If I am an angel paint me with black wings
The holidays had come and gone with fantastic fanfare, particularly where Aurora was involved. Her Christmas had been a spectacular affair, full of presents and goodies and all of her family close around to spoil her with affection. She was the first legitimate grandchild for both the Blacks and the Lestranges and while there were mixed feelings on he and Bella not yet having a son as their proper heir, everyone simply adored the little princess with her dark curls and big eyes. She had run about the manor in her pretty red dress Rodolphus’ mother, Ceres, had bought her until she passed out from exhaustion under the Christmas tree and Bella had to carry her to her bed.
New Years Eve was a little more intimate, as far as the fanfare went, but Aurora still was permitted to get sugared up and she had the attention of her entire family. They had even let her stay up late, though the five year old didn’t make it to midnight. At about 9:30 Aurora began rubbing her eyes, so Rodolphus magicked the clocks forward so she could kiss her daddy at “midnight” and then she curled up in her grandfather’s lap and fell asleep, at which point Rodolphus left and had a proper New Years celebration with friends. Valentine’s Day was really rather similar for Aurora; sweets, attention, and running around until she simply passed out. She had made a card for her mummy and insisted that daddy make it dance, as she often did when she colored.
Bellatrix’s and Rodolphus’ relationship, surprisingly, was on the mend after Bella stalked one of his business meetings and the couple wooed a pretty blonde witch back to their hotel for a threesome and murder. He didn’t know what had possessed Bella to try to make their relationship work once more, and he was smart enough to neither ask her what the hell was going on in her pretty little head, nor to expect it to last long. Once upon a time they had been best friends, then they were married and became lovers and it was all well and good until they became parents. When there are troubles in a family the first thing the parents are supposed to tell their children is that mummy and daddy’s problems have nothing to do with the children, and yet in the case of the Lestranges it had everything to do with Aurora. Despite loving their daughter to the ends of the earth, her presence had created a ripple effect that tore at the fabric of his and Bella’s relationship and he couldn’t see it ever being mended completely but it would appear that they had not broke it beyond repair. Even Bella’s secretive conference with the Dark Lord had not put Roddy off enough to purposely irritate his wife and the pair were actually trying to work together to further their already impressive standing with Lord Voldemort.
One task that would accomplish as much was to infiltrate the Ministry of Magic. Rodolphus himself couldn’t simply up and leave his post as COO of Lestrange Industries for a medial political position. Such a drastic change, especially one so suddenly, would draw unwanted attention and would defeat their purpose. Instead, the Lestranges were working their connections already within the Ministry to see what could be exploited and Rodolphus was following his initial plans by encouraging his younger cousin into the world of politics for their personal gain.
Situated outside of the many shops that lined the high street of Hogsmeade, Rodolphus leaned against a wall, smoking a cigarette and watching teenagers profess their love for one another in front of the fountain at the center of the village. To pass the time until he caught sight of his cousin, Rodolphus played a little game inside his head as he watched the teens. First he would determine how long the couple would last before one of them was caught cheating, and second he’d make a guess as to which one would be unfaithful first. It wasn’t terribly entertaining, but it was better than actually listening to their cheesy, romantic drivel and he was positioned in the best place to “happen upon” Jovian without hunting her down.

Valentine's Day was okay. It was passable. Tom lived to see another day in their relationship but this weekend he was sort of failing. Jovi knew she was what could be considered a little high maintenance but she was good looking, she was from a fantastic family and this was all just for fun anyway. She'd marry someone else once she was graduated. Maybe in a couple of years or so, give herself a chance to settle in to some kind of career. She rather liked the look of Pur Magazine and they were all pureblood affiliated, she knew from who worked there. A couple of the Burke sisters were probably the most prominent staff members, the oldest was going to be family at the end of the year so she had an in if she played the family card but she was willing to be she could easily get on based on her own talents.
