An Idle Mind
The summer brought with it droves of teenagers filling shops and restaurants, and crowding streets, it was enough to tire the most patient of souls. It was still nice to get out and about, though, and especially nice with the summer sun blazing overhead, bringing smiles to the faces of everyone in Hogsmeade. The path was lined with bluebells and crocus flowers, little white drops hanging from their green stems, brightening up the journey into the small wizarding village. He had no needs for the day. He'd had breakfast, and so wasn't yet hungry, he had all of his notebooks and quills still stocked up from his last visit to Scrivenshafts a while back, and he didn't have enough of a sweet tooth to dive into Honeydukes like a lot of the other visitors to the small village did. If he was with friends he would have gone for a butterbeer in the Three Broomsticks, but as it was, Johnny was alone today, his friends all off doing other things. He was fine with that, not the overly clingy sort, he enjoyed being able to go his own way, and his own way when he was bored, meant the book shop.
Tomes and Scrolls was nowhere near as beautiful or full of character as Flourish and Blotts in Diagon Alley, but it still did the trick for a book lover, and his thought that the village would be mostly avoided by students over the summer had been mostly right, it was quiet today. Inhaling the scent of parchment deeply, Johnny paused in the doorway of the shop, listening to the tinkling bell fade out over his head above the door. He didn't have any particular books in mind, already having every veterinary book he needed, so he would be browsing for pleasure today, something that could take quite a while. It wasn't long until lunch time, but he'd happily skip a meal to have a thorough look around at all of the tomes on offer, and so he began pacing up and down the aisles, scanning the genres and the titles for something that might jump out at him.
Fiction was a surprising favourite of his. His friends had at first pegged him as the type to like educational books, things he could learn from, factual stuff, but Johnny secretly adored the escape fiction gave him. People tended to forget that he was a muggle, and all of this magic stuff was the ride of a lifetime to him, every single thing he could learn and absorb about this incredible world was special to him, and so yes, he did love a good book full of facts about magic, and things to learn, but he was without a doubt somebody who very much enjoyed the pull of a different world, a bit of magic, something exciting and new. He didn't brag about it, nor did he let on to people these days that magic was still a thrill to him, he had grown to act far more cool about it than he had in his first year at school, but it was definitely still an exciting ride for him.

London was busy. Far busier than Caradoc was willing to face and yet he and Lunete were in need of a few things. The premature death of Tristan had shocked them all and there was no telling who it had hit the hardest. Caradoc had lost his closest friend, their dad had lost his son, and Lunete had lost another family member. Caradoc knew that his sister was stronger than he liked to think but it was hard to think of her as anything but fragile right now. She wanted to move forward, carry on with life. She'd said that Tristan wouldn't want his death to hold her back from doing what she wanted in life - and she was right, he wouldn't have wanted that, but Caradoc wanted to keep her safe. He'd even tried gently trying to persuade her to try for Quidditch again, to follow her original dream, but she was having none of it. She was stubborn at the best of times.
Offering to go out for her Caradoc decided to come to Hogsmeade. Lunete was in need of a few supplies for her job and Caradoc didn't like the idea of his sister being in Hogsmeade. They'd just lost a brother and Hogsmeade was where they'd lost Paris. Not they as the Dearborn family but 'they' as the Order family. The idea of losing Lunete in Hogsmeade was all too real and painful. There were plenty of other locations to go shopping but honestly, they were just all too busy. Caradoc felt much more comfortable in Hogsmeade, trying to keep his sister safe from harm by doing menial tasks to help her out, even though he knew he couldn't keep it up, because she simply wouldn't let him.
Entering Tomes and Scrolls Caradoc took off to his favourite shelves first, looking as he always did at anything and everything Historical. While he had hated History of Magic lessons, he'd actually loved the subject itself. Learning about magic, about the battles, about witches and wizards that had made the world what it was just inspired him. He picked out a book, just the one and then made his way around the shop, just browsing before he spotted a familiar sight. Johnny Townsend. It had been too long since he'd spoken with him. He'd seen Johnny at Trissy's funeral but they'd missed the opportunity to talk and it wouldn't have done him any good, Johnny would only have brought him to tears, and possibly vice verse. "Johnny?" He said softly, "Johnny." He said again, walking forward at a quick pace, reaching the young man and practically throwing his arms around him, patting him heavily on the back with his free hand.

