Sugar Rush Hogsmeade weekends were something every student looked forward to, and Echo had always loved them, but honestly, as she was sailing through her final year at the castle, she was finding herself wanting to cling to it like she never had before. In just five short months she would be leaving Hogwarts forever, and she'd be able to visit Hogsmeade whenever she liked then, but she'd never be able to curl up in the Hufflepuff common room, she'd never be able to do laps around the quidditch pitch just for the fun of it, and she'd never be able to eat meals in the great hall again. There was forever for visiting small shopping villages, but time for cherishing the home she had had for the last six and a half years was quickly running out, and she hated it. If she thought she'd get away with it, she would have skipped Hogsmeade weekends for all of her seventh year, and just spent that time enjoying the castle, but there were some weekends she just couldn't miss. This one in particular, since she'd broken every quill she owned, and was quickly running out of parchment and other school supplies. She had dressed after munch, and left the castle in no hurry, enjoying the walk along the path to Hogsmeade and trying to memorise the way the way the ground crunched beneath her feet, the same as it had done under the shoes of thousands of witches and wizards for hundreds of years, all walking the same route. It gave a nice feeling of camaraderie to think of things in that way, though it did also make her want to hide in the bushes and cry. She hadn't cried, she'd sucked it up and stomped her cute boots through the frost, promising herself that she would go to her favourite shop before bothering to get the supplies she actually needed. Hogsmeade weekends were nothing without a visit to Honeydukes. Echo kept a rather enormous bag of their sweets in her trunk at all times, and it was running low, so of course that was more important than buying quills. Homework could wait, her ridiculously sweet tooth could not! The tinkling bell over the shop door brought a smile to the blondes face as she stepped into the warm, sweet building, inhaling deeply and blocking the doorway to enjoy the moment. A man tried to enter behind her, and despite him tutting his tongue at how long she was taking to move out of the way, she stood there a few seconds longer before stepping right inside the shop. Between the scent of rich chocolate, and the sugary smells of sugar quills and ice mice and peppermint imps, Echo's mouth was practically watering as she began to peruse the yummy treats on offer. If she had enough money on her she'd buy literally one of everything to try, but as it was, she had to save a bit for school bits and bobs, so she'd still to her old favourites and get herself a new goody bag for her trunk. She picked up a little paper pic 'n' mix bag from the shelf, and grabbed a scooper, shoveling a greedy scoop of chocoballs into her bag and moving on to the next item, fudge flies, adding in a greedy scoop of those, too. She would get a little bit of each of her favourite small sweets, then she'd head over to the next aisle where the cauldron cakes were. You always had to have a cauldron cake or two, it was silly not to, really. _______________________ tag: open notes: <3 outfit: Comfy and warm. template by izzy[googlefont="Over the Rainbow"]

| | Remus just barely sidestepped a group of giggling first years, running and sliding on the ice coated streets of Hosgmeade while they threw handfuls of snow at each other. They were so small, and he found it hard to believe that he, too, had once been that little and carefree. At 18, almost 19 with his birthday less than a month away, first year seemed impossibly long ago. In all fairness, if any of the other Marauders were with him, snowballs would certainly be flying and at least one of them would hit a snowbank arse first. He'd forgotten that it was a Hogsmeade weekend, or rather had not really considered the date. He didn't exactly have a calendar for it anymore, just a vague idea of when the school usually planned them out. He wasn't upset that he ventured out, though. People watching was always a favorite past time of his, so he much preferred Hosgmeade when it was bustling and busy as opposed to the quiet, empty streets that the weekdays sometimes saw. It was almost more peaceful- outside of these streets, a war was waging. There were dark times indeed, but today, in this small town, the war may as well have been a thousand miles away. A different kind of magic, but magic all the same that protected them in this little bubble. Per usual and surprising no one, Remus was on his way to Honeydukes, his little home away from home. Most of the staff knew