Jovi looked to Tom, her Valentine this year as he struggled pulling a door that clearly said push. Jovi rolled her eyes at the moron and bumped him out of the way with her hip and pushed the door to Puddifoot's open. The place was packed. It was the closest Hogsmeade weekend to Valentine's day so all the tables were packed. "You did make a reservation, right?" She said quietly, not looking at her boyfriend, her eyes just wide as she looked over all that tables, certain there was nothing reserved for them and Tom's 'Uhh-' made it apparent that he had indeed neglected a reservation, despite her telling him to get one or they'd never get a seat. Jovi pushed her way through people and to the counter where she waited amongst those that also did not have a table to be served from the counter to take away. Tom was close behind her, slipping his hand over her hip but she slapped it away and placed her order with him adding his. They got their food and drinks and exited the shop, Tom tripping over the step and spilling half of his hot chocolate in front of him. Jovi was done with his kind of humiliation for the day and just walked off on him, leaving him at Puddifoot's to go get a new drink while she headed through the village alone, ready to head back to the castle. She'd given that twit plenty of chances but this was near enough the final straw.
Happy couples walked through the village, too wrapped up in one another to notice that she was alone, but she held herself high because she was the one walking away from him and she didn't need some guy anyway, she was more than capable of being happy on her own. She found her eyes drawn to a familiar figure and she had no idea what he was doing here of all places. He was leaning against a wall, smoking and acting like he wasn't up to something but as if she would fall for that. If he was here on the weekend with a bunch of lovey-dovey students hanging around then there had to be a reason. She got a little excited at the idea that perhaps he was here to kill someone, but then he would be doing a terrible job standing around. Perhaps he was just trying to create an alibi for himself, perhaps he'd killed someone else where, but then who, apart from her or her brothers, would really notice him? She carried on walking up the high street, figuring if Rodolphus was here for whatever reason then he wouldn't want to be bothered by his cousin.

If I am an angel paint me with black wings
If Rodolphus had come for any other reason, then Jovi’s assumption would have been correct. It would be best to leave Rodolphus to his own affairs, half of which probably were affairs in this tiny little village – what else was there to do here after one graduated? He could see the allure of living in the only completely muggle-free village in all of Britain, but it was a shabby little village with no nightlife to speak of and it was small enough that everyone here knew everyone else. There was no anonymity, no sport, no fun at all if you had the luxury of being able to go where ever the sodding hell you wanted to go. Visiting Hogsmeade had been a decent break from the castle while he had been a student at Hogwarts but other than students, a few staff from the school, and the lower class peasants, there was no draw for anyone of a decent social standing.
As it was, Rodolphus’ business was, in fact, with Jovi herself and spotting her pass by unaccompanied was a truly merciful act from the gods. He was growing bored waiting around to spy her and having to lure her away from her friends would have been a slight hassle, nothing he couldn’t handle but he was pleased that he wouldn’t need to bother with it at all. She was carrying what looked to be her lunch and judging by the fact that she was alone when everyone else in the village had paired off for a belated Valentine’s Day, he guessing she wasn’t going to be in a lovely mood. She would have to get over it, he wasn’t going to be putting up with a teenage tantrum when there was more important things to discuss today.
Curls of smoke blew into the air as he exhaled, holding his cigarette in his right hand. Rod pushed himself away from the wall and took several long strides in the same direction as his younger cousin, returning the cigarette to his mouth just before catching up with her. He blew a cloud of smoke off to the side as he came up alongside of Jovi, then flicked the butt onto the ground a few feet away from them. “Meeting friends?” he inquired as his steps shortened to match hers. Jovi’s legs were short and as he walked alongside her he realized just how short she really was. She couldn’t be more than Dorcas’ height and that made him nearly a full foot taller than the little redhead. Usually when they were together it was at family functions or parties where they clustered together with people more their own age. Jovi was 7 or 8 years younger than he was. He couldn’t remember whether she’d started school before he left or not. Needless to say, the cousins weren’t exactly close but at smaller functions they were close enough to entertain each other for a bit; Jovi and her brothers, and Rodolphus and Rabastan.

