If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun
The bell over the door chimed, notifying the staff that a customer was entering or exiting. A few heads turned in his direction, but no one really took notice. He wasn’t famous by any stretch of the imagination, and only the most dedicated Falmouth Falcons fans would have any idea who he was by his face alone. That was alright by Ollie. He liked the attention his mediocre fame brought him on occasion, but he had all too often observed some of the star players being mauled by paparazzi, hounded for autographs and photos with squealing fans. That didn’t seem like the life he wanted. Sure, sometimes it was nice to throw around a “do you know who I am?” but on the whole, that wasn’t really in Ollie’s nature.
As the attention of the guests returned to their own browsing, Oliver stepped further into the quidditch shop and let the door fall shut behind him. The bell rang again as the door fell into the frame and fit snuggly. “What’ve ya got in today, Rex?” he asked, his chocolate eyes flash over to the man behind the counter as Ollie made his way to the wall of quidditch brooms on display. The new Shooting Star wasn’t set to come out for another month. The Royal Rocket 400 had been released nearly six months ago. There wasn’t much excitement to expect from today’s venture into the quidditch shop, but he’d crashed into a fence while flying the other day and busted his practice broom up pretty well. He could still use it, if need be, and the team would of course have several top of the line available for team practices, but Ollie was bored and this was as good an excuse as any to get out of the house for a bit.
Rex drew his wand and pointed it at a cherry colored broom hanging on display near the ceiling. “This one’s nice. Sturdier than your last one, but a bit more drag.” He passed the broom over to Oliver who weighed it in his hands and turned it over to examine it. The door bell chimed once more as Ollie inspected the seat of the broomstick.

Golden Snitches Get Stitches As much as she was thrilled at getting a spot on the Appleby Arrows, and as much as she enjoyed the brand new perks that came with her new job, Echo still had to polish her own broom, and if that didn't keep her grounded, she didn't know what would. The team were provided with all of the best brooms and equipment for training and matches, they were given access to all of the behind the scenes areas at matches they weren't playing in, as well as super expensive boxes with the best view of the pitch. They were paid handsomely, though Echo was yet to see her first paycheck at the end of the month, she was pretty sure she wouldn't know what to do with money of her own. Best of all, they were left to their own devices outside of training and games. She could live at home with her mum, she could see her friends, and conduct her life in the same old way so long as she showed up when they needed her. And she had to polish her own broom. It was magnificent. Better than magnificent, it was more normal than she had imagined. The glitz and glamour was minimal so far, and she definitely preferred that. Echo was not a glitzy person. She pushed open the door to Quality Quidditch Supplies and smiled to herself at the familiar jingling of the bell. She had been flying since she was tiny - not that she was gigantic now, she was still only a few inches over five feet - and coming into this shop was as comforting as going into Honeydukes for her, and Honeydukes was like her second home. She trailed her hand over a display of new Beaters bats that was near the door, her fingers brushing lightly over the dark wood, and gripping firmly onto the handle of one as she picked it up and gave it a test swing. It didn't feel as good as her current bat when she held it, but it had that new gleam to it that just begged to be appreciated. Putting the bat down, she moved further into the shop and paused at the end of the aisle when she saw Rex, the shopkeeper, showing a broom off to a customer. It wasn't just any customer, though. It was Ollie Devereaux. Echo was good friends with the Devereaux girls, and so she knew their older brothers by association, seeing them occasionally if she'd visited Sera and Roma at home during summer holidays over the years. Kit was the eldest, an Auror, and a really nice guy, and then there was Ollie, who Echo had had quite the crush on for a while now. Nobody knew, of course, Sera and Roma would never let her hear the end of it if they knew she fancied their brother, but how could anyone not fancy him? He had that luscious long hair, and those dark chocolate eyes. He was gorgeous. And he was a Falcon. And he was a nice guy, fun, happy, decent. Normal. She hadn't seen him for a while, but she was comfortable enough in his presence to at least say hello if they ran into each other. There was no way she would be so rude as to just pretend she hadn't seen him. Besides, he was standing right near the broom polish, she really couldn't avoid him if she wanted to get what she had came for. "Devereaux," she said, crossing to him and pausing by his side to admire the broom he was looking at. "Nice broom."_______________________ tag: Oliver Osiris Devereaux /open words: 625 notes: <3 outfit: Something comfy. template by izzy [googlefont="Over the Rainbow"]

If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun
Turning the broom over in his hands, Ollie got the feeling that this just wasn’t the right broom for him. He liked something with a little more weight to it and this felt too flimsy. He would definitely smash this one to bits if he ran into another fence, and you’d think that a professional quidditch player wouldn’t have that sort of trouble, but Ollie liked to goof off whenever he was off the pitch, so this sort of thing wasn’t really out of the ordinary for him. Perhaps instead of a new broom he would just get a few items to repair his mildly damaged broom at home. Or he could get both and start hoarding brooms like a nutter.
