I am a responsible adult now, let's go get some candy
Another day, another mediocre training session. It was so bloody repetitive. Humbert kept insisting they do the same thing over and over and over until they showed proficiency in the defensive spells and fighting moves they were working on. And that was after hours of sitting in lectures and taking quizzes about the most mind-dumbing legal protocols, laws, and enforcement codes. It was like being back at Hogwarts only here he didn’t have his best mates with him and ogling the pretty witches who passed through his line of sight got him a lecture from the instructor. He needed a drink.
Showering with the rest of the cadets (only the blokes, sadly, the witches had their own locker room), he brought up the idea of popping out to a pub which was unceremoniously shot down.
“It’s a Tuesday, mate. I’ve got shit to be getting on with, haven’t I?”
“Nah, I’ve got studying to do. How ‘bout this weekend?”
“With you? Fuck that!”
Rejection didn’t bother Sirius. Lily had rejected him plenty of times and look how well that had turned out – she was married to his best mate. Exactly as he had planned it. Sirius dressed and ran his fingers through his still wet hair, deciding if it was worth asking any of the witches here out for a drink or if he ought to just go home and ring up James or Peter to see if they’d shirk their adult responsibilities to hang with him in the middle of the week. He wouldn’t bother asking Remus, knowing he’d probably get a lecture about not doing the required reading that he’d been putting off for a week now.
Exiting the wizard’s locker room, Sirius strolled through the hall unperturbed by how far behind he was in his marks compared to the rest of the trainees. Only about half the trainees were expected to make it to graduation but Sirius was already so far behind it was almost humorous. He just needed to dazzle the female instructors enough to even the playing field. He was confident it wouldn’t be a problem. He passed the entrance to the witch’s locker room and slowed, unable to see inside the doors and not actually attempting to sneak a peek. Still mulling over his plans for the evening, he caught sight of a face he knew would be needed a night off, even if it was a Tuesday and they were expected back here bright and early in the morning. “Dearborn, hey, wait up.” He called after Lunete, trotting after her like a puppy with a bone as she walked in the opposite direction.

Life had been slow and gradual. Every day seemed like an effort to get through. Lunete could hardly believe that at one point she thought she was going to get through it all with just a little help. But that was before the break up. After Julian had broken up with her life had certainly started to get worse but that was on her. She'd stopped eating and only cried herself to sleep. She missed Tristan and his death had stirred up so many emotions from when she'd lost her mother, then Julian had broken up with her just as she thought she was getting better, and she just couldn't be bothered any more. Doc practically had to throw her in the shower, Perce practically spoon fed her, her dad did all her laundry, and Lionel had been her company to keep her sane, even when she hadn't wanted any. Her family had really rallied around her and once she returned to work Kit seemed to be keeping watch over her. She felt as though it was all a little overboard but for that first week after her break up she'd not left her room apart from using the toilet. She had her room at the top of the house, she had her training spaces and study areas, a spare room she used as a wardrobe and dressing room, and her own bathroom there too so there was no reason for anyone to be up there, but of course they were, because they were concerned for her.
Getting back into work had been a tough decision. She'd nearly given it all up but she knew she had to carry on. She'd just started her third year of training and she knew Trist would have wanted her to carry on, so would her mum. Seeing Agent Humbert had been strange at first, but there very few ways in which he reminded her of Julian. They were brothers, but beyond that knowledge there was nothing similar about the two. The way they spoke, the way they sounded, the way they moved, the way they dressed, everything was different, and so thankfully Lunete was not distracted for long by Agent Humbert. She wasn't even put off by the chattering she'd noticed upon her return. Perhaps she was being paranoid but she was certain a few people had a few things to say about her behind her back but she ignored them and carried on.
Despite not being sure if she'd return or not, Lunete had been faced with a hard task. During her absence at the ministry the Minister herself had passed away. An untimely death that was undoubtedly linked to the Death Eaters. During that time things seemed to have changed and, for some reason, there seemed to be concern over whether or not Lunete could do her job or not. She was bereaved, that was the reasoning behind it, but before she could get back into her training, get back on the job, she was tested. She passed, even though her tester seemed to make it entirely more difficult than it probably needed to be, but she did it and it was something that made her even more driven to succeed in. She knew what was happening. The ministry was being run by Aurelius Avery, a man with no claim to the position of Minister, and yet there he was. She'd heard tales of muggleborns being fired, of half bloods being intimidated. She'd hoped that it was exaggerating but it seemed not. She too was forced to prove she belonged but she was waiting for the time they came for her, tried to kick her from the ministry or even do to her what they'd done to Tristan. She couldn't let that deter her. She would carry on regardless of what they put her through and she would not back down. As she walked the hallway, thinking of how life had changed so drastically in just a few months, she heard her name called. Loose dark hair swept quickly over her shoulder as she turned her head to look at the man that had called her name, snapped from her thoughts she was ready to call an end to the day, to get out while she could, she didn't much like being in the ministry when she shouldn't have been there, they were looking for any excuses, she knew it, so she couldn't give them anything, not even a single inch. "Hey Black." She said, forcing a small smile though smiling was still the last thing she wanted to do these days, "What's up?"

