Atticus felt the soft mud part as his feet landed on the drenched soil of the garden. The usually pristine lawn was one giant puddle. Grey clouds stretched as far as the eye could see, the rain that fell down was heavy and cold, but that hadn’t stopped Atti and his nephew, Killian, from kicking off and having a good quidditch session. The kid may have been all grown up and a professional Quidditch Keeper now, but he was still no match for his Uncle Atti. Sure he’d saved nearly every quaffle that came his way, but that was totally planned by Atti. He’d wanted to keep his nephew’s spirits soaring high. The kid was a good’un and didn’t need his arse whooped by his far superior uncle ...
The rain was getting a bit much for Atti, no doubt Killian could probably have gone on for hours but this wasn’t a competition so when they were in the air, Atti had called to Killy that he was headed in. With Corona and Abraxas out, Atti was going to head straight up to his room and have a warm shower and clean the mess of his drips as he went, but he’d leave his broom by the back door, he could clean it up after he’d got himself sorted. If Corona had been home he wouldn’t have left his broom in the house, he’d have been too scared. She did like to keep a neat and tidy home and there was no way Atti would ever risk pissing her off, she was scary and could easily kick his arse if she wanted.
Running upstairs, taking them two at a time, Atti made his way into his own bedroom and stripped off, dumping his soaking wet clothes into the washing basket in his ensuite. He turned the faucets for the shower and waited for the water to warm up. Once it was warmer than anything outside, he stepped in and instantly began lathering himself up with a pink soap bar he'd been given as a prank gift. Well the joke was on Abraxas because he bloody loved it! And the luffa it came with. Atti didn't mind at all coming out of his showers smelling of roses, although he probably wouldn't be using it all if there was a date involved, or just a random night out. But for staying home with his best bud? No problem! Besides, the chances were that Killy would come out smelling more girly than him, anyway!
After washing his body and hair, Atti turned the shower off. He gave a little playful jiggle to get a few extra drips off and then grabbed a towel as he stepped out of the shower. In no time at all he was dried and dressed and headed back downstairs in his comfies. There was no need to dress up when home, he was fairly certain Abraxas and Corona weren't off on some posh dinner with friends that could end up with them bringing friends home, so he was probably safe to just slum it for the rest of the night.
Atti headed back to his broom and gave it a look over, the rain still coming down heavy outside and it was starting to get darker. It was looking rather ruffled and it was going to need a proper cleaning when he had the time. Admittedly he could have had the time now, but while Killy was home and had a night off, Atti just settled for a few wand waves to clean it up and then headed to the fridge, grabbing out a beer and looking for some snacks, thinking that maybe he should just order some Chinese instead.