The sound of gentle footsteps approaching didn’t draw Ollie’s attention as people often moved about shops, crossing paths and moving closer or farther away from him. He hadn’t even paid the sound of movement enough mind to notice that the footsteps had come straight up to where he stood, until the petite blonde was standing next to him and spoke his name. Merlin have mercy, it was a good thing he wasn’t a seeker – he’d be absolutely rubbish at noticing anything. Echo greeted him casually, but Ollie was hardly one for subtlety. With wide eyes and a big ole grin on his face he gave off the impression of being absolutely star struck. “Merlin’s beard,” he said loud enough for the other patrons to hear, causing them to look his way. “Echo Everwood? The newest beater for the Appleby Arrows?! I’m your biggest fan! Can I have your autograph?” There was a small murmur from some of the interested customers, and a few who tried to peer around display shelves to get a look at the pro-quidditch player amongst them. A young girl with braids in her hair tugged on her father’s robes and pointed at Echo excitedly.
Echo was a cool witch. Ollie had met her on a number of occasions as she was friends with his younger sisters and he wasn’t above noting – to himself – that she was also smoking hot. Sera had mentioned that Echo was joining a professional team and he was only offended for a quick minute that she hadn’t told him herself, seeing as how he was also technically a pro player. His gigantic ego deflated easily of its own accord. Ollie hadn’t seen Echo since he had heard the news, so of course he had to make a big deal over it.
His volume returning to normal, he smirked, pleased with himself for making an ass out of himself. “Hey, Everwood. How’s grown up life treating you?” Still holding the broomstick in his hands, he began spinning it absentmindedly as he looked at Echo, awaiting her reaction to his completely chill greeting. Rex halted his movements by taking hold of the broom and giving a stiff smile before replacing it on the display wall, only mildly annoyed that he’d not made a sale. The day was young. “Sorry, Rex,” Ollie said with a sheepish grin.

Golden Snitches Get Stitches His reaction was definitely not what she had expected, and Echo would have turned red if she were the type to do so. Not one to blush easily, she was grateful for it as embarrassment rushed through her. She wanted to hide somewhere just for a moment while she figured out how the heck to handle the situation, but there was nowhere to hide, so she had no option other than to keep her cool and try and ride it out. People were whispering and staring. Was this what she had to expect from now on? The more games she played, the more recognisable she would become, she supposed it would be the natural progression of things. It didn't feel good. It felt weird. She cleared her throat, squaring up to Ollie and feigning confidence for all she was worth. "Sorry, Ollie-O, I don't have a quill on me," she said, focusing on his face instead of the other customers around the shop who were still being nosy. "I'll owl you a personalised picture instead." She would do no such thing, especially since she now had worries flooding her mind about whether that line might be construed as flirting. For Merlin's sake. The other shoppers went back about their business after a minute, and Ollie dropped his act, to Echo's relief, though she couldn't help but smile at his playfulness. Him asking how life was seemed so mundane compared to the cheekiness of two minutes ago. "Great," she answered enthusiastically, distracted by him twirling his broom with incredible grace and balance. Rex didn't seem to appreciate Ollie's skill and took the broom from him, and Echo turned away quickly, trying to hide how much of a trance she'd been in whilst watching him. She reached out for a small tub of broom polish from the nearest shelf, checking the label to make sure it was the right one before turning back to Ollie. "I need to know, though," she held up the tub of polish. "You've been in the game for a few years now... Do you still have to polish your own broom?" She tilted her head at him curiously. If anyone would have some tips or hints for her, it would be Ollie. She had her new teammates, but she still didn't know them well enough to feel comfortable going to them with daft questions. Ollie was her friends' brother, he was a safe person to ask. She hoped. _______________________ tag: Oliver Osiris Devereaux /open words: 435 notes: <3 outfit: Something comfy. template by izzy [googlefont="Over the Rainbow"]

If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun
No quill on her? What sort of celebrity was she? Ollie grinned at her confidence, not recognizing any hint of embarrassment that his display might have caused. She was too even keel for that. Most people would consider that a positive thing, but it meant that Ollie would struggle to find the line with her between having fun and being a tit. Not that they really ever saw enough of each other for Ollie to really make an arse of himself repeatedly like that. Well, now that they were on opposing teams he might see her a fair bit more, but he tried to rein in his personality while on the job. He was not well-loved enough to get away with being a wanker in public and still holding favor in the eyes of society. He didn’t really want to get to that point, either.
