 Wherever you wander, there's no place like home Ash was pretty chill about Lupercalia. His first year had been fun, and he'd had a good time with Xantha Travers, making some damn good memories out in that forest, and though he wasn't sure what to expect this year, he knew it would be enjoyable regardless. He didn't have any insight into who might be chosen for his match this year, he was bisexual, it could have been any guy or girl in the huge group gathered around. Ash could think of a few people he wouldn't like to be partnered with, but he trusted the hat to get it right. He'd been a bit surprised last year to hear Travers' name being called out for him, but it had turned out great. The Sorting Hat knew what was up. Ash reclined lazily in his seat near the back of the gathering. His surname was near the tail end of the alphabet so he'd have a wait if he was going to sit under the hat again. That was fine by him. His wand swirled in a small circle on the grass beside him, and a patch of daisies bloomed out of the frosty grass. Ash began to pick them and make a daisy chain while he waited for his turn. "ASH SAWYER!" Huh? Ash's dark eyes slowly lifted from the flowers he was toying with, and he looked around the group, a little lost at first, before he realised what was happening. He'd been chosen. Who for? His chain wasn't finished yet. Resigning himself to making a bracelet instead, he sealed off the small circle of flowers and rose to his feet to see who was sitting on the throne. A slow smile spread across his face as he approached the front of the crowd. Kowalski. She was cute. A Quidditch rival, but that sort of thing didn't stand for occasions like this. Ash reached her side and took her hand, taking a second to loop the daisy bracelet around her wrist before leading her over to the cloaks. She looked hot in the red cloak, especially with the hood up, and Ash found himself eager to get into those woods. Miss Kowalski was escorted off by Mr Sawyer and Minnie looked to the scroll once more. There number of paired students were now more than the number of students left to be paired. She called out Jaxon Montague who was paired with Clover Wynne. A few more pairings and everyone was finished. Every student had a match, given to them by the sorting hat. Minnie placed the sorting hat back on the stand and placed the scroll of names beside it. That was all there was to it from her, the rest would be up to Albus. Sending the wolves off and then the red riding hoods. There was such positive elctric in the air that Minnie was excited for the students, knowing that each of them would have a wonderful night. Although perhaps her doubts did waver a little as her eyes drifted over Cassius and Beatrice.

Albus thought there were some very fine pairs this year, though his favourites were the unexpected ones, the ones who didn't seem to fit at all. Those were the ones who would have the most interesting evenings. He, himself, had been given a rather unexpected pairing when he was a lad, and it had been the best night of his life, though he had and never would tell a soul about it, such was the etiquette of Lupercalia. He was particularly interested to see Alecto Carrow and Sophie Vector together. Sophie was the daughter of a treasured member of staff and had been going through a difficult patch of late, and Alecto... best not to elaborate on that one. He was intensely disappointed that he would never know what would become of their time together. On a purely intellectual curiosity basis, of course. He took Minerva's place as she rolled up her scroll of names, her role finished for the night.
"Excellent. Some excellent pairings we have tonight," he began, holding his arms out to the couples lined up in their robes. "Now we come to the fun part. Wolves, please take your positions." Albus waited while those wearing the wolf cloaks stepped forward, readying themselves for a brisk and dangerous sprint through the forbidden forest. "On my mark. And do stick to the paths." He raised his wand high, pausing for dramatic effect as the wolves prepared themselves. All eyes were on him, and Albus' own eyes twinkled with mischief as he drew the moment out. Finally, he gave a small swish, and a horn rang out through the grounds. The wolves broke in to a run, feet crashing through the underbrush as they barrelled into the forest. Having no real cares about counting the correct amount of time, Albus merely waited until he thought they had enough of a head start, and then blasted another horn for the rest of the students to give chase. He stepped back out of the way and leaned in to Minerva. "I bet you ten Galleons that Kowalski will be the first to catch her wolf," he muttered, smiling.
