Pfft. Romance. Who even needed romance? Plans to go to Hogsmeade with a couple of gal pals for a girly sort of day instead of the whole Valentine's spiel but it fell through when over half their numbers arranged with their boyfriends to go on late Valentine dates or got asked out for the one day of the month they were allowed out of the school. Adding to that Clara got herself detention and Melody decided she just had to do homework leaving Jazzy with two options - work on her homework or go alone. Jazzy picked the latter. She went to Hogsmeade alone but it was more of the same. It was eyerollingly annoying. Figuring she had nothing to lose Jazzy grabbed herself just a small bag of sweets and made her way to the edge of the village, beyond the shops and homes and disapparated. She landed at a familiar spot. She'd apparated to Diagon Alley plenty when she'd gotten her licence. Leaving the apparation point she took to the alley, relieved to be around a whole new set of shops. Everything was pushing the Valentine's agenda although at over half price considering the day was two days passed, and Jazzy really wasn't buying into any of it right now. She was anti-love but she didn't believe in the commercialisation of the whole thing. Surely there were 364 other days of the year to show someone you loved them, why did everyone have to show their desires and get horny all on the same day?
Shoving her sweets into her magically enhanced handbag Jazzy looked about. She perused the stalls set up along the small street that held all kinds of wonders and crap. Honestly, some of it was awful. Knock off brooms, dodgy wands and the like. Some of them were better than that, some stalls actually had a good bargain going on, but Jazzy didn't much have a need for newt testicles, five ounces for two knuts, or lizard tongues, one for two knuts or three for five. Still it was good to have a change of scenery and be away from the school and the all too crowded Hogsmeade. Getting a few things for herself in a couple of the shops Jazzy made one more last stop before she decided she should probably head back to Hogsmeade so no one would know she'd been absent from the village. Pushing open the door to the small menagerie shop Jazzy had a look at the cute little animals. She cooed over a fire crab and then checked out the ravens. She was only here to grab Shadow a few treats but it was very tempting to buy herself a Raven instead of having an owl like most people, but she wasn't allowed more than one pet, it was a rule, but was it a rule that would get her expelled if found out? Jazzy wasn't sure but she was kind of tempted to risk it. But did ravens actually deliver mail like an owl? Perhaps it would be worth finding that out first before purchasing what might be a completely useless bird.

And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night Zach stuffed the last chunk of his pumpkin pasty into his mouth and paused in the middle of Diagon Alley to chew, his mouth was nearly bursting, but he persisted, hands on his hips with the effort of keeping his lips closed. His mother had raised him with a pretty good set of manners, and even if it meant looking like you were choking on a wasp in public, he would abide by the life lessons she taught him as a boy. In all fairness, it was his second pasty. The first had been meat and potato, and he'd followed it up with the pumpkin as a sort of dessert. He considered it a solid lunch, and washed down with the bottle of water - so healthy - that he had stuffed in the pocket of his coat, he was pretty satisfied for the time being. He brushed his hands off, emptied his water bottle and chucked it in a bin as he headed for the Magical Menagerie, dusting more crumbs off of his clothes as he walked. He paused to check himself before entering the shop. Going in there covered in food would be a huge mistake. He'd learned that one the hard way. Stepping inside the crowded, noisy, and stinky pet shop, Zach smiled. It felt like home. The familiar cawing and mewling sounds of the animals inside made his soul happy, and even the smells were welcome. Well, most of them, he wasn't that perverted. He had to pick up some bits for his own pets, food and other supplies that he wasn't really interested in talking about to anyone other than the shop owner, who knew his needs and met them on a weekly basis. Zach owned a couple of pets he maybe shouldn't have, and the less people that knew about them, the better. The shop owner waved a hand at Zach from his place behind the counter. "I'll be with you in a minute," the man called, trying to work his way through a large queue that had gathered. That as the problem with weekends, everyone ran out at the same time to do their shopping, and people like Zach, who liked to be fast and efficient and get back home within the hour, were stuck in queues as long as a basilisk in every damn shop they went in. He didn't fancy standing in line to get what he had came for, so he really only had one option. Resigning himself to some heavy petting, he approached one of the cats that had been causing a ruckus and gave it a rough scratch on the head, silencing it. "What's wrong with you, hmm?" he asked, fingers scrubbing under the feline's chin. He snatched up a bag of cat treats from a nearby shelf and tore them open, tipping a few out and watching as the cat and three of its buddies went to town, filling their boots. "Shhh," he put a finger to his lips and hid the bag of treats under a cat bed before moving on, finding himself stood next to a young blonde who was admiring a raven as though she had never seen one before. Zach eyed the large bird. "They won't keep your mice down like an owl does," he commented. Ravens were lazier than owls when it came to hunting, in Zach's experience. And much less affectionate. Zach liked an animal that could give a good cuddle. _______________________ tag: Jasmine Cherry Moon words: 613 notes: <3 outfit: Just look at him. template by izzy[googlefont="Nanum Brush Script"][googlefont="Cinzel Decorative"]