As Rex snatched the broomstick from Oliver’s hands, Ollie caught Echo’s reaction. Sort of. He gave a short laugh, running his now free hand through his long mop of hair as the apples of his cheeks tinged pink. Thinking Echo was laughing at him (though being nice enough to turn away and not laugh right in his face) he shuffled his feet and looked elsewhere around the shop until she spoke again. He took the tub of broom polish from her and read over the label as she began her questioning. “Only when I’ve not got a date…” he said in a relaxed yet humorous manner, obviously making a joke but having very little wherewithal about him to recognize what sort of joke he had just made and to whom.
It hit him suddenly and a new wave of embarrassment rushed over him. “No… What I mean to say is… Umm…” He stumbled over his words as he quickly tried to replace the broom polish on the shelf, his lanky arm knocking over a whole pyramid shaped stack of polish that was on display. “Bollocks,” he groaned under his breath as he tried frantically to right the display that was spilling all around their feet. Turning up the few jars still rolling about on the shelf before they fell, he wasn’t in time to keep the majority of the display from falling. At least he’d not drawn Rex’s attention again, yet. At the rate he was going, Ollie was going to get himself banned from one of his favorite shops. Kneeling close to the ground and shoveling the containers into his arms, Oliver avoided making eye contact with his sisters’ friend. Oh Merlin, what if she told them?! He was never going to hear the end of it. Then Kit would join in. This was a bloody nightmare.

Golden Snitches Get Stitches Nope. Nope, nope, nope. Not a safe person to ask after all, or so it turned out. Ollie's off the cuff remark seemed to take even himself by surprise, and Echo pursed her lips with a few slow nods of her head as she considered his words and how the heck she was meant to respond. "No, no," she allowed. "That's a fair point." It took him a second or two to realise what he had said, and then he began to stumble over his words, trying to rescue the situation, but only making it worse by knocking the entire shelf of broom polish over. Why in Merlin's name he had put hers back on the shelf to begin with she didn't even know, but now every other tub of the stuff was rolling across the floor, and she dropped to her knees to try and help him gather the pots up, crawling a little way away to chase after a stray tub before it rolled into the next aisle and tripped someone over. Nobody had noticed Ollie's mishap so far, so if they could keep it that way, that would be preferable for Echo, and Ollie. Unless he liked the attention. Did he like the attention? She didn't really know him well enough to know. His sisters always talked of him being funny and liking to joke around, but they'd never really complained about him being a spotlight hog or attention seeker. No, from the way he was scrambling around to snatch up the fallen pots of polish, he definitely didn't want anyone to see what he had done. He had gone from super slick, spinning that broom in one hand like it was the easiest thing in the world, to wrecking the place, all in the space of half a minute. Echo wasn't sure why his comment had sent him so crazy, but he really didn't have anything to feel panicked about. It was funny. At least that was how she saw it. She enjoyed a bit of banter or a good joke, even if it was a teensy bit inappropriate. Inwardly, she had laughed. A lot. She really wanted to laugh right now, but that might have been a bit mean, so she focused on helping, instead. Stray tub of broom polish in one hand, she crawled back across the dirty shop floor towards Ollie, grabbing a few more tubs as she went and lifting her head to look at him. His hair had fallen across his face in a mop of dark silk, and she stared for a second, just watching him on her hands and knees as he scooped a huge armful of polish back on to the shelf they had tumbled from. He was so beautiful, even when he was being a clumsy idiot. She swallowed, blinked. "I'm sure there's a joke about you getting girls to crawl around the floor for you, but I don't want to make you set the shop on fire or anything," she said with a wry smile as she placed her own stash of runaway tubs back on the shelf, flipping her hair over her shoulder and brushing her hands on her jeans to try and get rid of the dust that was clinging to them off the shop floor. This place really needed a deep clean. It was a good job she was used to getting dirty and being covered in questionable crap. Some girls would be crying that their clothes were ruined. Hell, some