Ugh, he was approaching her. Jovi took a deep breath and carried on her way, not sure if she'd rather be seen alone or talking to some old businessman. It was a sudo-Valentine's Day and she supposed being alone would seem rather pathetic but it was probably more pathetic to be seen with an older gentleman on such a day, especially for those that would recognise him - and who wouldn't? Many knew that Rodolphus was indeed her cousin. The Lestrange's were royalty and her aunt had married in to the family. Not only that but she'd actually managed to produce an heir and a spare. There'd been rumours that the pair had difficulty convincing and there were also rumours that they'd had children before Rodolphus - all girls - but that they'd killed them all until they had the son they desired. Jovi, being the wonderful little niece that she was, believed none of it, but that was mostly because she knew how these rumours got started because she was good at creating such things herself. She never started rumours about her family but she was sure willing to start them about other families, lesser families, just for fun.
Rodolphus spoke and a wicked little smile graced Jovian's lips, "Dumping a boyfriend." She said softly but with pride. Timmy or Tommy, whatever the dunderheads name was, was entirely out of chances with her she'd decided and she was going to find herself someone cuter and richer than that fool and she was going to enjoy his company a hell of a lot around her ex in order to remind him just exactly what it was he was missing out on, "What do you want, Rodolphus?" She asked, continuing on her way, her feet keeping their steady pace without a care in the world if she was a bother to her cousin who seemed to want to talk to her. He was starting up a conversation but it barely counted as anything substantial so there was probably more than just a fake-friendly enquiry to her plans for the afternoon. Sipping her drink she made sure not to even glance Rodolphus' way. If people saw them together then she wanted it known that there as absolutely nothing going on between the pair. There were all sorts of rumours about incest flying around the place when it came to their kind, something that was usually all talk from the lesser, more disturbed types, but when it came to Rodolphus there was potentially some truth. Not about him, ew, she hoped not at least because she was related to that monstrosity. No, he'd married into the Black family and as everyone knew they were known for marrying their own cousins.

If I am an angel paint me with black wings
Jovi was pretty much the epitome of a spoiled princess, in Rodolphus’ mind at least. She had always been given everything she wanted, boys included apparently, and clearly her take away lunch was not up to par with her elite standards on this second Valentine’s Day. Whatever twat she had been dating long enough to earn the title ‘boyfriend’ should have been well aware at this point of who he was dating and that something so casual would not fly. Certainly not for a Rowle. However, not knowing much about his younger cousin, Rodolphus couldn’t gauge whether such a horrendous one-time offense would be enough to push the little redhead over the edge, or if this bloke had been given multiple chances and still managed to fuck up a good thing. He could easily see his princess of a cousin dumping a boy after one misstep, but perhaps she was more patient than that and this oaf had simply used up all his chances. Rodolphus put up with a lot of shit from Bellatrix over the years, but their relationship was different; they were married for one, and their parents had arranged the marriage from a young age. There was no easy out for Rodolphus.
There was no eye contact between the pair as they walked up the high street between the shops and cafes full of love-struck teens all cooing and ogling each other as if the holiday somehow made it more acceptable than any other day to get laid. You could practically smell the nervous sweat from the amateur playboys as they tried their hardest to woo the girl of the moment and make her believe that his intentions were purer than just getting into her bed. Ah, youth – how glad Rodolphus was to be rid of it.
He didn’t know where Jovian was leading them, or if she was even leading them anywhere. Perhaps she was following him, and they would both end up perplexed at their final destination. It didn’t matter much to Roddy where they ended up, so long as they could speak without eavesdroppers listening in. “I’ve a private matter to discuss with you,” he said casually. “Is there somewhere less crowded where we can speak? Alone.” To an onlooker who knew them, this was nothing more than a little family reunion. To anyone unaware of their relation, Rodolphus was perhaps attempting to get into the knickers of a much younger woman. In reality, it was time for Jovian to be set upon the path that would guide her to greatness – as high as a woman could achieve, that is.

