Work had been slow as of late, it would seem the death eaters were busy planning something. Usually when things got slow that group of filthy purists would find a way to liven things up again. It was sickening, watching them commit their crimes and continue terrorizing the wizarding world. He knew that the aurors were hard at work, catching some here and there, but it never stopped the onslaught on their world. Jesse imagined that it was probably frustrating as all hell to be an auror, something he never dreamed of becoming, to watch the bad guy prevail over and over again.
There had been times he had rationalized that the entire pureblood community should be looked into and questioned, but that would only lead to worse things. He could still remember learning about the Holocaust in his muggle classes, long before he joined the wizarding world. The idea that all purebloods were bad echoed the ideals of Hitler, and in the same way the idea that all muggleborns were worthless echoed the same. Jesse had decided to rise above the purists, simply by not acknowledging their power at all.
None the less, their power was prevalent as he saw it's repercussions regularly in his work. Constantly making excuses for their hateful acts, keeping their world safe while they did everything in their power to make sure it wasn't so. Jesse figured he should be grateful that things were slow for now. Still, he found himself bored sitting at his desk and decided to make his way to the Ministry's cafeteria for a late breakfast and cup of tea.
The cafeteria was quite large, and though it was nearly empty the quiet mumble of conversations echoed in the space. It was a bright space, the walls had been enchanted to look as it would if it were above ground and through the windows a sunny winter day shone through. Jesse purchased himself a small breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast, then went on to pour himself a cup of morning tea at the drink station. The smell of it was heavenly, cheering him up before it even touched his lips.
Jesse found an empty table easily, somewhat near the enchanted windows, and around him sat three other empty seats. He set his plate down, then himself, and took a sip from his steaming cup. The sight of a familiar face entering the cafeteria caught his eye. Jesse smiled at Dorcas, nodding in hello. He had hoped she might come sit by him, on such a boring day he would gladly have some company. 416 WORDS Outfit: Ministry Robes THANK YOU MALIA TATE FROM ADOXOGRAPHY

Being an Auror was not a simple or easy job. Those that she loved she wanted as far away from the career as possible. It wasn't something she wanted for others but damned if it wasn't just something she threw herself head first in to as soon as she could. She worked with a bunch of chauvinists at the best of times but she was more than capable of holding her own around the testosterone filled offices. She had a bit of a reputation for upsetting a few of the men that liked to try and take liberties with her body and she was fine with that. She challenged her higher ups and she didn't let anyone talk down to her. She was often referred to as a 'spitfire' by those that got on with her, and by those she'd left gagged and tied to a chair the term 'psycho bitch' was freely used, but not to her face through fear of something worse happening ... and it would. Dorcas wasn't afraid to stand up for herself and she was fairly certain that if she wasn't damned good and focused at her job then she would have been demoted a long time ago. It had been stated in the past that she had issues with authority to which she pointed out that was total dragon-crap and that it wasn't authority she had issues with, it was moron's.
Needless to say there were some days that were just not good. Today was one and not because of office arseholes, more evil bastards that wanted to kill and maim people for no reason and cause utter chaos. There were plenty of people that worked on Death Eater cases but Dorcas wasn't really one of those, she focused on random shit heads that usually worked independently or as part of a different group of arsehats that wanted to cause havoc and destruction. People like that were less talked about because they weren't the so called 'big bad' that everyone was fearing at the moment, but it didn't mean they could get away with whatever the hell they wanted, whenever the hell they wanted. Today a lead had turned out to be decent, more than decent. She found a wizard she'd been hunting for the past twelve months after he'd returned from America having been untraceable. One of Dorcas' little informants gave her a heads up when the dastardly wizard in question was back in the country and sure enough her lead had been solid. A fight had ensued and Dorcas was a little worse for wear come day break but arsehole was put away, paperwork was done and despite fussing from one of her superiors that she get her arse to St Mungo's for a check up, her time at work was pretty much done. She could take the day and night off to get some sleep. After food. And possibly a check up.