 I will be chasing the starlight until the end of my life Flying with Atticus wasn't as challenging as practising with his team, but Killian's uncle was pretty nifty on a broom. He could hold his own up there, though he wasn't as youthful as he used to be. When Killian had been a kid, there was nothing Atticus couldn't do in his eyes. He was a superman, invincible. Killian had so many memories of the two of them getting up to all kinds of mischief and fun adventures together. And now he was closing in on forty and clinging on to the last of his youth. He wasn't as decrepit as Killian's dad. Abraxas was starting to creak when he walked, or so Killian liked to tell him. His dad was a badass, really, an amazing Auror, and not at all creaky, but it was fun to tease him. And Atti. "You big baby!" Killian called, when a little rain scared his uncle off into the house. Killian took his time heading inside, landing in the soggy grass and shaking his wet hair out as he stepped inside the house. Atticus' broom was propped up by the door, muddy and dripping. Killian's mum was going to kill him. Killian had a much smarter idea. He flashed his wand and called some paper towels over from the shelf, then he made them hover under his broom as he carried it through the house and upstairs to his bedroom. Not a drip on any of his mum's pristine floors. Excellent. He was doing okay until he walked in the bathroom and realised that he was out of shower gel. And shampoo. "Ah, crap." He'd have to borrow his dad's. Heading down the obnoxiously long hallway of the obnoxiously large home he couldn't bring himself to move out of, Killian headed into his parents room and through to the en suite. There was a whole wall lined with lotions and potions, and Killian wasted no time throwing his wet clothes on the floor and stepping into their massive shower. He sang loudly to himself as he scrubbed himself clean, grabbing one of the bottles off of the shelf. "Lavender." He gave it a sniff. "Hmm. Not bad." He lathered himself up, and then reached for the first shampoo he could see. His hair felt like silk as he rinsed it off, glancing at the shampoo bottle. Coconut. Nice. Then he grabbed his broom and held it under the flow of the water, rubbing a load of lavender soap on that, too. It was gleaming by the time he'd finished rubbing it down, and he dried it with his wand before rubbing himself down with a towel, leaving it on the bathroom floor and heading back to his room stark naked with a gleaming broom. He loved having time off to just relax at home and see his family. He had underestimated how much being a Professional Quidditch Player would take him away from his life and his routine. He couldn't really have a routine. He hadn't thought it would bother him that much, but he had realised early on that he had actually been in a pretty solid routine for the past seven years at school, and changing that felt bizarre. He would adjust, it was just taking a little while. He appreciated days at home. Dressing in a loose green hoodie and some comfy black sweat pants, he padded barefoot down to the kitchen, finding Atticus raiding the fridge. Killian took the beer out of his uncle's hand and opened it, swigging it before it could be snatched back. "Pizza?" Killian asked, leaning against the counter. He met his uncle's gaze. "Chinese." The pitter-patter of little feet never grew old. Kill would have hated it if Atti still thought of him as a kid, but he did, a smart-arsed, smooth talking kid that could get himself out of any kind of trouble. A kid that could steal his uncle's beer. Ah well. Atti reached back into the fridge and pulled out another beer, one that wouldn't be commandeered by Killian. Atticus nudged the fridge door shit with his foot as Killian leant against the counter after asking about Pizza, "Chinese." He said, the same time as Killian as he uncapped his beer. He grinned and took a swig of his beer, "Get out of my head, man, I've told you, it's no place for the faint of heart." He smirked and took another swig of beer. "What do you fancy then?" He asked, pondering over the menu that he practically knew by heart at this point. He didn't mind a little mongolian beef and some of those dumplings, and even some Peking duck, too. He was practically starved!

I will be chasing the starlight until the end of my life Killian tipped his beer bottle at his uncle and gave him a look. "Occlumency, man," he said with a shake of his head. "I thought you'd have mastered all of this by your age, you're slacking." Killian himself, had been working on Occlumency and Legilimency since he started his seventh year. Taking advanced lessons with Professor Hawkins had really helped him and though he hadn't fully mastered the skill yet, he was well on his way. He was not going use it on his uncle, though. Or his mum and dad. No, thank you. Killian would never want to know the thoughts that ran through their heads, just the stuff that came out of their mouths was traumatising enough at times. Anyway, he was a while off being able to do that, but it was a reminder to keep practising. He turned his thoughts to food, and found himself in a quandary over what to order. "Sweet and sour pork," he answered immediately. "Wait, chow mein." Killian's face scrunched up in turmoil. "Spring rolls?" Basically he was starving and technically still growing. "All three." "Psht." Atti scoffed, "I'm not wasting my time with all that. I'm too busy wooing the fairer sex and letting you win at Quidditch." Killian was more than a good player and they were definitely at the stage now where Atti couldn't stop the kid even if he wanted to, so it was just that little bit less humiliating to purposefully lose, only after giving it a good shot in the beginning, though. Couldn't go into a game with a losing mindset. "Yes! To all of it." Because what they didn't eat now would just get packed away in the fridge and they'd eat it tomorrow for lunch. Atti grabbed a pen and some paper and jotted down what they wanted, "And I'm definitely fancying a little Peking duck." he said, scribbling it down on the list in his terrible handwriting. "If your mum asks, I got us the garlic steamed veggies and we ate the lot." He said, pointing the quill at Killian and then adding veggies to the list, having no intentions of ordering them but they were there, on the list, just in case Corona did any snooping.