Catching up with her, Sirius gave Lunete a real smile to counter her very obviously forced one. Even without having heard the details – some of which might have been little more than rumors – of what she’d been through recently, Sirius could tell her expression was false. A smile that didn’t reach the eyes was the tell-tale sign of insincerity. Having grown up around nothing but completely fake people, Sirius was well versed on reading beneath the surface of a person’s expression, but whereas his mother would have faked a smile with eyes saying clearly she was better than you, Lunete faked a smile with eyes saying she wanted to cry. That hurt to look at, especially from someone who had always been kind to him during their limited interactions.
She was a few years ahead in her training, but a lot of the physical aspects of the academy had the years working together. They split off for the lectures, the boring bits, but he had seen Lunete duel once before her brother’s death and then a few more times since her boyfriend dumped her. There was no comparison. Even if the rumors about who her boyfriend was (Agent Humbert’s brother!?) or how her brother had died weren’t exactly true, Sirius was willing to bet there was enough truth in what he’d heard to justify the lack of fire he’d seen since first watching Lunete defend herself against two trainees at once. “I was heading out to the pub down the street, and thought you might be up for a pint?” he asked, flashing her a dazzling smile that worked on all the ladies. Okay, most of the ladies. Well, some of the ladies, but enough to still be impressive.

The pub? Lunete hadn't gone out in such a ling time that she'd kind of forgotten what it was like. The last time she'd been out unrelated to work was Tristan's funeral and being dumped. It wasn't like she was avoiding it on purpose, she just hadn't wanted to go anywhere or do anything. Sure life was starting to get back to some semblance of normal. Typically that would be with friends but Lunete knew that she'd not been herself around them for a while and she wasn't sure they'd even want to hang out with her right now, she was practically a shadow of her former self, but hanging out with Black? That didn't seem like a great idea while she was like .. whatever she was like. She couldn't imagine she'd be all that fun. He must have had dozens of people he could have hung out with for the evening, and not to mention they had work the following day. "A pint?" She repeated, like it was some kind of foreign language he'd been speaking. "I dunno." She said, realising that she was being a bit of an arse when he was just being nice, "I'm not exactly great company at the moment, y'know." She wasn't going to go into more detail than that, half the department probably already knew about everything going on in her life and so there wouldn't be any need to expand on that. Even if Black had no clue, he'd probably have known she wasn't her usual self these days. They didn't have much to do with one another at Hogwarts, nor now they were graduated, but she saw him about in the common room, she saw him about in training but that didn't make them drinking buddies.