Some people could think a decision over quite clearly. They could weigh up the pros and cons and do what suited their situation best. Jazzy liked to think that she could do that but the truth was that she actually did what she wanted to do, she just did it in a round about way that would take far longer than if she'd just done what she'd wanted in the first place. Today was a perfect example of that. The raven was cool to look at, it was different to the point it would definitely stand out in the great hall and maybe she'd even get asked questions on it. She didn't mind a little attention here and there and just from time to time not constantly, sure she got plenty as Quidditch Captain and straight up hotty, but she wasn't getting as much as she'd like from those and there were different types of attention too, being a hotty wasn't going to be the same as being good at Quidditch or for having a pet Raven that delivered her mail, so she was subconsciously convincing herself that a raven was a great idea, she just didn't have any evidence to convince her subconscious mind that her conscious mind should know that buying the raven was a good idea because it just wasn't, she had no need for a bird she wasn't even sure could deliver mail like she needed, and even if it could, could it deliver over long distances?
A bloke came up beside her, Jazzy sensed his presence with a shift in the air around her and the ruffling of clothes. She didn't bother looking until he started speaking. He was actually kind of useful, it seemed. She wondered if he worked in the shop but then he had a leather jacket on, he seemed to be knowledgeable on pets which was kind of cool. Or possibly kind of weird. It would definitely have been weird if he did work at the store but her was here on a day off. "Oh?" She looked back to the bird, "Interesting." She pondered for a moment, "What are they like as mail deliverers? Do they match up to the classic method of owl delivery?" She asked, figuring if this guy was going to put himself into her time, then she was going to take advantage of what she assumed was genuine knowledge about the bird. Hopefully he'd actually be able to answer her questions and buy her a drink. Maybe that was going to far. Maybe not. He was definitely hot, although he looked a bit older than her, possibly by about ten or so years, but he didn't have to know that. Jazzy knew she looked older for her age, that was why she could get about Diagon Alley without being asked 'Why aren't you at Hogwarts!?' by outraged older witches and wizards. She was free to roam the streets but she couldn't forget that she did have to be back at Hogwarts before the curfew kicked in and Professors started hunting for her.