Walking through Hogsmeade with her older cousin was of little interest to Jovian. She supposed if he had to talk to her then she could allow that but what he'd want to talk to her about was absolutely anyone's guess. "Somewhere private, just the two of us?" She questioned, "Have you any idea how that'll look?" Unlike Rodolphus Jovian had no desire to be associated with someone that would marry their own cousin. He hadn't but his wife came from a long line of inbreds and it didn't exactly bode well for his reputation but it wasn't as if the Black's were the only ones to literally keep it in the family that close, many pureblooded families did and it was rather stomach churning. If you went back far enough then everyone was related in one way or another, it was just a case for Jovi of finding who she wasn't closely related to but was still a worthy name in the elite world for her to marry in to. Once it came time for finding a real suitor she was going to have to take a close look at the family trees and decide just what was acceptable to her. Perhaps she'd just find a wealthy family name from a different part of Europe and bring them to the UK to marry and start a family, introduce them to the sacred 28 as a fair few of the families on that list were not as pure any more or just simply not worthy of holding such a title.
Rodolphus' family life was his own and Jovi had no interest of getting involved with it or being part of a new sort of rumour. She'd just dumped her boyfriend, she couldn't have it looking as though she'd dumped him for her own, married, cousin. "Don't you live near by?" She asked, "If it's something private wouldn't it be better done say in a place you know well and trust?" She questioned. Her cousin lived in the northern half of England, she knew the exact address and she knew exactly where the home was and what it looked like. Apparating to his home would not be a big deal and she could make it easy enough and perhaps even see that child of his, perhaps his wife too. Always charming to see the in-laws, right? It made sense to Jovi to go to Rodolphus', no doubt he would have plenty of places within his own home to discuss sensitive matters and this seemed like something of sensitivity. A little excitement in the pit of her stomach had her hoping it was something Death Eater related, but she wasn't going to jump the wand just yet. Perhaps he had a rather rich and influential friend that wanted to marry her. She wouldn't blame them, but it seemed highly unlikely that Rodolphus would get involved in anything like that so really the chances were it would be something Death Eater related. Or perhaps her parents were dead and he was the one to draw the short straw and break it to her. Meh. She didn't really care one way or another about her parents right now. Out of sight, out of mind.

If I am an angel paint me with black wings
Clearly his younger cousin was of the mindset that she was so wanted that others would assume any man who wanted a moment of her time was looking to get into her knickers, despite having a relation. She was juvenile in her thinking, but she was only 17. Or was she 18 now? He didn’t remember, and it didn’t matter. She was in her final year at Hogwarts and would soon be able to fulfill an important role for the Dark Lord, even if she hadn’t yet met the man himself. “It will look like family business, Jovian. Don’t be so conceded, it’s unbecoming on a woman.” He knew where Jovi’s mind had turned, and he understood it. His wife’s family had a disgusting habit of inbreeding, though Bellatrix herself was free from such a scandal. Yet anyone who thought the nearly 30 year old man had wanted anything to do with a child still in school clearly had enough of a perverse mind to think Rodolphus would try to fuck his own cousin.