What made a drinking partner a great one depended on the occasion. In this case, Sirius needed a drinking buddy that would drink. Lunete could drink, therefore she checked the only necessary box. But Lunete needed a drinking buddy who could help her shake off a bit of whatever it was that had her looking like she’d rather crawl into a hole for a year, and that was definitely where Sirius would shine. “I think you’ll be great company,” he countered. “You’re already doing the trick. Look at this smile.” He gave her a toothy, cheesy grin. “I wasn’t beamin’ like this a minute ago. That’s all you, doll.” Okay, now he was starting to sound like a used broomstick salesman. He reined himself in a bit. It was obvious that while Sirius wanted to go out for the hell of it, to blow off some steam after a monotonous day of getting his arse handed to him by Agent Humbert, Lunete really did need to get out. Whether it was for a drink or a shag or just some sodding fresh air, the once fiery Auror trainee had been reduced to a sad little lump of a thing and her expression now as she tried to feign interest and sincerity made Sirius want to push a little harder to talk her into it. A bit for his own selfish reasons, but mostly this chick just needed to shake things up. Sirius was a marvelous shaker. “Come on. One drink, on me, and if I bore you into wanting to leave then at least you got a free drink out of it, right? Couldn’t hurt.” He winked at her and then raised his eyebrows, waiting for her to give in to the possibility of a good time.

There wasn't really much arguing that Lunete could do and truthfully she didn't want to. It wasn't because she wanted to go out but more because she didn't have the energy to resist these days. She offered a kind of weak smile and shrugged her shoulders a bit, "Okay," Her head nodded softly as she spoke. There was no point in trying to just go home, what was waiting for her there? Nothing worth blowing off company for really but she still would have rather gone home. It was a strange sensation and it kind of felt as though Lunete was just giving up with the world although it was hard to tell. She was carrying on, going through the motions of everyday life and she was even back to work. There wasn't a lot to do other than work and go home, check on her dad, hang with her brothers if they had the time. Lunete kind of felt like a burden and she hoped Sirius wasn't asking her out for a drink because of pity, if she found out it was a pity drink then there was a strong chance that she'd not come in for work tomorrow, or potentially for the rest of the week.
“So where are we going?” She asked. It was a Tuesday, it wasn’t as if there was much happening on a Tuesday. It would just be one of the regular sort of spots like the Leaky, although Lunete wouldn’t put it past Sirius to know if there was something worthwhile going on at a quiet, undiscovered pub somewhere. Usually a night out would have been something she’d have jumped at, she would have had a good time, but there was no telling what she’d be like tonight. She supposed she’d just have to wait and see.

She was in, though she didn’t look pleased about it. He could change that. Of that he was certain. “Brilliant,” he said cheerfully, wrapping his arm casually around her shoulder, making sure not to let his hand slide too close to anywhere she might interpret as him putting the moves on her. He might try that later, much later, like on another day where she didn’t look like she wanted to die, but right now the physical contact was just as friends despite not really being to that point. Yet. “Just a little muggle hole in the wall nearby, but if you find yourself having fun I’ve got a few other options locked and loaded for later in the evening.” He looked at her, a sincere expression on his face. “No pressure, just puttin’ it out there.”
Sirius took her to the muggle pub down the street from the Ministry offices. It wasn’t anything posh but it also wasn’t a total dive bar. They had darts and billiards, a jukebox currently playing some garbage top 40s track when it should have been playing the Cure or something less shitty, and of course, booze. “You get us started,” he said, grabbing a handful of darts off an open board and putting them on the table in front of her, “I’ll get our drinks.” The song switched over and disco music began to play. Sirius sneered visibly. “And we’re picking the next four songs, bloody hell! Any requests?” Anything would have been better than this garbage, though given enough time and liquor and Sirius would be standing on the tables singing Dancing Queen for the whole place to hear - knowing all the words by heart.

