My promise to you always and forever
Getting out of the house this morning had been trying. There were still boxes everywhere, mostly items packed from his flat that he had accumulated over the years but there were several shipping boxes strewn about the place as well, new items to fill out his new home. Ariel was growing fast and the pair had quickly outgrown the tiny one bedroom London flat. She needed her own room, a garden to play in, and space enough that she could run around. He had found a lovely place just outside of the city that met all of their needs as a little family, including a spare bedroom for company which Dorcas defiantly claimed for herself on drunken nights out, and an office for Dorian to work in peace. There was a large sunroom which he intended to set up as a play room for Ariel but for now all of her things were either still boxed up or half unpacked and cluttering the floor of her very own bedroom. The stress of not keeping a tidy house was getting to Dorian but he’d been busier than usual at work, an overnight stake out and short undercover operation that lasted three days. The first week of living at the new home had seen very little of Dorian actually in it and he’d woken up early this morning intending on tackling a bit of the kitchen chaos before Ariel awoke. Best laid plans. The little blonde pixie was up with the sun and wanting to play with her uncle Dor nonstop until it was time to visit grammy Em.
Most of his morning after arriving at the office was spent clearing his desk of unresolved paperwork and directing the new recruits as they prepared for their training sessions. The third-year trainees were assigned to shadow some of the veteran Aurors while the first and second years had code lecture and physical training. A new Untouchable was supposed to be meeting with him as well for some hand-to-hand combat training, and he had been expecting to hear from them early in the day but it was just past lunch and there’d been no sight of him. One of the mysteries that department was known to struggle with was how to read a clock as they always seemed to do things on their own timeline and rarely clued the rest of the departments in on their comings and goings. Most of the time it wasn’t an issue, the Aurors stayed out of the Department of Mysteries and Dorian went about his day not giving the Untouchables a second – sometimes even first – thought but whenever there was physical training required of another department they sent the newbies to the MLE and inevitably to Dorian. That was when their “island time” become more than a strange quirk but an actual nuisance. He had things to be getting on with in his day.

So far working for the Department of Mysteries hadn't been all that interesting. Well it had, just not work wise. She'd not had much to do with her department because they were focusing on training her up, making her an asset. She had to become a legilimens if she wanted to continue working in the Brain Room as it was dubbed, and she was coming along rather well with it. She had private lessons on top of what she had to do at the ministry and she was being taught by a fellow Death Eater so she didn't have to worry about her secret being found out if anything back fired. There were other things she had to do, it wasn't all mind work, but they were boring kinds of things, getting used to the office still, handling the equipment and such. It was an intimidating job and Jovi had no idea what she'd been expected to do when she'd first been asked to join the department, she'd just known it would be demanding and that only fine minds would be able to take on the task. Also if after a year of training she wasn't at an acceptable level then her mind would be obliviated so it was kind of serious but she was confident in her abilities and it was such a good position to be in for the Dark Lord that she simply could not pass it up.
It was amazing how fast things went down in the Department of Mysteries. Time was relevant down there. There was even a time room which Jovi had to be familiar with. She had to know all the rooms but her primary one would be the brain one. Naturally she was rather curious about the Love and Death rooms but she tried not to seem overly curious with them while she was learning a little about each of their purposes. That veil though. That was something rather spectacular.
Jovi had lunch and was told her next assignment would be up with Agent Humbert and to take her change of clothes she'd been asked to bring in. Agent Humbert was head of the training program for Aurors and was to arrange for her to learn some combat skills. It wasn't necessarily something one might think of an Unspeakable needing but the were required to have a broad range of skills. Jovi was flexible and willing to train with the first year Aurors if need be, thinking that she would be required to fit in with the others, not realising the need to have her trained faster than the average dim-witted Auror trainee. She knocked on the ajar office door of Agent Humbert and gave it a small push, "Agent Humbert?" She asked softly, peering her head around the door as it opened. She stepped into the room, pulling her little black bag over her shoulder, appearing rather unassuming, still in her work clothes although she knew if it weren't for the badge she had attached around her bag then she could easily be confused for a visitor. Eyes looking over the man behind the desk wearing the suit had Jovi wondering if Agent Humbert was off to a wedding or a funeral today. He looked rather impeccable and entirely arousing and she wondered just how in the hell people got any work done around him. Of all the older blokes she'd met, he was certainly the most attractive of them all.