Without arguing further about his desire to speak privately, Jovi suggested they retire to his home in England. It would be a journey for the teenager but ultimately there would be no more private place to speak of the important matters Rodolphus had sought her out for. “Head Girl running off to Cheshire when she’s supposed to be lunching with her beau and classmates on a school break. Not at all concerned with appearances, are you, love?” He was mocking her and if her red hair was any indication of her fiery personality, then he wouldn’t be permitted to entertain this sarcasm long. He didn’t need much of her time anyway, and he certainly didn’t give her the opportunity to respond. Rodolphus simply carried on, his tone more sincere now as he spoke. “Have you an apparition license, then? Think you can make all the way to Prestbury, or do you need a lift?” Rodolphus had gotten rather used to having someone side-along apparate with him, having taken Aurora into the city for some daddy-daughter time on a number of occasions. She liked to fly on his broom but when the weather was unfavorable and he wanted to get to his location quicker than the carriage ride would permit, he apparated with his little princess. Jovian was considerably larger, but she would nonetheless be easy enough to transport if her own skills weren’t up to snuff.

Rodolphus clearly knew how it would look and he seemed not to care about his reputation. While he may not have cared much for either of their reputations, Jovian certainly cared about her own. "Oh please, Rodolphus. You may go in for such a reputation these days but it's certainly not a rumour I'm interested in encouraging." She said, her words slightly hissedNow if there were some tragic family news that her was passing along it would be more than suitable to be seen with him, but it was unlikely she'd be so lucky. She had no idea why her cousin would be wanting to visit and talk to her but she hoped it wouldn't last long, whatever their discussion might hold. She had better things to do than hang about some middle aged creep that wanted to spend his weekend in a village full of teens getting a break from school and enjoying a little romance. Yeah, her cousin was most certainly creepy but she wouldn't hold it against him, it wasn't as if she had much to do with him at any other times and he was a Death Eater, not that she found that intimidating, she just found it potentially useful for the future - she wanted to become a death eater and with family already there it only made sense that Rodolphus might some day be able to bring her in to the ranks, provided his chauvinistic attitude wasn't too much, but if it was then she was willing to bet Rabastan was also a death eater and probably a safer way to go, Rodolphus had arrogance pouring out of every orifice.
Sneaking off to talk to Rodolphus was something noticeable. Heading somewhere alone and disapparating was easy to go unnoticed. It wasn't as if she was tied to Hogsmeade, she was an adult after all, had been for a while now yet Rodolphus seemed intent on talking to her like she was just some child. Perhaps he was forgetting that he was the one seeking her, she owed him nothing and if he wasn't family she would have told him to kindly take his pompous arse back off to whatever hole he'd clawed his way out of. Luckily for Rodolphus she had a little more class than to say such a thing to family. "Oh for Merlin's sake." She said, shaking her head a little, "I'll meet you at your manor." She told him, taking a breath and picking up her pace a little, walking away from Rodolphus, taking a sip of her coffee as she went. She wasn't going to leave until her coffee was finished.

If I am an angel paint me with black wings
Jovi’s future with the Death Eaters was not as far off as she might have imagined. Her reaction to discovering her older cousin was in league with the Dark Lord was not taken in the manner he might have expected, had he ever expected to be caught discussing such things in the first place which, of course, he had not. It was evident from her upbringing that her values were aligned with Lord Voldemort’s ideals but there was a big difference in supporting such a noble change to public policy and actually being a part of that change. She had been too young last summer to really get her feet wet, but Rodolphus had thought about his younger cousin’s usefulness a time or two since then, and now with the Dark Lord demanding more eyes inside the Ministry of Magic, there was no better time than now to provide his younger, more impressionable cousin with some direction in life.
Apparently the little witch felt capable enough to see herself to his home and she huffed off like a pissy little teenager, saying she would meet him at his manor. He did the mental maths on how long it would be until his own daughter was a bitchy, hormonal teenager like his cousin and the miniscule number he came up with was far to depressing. Aurora was going to be six next month, far too close to being such a dramatic little thing like Jovi. He tried not to think about it as he disapparated, leaving Hogsmeade behind without another word to the redhead, and heading back to England where he would prepare for her quick arrival.
When he arrived at the chateau, Roddy met Bella in the library and explained that Jovian would be stopping by for a short visit to discuss private matters. She agreed to let them be while they chatted and went to get Aurora cleaned up so that she was presentable if she happened to run into Jovi during her short visit. Satisfied that Bella and Aurora were occupied, Rodolphus retired to his study, letting Ader know to escort Jovian there whenever she arrived.