And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night The girl couldn't be more than twenty, but she didn't seem too clued up on her animals. Zach wondered if she'd skipped Care of Magical Creatures at school. He knew not everyone liked the subject, but he couldn't deny that his first impression of a person would go down considerably if it started off on the wrong paw. Anyone who wasn't an animal fan, wasn't for Zach. Judgemental? Yes. Did he care? No. Was this anything to do with the girl beside him? Probably not. She was in a pet shop quizzing him about a bird, she was doing alright so far. Plus she was cute, he could never fault a woman for that. His hands were stuffed in his pockets, but he reached one out to poke a finger through the bars of one of the raven cages, getting a shifty look in response as the bird hopped further back to get away from him. Lovely. "Oh, is that how it is?" he huffed at the creature, moving his hand away and giving it a look of disapproval. He considered the girl's question carefully before answering. "They're not too shabby," he said with shrug. "They can get distracted easier than owls, but if you put in the time to train them, they're alright." He really wasn't selling this raven, was he? He honestly didn't care if she got one or not, it was nothing to do with Zach, but if it were him, he'd stick to good old fashioned owls. With them, you knew what you were getting. He'd heard stories of shredded mail, lost letters, and bits of small animal carcass being stuck to post when ravens were involved. That wasn't really how he liked his parcels to arrive, but each to their own. "Just curious, or thinking about getting one?" he asked, wondering if this was just for fun, or if she really wanted a giant arse jet-black bird to carry her mail for her. He didn't know this girl from Eve, she might have been the flashy sort who liked to show off with fancy things, and the thought annoyed him. Animals weren't status symbols, they deserved the right care and respect. Come to think of it, the more he thought about why this random young woman was looking at ravens, the more he was making himself dislike her, and he'd only exchanged three sentences with her so far. He needed to shut his brain up and just let her be without inventing things, like that she was an uncaring, cruel bitch who wanted to show off, and she hadn't taken Care of Magical creatures so she couldn't even look after the bird. None of those things were likely true, he was just being a prick, but at least he hadn't been thinking out loud. He did that sometimes, and boy did it get him in hot water. People tended to not like it when you spewed verbal diarrhoea about their flaws and inadequacies right to their faces. It was funny, they seemed to much prefer that you be a bitch about them when they don't know about it. People were weird. Anyway, this girl and her birds weren't his problem. He glanced back over to the counter to see the queue had only gone down by two people and was still nearly out the door. Damn. Zach picked up a tub of owl pellets and read the label to make sure they were the right ones. He might as well pick up a few extra bits while he was here. _______________________ tag: Jasmine Cherry Moon words: 630 notes: <3 outfit: Just look at him. template by izzy[googlefont="Nanum Brush Script"][googlefont="Cinzel Decorative"]

The bloke seemed a bit barmy, in Jazzy's opinion. He willing shoved a finger through the bars of a raven cage and then he spoke to it like the bloody thing was going to answer him back. Outright crazy! Still, he was hot so crazy was certainly something she could overlook. She snogged Killian for Merlin's snake and he was eccentric! Good snogger though. This guy was handsome, no doubt he'd had a fair share of girls in his time and was probably an incredible snogger himself. Or maybe he was one of those guys that was so good looking, no one had ever bothered to tell him that he sucked. Perhaps he was the same in the sack. Jazzy did wonder but she wasn't going to jump into the nearest bed or broom closet with him. She wasn't that kind of girl. Usually. Snogging sure. Beyond that? Well she really did prefer to know a guy first. She wasn't a total whore, just a little bit she supposed. "Fun" was the way she preferred to phrase it though. For some reason "whore" had such negative connotations associated with it.
Time to train a bird. Jazzy didn't really have much of that. She was glad to have the guy there and helping her out but it didn't really matter how much information he gave her, a raven would look really cool and so she was probably going to bloody well get herself a ravens. Sleek and beautiful with a sharp beak. Sounded pretty and cool which was what she was after but she didn't want a poorly trained pet that wasn't going to deliver mail to the wrong place or get distracted by a slug or something. "Thinking 'bout getting one." She tilted her head to look at the raven. It was really unappealing now the guy was telling her the faults of the bird. "Is there anything positive about a raven over an owl? I mean, why do they sell them if owls are just superior?" She figured to make money from people like her. People that wanted an awesome looking pet! They were really quite impressive creatures up close, but they weren't practical, but then why was she going to get one!? Perhaps she was over thinking this. She thought the raven was cool so maybe she should just get it. She supposed this guy would help her decide once and for all.