My promise to you always and forever
Nearly done with his paperwork and getting ready to have a stroll down to the Department of Mysteries for himself to ask after this new recruit he was supposed to be training, Dorian paused from his work to look to the door as someone knocked lightly and pushed their way inside. At first glance Dorian momentarily thought the young woman was a lost visitor obviously struggling to find whomever or wherever she was headed. The romper the witch was wearing was reminiscent of a school girl’s uniform, and had it not been for the badge on her handbag, and the fact that he had been waiting for her, Dorian might have ushered her off to one of the department secretaries for guidance.
“Yes,” he answered, standing from behind his desk and extending his hand in a formal greeting. “You must be the new Unspeakable. Miss…Rowle, is it?” He had her name on a memo somewhere, though he had half been expecting a wizard. He gestured to the chair in front of her for her to take a seat, and waited until she was seated before he returned to his own chair behind his desk. They had training to be getting on with, but Dorian wanted to make sure she was prepared for what their lesson would entail. “Lovely to meet you. Have your superiors explained what you’ll be doing here?”

The gentleman, and really there was no other term for than man unless you wanted to get into the unclean side of her imagination, greeted her formerly and she moved farther into the room to meet his hand with his, gripping it and shaking in return. "Yes sir," She said in response to her name. He offered her a seat non-verbally and she smiled politely, "Thank you, sir." It was frustrating having to act so respectfully all the time but it was doable. Jovi had had plenty of practice growing up and being taught the graces and niceties of a lady. They weren't all needed at work but they came into play every now and then. She had to play nice with the more senior staff, and seeing that she was only 18 and had been in her position for less than a year, most people were more senior than her.
Slipping her bag odd her shoulder, Jovi took hold of it before she sat herself down, using her freehand to sweep behind her and pull her dress forward beneath her legs so as not to crease it. She looked to Agent Humbert, placing her bag on the floor on the right side of her chair and crossing her right foot over her left, her knees tilted ever so slightly to the right of her.
Jovi wasn't entirely sure what to expect from Agent Humbert. She had an idea of what was going to happen based on what little information she'd been told but she'd never had to have complete training before. She'd had private lessons with a wand, different types of offensive and defensive magics learnt but nothing in regards of hand to hand combat, for it had always seemed so beneath her but if it was a necessity of her job then she would do what she had to in order to keep her superiors happy with her performance. This was a good job to hold. Not one she needed but it was an excellent position to be in for the Dark Lord and that was what mattered most. "I'm afraid Agent Chansey wasn't overly informative, sir." But that was just the way of the whole department really, everything was on a need to know basis and she supposed she wouldn't need to know about training until it was time, and even then, it was easily left up to someone else to inform her properly and so that was the exact situation she was in, sat before someone outside of the department, waiting to be told what to expect. The Department of Mysteries were certainly big on keeping things mysterious.

The young witch before him spoke clearly and directly, answering his questions with a professional tone and in general giving Dorian an excellent first impression. Not that his impression of an Unspeakable held much clout in the Department of Mysteries as an outsider, but he was respected in his own department and if Miss Rowle was going to have any level of contact with his trainees he at least hoped to find her respectable.
As suspected, Miss Rowle was left mostly in the dark as to the purpose of her presence in the Auror Department. “No, I don’t suspect he would be,” Dorian said of Agent Chansey. “Understandably, we do things a bit different here in the Auror Department and I like to keep a tight schedule. We have a lot to go over and very little time to do it in, so I’ll jump right into it. Your file states you’re skilled with a wand, which of course is a necessity, but if at any point an opponent disarms you, it’s imperative that you be capable of defending yourself without magic. We’ll start with hand-to-hand combat and when you’re proficient we’ll move to wand-to-hand combat. Your superiors expect you to be a quick learner. I’m looking forward to it.” Dorian leaned forward slightly in his chair. “Do you have any questions before we begin?”

