Order of the phoenix application
Connection to the Order: After observing his brother’s social life for some time, it was easy enough for Oliver to notice when Kit was trying to sneak off. Confronting Kit one night by waiting up for his brother to come home, Ollie expected to hear that his big brother seeing someone, or maybe, though MUCH less likely, a couple someones. This tactic got him no where and the next time Kit tried sneaking out, Oliver trailed him. He was surprised to see his brother sneak into a meeting of sorts, and even more surprised when he was caught by Albus Dumbledore, his former headmaster. Oliver nervously tried to explain but Dumbledore simply laughed and invited him in. Oliver was in awe of the trust Dumbledore held not only for himself but for the entire Devereaux clan, and he promised to do right by the Order of the Phoenix.
Useful Skills: Learning to fight from a young age, having been trained by his father, could come in handy should the Order ever have need of him on the front line. His half-vampire abilities also lead him to being useful; strength, speed, and the ability to heal quickly.
Useful Affiliations: He can get Dumbles a nice pair of tickets to any quidditch match he wants. It might not be useful in the traditional sense, but Ollie says it's something.
Why join the Order of the Phoenix? Oliver knows what it means to be looked down upon for something you have no control over, even if those few who were able to find out that he and his siblings were half-vampire had their beliefs altered thanks to Maximus’ vampiric abilities. It never sat well with Oliver that some wizards thought themselves better than others because of their lineage. Whether it was blood purists or wealthy snobs, Oliver takes issue with people who look down their nose at him, his loved one, or anyone marked as ‘different’. When he heard about a group of wizards and witches committing hate crimes against muggles, muggleborns, and half-bloods, Ollie couldn’t sit idly by. He might not be as well trained or skilled as his big brother, Kit, but Oliver is as able-bodied as the next man – alright, more so, being half-vampire and all – and he’ll gladly fight to make sure hate never wins.
Whereas Kit took time to think through the magnanimous decision about putting his life on the line, while potentially breaking the law or at the very least skirting it, for a secret organization and a man who might well be a slight bit mad, Oliver jumped in head first. He gave no more thought to it than forming the world “oh hell yeah” required, because who wouldn’t be down for making the world a better place?