girls would have just stood there and let him clean his own mess up. Her sisters sprung to mind, instantly. Aeon would help, depending on what she was wearing. If it was anything nice, she would just apologise and step to one side. Nova wouldn't crawl on the floor unless she was drunk and it was for naughty purposes. Or for sober naughty purposes. Just any naughty purposes, really, or it just wasn't worth ruining clothes for. Echo was definitely the odd one out with her sisters, but she liked it that way. They couldn't all be girly or proper, that would just be boring, and who would drive their mum crazy with muddy footprints in the kitchen if Echo wasn't around? Nobody. It would be dull and nobody liked dull. Ollie certainly wasn't dull, if the last five minutes were anything to go by, and Echo felt comfortable with him, despite his slightly scatty ways. It kind of just made him more adorable. Not that she would ever admit it to anyone. That hair, though. The way it swished as he moved, the sunlight shining on it making it gleam with chocolate highlights that were just begging to have her hands run through it and... Damn. _______________________ tag: Oliver Osiris Devereaux /open words: 819 notes: <3 outfit: Something comfy. template by izzy [googlefont="Over the Rainbow"]

If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun
Stacking the pots of polish he’d collected into a sort of pile on the shelf, Echo brought the remainder to him. On hands and knees no less. And then she made a joke about it. Merlin on a muffin, had his face caught on fire? It felt like his face was on fire! His cheeks had turned red, but he tried to laugh off the inappropriate joke because else was there to do about it? Actually set the shop on fire? No thank you. “Yeah, ‘cause then where would I go to make an arse of myself in front of my sisters’ friends? Zonko’s?” He fake-thought about it for a second then nodded. “Yeah, Zonko’s could work.” Pushing the embarrassment that he felt down beneath the surface, Ollie took the last of the jars from Echo in a more casual manner than he thought he could pull off and set them on the display he’d created. It wasn’t a very good display. Instead of an organized pyramid it looked something like a toddler’s first attempt at making a castle with their building blocks; a big asymmetrical blob that got taller toward the middle-ish part.
Broom polish returned to the shelf, though not nearly as nice of a display as it had once been, Oliver took a dramatic step away from the shelf. “I was never here,” he said with a wink, followed by a charming smile as he ran his fingers through his long hair that had fallen in his face when he was crawling around on the floor. “Well, Everwood, I think I’ve done enough damage here for one day. Have a good one.” He gave a small wave and skirted around the little witch with braids in her hair that had been looking at Echo since he’d made a scene about her being a professional quidditch player. It seems the girl had come to ask Echo for an autograph, and it was the perfect excuse for Ollie to get the hell out of dodge before he really mucked things up.
Sneaking out of the shop without Rex seeing him was easy enough, since the shopkeep was speaking with another customer showing off some expensive helmets and pads. The alley was bright outside and Ollie shielded his eyes from the sun until they adjusted. Looking back through the window he could see the little quidditch fan offering a book and a quill up to Echo, though he couldn’t see what the book was he suspected it had something to do with quidditch or the Arrows. Her father surely wouldn’t let her ruin just any old book with an autograph of a future star. Ollie groaned to himself. Echo, even if she didn’t end up being a star player, was still someone he’d be seeing again, as would his sisters. There was no escaping the buffoon he’d made of himself in front of her but he could at least try to minimize the damage. He didn’t know Echo well enough to know whether she would blab about his clumsiness and inappropriate joke and it wasn’t as though he had left her with a stunning impression of himself afterwards to soften the blow. Sera and Roma were going to have a field day with this. He needed to make things right, or at least less awkward, before leaving. Looking down the alley, he spotted the ice cream shop and decided a nice cone might make Echo feel less inclined to tell his sisters what a creep he’d been. She was busy with signing autographs and whatever shopping she’d come into the shop to do that day, so Ollie headed down the way to grab a cone with plans to wait outside the quidditch shop to make amends.