And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night She admitted that she was thinking about getting a raven, and Zach honestly couldn't have given less of a hoot. No pun intended. He just hoped the poor bird was taken care of properly. A young girl with grand visions in her head was all well and good, but if she couldn't meet the needs of her pet, she really might as well not get one at all. But, he didn't have a clue about her animal knowledge, or her ability to care for one, and the ravens weren't his responsibility. This wasn't his shop, though if it were, he'd have more than one bloody person manning the counter. The queue was still long, though it had gone down by at least five people by now. Zach gave the shop owner an impatient look and got a harried wave of the hand back. If he had to wait much longer, he'd expect a free bag of niffler biscuits thrown in to sweeten the deal. Speaking of Niffler treats. Zach moved to the girl's other side to peruse a shelf full of small bags and tubs of random pet treats, picking up a couple of different tubs until he found the right one. Gold Bicks, they were called. He'd never tried them before, or more to the point, his Niffler hadn't, but he'd been told that they were a great way of calming the creatures down and getting them under control when they were running amok. The picture depicted a bright gold square biscuit, and he wondered what they'd taste like. Curiosity getting the better of him, he popped the lid open and picked up a small biscuit, throwing it into his mouth and giving it a thoughtful chew. Huh. They were sweet. Not bad. Deciding they'd be worth a try, if only for the way they shimmered like real gold when the light hit them, he clicked the lid back on the tub and kept hold of it, pausing to stare at a raven as the girl asked him if there was anything positive he could tell her about the birds, and why were they sold if owls were better. Zach thought for a second, lips pursed, then shrugged. "They're really fucking pretty." he told her. _______________________ tag: Jasmine Cherry Moon words: 411 notes: <3 outfit: Just look at him. template by izzy[googlefont="Nanum Brush Script"][googlefont="Cinzel Decorative"]

So it seemed there was nothing beyond how they looked. If they weren't going to be of any use actually delivering a letter then Jazzy was less sure about getting one. While she was at Hogwarts she was only technically allowed one animal and she had her cat, but an owl wouldn't necessarily be noticed really and it didn't have to stay at the castle the same way a cat did. She could pass an owl off as her sister's anyway, or a family one. It would be fine. She could get away with an owl but could she risk a raven? She was starting to think maybe not. But it was so pretty! As the bloke that was making his way around eating pet treats had said 'really fucking pretty'. Jazzy supposed she could always get one in a few more months once she'd graduated. Perhaps have an entire aviary of pretty birds. She'd probably save a small fortune on quills too if she were to have a bunch of pretty and exotic birds. Was a peacock too much? Could they fly? Perhaps this bloke would know, although she didn't much fancy asking what with him digging into gold snacks designed for nifflers. Her was definitely a bit barmy this one.
"Well then thanks are in order, I guess, Mr ..." He'd not yet introduced himself, he'd just started blathering on about ravens and nibbling on bloody treats. Such a strange guy for someone so hot. It was a shame really but even Jazzy didn't think she'd be able to snog a face like that after he'd scoffed half a box of Gold Bricks. Well okay, so it wasn't half a box, but even if it had been, she probably would still snog his face off. You didn't come across many men that handsome. There were plenty of good looking guys around but he was certainly a league of his own which was probably good for him. Very good for him. He probably saw a lot if action, Jazzy was willing to bet. An what was the betting that he was gay? That would probably be just about her luck right now, or that he'd not be at all interested. Nah, if he wasn't interested in a hot little bombshell like here then he was clearly not into women at all and that was fine if that was the case, she could live with that.