Making her way through the halls, Dorcas was ready for some food. She'd not eaten in what felt like forever and she was ready to shut the cafeteria down by way of making them run out of food. She intended to scoff everything she could get her hands on and the big cut across her right cheek had practically healed itself. Well not so much 'healed' but it had at least stopped bleeding and she'd wiped her face up in the womens toilets so she was at least a little presentable. Everything else would just result in a load of bruises and leave her body aching for a day or three, nothing she couldn't handle. Her tolerance for pain was a hell of a lot higher than most Aurors and while many would make their way to St Mungo's just for a check up and clean up, she decided breakfast was way more important so she grabbed herself an egg and bacon sandwich, a couple of danishes, some kind of bacon quiche and a decent sized coffee to make sure she could apparate herself home later. After getting it all on her tray she headed towards the windows, needing a bit of light and a feeling of some kind of freedom. She supposed she could just walk out with the tray - it wasn't as if anyone would stop her - but she wanted to rest a little. That was when she spotted the shape of someone all too familiar and she intended to join him whether he liked it or not. "Morning." She said, come from beside him and pulling out the seat opposite Jesse as she set her tray down on the table, completely unconcerned about the cut on her face, the redness of her other cheek, the scruffy mess that was her hair and the fact that some of her clothes were clearly torn and scruffed up. "Keeping out of trouble?" She highly doubted it as she sat and scooted her chair in. Jesse was, to put it bluntly, damned attractive. He was a heart throb to be certain and Dorcas was sure he went around breaking hearts left, right and centre which, if he wasn't careful, could lead to a heck of a lot of trouble, especially when he'd flirt with women regardless of if they had partners or not.

Being an auror sounded like the worst job on the planet, he could never imagine himself doing such a thing, but he knew that for Dorcas it was the perfect position. She was a strong willed woman, and it served her perfectly to have a career that required so much of her energy. Jesse, too, was strong willed- but in a different way. He cared about himself, and himself only- the give a damn for social justice wasn't there. Even as he had lost everything, his child and his girlfriend to the death eaters, it never once drew him to join the order. He had heard about the secret society a time or two from the Meadowes' clan, mostly through over hearing, and although he understood their message he never cared to participate in their work.
One would think that a muggleborn, such as Jesse, would jump at the opportunity to fight against the injustices faced against his bloodline. But he never jumped, not once. All he cared about was the fact that he was fine, and that if he ever saw one of those pieces of shit death eaters in person he wouldn't spare a second thought before blowing them away. Yes, he hated the death eaters, but he didn't seek them out. He had no desire to partake in their war, but if he was ever lucky enough to deal with one face to face he wouldn't hesitate to unleash his wrath. In fact, he welcomed the idea of fighting them one-on-one.
As Dorcas sat opposite of Jesse, looking disheveled and very, very hungry a small heh of a laugh escaped his lips and he shook his head. It was sort of amusing to see her in that way, scrapes and cuts and a heaping plate in front of her. "Good morning," he greeted back, leaning back in his seat taking another sip of his tea. He mused at the idea that this was a standard breakfast for an auror: bacon and eggs served with a slight taste of blood in the mouth. Again, he couldn't imagine himself wanting anything to do with a position like that. He was more of a nine-to-five worker, put in the bare minimum and continue on with his life. It provided more than enough for him to enjoy his life outside of the Ministry walls, and that was all he could ask for.
"Oh, you know, the usual drunken shenanigans." Jesse's lips twisted in a playful half smile, not attempting in the least the hide the bruises across his knuckles, or the place where his skin had split on his fist. He looked over Dorcas with amusement. Merlin, she was such a bad ass. He liked that about her, and found it strangely attractive. She sat across from him scrapped and scared, wearing all black, and not giving a single damn what anyone thought of her. It was magical. "Trying to keep busy. What about you? Another boring day at the office?" He jested. THANK YOU MALIA TATE FROM ADOXOGRAPHY