Golden Snitches Get Stitches Ollie had made himself a fine... fortress? It could pass for a fortress. If you tilted your head the right way and squinted. The display was nowhere near as neat as it had been moments ago, but now it had character, and Echo thought it looked just fine, especially for a magical shop. She had grown up with the best of the muggle and magical worlds, and had enough experience with both to know that it was the Muggle shops that were meant to have boring displays and uniform lines of products. The shops in the wizarding communities were much more crooked and creative and fun, much more "stack your broom polish like a fortress of doom". Zonko's would probably be much more suitable for messy shelves, if Ollie wanted to wreck a place. She grinned at him as he backed away from the display, claiming that he was never there. Echo narrowed her eyes at him playfully and leaned in to whisper. "I saw you," she teased, giving him a mischievous smile as he made his exit, looking like he couldn't wait to get out of there. Chuckling to herself, she raised her hand in a tiny wave, and found someone tugging at her sleeve. A tiny girl with wide eyes and a book in her hands that was nearly bigger than her was standing in front of Echo, looking nervous and excited. Crap. Ollie's earlier little show hadn't been as brushed under the carpet as Echo had wanted it to be. She wanted it deep, deep under a heavy rug, yet here it was staring up at her, asking for an autograph. Why in Merlin's name this kid didn't pester Ollie first was beyond her, he had been playing with the Falcons for a while now, though she'd heard that he didn't like the attention fame brought with it, and tried to avoid it if he could. Ha. Not if Echo had anything to do with it, she would get him back for this one day, even if it was way off in the future. He would have the spotlight of doom shine upon him yet, and she would be cackling in the sidelines. Or something like that. It would really depend on an opportunity presenting itself at the right time, but she could hope. She took the quill from the little girl and signed the book she was offered, not bothering to check what the book was. It was out of a Quidditch shop, it was bound to be relevant, but she felt awkward, and though she tried her best to give the girl a warm smile, she could feel herself cringing just a bit as she realised that she hadn't actually practised an autograph yet. She couldn't exactly just put her signature on it, that was a dodgy move, so she made up some sort of fancy swirl with two large E's as the focal point, thanking her lucky stars that she was artistic and could make something look half pretty in a pinch. The girl thanked her profusely, over and over again, and Echo gave a gentle tug on one of the kids braids, telling her that it was lovely to meet her, and holding her smile until the girls father had pulled her away and out of the shop. Echo let out a breath she hadn't realised she had been holding. This was weird. This was the life she had chosen, the life she had dreamed of, minus the fame, and she was just going to have to get used to it if she wanted to live her dream. Cheeks tingling with embarrassment, she turned and winced when she realised that she still needed to buy some polish. Her fingers moved gingerly towards the tin right at the top of the fortress, and she plucked it up as slowly as she could, the entire display wobbling precariously before settling again. She backed away slowly, and then made a break for it, speed walking to the counter to pay. Her little tin was put into a bag for her, and she was out of there, keeping her head down as she made her way through the shop, past other people who gave her curious glances, and then out into the fresh air. It was still warm for early September, and she enjoyed the sun on her face as she tucked her purchase into her bag, and raised her head to glance up and down the Alley. She didn't really need to buy anything else, but she had as much free time as she might want to look around the other shops and maybe treat herself to something tasty, too. _______________________ tag: Oliver Osiris Devereaux words: 807 notes: <3 outfit: Something comfy. template by izzy [googlefont="Over the Rainbow"]

If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun
Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour was busier than Ollie had expected to find it for a September day. Students had already returned to Hogwarts and the season had changed, what on earth were all these people doing here? He stood in the queue for several minutes, waiting as the couple of groups ahead of him ordered in turn. Finally, it was his turn and when Mr Fortescue asked him what he would like, Ollie froze. What flavor of ice cream would persuade Echo to forget the incident in the quidditch shop had ever happened? What flavors did she like? Did she even like ice cream? Yes, of course she did. Everyone likes ice cream, and besides, Ollie and Kit had both accompanied their sisters and Echo to this very shop on a previous occasion some time ago. So, yes, she liked ice cream but what sort was he planning to order her? “Er… hang on,” he said apologetically, “let me just –” Oliver grabbed a waffle cone from the stack on Fortescue’s side of the counter and dashed out the front door, not bothering to pay much attention to the shocked words directed at him from the shop owner.
The sun was still bright as he stepped into the street, but his eyes didn’t take as long to adjust as he’d not been in the ice cream parlour long. Feet carrying him towards the quidditch shop, Ollie zig-zagged through the light crowd until blonde hair and bright eyes caught his attention. Skidding to a stop in front of her, he panted lightly from the jog and gave a big, toothy smile in her direction. “I should apologize,” he started, the empty ice cream cone hidden behind his back. “I’m usually much more awkward around people and that in there,” he used his free hand to gesture to the quidditch shop behind her. He made a scrunched up expression with his face, showing he wasn’t pleased with how he’d acted with her. “Anyway, I thought I could bribe you to forget about all that and pretend we just had a normal greeting. No need to bring my sisters into this, if you know what I mean. Let me treat you to an ice cream.” Offering her the empty ice cream cone, he grinned. “It’s not invisible, you have to order what flavor you want.” He shrugged, then added, “If you want to.”