his name there, and he knew a few names as well. Seven years of visiting on Hogsmeade weekends hadn't been for nothing, after all. He knew he shouldn't, that he should really be saving every penny he could, but since James was so insistent on helping him (and Sirius, too, of course, but James somehow kept managing to keep him floating, no matter how much Remus hated to accept the help), Remus was reluctantly getting used to the idea that he had a couple of spare galleons. Nothing extravagant, of course. He wasn't out buying the latest fashions, but a couple of chocolates from Honeydukes wouldn't kill him. In fact, they did quite the opposite... sometimes. Where he currently was, a week past the full moon, the chocolate was no more than a splurge, but he did intend to keep some for the next full moon. There was a small delay getting in through the doorway, but once he did, he was met with warm air and the familiar, perfect scent of chocolate and sugar, fake fruit flavors and wafer cookies. If there was a heaven, it must have been pretty similar to this. He pulled his gloves from his fingers, shoving them in the pockets of his coat, and he grabbed one of the 'fill it yourself' bags. He couldn't remember if he'd always had a sweet tooth, but he knew he had since he was about eight years old. Before that, he simply couldn't remember. When he was a kid, his parents didn't seem to mind indulging him if it made him feel better at all. He knew, still to this day, that his father especially carried a lot of guilt for what had happened, so the least he could do was supply a sickly kid with sweets. Now, it was just a habit. First in his bag was a layer of chocolate galleons, followed by fudge flies, and then milk chocolate ladybugs. When he reached for that scooper, however, his hand fell on something much warmer than the metal handle of the tool, and it shook him out of his own thoughts enough to look down and realize that he was effectively holding someone's hand over the scooper. He pulled his own hand away instantly, eyes moving up and mouth already open to offer the apology. His gaze met that of a blonde girl, no older than him, whose hand he'd been holding just seconds before. She looked remarkably familiar, which meant they'd almost definitely gone to Hogwarts together, but her name was escaping him. Instead of fumbling in search of her elusive name, he instead offered a quick and sincere apology. "I am so sorry. That's a little embarrassing, isn't it? Please, go ahead."Tag: Echo Arista Everwood Words: 710 Notes: Hope you don't mind I jumped in on this one! | |

Sugar Rush Her bag was full. It really was. She wouldd probably get the shock of her life when it was weighed at the counter and the scale broke and she was charged ten million Galleons for the sweets and the broken scale. If she had that amount of money to her name, she would have paid it, too, anything for the bag of yum she had in her hand. She folded the top of the bag over, telling herself firmly that she was done, and didn't need anything else from the pic 'n' mix. She especially didn't need those honey clusters. Nope, she did not. Blue eyes lingered on them, all golden and crunchy and shimmering in the light as though they were winking at her. No. No, no, no. Echo sighed. "Damnit," she muttered to herself, shoulders sagging as she knew she wouldn't be able to talk away without some. Just one. One cluster. One tiny cluster, because she still had those cauldron cakes to get, and maybe a bar of chocolate or three. She really needed to land herself a good job to fund this food obsession she had, it was ridiculous and probably really unhealthy. Opening her paper bag back up, she reached for the scooper she had just put down, her hand closing over the handle, and another larger hand closing over hers. The strange hand retracted immediately, and Echo jolted with the surprise of having her hand grabbed, dropping the scooper in the process and cringing as it clattered loudly into its holder on the shelf. Better than it falling on the floor, she supposed. Her eyes shot up to the familiar face of Remus Lupin. James and Sirius' friend, the quiet one. He was a year older than her, and so already graduated, but she supposed it wasn't all that unusual to see a familiar graduated face around Hogsmeade, it was a popular place with adults as well as students. "It's fine, you were just warming my hand," she joked with a smile, reaching out her hand once more to steady the rattling scooper and keeping hold of it this time, because she'd be damned if she walked away without a few honey clusters. "You're Remus, right? James and Sirius' friend?" she asked, never having really talked to him at all. She was friends with James and Sirius