And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night She sounded way too posh and almost forced when she thanked him and hinted that she wanted to know his name. Zach still never thought of himself much as a mister. He got called that at work, and at the dentist, and other shitty places, but in the middle of a shop full of bird shit and cat vomit, he honestly didn't feel much like a mister at all. Besides, he was just Zach. Putting a title in front of it was so formal and stuffy, and Zach was neither of those things as a rule. He rebelled against both, in fact. "Zach," he said simply, having no idea what he'd done to deserve thanks. As far as he was aware all he'd done was tell her that Raven's were rubbish compared to owls. The girl seemed to think that was helpful in some way, and so he didn't bother to burst her bubble. He also didn't bother to ask her what her name was. Was he supposed to do that? Was making friends with a young girl in a pet shop the done thing these days? Zach would have thought he'd come across as a bit of a pervert, being older, and his instincts told him to watch his own back rather than be overly polite. You never knew who could accuse you of what and this girl looked young. Not illegal young, but still. "If you get one, don't name it after me," he added, eyeing up a raven and thinking that Zachary the raven sounded like some deranged kids imaginary friend. He had a cousin who used to have an imaginary friend, and since being sucked into the wizarding world, Zach had discovered that the pictures Billy used to draw when they were kids looked scarily like Dementors. He wondered if Billy had magic too for a while, but he'd never gotten a letter from Hogwarts, so it must have just been a coincidence. Zach had never told Billy, he didn't really want to put the shits up his cousin by telling him the creepy imaginary friend he used to talk about was real and scary as all hell. Zachary the raven was a much better version. _______________________ tag: Jasmine Cherry Moon words: 405 notes: <3 outfit: Just look at him. template by izzy[googlefont="Nanum Brush Script"][googlefont="Cinzel Decorative"]

Zach? Was that really his name or was he attempting to sound cool and edgy? Of course someone named Zach would be in the middle of shop, offering unsolicited advice and then eating pet food so it suited him in a way. Jazzy figured she only had a few more months of Hogwarts left, after her NEWT's she was going to be a world famous quidditch star and she could get all the ravens she wanted. Hell, a whole flock would look badass indeed! She'd even find out who this Zach person was and see if she could get him over to her place to witness her wondrous flock of ravens. What was a flock of ravens even called? If crows were a murder, were ravens a victim? And why the heck would she show off a bunch of ravens to a random guy she'd just met? She didn't care if she saw this guy ever again or not, he was strange, he randomly approached women and he ate pet food from the shelves and seemed to hang around like a bee to pollen.
"No need to worry about that." Because Zach was a ridiculous name for a raven, "If I was going to name an animal after you it'd probably be a hedgehog." She told him, strolling away to the cat food section, looking for treats for Shadow rather than getting a raven. Prickly, beady little eyes, eat just about anything, edgy. Yep, Zach was definitely a name for a hedgehog. Perhaps she'd get a hedgehog after graduation. They were kind of cute and she already had a name picked out.

And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night "A hedgehog?" Zach was taken aback. What the hell was she trying to say? Was there something wrong with his hair? He picked up a shiny tin food bowl from a nearby shelf and checked his appearance in it. His entire head was warped in the reflection, but his hair was definitely not reminiscent of a hedgehog. He looked as Goddamn good looking as he had when he'd left his house this morning. Raven girl must have hit her head on something. Maybe she had eyesight problems. That must have been it. She'd left her glasses at home and went on a crazy shopping rampage, obsessing over ravens. Weird. Deciding that he'd had enough of waiting around and entertaining lunatics, he chucked the bowl back on the shelf and turned and marched towards the counter. "Timmy! I want my stuff!" he demanded loudly, not caring that the people already in the queue were giving him dirty looks. "I've got places to be. You've got my money, gimme the goods." He held his hand out, fingers beckoning towards the man who looked more than a little bit alarmed at the change in Zach's mood. "Keep yer hair on, Zeller, I'm comin'," Timmy grunted. Zach gaped, nostrils flaring with annoyance at the flippant comment, which unfortunately hit a nerve after Raven girl and her comments. "Keep my- there's nothing wrong with my hair!" he snapped, green eyes blazing as Timmy rummaged around under the counter and pulled out a large hemp bag filled to the brim with pet supplies. He passed it across the counter to Zach, who took it and peered inside to make sure everything was there. "It's all there," Timmy assured him. Zach huffed. "Seeya next week," he said, now in a mood, and began to squeeze his way through the people lined up waiting to be served. He passed Raven girl on his way to the door. "Good luck with your damn birds," he said, the bell jingling violently as he left the shop, glancing up and down the street. He was tempted to get another pie to cheer himself up, but he headed towards The Leaky Cauldron instead, ready to go home and take a long shower and check his hair properly. Hedgehog.