Golden Snitches Get Stitches The Magical Menagerie was calling to her after a few moments of scanning the shops nearby, and Echo was always eager to wander around in there, having a good stroke of all of the animals. There were signs up inside saying do not touch, but she always ignored them, unless something looked like it might bite her hand off. You never knew with magical creatures, they could be unpredictable, but there was sure to be an abundance of cats that would love a good scratch behind the ear. She had been desperate for a pet of her own her entire life, but her eldest sister had so many allergies, it had never been possible. She was used to an animal free house, if you didn't count the books spilling over in her mum's study, which were all creature based, since both her parents were animal mad. It was ironic, really, to love something so much but live a home life free of it. Echo would change that as soon as she moved out. She wanted a dog. A dog that would cuddle her all day and night if she wanted, and one that would travel with her and be so chilled and not at all bothered by the Quidditch lifestyle. Future dreams in her head, she headed for the pet shop, only getting a few steps in before Ollie Devereaux skidded to a halt in front of her, and dazzling her with a smile that made her forget where she had been going. She stopped dead in her tracks and stared up at him, blue eyes wide as she listened. He wanted to bribe her with ice cream so that she would pretend she hadn't seen his blunder in the Quidditch shop. If she wanted to. Did she want to? She always wanted ice cream, that much was easy, but did she want ice cream with Ollie? Was the sky blue? Of course she wanted ice cream with Ollie, he was adorable. The uncertain look on his face and the empty ice cream cone just made her laugh, and she took it from him, expression incredulous. "Please tell me you didn't just steal a cone from Fortescues," she laughed, glancing down the street towards the ice cream shop. Could you just buy an empty cone? She'd never tried or asked, maybe you could, but she would certainly prefer it to have ice cream inside, and so she nodded her head down the street. "I want to," she smiled. Turning, Echo kept hold of the empty cone and headed down the street with Ollie, glancing up at him as she walked. "You know I had to sign an autograph in there after you left," she said, the look she gave him half mortified, half accusatory. "You might have to lace the ice cream with some sort of memory modifying potion to get me to forget, because that was uncomfortable." She was still smiling, but there was definite truth in her words, and she wanted to make sure he knew that he'd need to work a bit harder if he wanted her to keep secrets from his sisters. She was no gossip, but her loyalty was with the Devereaux girls, and keeping hilarious and awkward experiences from them wasn't something she'd usually do, especially if their brother was involved. Not that this type of thing happened often. Or at all. Despite her earlier embarrassment, she kind of wished it would happen more, but that might have been more to do with getting to oogle Ollie, than enjoying the dramatics. _______________________ tag: Oliver Osiris Devereaux words: 620 notes: <3 outfit: Something comfy. template by izzy [googlefont="Over the Rainbow"]

If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun
Echo’s laugh was lovely, and the way her smile brightened her entire face was something to behold. He wondered if her boyfriend would be upset by his asking her to an ice cream date, not that it was a date but a trip to the ice cream parlour between two people. Talking would be involved. Definitely nothing romantic. He’d already mentioned his dick indirectly to her, he didn’t need to go and actually hit on his sisters’ friend. Plus she probably had a boyfriend and they both would think him a creep for hitting on her. Not that he was hitting on her. But if he did. Which he wasn’t. She was hot, though.
“Erm…” Ollie turned and gave a quick look back at Fortescue’s, then to the empty cone, then to Echo. “I might have. Accidentally. Sort of.” He grinned. “Stop being cheeky and let me buy you a cone. You know, a full one.” Echo agreed and the pair headed down the alley together. She mentioned having to sign an autograph, which Ollie had secretly witnessed but he played ignorant and widened his eyes I surprise. “Did you? That’s good practice for when you’re famous. You should be thanking me, Everwood.”