Agent Dorian was direct and straight to the point. He only said what was necessary and gave Jovian a little more information that what she'd already had. True, she'd gotten the gist of most of it, but Agent Humbert laid it out in front of her and even gave her insight to how well she was expected to perform. She hadn't expected there to be any pressure but there certainly felt like if she didn't get perfect, and fast, then she'd face consequences. It was a little nerving but Jovi would see to it that she would learn to fight. She would meet and then go on to exceed the expectations of her department and even those of Agent Humbert. She knew it could possibly take quite some time but she was willing to put forth the effort required, even if it meant spending her free-time with a private instructor instead of going out with friends or planning more dates with handsome young men that wanted to wine her and dine her. Well she supposed she might make time for one particular individual, depending how their date went on Valentine's day. "Not at the moment." Actually she did have a few, but she'd hold off, wait and see if the Auror answered her questions along the way, and if he didn't then she could ask at the end of the session.

As they spoke, Dorian evaluated the young Unspeakable, gauging her interest in the conversation, the task, and the coordination between departments. She seemed to take her assigned duties seriously enough, so when she claimed to have no questions for the moment Dorian took it at face value. “Right. Well then, I will show you to the locker room so you can get changed and I will meet you in the training room in five minutes.” She was a put together looking witch, but he did not have time to wait around while she primped and preened herself into her workout clothes. He had already mentioned his desire to keep on schedule and he expected she would not have trouble keeping to it.
Holding his office door open for her, Dorian waited until the witch had exited his office then locked it behind them so as to ensure confidentiality for the cases he had in progress. He escorted her down the hallway, pointing out the door to the room they would be training in and then continuing on to show her the entrance to the witches locker room. He then disappeared into the wizards locker room to remove his tie and hand up his suit jacket. While many of the other Aurors trained in traditional workout gear, Dorian found it a disservice as the only time he would really be wearing such attire was if he were on a mission that called for such clothing. A short-lived undercover mission with Agent Devereaux being the most recent example but not nearly common enough to warrant fighting with an unfamiliar restriction. He wore suits regularly and he therefore trained in them as well, though a much more casual look than most outside of the department would ever see him in.
Not five minutes later he was standing in the middle of a large open room, padded mats covering the floor and a row of sparring dummies lined against the wall. There were posters hung about the room with commonly taught attacks and defenses broken down into simple to follow instructions, the drawn images moving in slow motion as the steps appeared written overhead in clear block letters. When his temporary pupil joined him, the lesson began. “Alright Miss Rowle, I would like to evaluate what we are starting with. If you don’t mind, attack me.” He looked at her seriously, standing with his feet firmly planted but in an otherwise relaxed position.

Standing from her chair, Jovi grabbed her bag and slid the strap over her shoulder carefully, making sure it didn't twist about and ensuring that she looked proper before she left Agent Hotty's office. She followed him to the changing rooms where she entered, finding herself alone. That suited her just fine. As she changed into her black tracksuit pants, that fit rather snugly, and training tops she had her hair let down and put up again into a ponytail with magic. She slipped her black and white trainers on and tied up the laces twice. With a glance in the mirror she was set. She left her bag in the locker hung up on a peg with her clothes hung neatly inside of it thanks to the wonders of magic, while her wand was securely in place on her right outer thigh with a concealment charmed pocket. She left the locker room and met with Agent Humbert in the training room. It was a large space and Jovi supposed it had to be in order to fit all the recruits that needed training. Many people liked the idea of being an Auror, fighting bad guys, fame, glory, but it wasn't really all that easy to get into the academy. Jovi almost had, she could have been one of the new recruits that Agent Humbert was training to become an Auror, instead she was picked out as a suitable candidate for the Department of Mysteries. A young mind ready to be moulded.
Looking about the room briefly, Jovi's eyes took everything in as fast as she could. She doubted there would be any need for training equipment for today but then again there seemed to be a need to have her trained up rather quickly. Agent Humbert had made mention of hand to hand combat so when she was faced with him and he asked her to attack, she wasn't surprised, however she did feel awkward as hell taking a position she felt she had no right to take just yet. She felt like a complete novice, something she'd never really felt before, and it made her a little uneasy. She stood on the spot and then shifted her right foot forward, her spindly arms came up, hands curled into fists that she held just below her face, outstretched. She felt uncomfortable not knowing the correct stance but this seemed somewhat accurate and she knew Agent Humbert would likely correct her once he'd got an initial assessment of her abilities. Taking a deep breath to prepare herself Jovi just couldn't get herself mentally ready to "attack" an Auror, still she had to at least give it as good a shot as she could manage so she shifted her weight, stretching her right leg forward as her right fist swung in Dorian's direction, aiming for his face but not a lot of power behind it.