An Idle Mind Johnny was beginning to wonder if there was something wrong with him. By now, he usually would have had at least two books picked out to purchase, but his hands were empty, and it had been a good twenty minutes since he had started looking. The trouble was, he already owned most of the books on the shelves in front of him. Maybe Flourish and Blotts might have been a better choice for him, after all. He tilted his head to read the titles on the spines at the next shelf, and frowned, sure he had heard someone murmur his name. He turned to look around the quiet shop, but there was nobody either side of him. Turning fully now, he had just enough time to register Doc Dearborn charging towards him with a huge grin on his face before he was pulled into a rough hug. "Doc!" Johnny exclaimed, embracing the older man happily and thumping him on the back with enthusiasm. He pulled away to look at Doc, Johnny's hand gripping the back of the other man's head as he studied Doc's face. "How are you doing?" he asked, gaze intense, knowing Doc had recently lost a brother. It had been a while since they'd seen each other, so Johnny had no idea how he was faring after Tristan's death. He hadn't seen Lunete for a while, either, though he had sent an owl and some flowers for her, saying how sorry he was and that if she ever needed a friend he would always be available as a shoulder to cry on. Not that he wanted her to cry, she was a tough cookie, but grief was a bitch, and he was a great listener. Doc, on the other hand, was the eldest, he was expected to cope better than his siblings, but he looked tired. "How's Midnight?" he went on, letting go of Doc's head but keeping a friendly hand on his arm as he enquired about the horse. "She hasn't had any more trouble since I cleared her out, has she?" The last time the two men had seen each other was at Doc's home, when Johnny had had to stick his whole arm up Midnight's bum to give her a horse enema when she was constipated. It hadn't been the most glamorous time, and Johnny hoped she was alright so that he wouldn't have to do it again. He had showered three times that night, unable to settle feeling like he had horse dung embedded into his skin, despite the long gloves he had worn. _______________________ tag: Caradoc Bernard Dearborn words: 450 notes: <3 template by izzy[googlefont="La Belle Aurore"]

"Oh man," He said with a heavy sigh. It was a tough question to answer because really, how was he doing? Physically he was fine, he'd lost a little weight from all the stress but he still had a full head of hair! So that wasn't a good answer. Mentally he was a bit of a wreck. He was even more protective of his loved ones than he'd already been. He was splitting his time between his place and his dad's and it was tough. He now got why Lunete had stayed home after their mother had died and he felt a little guilty that he hadn't made more of an effort to visit their dad. Was it ridiculous to move back home for a while? Yeah. Yeah, definitely. His dad was a tough cookie. He'd get through this. At least Caradoc had to keep telling himself that. He also had to encourage Lunete to fly free from the family home. He thought she was safe there but it seemed that she probably wasn't. As much as he loved his dad, and he knew the man would do anything for his children, he couldn't protect Lunete from Death Eaters and Lunete would only get herself caught up protecting their father. Neither Doc nor his father would want that no matter how much training Netty got as an auror. "That's a tough one." He chuckled.
The idea of Johnny shoulder deep up Midnight's arse was hilarious. Naturally Doc was distraught that his horse was so unwell but Johnny had come over the second Doc had needed him and sorted the problem out for her. It was not a glamorous job that he had but he made one heck of a difference. "She's well. Not long after you left I spoke to the lady I got her from, apparently her brother died of the same thing, the owner hadn't noticed he hadn't been in while and yeah," Doc trailed off with a sigh, "Swapped the food out like you recommended though, just in case and she's been fine ever since. No more issues besides her stubbornness." Her grinned. On the whole Midnight was wonderful, she was a fantastic horse but she could be as stubborn as a mule when the fancy took her. "Fingers crossed you don't have to reach back up there ever again." He chuckled but honestly, the sight of Johnny having to stand on a step and reach into his giant horse's arse was pretty funny, but Doc was pleased his horse was well now. Things could have gone pear shaped rather quickly but Johnny had stepped in and save his horses life. Doc had a moment after Johnny had left where he'd contemplated the worst case scenario and honestly, it brought him to tears thinking about losing Midnight. It was just another thing that he owed Johnny for.