Jovi went for a little stroll having ditched her cousin a little way back. She didn't exactly care how that might look but she walked with confidence everywhere she went and confidence was most certainly key. While she could sneak away she knew she couldn't be gone too long, if something were to happen then she was to be looked up to, needed for leadership, whatever Rodolphus needed her for she hoped it wasn't long because not only did she need to get back as quickly as possible but also he was old and therefore more than likely entirely boring. Even Rabastan was over the hill in Jovi's opinion, but he always acted cooler, he was funny on the odd occasion that they'd interacted and she could deal with that so long as it wasn't too often. Rodolphus on the other hand was more of a pompous arse. He clearly looked down on her for being younger but Jovi knew it was down to his own insecurities, even though he was way too ego driven to ever admit that. At least she knew the truth. Perhaps it was because she'd overheard his conversation with Fin, it wasn't as if the two had been all that careful with what they'd been saying but clearly the pair were a couple of soft touches, she'd come away unscathed. If she was in their position she probably would have killed her, family or not, then again she was smarter than the pair of them.
After a few minutes Jovi found a secluded spot and disapparated to England and started making her way up to Rodolphus' home. The Lestrange Manor was cute in a way. A little smaller than Jovi had expected the first time she'd seen it but she supposed not everyone liked to be crazy extravagant. Rodolphus and Bellatrix had just about all the money in the world and their home did not reflect that. Well some of the priceless pieces they had in there most certainly did, but from the outside the home was modest for a couple of their standing. Still when she got there she was expected and shown right through to Rodolphus' study. Jovi didn't spy Bellatrix or Aurora during her visit and it was just as well, she didn't want to waste time on friendly chit-chat with people she didn't even know all that well. Rodolphus was bad enough to have to tolerate for now, she'd act all friendly to Bellatrix the next time she saw her. "Let's make this quick before I'm missed." She said, entering and spying Rodolphus. She strolled right on up to his desk and once there turned her back on it, picking up a silver letter opener and resting her arse against the desk. With her right hand on the letter opener handle she placed the tip to her index finger of her left hand and let her eyes glaze over the opener, sunlight catching the silver and reflecting to the western wall of the study.

If I am an angel paint me with black wings
Jovi hadn’t kept him waiting long and soon enough Rodolphus was joined by his younger cousin, who promptly commanded things move along quickly. That was fine enough by him, he would rather be taking care of more interesting matters but this meeting was in the service of the Dark Lord and he wouldn’t ignore it. “Very good then,” he replied, leaning back in his seat and looking up to the redhead who was absentmindedly playing with his letter opener. “You no doubt remember the conversation you so rudely interrupted last summer, and your little realization about what your favorite cousin gets up to in his spare time.” He stressed the words ‘favorite cousin’ just to take the piss out of her. “You’re graduating soon and you’re going to find out right quick how different the real world is when you’re no longer in school. It seems like the perfect opportunity to get your feet wet. That is,” he folded his arms over his chest as his eyes connected with Jovi’s, “if you’re actually interested. This isn’t a game any silly little school girl can play, and you’ll be expected to show loyalty even if you’re not treated to a posh lunch in Hogsmeade.” If Jovi’s inability to retain a boyfriend for more than a few months was any indication of her attention span, then it wouldn’t bode well for her in the Dark Lord’s service. However, she was young, and one couldn’t be expected to retain relationships that had been forged in one’s youth into adulthood. Besides, if anyone really knew how many women Rodolphus had gone through before settling down with Bellatrix – and of course the term ‘settling down’ was used only in the loosest of terms in this context – they could have said the same thing about Roddy. It was really less of a remark on her attention span than an easy jab at her for sport.