I will be chasing the starlight until the end of my life "Wooing the fairer sex?" Killian glanced around the room, making a big show of looking for said fairer sex and finding none. "I haven't seen a woman sneaking out of here for a year or more." He snorted out a laugh, and headed out of the kitchen, weaving his way through the house towards the smaller living room with the obnoxiously large muggle television that his dad had installed in there. "Wanna watch a horror? Thriller? Action?" he bellowed, his voice echoing through the large hallways of the enormous Vaile home. It would reach Atticus eventually, that echo carried for miles. He opened the case of a wholesome kid friendly movie and removed the tape from inside, shoving it in a drawer and leaving the open case on the coffee table for his mum to find. Atti laughed as Killian called him out on not having a woman over in quite some time, "Well your mother put a stop to it all when you were home on a permanent basis, can't have you being exposed to strange women in your home, Merlin knows what ideas you might get." It wasn't all Corona, Abby played a part In it, too. Atticus respected their decisions, though. It was their home and they had a right to keep it how they liked. Atti got note he'd made with the order and sent it via floo to the Chinese place. "Thriller," Atti called back, washing his hands off under some warm water, lathering them up with the soap. Floo was quick, but it was messy. At least the food didn't come back that way, someone apparatus with it, but that was better than when they'd trialed owl delivery. Owl shit on your chow mien was not the way to go. Atti walked out of the kitchen, grabbing his beer. He walked the hall to the living room where he saw a family friendly movie case sitting on the coffee table. He chuckled, shaking his head, "And your mum calls me a bad influence," He made a tutting noise, Corona never really said that, at least not in a mean way. She loved him and he loved her, but he did like seeing his influence on Killian coming to life.

I will be chasing the starlight until the end of my life "I've still got posters of Tia Flawless on my bedroom walls, no women would want to hang out in there with me, don't worry." Halley was the only girl who frequented Killian's home, and she was just part of the family, nobody batted an eyelid when she was around, even if Killian was nowhere to be seen. He'd once walked into the kitchen to find his mum and Halley having dinner together, nobody had even been aware that he was home, or that he might require a plate of food. His mum was probably more worried that he only ever seemed to be with Halley and didn't have a girlfriend yet. He knew she was desperate for him to declare that he would be married with a kid on the way by the time he was twenty five, but it wasn't going to happen. His career was just taking off and he had years of fun and freedom ahead of him, his mum would just have to wait. It was funny that she had put a ban on Atticus having women over though, Killian would have to have a word with her over that one, not that it would do any good, she was as stubborn as a mule. He sank into the couch cushions after popping on one of the newest thriller movies he hadn't had a chance to see yet. He didn't bother asking his Uncle's opinion on the choice, Atti could just suck it up and watch whatever. Killian had been so busy lately that it was surely a privilege for his family to get to spend a bit of quality time with him. That, or they enjoyed the peace and quiet when he wasn't home. He had considered getting his own place, but honestly, the Vaile estate was so enormous that he really didn't need any more space, he had plenty. A family of twenty could have lived there and not been under each other's feet, never mind a family of four. And a handful of pets. Speaking of pets, Apollo, Killian's owl, had been struggling to get used to living at the estate full time instead of the castle. He kept shitting on Killian's bedroom window ledge and Killian was sure it was done on purpose, the spiteful arsehole. "You're not a bad influence," he muttered to Atti, distracted now that he was thinking about all the bird droppings he needed to clean at some point over the weekend. "Nothing wrong with a Tia Flawless poster or two." Atticus laughed, "Now if you had twenty up in there, that might be an issue." Back in the day Atti had posters up of attractive women, as well as a calendar, but that didn't look too great when you brought a woman home and needed to set the mood, not that there was any of that going on, if he wanted to bring a woman home he'd rather take her to a hotel than risk bringing crazy back to the house, and there definitely some good crazies out there.
Atticus missed what movie Killian put into the VCR but it didn't matter too much, old or new, Atticus was a fan of the thriller genre, and horror, and just about everything really. Secretly he didn't mind a little Disney here and there, he was a guy that liked to like things. "Atta boy!" He said, raising his beer to his nephew, "See, you get it." He said with a chuckle before ehe took a sip. Corona only ever wanted what was best for her son, he was the last blood relative she had that hadn't shunned her so Atti got why she was so protective of him, even if no one said anything out loud.

