PERSONALITY Boggart: Shay and Naia dead on the floor. Mirror of Erised: Her surfing on the waves along the beach she grew up next to. The UK is her home but she will always long for Hawai'i. Patronus: Nene - Anything and everything about growing up in Hawai'i! Family, beaches, friends, surfing, flowers, sunshine, rain. Just everything! Nalani, or Nala as she prefers to be called, is a social butterfly. She loves to interact and chat with almost anyone about anything. She's a bit of a chatterbox and has been known to chat the hind legs off a donkey! She just enjoys talking, non stop, about everything. If there's a lull in any conversation she finds a way to fill it. Whatever little thought pops into her head she'll say out loud. Sometimes its gotten her into trouble, for example when she told Professor Binns that his lesson was more like a lecture and less 'lecture' and more 'torture'. She stands by everything she says, too. She's certain she's always right, but if you can prove she's wrong then Nala will apologise, admit to being wrong and probably buy you an ice cream sundae to make up for having probably been a bit of an arse. Which she can be. She can get very intense at times. That's the social side of 'Social Butterfly' covered and now for the Butterfly portion. Nala absolutely loves nature. Flowers, birds, bees, trees, random sticks, she just loves it all. Having grown up so close to a beach she's always been a free spirit. She loves to swim and she loves to take in nature. Her magic is at its strongest when she's in nature. She flits around from space to space, enjoying everything from sunshine to rain. She can also be a little deaf like a butterfly, often so engrossed in what she's doing that she barely notices another person around. She loves to fly and has a love of Quidditch. She's always followed her brother's career and supported him in all his matches, unless they'd been against her at Hogwarts. Romantically Nala has been all over the place, too. She's had long-term relationships and she's had a few (*cough*bunch*cough**cough*) of one night stands. She's into both guys and girls and doesn't have a preference. Currently she's in a long term relationship with a girl she met through a friend but she feels as though there's a little lull in the relationship. In true Nala style she'll keep on pushing through until the relationship just deteriorates. She does have dreams of someday settling down, maybe even having a family, but right now she just loves being favourite aunty (yeah, you read that right, Kiki!) to her sweet nephew Shay and her darling niece Naia, totally named after her, Nala likes to say! Being a bit of a chatterbox with not a whole lot of filter, Nala's kind of accidentally pissed people off. She's never intentionally gone into a conversation with the aim of annoying someone, apart from one time involving a cute guy when she was a teenager and didn't know how to flirt, but she's usually pretty oblivious to anyone holding a grudge against her. If she does realise that someone's got a grudge then she'll go out of her way to make it up to them. She's got a kindness that just can't be bought. She was a bit younger than her brother and sister but she never really noticed until they'd gone away to Hogwarts. Growing up she'd seen them able to do things and she'd just always assumed she could do them too, and most of the time she wasn't wrong. She just went head first into situations and somehow managed to do what she was intending. Surfing, flying, hand stands, cartwheels, swimming - she just loved it all. With a bit of practice she got better over time. She wasn't so successful at roller skating, breaking her arm on her second attempt, but it healed up quickly with a little of her grandmother's magic. Overall Nala had an incredible childhood. She loved the magical village they lived in and when it was time for her formal magical education, she was highly tempted to attend Illvermorny. It was the school her mother had gone to and it was in America, she wouldn't be too far from home if she went here. However all the tales she'd heard from Kiki and Sully about their time at Hogwarts just pulled her in. She went to Hogwarts, nervous but excited. She made a friend on the train ride and was sorted into Hufflepuff. Perhaps not the best student she could have been, Nala would chat in lessons and would either not do her homework - earning her detentions - or rush it an hour before her lesson was due to start because there was nothing more soul crushing than having to write about such boring subject matter. Wasn't the fact that she could do it enough proof that she'd learnt it? There were exceptions. She loved Care of Magical Creatures and she was a dab hand at Potions. Herbology was great fun although she did mess around in that quite a bit. People would often underestimate her abilities because she was always so slack with her classes, but really she was pretty good at the practical side of everything magical, she just really disliked the writing of essays. A whole parchment of a spell to turn a feather into a mouse?! Why!?! After graduation Nala went straight back to Hawai'i. She was so happy to be there but the lifestyle just didn't suit her, not twenty-four seven. After eighteen months of living in Hawai'i, Nala moved back to the UK and got a job tutoring potions in the summer holidays. She loved it, she had a real knack for teaching. She got a job in a book shop and then a clothing store. She bounced around from shop to shop and made a lot of friends. She goes to Hawai'i every year for a couple of weeks. Sometimes, if she needs it, she'll sneak off for a second trip. She finds she gets asked a lot of questions about her brother and she's happy to let everyone know about how impossibly loud his snoring is, or how much he farts. Having worked in retail for quite some time, Nala craved a change of scenery. It gave her a lot of time to spend with her niece and nephew, who she positively adores, but she couldn't be stuck indoors any more, so she got a job at Hogwarts, teaching flying of all things and refereeing Quidditch matches. She absolutely loves it! It's only a part-time position and she still tutors during the summer holidays, but she believes she's found an incredible life-work balance, perfect for her.