My promise to you always and forever
Dorian stood at the ready, with no way to be absolutely certain of the young witch’s skills but fairly sure of what to expect. He’d been given charge of the new recruits and the Auror academy trainees for a few short years now. He was used to facing off with all sorts in this room; the ego driven types like Black who thought they were hot shit without bothering to put any effort into it, the reserved types like Shacklebolt who kept mostly to themselves but seemed a natural fighter, and the overachievers like Rystan who took on every opportunity to demonstrate first out of the group and was always making notes of any feedback they were given. He could sense a little hesitancy in Rowle, but she gave it a go and Dorian blocked her punch, swiping her fist off course with a well-timed move of his forearm. “Good,” he said, reassuringly. “This time put a little more force in it. I can feel you’ve got more than you’re giving me.” He blocked her next fist, and the next. Dorian gave her instructions as they went, critiquing her stance, her grip, her blocks. He always tried to remain positive with the new recruits, finding something to praise even when there was plenty to critique. He found most people responded well to that sort of training, although he was no stranger to the tough-love sort of trainees, the ones who needed to be scolded publicly in order to see any improvement. It wasn’t his style naturally, but as rigid as Dorian was in his personal life and in the way he conducted himself around the office or in the field, he was more than capable of being flexible when the job required it of him. Thankfully, Jovian didn’t seem to need anything too severe in order to see an improvement.
Extending his hand toward the floor, he offered the redhead help up from the ground. They’d been practicing defensive maneuvers, and she was doing well enough that he tried something a little different; sweeping her legs out from under her after faking a punch. “Remember to tuck your chin down when you fall.” Thankfully she hadn’t hit her head when he’d knocked her to the floor, but they were standing on a large, thick mat that covered most of the floor. She would have been fine had she banged her head, but it wasn’t good practice to let one’s head flail around in a fight. Helping Jovian into a standing position, Dorian’s eyes shifted to the clock on the wall. “Looks like we do not have time enough for one last sparring match. We can pick it up again tomorrow. Eight A.M.” He didn’t want another day of waiting around for whenever the Department of Mysteries decided it appropriate to start a day’s worth of training. Jovian had only received half a day today as it was, and of course they had taken a few breaks. His shirt was clinging to his chest with a light sweat. He needed a shower before he went to the Meadowes’ to pick up Ariel and they had shopping to do before heading home. It wouldn’t do to be running around in his current state.

Jovi started uneasy with the situation. She should have been more comfortable training like this because it was the career she had been planning on taking, but being alone with agent Hot-Stuff made it hard to want to swing a punch at him. What if she accidentally caught his chiselled jaw, cut her hand open and bruised that beautiful face? It would be an absolute outrage! The more the training went on, the more Jovi realised there was no way she was going to land anything on Humbert. He could read her like a book, before each strike she made she saw his body adapt to what she was doing, but there was no stopping, she had to follow through and she always came across a block.
Jovi started getting into the the swing of things. When she'd gotten more comfortable throwing punches they mixed it up. She was blocking blows and Humbert was surprisingly supportive through the whole thing. Jovi intended on hiring someone to help her out, train her up fast, but she doubted they'd be anywhere near as soft as Agent Humbert. It seemed strange hearing such positivity coming out of the Auror's mouth when Jovi felt she was doing an absolutely terrible job. She'd not managed to hit him once.
The training session came to an end with Jovi on her back. She sighed and took a second on the floor to regain her thoughts, listening to Humbert's advice. Tuck her chin. Got it. Next time she'd try and keep that in mind. His hand came down and helped her up. She noticed him look to the clock and she was relieved the training session was over but at the same time she was very much disappointed that it hadn't been as sexy as she'd hoped before it had all started. Well there was time for all that to change if he kept on training her. "Thank you, Agent Humbert." She smiled and offered a nod of appreciation and farewell in his direction. "See you tomorrow." She headed back to the change rooms, thinking how the shirt Humbert had been wearing looked good on him all clung to him in places thanks to the sweaty workout they'd given one another. If only it had been more than just that, but it seemed agent Humbert was really only about business, which Jovian could respect, but who knew what could potentially blossom over time if things didn't work out so well with the date Fin was setting up in a couple of days time. He was going to have to really impress to make her forget about agent Hot-Stuff.