And the bikini shot in the bathroom?" Atticus was probably right, it might be time to grow up a bit and only have one or two posters on his walls instead of a million in hidden locations all around the room. That kind of thing was Hogwarts style behaviour. He was a man now, an adult with a real job, his dream job, no less. He should start making sure his personal space represented that. No more cheesy teenager, it was time for a bedroom makeover. His mum would be ecstatic, she loved decorating. Killian could probably just tell her what he wanted and leave her to it and she'd do a better job of it on her own than if she had a team of helpers. The doorbell rang, interrupting his thoughts, and Killian spoke in a rush. "Bagsy not it." "As long as they're in a seperate location, they're probably fine." He chuckled, although he made a mental note to check Killian's wardrobe the next time he was in the kids room. He assumed that Killian was joking but sometimes you could just never tell with that guy, he had a dry humour from time to time, but that thoughtful look seemed all too real. The door bell rang, "Bagsy not it!" He was a split second behind Killian and he let out a playful growl of disappointment. "Alright, alright, make the old guy get it. I understand." He said, feigning a cough as he stood, "So frail." He laughed before heading to the front door, returning moments later with the most delicious smelling food known to all humankind - Chinese.

I will be chasing the starlight until the end of my life Rolling his eyes dramatically at Atticus' antics, Killian made sure the coffee table was clear so that they could spread their feast out on it. He moved his beer to the edge of the table when Atticus returned, and helped to set everything up, completely forgetting to pause the movie for his uncle. He was too busy trying to grab a spring roll and stuff it into his mouth without burning himself. He was unsuccessful. Blowing on his fingers, he frowned. "Hey, should you be eating all of this?" he asked. "You know, in your condition. Are you sure you don't want a salad or something?" Killian's sharp wit came in to play again. It was always a delight for Atti to be around his nephew as it always reminded him of himself at that age, although Killian didn't have as much luck with the ladies, but Atti wouldn't hold that against him, he was a bit of an odd looking kid from ages 0 to 17. "I'm old, not pregnant, I think I'll survive some chow mein." Atti chuckled, waving his wand as the plates came flying from the kitchen, forks and spoons following shortly after, settling in the spaces on the coffee table, "Oi, go back." Atti said, pointing to the move, "I've missed something here, who's she?" he said, dishing out a good helping of peking duck onto his plate.

I will be chasing the starlight until the end of my life "It's very inconsiderate of you not being pregnant," Killian said, still burning his tongue off trying to maul a spring roll as Atticus called for some plates. "It's the least you could do, carry on the Vaile name. Take the pressure off of me." Now he was talking through a mouthful of food and it just wasn't working, so he focused on chewing while he grabbed the remote to rewind the movie the full two minutes Atticus had missed. He pressed play, swallowed, gulped down some of his drink to put out the flames in his throat, and started piling up a plate with food. "She's the love interest. She's gonna distract Tom Crows, then turn out to be the bad guy. Atti laughed, quite loudly. Him? Have kids? Take the pressure off of Killian over the Vaile name? Hell no! He was not the kind of guy that was ever going to settle down and have kids. He was a free spirit that loved the ladies. He always figured that the right lady would someday come along and yeah, he'd want to settle down with her and have kids, but he was starting to believe that that was never going to happen, and so his mindset was changed, he was all about pure fun.
With food all piled up and ready, the movie rewound, Atti sat back and watched the movie, "Eh." He said with a nod, stuffing food in his mouth while paying attention to the movie and Killian's theory, "Hot babe like that?" He said, pointing at the TV, "She's definitely going to screw him over." Atti went back to his beer, "Probably with the best mate." Well, whatever happened, Atti was going to enjoy the good food, good beer and good movie.
