then I’d have nothing.” The thought of losing Halley completely was what kept him from crossing that line with her. He put his empty plate down on the coffee table and tapped his fingers on the arm of the couch, trying his best to hold it in, but eventually it blurted out on its own. She was so bright. Like a tangerine. But a hot one. A hot older one. A hot, older, married tangerine. Killian cleared his throat and forgot all about Halley's drink as he suddenly felt the need to get away from the bar area and tangerine woman. "You know what, I'm gonna go and mingle. I'll catch you later, Dor," he said, giving Dorian another pat on the back before leaving the room and heading through the main part of the house. He passed the front door and peeked into the kitchen from afar to see Halley chatting with a guy. A twinge of jealousy pinched his gut, but Killian pushed it away. His crush on his best friend was ridiculous, he really didn't need to give it any attention. Instead, he focused on the back of a hot brunette in a skimpy outfit as she walked to the pool area and paused. She turned and gave a friendly grin in his direction, and though it probably wasn't aimed at him, Killian grinned back and approached her. Or even juicier, had Atti fooled around with Rom's wife at one point? Nah. Rom and Leila were tight, it couldn't have been her. Maybe whoever had come before her. Now he was talking through a mouthful of food and it just wasn't working, so he focused on chewing while he grabbed the remote to rewind the movie the full two minutes Atticus had missed. He pressed play, swallowed, gulped down some of his drink to put out the flames in his throat, and started piling up a plate with food. "She's the love interest. Killian gave her an approving grin before she left the room, and went back to chatting with Dorian about music choices. "Draconus?" Killian repeated, trying to recall if he'd heard of them before. He scanned through the records for the name, finally spotting an album and pulling it out, looking over the front cover, which showed a symbol of a weird looking dragon. It looked familiar. "I think my dad listens to these," Killian said, recalling Abraxas Vaile boogying around their living room and dragging Corona up for a dance just last week. Killian was sure he saw this album cover sitting on the coffee table. He hadn't paid much attention, but the music hadn't been too bad. He put it on and turned up the volume, nodding his head to the music. "Good choice, Dor. Thanks for the help, man." Killian grinned at Dorian and then noticed that he was standing right next to a bar. "Oh, drinks! You want one?" he asked, bopping towards the bar where a couple were flirting up a storm.