They were getting down to business and as she caught the gist of what Rodolphus wanted to talk to her about Jovi's expression changed a little. Her features soften and she paid her old cousin more attention than she had been before. He was actually talking about something worthy of her attention so she was willing to give him a little more respect than she'd ever given before, even if he was being a complete arse at the moment, acting like a smug twit. Naturally that was just his personality and while Jovian was prepared to act a little more sensible given the subject of their discussion, she doubted her cousin would. Men did not mature, not really, they were all just giant children it was just that some were richer than others and got away with ruling the world. It was unjust and unfair but Jovi wasn't going to bitch and moan about it, she was going to do what she thought was right and at the moment, the idea of becoming a Death Eater, or at least helping in any way that she could, seemed not only exciting but also ... well no, it was just mostly exciting for the young red head.
"I'm interested." She said with certainty, watching her cousin closely. She was most definitely interested and had been for quite some time. She was a little annoyed it had taken Rodolphus so long to approach her about this subject but at least it was making up for her crappy date with Tom. She had no idea what Rodolphus expected her to do to prover her loyalty but Jovian was arrogant enough to believe she'd be capable of anything asked of her, regardless of what it was. Her mind travelled to killing mudbloods in her year and she was happy enough with that, there were few peers that she had any actual connection with so killing one or two here or there was no problem. She'd never actually killed a human before but she was fairly certain it wouldn't bother her the way it would most people. She was quite fascinated with the whole concept of dying so this was really more of a fantastic opportunity for her than she'd originally been thinking, and once she was a Death Eater, when that time came, then she'd be able to take to the streets in their attacks and have what she assumed was a bloody fantastic night of murder and cocktails - because every girl needed a cocktail after a fantastic night of killing, she assumed!

If I am an angel paint me with black wings
Her features instantly changed as Rodolphus’ words sunk into that pretty little head of hers. She was not stupid, he knew that, but she sometimes liked to act as though she might as well be for all the attention she paid her elders. Rodolphus was only a decade older, not even a full generation, but her elder nonetheless and she seemed to enjoy giving him attitude. He couldn’t resist giving it right back at her some days. It was lucky they did not spend as much time together as he did with some family members because, just as he had on that summer’s night in question, he could easily picture himself killing his little cousin and wouldn’t that just be a shame?
With her attention gained, Rodolphus sat upright a bit more. He was certain there would be much less teenage angst in her demeanor for the rest of the conversation – which he prayed would be short. “I expected as much.” Rod could practically see her mind churning with ideas as to what fun she would get to embark on in the role of loyal servant to the Dark Lord, and he was sure she was getting away with herself. “You’ll need to prove yourself to Him when the time comes. But for now, a pledge of loyalty and getting you placed properly in the world is all that’s needed. If you can manage that much, I’ll put in a good word for you.” There was a well-deserved arrogance in his words, though Jovi wouldn’t know of exactly how well deserved it really was.
Rodolphus was not just a Death Eater. He was not just a trusted member of Lord Voldemort’s inner circle. He was the Dark Lord’s personal Hit Wizard. His go-to man. If there was a problem that needed sorting, Rodolphus was sent in to deal with it the best way Rodolphus knew how. He had made a reputation for himself among the other Death Eaters, one that mainstream society knew nothing of. One that would get him a bed in the highest security ward in Azkaban, should he ever be captured but there was no chance of that happening. Rodolphus was quick and clever, he was skilled having been trained since a young lad by private duelist tutors and then by the Dark Lord himself. He was the shining example of Death Eater, and he was Jovian’s way into that realm, and he expected to be revered as such.