An Idle Mind It was hard to know what to say to someone who had lost someone so close to them. Doc had lost a sibling. Johnny didn't have any siblings, so he could only really try to imagine what it must feel like, but his guess probably wasn't even half close to the reality of it. He nodded as Doc admitted it was tough to say how he was doing, but the good thing was that the guy was getting on with his life. He wasn't letting it get him down. It would be easy for anyone, really, to just shut down and let life slip through their fingers while they grieved, but Doc was here, nosing around a book shop, and that was brilliant. Johnny couldn't help but think perhaps it was best to just leave it there. There was no sense pushing it if Doc wasn't sure how to describe how he was doing. "You look well," Johnny told him, patting him on the arm before breaking contact completely. It was a small lie, the man had tired shadows beneath his eyes, but he looked better than the next man might if he was going through the same thing. He was beyond thrilled to hear that he had actually saved Midnight's life, and blew out a impressed breath at the news that the horse's sibling had died of the same thing. That felt good. Not good that Midnight had lost family, but good that Johnny had done something that had kept her from the same fate as her brother. Saving the life of any creature was the most wonderful feeling, and though he was near the end of his training, and had saved many an animal, it still felt new and fresh and exciting every time. "Oh, man," he shook his head, impressed. "I'm so happy to hear that she's doing well, then. And if I have to shove my hand up there again in the future, I'll be there," he said with a grin. "Maybe buy me a drink after," he laughed. "More history books?" Johnny asked, pointing at the single book Doc had in his hand. The man had a pretty extensive collection at home, Johnny had noticed - of course he was the type of person who nosed through other people's bookshelves when he visited their home - but it was nice to see someone having a passion for something. _______________________ tag: Caradoc Bernard Dearborn words: 420 notes: <3 template by izzy[googlefont="La Belle Aurore"]

Looking well was at least something, Doc supposed. Things could have been worse, or maybe Johnny was just being kind. Doc thought he looked alright, he'd been making sure he ate three meals a day, even on the days where he felt like eating nothing at all. He was strict with himself, he was pushing forward and he continued to do so no matter what he was feeling in of himself. He had to carry on, he had to hold up the family. Their father had lost his wife and now his son. Life wasn't fair to him. Lunete had lost her mother and her brother. Life was cruel. Doc and his remaining brothers had lost their mother too and their best friend. They could all rely on one another though, they could all keep each other strong. When one was having a down day, all they had to do was reach out to any of the others and the family would rally around them. It was what family did. They had to be there for one another, especially dad and Lunete.
"Man, if it ever happens again and you save her life I'll buy you a bloody brewery!" He laughed, "But not that bloody one in Coventry, right!?" He laughed - hard, recalling the incident that had taken place at the old bricked up building where a make shift brewery had been set up for a party. Merlin's bollocks everyone had been drunk but hey, what did people expect to happen when you literally were having a piss up in a brewery!? That sure as hell wasn't a night Doc was ever going to forget and without a doubt Doc knew that everyone that had been there would have some memory of the so called "Episode". Even those that had blacked out for a decent portion of the night still remembered parts of the "Episode" that had occurred and Doc wouldn't have had it any other way! It was certainly a bonding moment for everyone there and Doc could honestly say that he was still friends with everyone that had been there. Damn it had been one amazing night!

An Idle Mind Johnny burst into laughter, doubling over at the mention of Coventry. Boy, that had been a night to remember! He had been so drunk, he was surprised he remembered much about it at all, but he did. Maybe it was because he'd stuck to drinking that beer that tasted like piss, rather than the amber liquid that everyone else was raving over. Johnny didn't know his way around Coventry, and he'd had work the next morning, so he'd had to be sensible to some degree, but bloody hell, it had been a riot. He remembered dancing a lot, which wasn't so unusual for Johnny. He tended to dance unprompted after half a drink, and didn't give a toss who joined in or what anyone thought of him. Wiping a tear away, he tried to compose himself, and raised his head to look at Doc, who was still laughing loudly. "Definitely not Coventry, that was the most bizarre night!" he said, voice higher than usual. He blew out a long breath to try and calm his laughter, and straightened up a bit more. "I woke up the next morning wearing a bra," he cackled. "So many people had signed it, I'm sure your name is on there, I've still got it." The bra had been white to begin with, but at some point during the night, it had gotten grubbier and grubbier, and now it was a lovely shade of brown with alcohol stains all over it. He kept it in his attic with some other questionable keepsakes he had gathered over the years. There was no chance of anyone stumbling across them, but he liked to know they were there. "Did you ever get your boot back from Billy Binks?" he asked, launching into a fresh set of howls as he remembered Doc limping around the brewery looking for his lost shoe. One of the shop assistants appeared at the end of their aisle and gave them a look that told Johnny they were clearly making far too much noise, and he put a hand over his mouth, clearing his throat and trying to stop laughing, his shoulders hitching up and down with the effort. It would be typical of him to get kicked out of a book shop because of his antics with Doc Dearborn. _______________________ tag: Caradoc Bernard Dearborn words: 405 notes: <3 template by izzy[googlefont="La Belle Aurore"]