With a bit of light chit-chat on the way, Lunete decided she didn't mind Sirius too much. It was strange to think that he was an Auror in training, really strange, because he just seemed too .. Lunete wasn't sure what the word would be, but she supposed the closest she could think of was 'immature'. So many people left Auror training with the odds really stacked against you from the beginning, but Lunete was putting forth as much effort as she could muster and she guessed it really took all sorts to get through training. If you could find light and laughter in what you were doing then that was probably the best way forward, it was certainly a damn sight better than what she was doing which was essentially just going through the motions of existing. It took talks with her dad and Doc for her to decide that she'd stick with her training, to make sure she'd see it through the the end. She was in her final year and she was able to kick some serious arse despite still looking like a school girl, so yeah, she was able to finish her third year of Auror training.
The bar was alright, nothing special and she'd certainly been to worse. It wasn't often that Lunete went out into the world and drank, especially not on a work night, but she was in needed of a little more spontaneity and definitely more fun. She hadn't thought she'd be out finding fun with Sirius Black of all people but as he placed the darts in front of her, Lunete supposed she could have a good night of it all. "Uhm," she thought for just a second but nothing really sprang to mind, "The Buzzcocks or Sex Pistols maybe?" It would all depend on what they had. Lunete didn't mind what was on at the moment, her musical range was all over the place, enjoying anything catchy, but it certainly wasn't to Sirius' tastes so she guessed something entirely different would suit his tastes better and maybe something a little heavier than disco, along with throwing some darts and having a few drinks, would be cathartic for a while.
Standing with her set of red and white winged darts, Lunete took to the blackboard to the side of the dartboard and picked up the chalk that sat in the little aluminium tray. She wrote 'Nete' in one column and 'Black' in the other, not sure if Sirius preferred his first name or surname and despite being out for drinks, she wasn't really sure they were on a first name basis. There was a time when she would have just written whatever first came to mind regardless, hell she might even have been a little flirty with it, but that was far from her mind right now, instead she stood back from the board, rotating her right wrist, and took a few practice shots, taking her aim for the small red line on the twenty and missing, though thankfully not by too much, she just needed a little more warming up.

Lunete offered a few alternative bands to pop into the jukebox and he let out a big smile in her direction. “That’s my girl.” He pointed at Lunete approvingly, then spoke to the room as a whole, though no one seemed to pay him much mind. “Let’s get some real tunes happening here, chaps.” Anyone who would recommend the Sex Pistols was alright in Sirius’ book. Shoving his hand in his trouser pocket, Sirius grabbed a fistful of coins as he headed toward the jukebox. Inspecting the contents, he picked out the few muggle coins he happened to have on him and slid them into the coin slot. What Do I Get was first in the queue, followed by World War, London Calling, and then Whatcha Gonna Do About It. A nice little mix that ought to keep the vibes of this place a little more authentic than KC and the Sunshine Band.
Returning triumphantly to the table with two pint glasses full to the brim as the Buzzcocks sounded throughout the pub, Sirius set the drinks down with an expectant grin. “Didn’t I tell ya we’d have fun?” They hadn’t done much of anything yet, but the company and the atmosphere was already doing wonders for Sirius’ mood. Hopefully it was having a similar effect on Miss Weepy. Dark eyes trailing over to the dart board and the accompanying scoreboard, Sirius tilted his head, furrowed his brow ever so slightly, then gave an approving nod. “Nete Black, huh? Has a nice ring to it, but you’ll have to buy me a dinner first. I’m old fashioned like that.” He put his hand to his chest, mimicking what he thought a dainty witch might look like if she were turning down a suitor. Taking a big swig from his beer, Sirius grabbed the black tipped darts. “Right, ladies first.” He gestured for her to start the game, mumbling the words to the song from behind her.