They weaved through the crowd and up to the door of the ice cream shop, which Ollie held open for Echo then followed in behind. The stood in the queue, only having to wait behind one other person before it was their turn to order. Upon stepping up to the counter, Mr Fortescue gave Ollie a disapproving look. He looked between the witch and wizard, then to the empty waffle cone in Echo’s hand. “Are you planning to pay for that?” he asked. “Sure am,” he said, half apologetic and half cocky. It was a strange mix that Ollie had perfected over his many years as a good hearted goof ball. “Whatever flavor this one wants.” Ollie looked to Echo, waiting for her to pick a flavor. “Oh, and throw in some memory modification toppings, would’ya? Chocolate flavored, if you’ve got it.” He gave Echo a wink as Fortescue gave a puzzled look.

Golden Snitches Get Stitches Echo hadn't thought she was being cheeky, but his comment on it made her smile, because she knew all too well that she could be very cheeky when she wanted. And in the right company, her playful side knew no bounds. She did try to hold it back sometimes, but subtlety and tact weren't really things she was known for, she was more a speak first, think later kind of girl. She hadn't done anything of the sort around Ollie so far, but there was still time, especially if they were going to have ice cream together. "Well, you could just buy me an invisible one, but I'd probably end up stealing some of yours instead," she allowed as they walked, wondering what kind of flavour Ollie would get. She didn't picture him as the vanilla type, and there were a few others that were just too boring for a fun person like him. He seemed like such a sherbet personality, colourful and interesting, with a little bit of a kick, but she would just have to wait and see. "Of course," she said with some sarcasm as she swirled the empty cone around in the air and did a dramatic bow. "Thank you, kind, wonderful Oliver. I'm forever in your debt." More like forever thinking of ways to get revenge, but that could wait until after ice cream. Her sweet tooth was more important than pettiness. Echo entered the ice cream parlour ahead of Ollie, not missing the nice touch of him opening the door for her and letting her go first. The Devereaux boys seemed to have been raised to have lovely manners, especially Kit, as far as Echo had seen. He was always kind and polite, and had this aura about him that just made her feel safe. She didn't know what it was, but Ollie had a hint of it about him, too. Sera and Roma lacked it, but they were still very young. It might have just been a male thing, their dad was a good man as far as Echo knew, it made sense that he would raise his sons right. They seemed to be more sociable than their dad, though, which was a relief. Echo had never seen him outside of his home when she was visiting, he was quite the recluse. Echo didn't understand how anyone could be like that, she needed nature and the sun to make her feel refreshed and alive every day. Old Florean scanned the scene before him when they reached the counter, and Echo felt a tiny bit awkward as she stood there holding the stolen cone. Ollie apologised, but he sounded far too bright about it. She gave him a look, but Florean seemed to be happy enough, and proceeded with their order. Echo already knew what she wanted. "Raspberry fudge swirl, please," she smiled at the man who knew her face well from her many visits to the venue. She reached up and handed him the cone, chuckling at Ollie's request for memory potions to be slipped in there. "Yeah, all the memory toppings you've got. Without them, I'll have to remember some pretty dodgy things about this guy, and I don't wanna go to Azkaban." She muttered the last part under her breath, but the man's eyebrows rose as he wondered whether she was being genuine or not. Her smile should have told him otherwise, but she could see he was struggling with it. "I'm gonna give you an extra scoop for free," he told her, looking Ollie over with a scrutinising eye. "He seems like hard work." She looked up at Ollie, eyes large and serious. "You're such hard work," she teased with a straight face. _______________________ tag: Oliver Osiris Devereaux words: 646 notes: <3 outfit: Something comfy. template by izzy [googlefont="Over the Rainbow"]

If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun
Fortescue and Everwood remarked about Ollie as if he wasn’t there, and Ollie was forced to just stand there and listen to it. So he accidentally stole a cone. Big deal. He’d come back and he was paying for it now, wasn’t he? Or he would be, after the man rung him up. Hard work… Ollie was a delight! What did these two know about it. Echo turned her eyes up at him and Ollie’s face broke out into a goofy smile reflexively. “My brother says the same thing.” Ollie pulled his coin pouch from his pocket, a show of good faith that he was, in fact, going to pay after the older wizard passed a double scooped waffle cone to the blonde. “And I’ll take…” Ollie looked at all the little labels that decorated the menu board. He liked trying new things so it usually took him a while to decide what to order wherever he went but as he’d already made it known he was hard work, he chose quickly. “Mango berry bash, please.”