Bizarre was perhaps an understatement. His mate Freddy had woken up spooning a pig. It was certainly an evening full of regret for some but Doc was bloody glad he'd not done anything to humiliate himself beyond convincing people to drink pints out of his boot! And the hooking up with one Franny McSniddle who wasn't exactly Doc's type and had quite the honker on her, but she was a nice lass and there was no harm in a bit of drunken snogging and perhaps a little fondling. Or a lot. It was a good night, mostly, well worth remembering and Doc enjoyed having those memories with Johnny. This was the first time since Trissy died that he was actually enjoying himself. Sure he laughed and joked about with others but it just wasn't the same. Johnny really had a way of getting Doc out of his shell, even if Doc didn't have much of a shell to begin with.
At the mention of his boot, Doc too cracked up and straightened his face before they got kicked out of the shop, he wasn't sure why they were so serious here, it wasn't as if they were in a library! Still he was nothing if not respectful and so he tried his hardest to keep his voice to an appropriate level, despite his obvious excitement, reminiscing about the night of the brewery."Oh man! No! Well I did, but I had to throw it out anyway!" he said, which of course required an explanation, "Once I got it back it had it was wet, y'know, I kind of expected it after all the beers everyone had out of it," As if that wasn't crazy enough, the tale did go on, "But it turned out it was covered in piss. He'd only lost his way to the toilet in the night and decided to use the boot!" It was disgusting, and old Billy Binks, who really wasn't that old, had just handed it back like there was nothing the matter with it, "And upon further inspection what did I find? That pig Freddy Spatz had been slow dancing with all night and shit in it! How does a pig even aim that kind of thing!?" Doc cracked up again. He knew they'd be kicked out at this rate but honestly, it was completely worth it!

An Idle Mind Johnny was chuckling all the while Doc spoke, and just when he thought it couldn't get any worse, he let out a groan. "Oh, noooo!" he cringed, biting his fist as Doc explained how not only did his boot end up with human pee in it, but also pig shit, which was the real kicker. "You'd be surprised how clever pigs are. I can't believe Billy gave it back to you!" That didn't sound like such a far out concept for Billy Binks, though. The guy wasn't the sharpest tool in the box, and though he was a real fun time at parties, he was a bit daft when he was drunk, and Johnny always knew not to expect anything less than pig shit from him, though he never thought it would ever be a literal thing. He could only imagine the look on Doc's face when he'd been handed his boot back in that state, and he snorted again. Doc had one of those expressive faces that just made people laugh, it made Johnny laugh at least, and an image of last Christmas flashed through his mind. "Speaking of pigs, do you remember-" he sputtered through laughs as Doc's wildly bewildered face swam in his memory. "Do you remember tree shopping last year and that saleswoman had you cornered in the snow, trying to sell you more than a Christmas tree?" He began to howl with fresh laughter. "She had on the shortest skirt, and you just looked terrified. Your face was a picture!" Johnny had been browsing real trees in the field outside of the shop, and rounded one display of particularly tall trees to find Doc backed up against the outside of the building by Miss Piggy herself, blonde wig and all. Johnny had enjoyed the moment for a minute before calling out to Doc and basically saving him from a fate worse than death, but he would never forget the look on Doc's face as he tried to handle the woman. His stomach was beginning to hurt, and Johnny took a few deep breaths to try and get rid of the stitch that was stabbing into his ribs. A customer came into their aisle just then, and gave the two men a strange look, unsure of whether to be concerned or amused. Johnny cleared his throat and smiled at the woman, and she hurried on. "I think we're disturbing the peace," he chuckled. _______________________ tag: Caradoc Bernard Dearborn words: 422 notes: <3 template by izzy[googlefont="La Belle Aurore"]