A quick flash of a faulting grin spread over Lunete's lips as Sirius approved of her choice of song. She wasn't usually so tame and boring - at least she didn't think so - but having met Julian and having had her heart absolutely crushed after losing her brother so suddenly only a couple of years after losing her mother had made her a little timid, something that wasn't really something an Auror should have been. It would probably work in favour for her during undercover cases, she supposed. She looked younger than she was and she had an innocent look. She was someone that could go by unnoticed really, especially with this strange new personality she seemed to have adopted in all her heartbreak.
Sirius was back in no time and Lunete took her pint. It looked ridiculously large in her small hands but she was able to put away a pint or two with no problems. It was the third one when things would usually get a little more fun, but she hoped that at least this one would loosen her up a bit and help her enjoy the night. Perhaps a work-night piss-up was exactly what she needed. Or maybe she just needed to stick to a couple of drinks and then head home. Probably the safer option considering they had work in the morning.
Looking back to the board where she'd put her name and Sirius' Lunete took a second to twig what he'd been on about but when it struck her shoulders visibly relaxed as she laughed and shook her head, "I'll keep that in mind." She said with regards to buying him dinner before getting hitched to a guy with quite the reputation of being a 'ladies man'.
Lunete approached the standing line with her darts and took her stance. She wasn't too sure on what was right but this felt okay. Her practice shots hadn't been far off but as she took her first shot at the dart board, it seemed her practice shots may have been flukes. The first dart didn't even land on the board but rather the board the dartboard was hung against. "I'm just leading you into a false sense of superiority," She told Sirius, nodding her head as if this was all part of the plan, "First I do terribly," She said, looking back to the board, aiming for the triple twenty, drawing her right arm back and then tossing the dart, failing spectacularly once more by hitting outside of the numbers but at least on the dartboard, "Then later I'll take you for all you've got." She chuckled. Lunete threw her last dart, hitting almost hitting the number one but still just outside of anywhere you could be given points so she approached the dart board, took out the darts and put a dash on the scoreboard under her name, thinking a dash looked far better than a giant zero. After she was done putting up her score she returned to the table, "Beat that." She chuckled, picking up her drink and taking a mouthful.

Sirius made obnoxiously fake “ahh” and “damn” sounds as Lunete took her turn, feigning that she was clearly just having an off throw. She was wretched but he wouldn’t make her feel bad about it. He liked that she could play up on herself as well, making light out of her awful go by claiming to be using a bait and switch tactic. “I dunno,” Sirius said cautiously. “I didn’t know I had invited a ringer out tonight.” He swallowed a large gulp of his beer as it was his turn to throw, and headed for the line on the floor in front of the board. “Alright, let me show you how a real wizard plays.” Taking aim for the triple twenty, Sirius pulled back his right arm and threw the dart toward the board where it landed far off point in the nine section. “Bugger. Err, I mean, yea. Take that, Dearborn.” He chuckled over his shoulder at her and then repositioned himself for another throw. By the end of his turn, he had thirteen points and wrote it confidently on the scoreboard. “My lucky number,” he explained dancing and singing his way back over to their table to have another drink.

Lunete made her way to her drink as Sirius picked up the dart. He took a knowing stance and prepared to throw. He looked like he knew what he was doing and Lunete felt as though she was about to become annihilated but surprisingly, Sirius wasn't as skilled at the game as Lunete was expecting. She laughed quietly into her drink but she couldn't laugh too much, at the end of his round he had thirteen points and that was a damn sight better than her zero points. Lunete finished her mouthful as Sirius made his way back to the table. Lunete's head bounced ever so slightly to the music as she stood up and made her way to the dart board with her darts. She put in less effort this time. She looked at where she wanted the dart to go - the triple twenty - and she just threw the blasted thing. Her first dart landed on the double one. Lunete was surprised to have hit so close to the 20 but two points? She needed to do better than that.
Pints were drunk, darts were thrown, and the music had played on. Lunete threw her dart, it was their ninth round and she was behind by twenty three points. She'd actually been hitting the dartboard although not always landing on a number. Sirius seemed to have a good run but the playful smack talk had died out, mostly because Lunete felt there was no way she was going to be able to win this. Dart one. Dart two. Dart three. Six points total that she got to add to the scoreboard. That only put her 17 points behind Sirius but he still had another go. "How many rounds are there supposed to be?" She asked, sitting herself down in her spot, picking up her fresh pint and taking a sip. This was their ninth round but how many were there supposed to be in a game of darts?