“With a pretty face like yours, I’ll bet you’d be hired up as a secretary for some fat old codger at the Ministry, like that.” Rodolphus snapped his fingers to accent his words. “The closer you can position yourself to intel, the better.” Any intel, at this point, would be best. They had Death Eaters staged in the MLE departments, and of course Rodolphus’ own brother was part of the Minister’s private guard, but the Ministry was large and there were several departments vacant of their spies. The Wizengamot. The Department of International Affairs. The Department of Mysteries. The Department of Magical Education. The Department for Regulation of Magical Creatures. The lists went on and on. All Jovian would need to do is position herself close enough to someone in the know, relay any pertinent information to the Dark Lord’s trusted few, and sit back painting her nails while the big boys took care of business.

To prove herself when the time came would not be an issue, nor would swearing any loyalty to the one named Lord Voldemort. Jovi could see merit in his actions, in his world view, and she could see that he was going to obtain his vision. Those that fought for him and along side him to achieve his vision would be highly rewarded and it was only natural for Jovian to want to be a part of it. She was a smart witch, she was opportunistic. There was a lot that Jovi wanted in life and she was certain she would get it all. She was driven and smart and not encumbered by fiscal matters. She could and would have the world at her feet after graduation but if Rodolphus thought she was going to be someone's lowly secretary then he had a other thing coming. There were other ways to use her looks and femininity around the ministry should she wish. The vast majority of department heads were male and she figured she'd be using that to her advantage. She wasn't going to whore herself out, Merlin no! She had friends she could whore out. Jovi was from a highly respectable family, she wasn't going to sully her reputation for a bit of office gossip, however the idea of blackmail was so very tantalising. Jovi could just envision herself worming her way into a decent position at the ministry, taking full advantage of everyone and everything available to her and because she was young and so very attractive, she was even more certain she could get away with just about everything she ever wanted.
"I see." She paused, a slight smile on the corners of her lips, "I'll think it over." She said, knowing this wasn't a decision to make lightly. This would require a lot of thought usually but in reality Jovi had already thought about the pros and cons of joining the ranks known as the 'Death Eaters' and she was more than happy to do what was needed, kill whoever was needed in order to be apart of the glory that would await, however what she would need to think about was which department at the ministry would she be most beneficial? Where would she be well utilised for getting useable intel for Lord Voldemort? There were a lot of places within the Ministry but there was bound to be something perfect for her, for what was needed and without having her running about, making appointments for some overpaid suit with a bad hair cut. "I'll get back to you with my decision, expect an owl before the end of the month, dear cousin." Jovi smiled sweetly and moved away from the desk, "Is that all for today?" She asked, certain her older cousin would try and berate her in some way over sending him an owl with her decision however she knew to be careful in what such a letter would say to her cousin, there was a chance the ministry was watching Rodolphus. As one of the elites in the wizarding world and coming from such a pure and wealthy background he was bound to have suspicions and aspersions cast his way, Rabastan too, so perhaps a career in the Magical Law Enforcement Department would be an area to look in to. Get the heads up on any raids and arrests planned before they happen, learn who was tracking whom and to where, see if she couldn't just change a little information here and there if Hit Persons and Aurors were getting too close then she could throw them off the trail or organise for some false information and leads to fall into their laps. Another predominantly male department that she could exploit as she chose.

If I am an angel paint me with black wings
The wheels were turning and Rodolphus could practically see the smoke furrowing up from her ears. She would think about it. Rod wanted to roll his eyes but he refrained. He knew she had been thinking this move over since last summer and now she was simply acting as if there was any argument to not joining the winning side in a raging war that would see her and her family as victors. He knew her well enough to know she had been dreaming of this moment since August – he certainly wasn’t lumping her in with her family as some sort of stereotype or anything – and come the end of the month the only answer that he would receive, the only one he would accept, was a yes.
Rodolphus nodded when Jovi asked if that was all. He hadn’t planned on keeping her for any extended period of time and he had more important matters to be getting on with other than socializing with his younger cousin. “Lovely catching up with you, cousin,” he said in a patronizing tone. “Do watch your words when you owl.” He called for Ader, his elf, and ordered the creature to escort Jovi out as he turned his attention to the newspaper resting on his desk.