Billy wasn't exactly a great bloke but even Doc had to admit he was surprised when he got his bloody boot back. Or more accurately his pissing boot. Or even shitting boot. Needless to say he threw them out. There was no way he was keeping something Billy had pissed in. The pig shit he could probably have handled but the piss? Uh-uh. That was too much for Doc to handle and he wasn't going to pay any money to get them professionally cleaned so they'd been binned. Well and truly gotten rid of because who the hell would try and save shoes that far gone? Not him.
Just the mention of 'pig' brought up a whole other conversation and the second that Johnny changed it, Doc knew what he was going to bring up. He felt embarrassed all over again. His stomach tied in knots while Johnny started doubling over in laughter. Doc smiled nervously, waiting for Johnny to get to it ... and there it was. Mention of that bloody woman from shopping last year. All he'd wanted was a sodding tree and there she was, trying to cop a feel! What the heck!? Doc had never been so uncomfortable in his life, pushing away hands that were heading precisely where he didn't want them heading. Johnny had certainly saved him but he was happy to try and move on from that memory and the disturbed patrons of the book shop got them on to a new topic, "Just a little." He chuckled. It was common for the two of them to get loud and rowdy together, especially when Doc had his brothers around too. Johnny was an only child but it didn't matter. When Johnny was around Doc and his brothers treated him like one of the family! "Come on, let me buy you a drink. Unless you've got somewhere better to be?" Doc headed to the front of the store to pay for his one book, his mind on that damn pig woman from Christmas. Merlin's beard he was willing to pay all the gold in his bank account to forget about that incident! Doc would have indulged in a few more books but running into Johnny was the perfect chance for a catch up, even if his mate had to run off elsewhere.

An Idle Mind "Not at all," Johnny replied happily as Doc asked if he had anywhere else to be. Let's head to the Three Broomsticks." A drink with an old friend was a much more appealing prospect than spending the day on his own. He did love his own company, but there were certain people that he always had all the time in the world for, and Doc Dearborn was one of them. He waited while Doc paid for his book, and then the two men headed out of the book shop together, strolling through the sunny village towards the Three Broomsticks. The pub had been such a familiar feature for him as a child, what with visiting every month on Hogsmeade weekends with his friends, but sitting in there as an adult felt unnatural. Wearing normal clothes in there felt bizarre. Drinking anything other than butterbeer in there was just the freakiest concept, but he didn't have to change everything, and he let Doc buy him a butterbeer, insisting on getting the next round as they found a table. Johnny took his seat, icy blue eyes darting about the room at the other patrons, who all seemed to be older while school was out for the summer. Students tended to go elsewhere while they had the opportunity, but the pub still did wonderful business without them, and there was hardly an empty table in the building. The window seats were all taken, but sitting in the middle of the room was just as interesting, with great opportunities for people watching, and listening in on interesting conversations in every direction. And yes, he was that kind of curious person who would eavesdrop on strangers and silently judge them, but nobody needed to know that. A lot of Johnny's innermost thoughts never made it to his mouth, but there was nothing too dark in there, despite his secretive nature. "So how is Flo doing?" he asked as he sipped his butterbeer, the cool, sweet liquid doing him wonders on a hot day like today. Everyone seemed to be wearing next to nothing, but Johnny had on jeans which were literally stuck to his legs under the table. He should have worn shorts or cooler pants, but it was too late for that now. He would have to settle for cool beverages and a bit of shade to keep himself comfortable. _______________________ tag: Caradoc Bernard Dearborn words: 415 notes: <3 template by izzy[googlefont="La Belle Aurore"]

Done with paying for his new book, Doc walked with Johnny to the Three Broomsticks. It was an all too familiar place for pretty much everyone in the British wizarding world. All those that went to Hogwarts and down to Hogsmeade on their weekends, knew of the friendly pub, and Hogsmeade, as the largest all wizarding settlement in the UK, had plenty of residents that would frequent the pub. The one thing the Three Broomsticks was never short on was patrons, and with that came stories. If only the walls of the Broomsticks could talk! Then again, Doc was probably fortunate that they couldn’t. He could remember vividly enough being slapped by Iris Bloomsbury over near the ladies toilets after he drunkenly picked the wrong door. It had been an honest mistake but as he’d opened the door to the ladies, just as she was coming out, he stumbled and to catch himself he just so happened to lay his hand on her dress, right in the region of her bosom. Honestly, he could understand the slap, but it had been an accident. Why she continued to scowl at him every time she saw him now just seemed like overkill. It was an accident! An honest to Merlin mistake. He had no idea she had it in her to be such a psycho about the whole ordeal, although if tales of her relationship with Jamie Schpangle were anything to go on, he was lucky to get away with just a slap! Poor old Jamie only mentioned that Helen Glungly looked less tired than usual and Iris practically tore him a new one! There had been hexes involved, swearing, a bunch of insecure ramblings. Honestly, Doc felt sorry for the bloke, and usually he liked to just keep his opinions and thoughts well out of other people’s relationships, those kinds of thoughts, especially if said aloud, could only ever backfire.
Once settled in at the pub, relaxed and taking it easy in the warmer weather, they enjoyed their drinks, chatting away with ease. It was rare to catch up with friends these days and in this kind of climate, but Doc had nothing to rush off for, nothing that beat hanging out with an old friend anyway. “Flo?” Doc sighed, leaning back in his chair, not sure what he could really say about Flo, “I’m not really sure, if truth be told,” Now Flo was a complexity he could do without in his life but she was a constant, there was that to be said about her, “Leant her thirty galleons the other week. I’ve stopped asking what it’s for, there’s always some new excuse,” He sighed, not even beginning to know what to do about Flo but the situation would sort itself out over time, given she made the right choices - something she seemed allergic to up until recently. “Sorry - "Reasons" - she’d kill me if she thought I was telling you of all people that she was making up excuses. You know how she feels about you.” Doc chuckled and then indulged himself in his butterbeer a little, drinking and having a laugh with Johnny was definitely the highlight of his week this week and he wasn't expecting anything to top it, "Speaking of Flo, though, you'll never guess who I saw a couple days ago - Dordon Dobson!" Doc's bro was so high it nearly met his hairline. He took a mouthful of his butterbeer, knowing that name would illicit a reaction from Johnny that he did not want to miss out on.