Having received his cone and paid for the both of them, Ollie turned away from the counter. “Inside or outside?” he asked, hoping she’d want to sit at one of the open tables outside of the shop. He liked to people watch and imagine what they were getting up to for the day, creating little stories in his head for where they were going and why. Of course, he wouldn’t need to do that as much if he was having a conversation with Echo, but aside from talk of her blossoming quidditch career, Ollie didn’t really know much about the younger witch and there was always the possibility that she couldn’t hold a conversation to save her life. He doubted it, though.

Golden Snitches Get Stitches Mango berry bash. That was a flavour with some punch to it, and Echo smiled to herself, thinking it suited Ollie perfectly, though she wasn't keen on mango herself. Mixed with the berry flavour, it might be nice, she thought, and made a mental note to try it sometime. She'd try anything once, sometimes twice if she needed to. One experience of something sometimes wasn't enough to be sure if you liked it or not. That went for everything in life. She would always have a go unless it was just outright dumb or life threatening, she had her limits, but they were set at quite a distance. Food tasting was a tame area, though, she could bring herself to try most things, unless it was squid. She couldn't bear the thought of tasting squid, it made her cringe just imagining the slimy, chewy texture. Blergh. Shuddering a little at her own wandering thoughts, she took her own cone and turned to survey the ice cream parlour as Ollie asked if she wanted to sit inside or out. "Out," she said instantly, though there were plenty of empty tables inside. "You can do less damage out there," she quipped, though it wasn't the real reason she liked to sit outside. It was early autumn, their days of sunshine were nearly over, and soon enough everyone would be huddling indoors, hiding from rain, hale, or snow, and it'd be months before the opportunity rose again. The last of the summer sun was dwindling by the day, and she wanted to enjoy it. Besides, there was more to keep you entertained outside, what with shoppers passing, owls flying overhead on their way in and out of the post office, sounds and smells from the other shops. She much preferred that to staring at the boring walls of the parlour, which did nothing to stimulate conversation. Not that she had a problem talking in the right company. Echo was a confident girl, and admittedly, some people just weren't compatible with her, and she'd rather watch paint dry than interact with them, but around her friends she could talk and laugh for years. Ollie wasn't exactly a friend, but maybe he could become one now that they were both in the same world. Though she couldn't shake off that niggling thought of being more than friends with him. Trying not to let herself go down that mental rabbit hole, she went ahead of him, opening the door for him this time, because why the hell not, and finding an empty table. The tables were only small outside, since there wasn't much room in the cramped alley as it was, but it was crooked and cute and a little bit haphazard, and she liked it. She had always known the magical world as much as the muggle one, but it's quirkiness never failed to delight her in small ways, like the shapes of chairs, or the slopes of rooftops. There was so much more imagination to it all, and she wondered how the wizarding community had managed to hold on to that, rather than moving with the times. She took a seat on a slightly wobbly chair, the sun shining on her face once more as she tasted her ice cream. A few licks later and she looked at Ollie as he sat beside her. "I'm sorry, who are you?" she asked, hoping he would catch on to her game. If he didn't click on that she was hinting at the memory potions supposed to be in her ice cream, she'd probably just sound like an idiot, but she had hope for Ollie yet. _______________________ tag: Oliver Osiris Devereaux words: 632 notes: <3 outfit: Something comfy. template by izzy [googlefont="Over the Rainbow"]

If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun
Less damage outside? Ha. “I dunno,” Ollie said playfully as he walked out the door that Echo held open for him. “I could probably take out a few of these tables if I put my mind to it.” They found an open table and Oliver pulled out his chair, licking the side of his ice cream cone as he did so after noticing it was starting to drip. The first lick was very berry flavored, the second mango, and the third must have been the bash because Ollie couldn’t place it but whatever it was, it was delicious. His cone was a brilliant orange and pink swirl of color that seemed to move with every lap of his tongue, like a lava lamp. Fortescue definitely had a knack for ice creamery.
Ollie looked up from his cone to see if Echo’s was having any similar effects when she asked who he was. Putting on a thick Northern accent he replied, “I’m Stubby Boardman, of course. Don’t play daft.” He kept the act up as he grinned at her in his attempt to imitate the Hobgoblin’s lead singer’s signature curled lip. Ollie had been told a time or two that he actually looked like Stubby B a time or two, but both times had been by a witch who’d been hitting on him at a pub, causing Ollie’s ears to turn red as he stuttered a thanks and quickly looked around for his mates.