An Idle Mind It was disappointing to hear that Flo was up to the same old tricks, and Johnny genuinely hoped she'd sort herself out before it was too late for her. Not that he really cared too much, she hated him, and though there was certainly no love lost between them, he didn't like seeing another human being in her situation. At least Doc would always look out for her, that was a comfort. "She bloody hates me," he chuckled, "just don't mention that you've seen me at all." It would be for the best, Johnny didn't fancy round three with her, she was built like a tank and had a mean right hook. If he pissed her off just with his face like last time, there was no telling what she'd do. Sipping his drink, he lost himself to none too pleasant memories, pale blue eyes staring across the bar at nothing in particular as Doc carried on talking. He expected more Flo talk, or something along a similar vein, but the name that came out of Doc's mouth almost made Johnny spit his butterbeer all over the other man. "I did not kill his cat! He's a liar!" He choked out, coughing as he tried to control the sweet liquid that had took a nose dive down the wrong hole at the name Dordon Dobson. Bloody hell, that man was a moron. Johnny had done everything he could for Dordon's sick cat a few years back, even though he was only in his first year of veterinary training and was putting his job on the line by treating a pet on the nod. The cat hadn't made it, and Dordon had been going around to all of his mates telling them Johnny was a cat killer. "He's an absolute maniac, I've been purposely avoiding him for years," Johnny said, dabbing at his chin with the back of his hand, relieved to find it dry and free of butterbeer. "Did he mention me?" he added quickly, unable to keep his curiosity at bay. He wondered if Dordon was still talking crap about him after all this time. Hopefully he'd gotten a new cat or something and moved on with his life, but Johnny had never come across someone who could hold a grudge quite like it. He knew Doc wouldn't believe a word the bloke said, but it was still annoying to think of his name being sullied like that. _______________________ tag: Caradoc Bernard Dearborn words: 428 notes: <3 template by izzy[googlefont="La Belle Aurore"]

Doc was smart enough not to mention a sodding thing about Johnny to Flo. He didn't fancy having his head bitten off by her. She wasn't exactly the brightest of people so she was more than willing to fling a mean right hook, and with her chubby hands it wasn't as well cushioned as one might hope. Doc knew that for a fact having been on the receiving end of one of her punches before. Funny thing was, she always forgot how you pissed her off when she was after more money. Well everyone but Johnny, there seemed no way that she'd ever not be pissed at her, even if he made it rain diamonds and rubies for her.
Doc burst out laughing as Johnny claimed that he hadn't killed Dobson's cat. Doc knew that. Everyone knew that. Hell, even Dobson knew that! The bloke was just heartbroken and taking it out on Johnny. He'd come around someday but for the moment he was being stubborn. Doc had expected it to only take a couple of months but they were a few years into the grudge now and while it may have seemed to most that Dobson wasn't going to give in, Doc held out hope. "Of course he did! He never misses an opportunity to complain about "that god-awful vet and his back alley ways", you know that." Doc laughed and then took a mouthful of his drink, nearly finishing it off, "He'll come 'round," Doc said reassuringly, although he'd been saying that for a couple of years and he was certain beyond a doubt that those words had lost all meaning to Johnny now. "Don't dwell on it though, everyone's told him he's being a twat." And he was, Johnny was a top notch vet, even when he was going through his training. He was a brilliant healer for animals and Doc wouldn't have anyone else looking at his animals.