through Quidditch, and so she knew who Remus was, but he had always been much quieter than the others, sort of in the background. She supposed that was why they'd never really known each other, but she had certainly noticed him over the years, he was so handsome, how could she not? "I'm finished with this, I just couldn't walk away from these bloody Honey Clusters," she said, scooping a few - what happened to just getting one!? - quickly into her bag and holding out the scooper to the blonde boy beside her. _______________________ tag: @junebug notes: Not at all, I'm excited to get to play with Remus! | | Remus could have been described as painfully shy, though those that knew him well knew differently. That old saying that it was the quiet ones you needed to worry about was certainly true in his case, and quiet did not equal shy. Even still, he was an introvert at heart and would much rather walk through the candy shoppe undetected than doing embarrassing things like holding a former classmate's hand while he reached for sugar. His apology, eloquent though he managed to be, was still accompanied by flushed cheeks. She seemed to take it in stride, though, and he found that her smile seemed to radiate warmth. Or maybe that was just him warming up after having come in from the blistering cold outside, and his fingertips were finally regaining feeling. He couldn't help but offer a smile in return. "Wish I could say I had done that out of chivalry," he responded, thankful that she didn't immediately look at him like he was some kind of creep. "Merlin knows with this weather, we all need it." Was making small talk about the weather a sign of officially becoming an old man? Probably. Too late to reverse that process now. He stood back, patiently, while she finished collecting her sweets, and allowed his mind to wander. He missed Hogsmeade weekends with the school and his classmates. He always suspected that adulthood and life after Hogwarts would come with a certain bittersweet taste, but he never really expected to miss his school days as much as he had. He didn't expect for the war to have such a hard hitting impact on all of them the moment they left the safety of the school, and he certainly hadn't expected the everyday difficulties that snuck up on him. He wondered if any of the students currently enjoying the Saturday trip had any idea of what they may experience in just a year or two- if the darkness of the world had found its way to Hogwarts yet. "Hm?" Remus turned his attention back to the blonde when he heard her voice again, the question registering, and he nearly laughed. "I don't know. Does our conversation end abruptly if I say yes?" He was usually referred to as James' and Sirius' friend, the reaction was usually either disdain or adoration. The adoration usually came from girls, and even Remus would use that to his advantage sometimes. "But yeah, that's me. Glad to know we all left an impression." He almost laughed at his own comment... that school would remember the Marauders for years to come. They'd all made quite sure of it. "You'll forgive me, I hope... I'm sure we had a Divination class together, but I'm terrible with names." He did feel just a little guilty at the admission, knowing he'd spent several years in the same school as her, and he was at a complete loss for her name, though he was fairly certain it started with an E. He was much more a visual learner, and if he'd every seen her name in print, he would have likely never forgotten it. Moving in when she was finished, Remus added a few honey clusters to his own bag with a word of thanks. "I get it... they're impossible to resist. Though, if I'm being honest, I have a particular soft spot for the old, standard, Chocolate Frogs." He set the scooper back in its place, his eyes coming to rest on her features again. "If you don't have any in your bag, I would highly recommend some. There's nothing that can go so wrong in your day that a chocolate frog can't fix."Tag: Echo Arista Everwood Words: 620 Notes: Sorry this took yeaaaaars but here I am <3 | |

Sugar Rush If she'd have known Remus had such a lovely sense of humour she'd have maybe made more of an effort to say hello to him at school. Her smile was genuine as she enjoyed his line about chivalry, and blue eyes flashed with a dash of mischief as she looked up at him. "Let's just pretend you did," she told him, appreciating that he had a bit of honesty about him, too. Echo was nothing if not direct and probably too honest for her own good. Her brain to mouth filter was very much intact, but she didn't always give it the power it required, and overriding it was something that came naturally to her. She believed the truth was always the better option, even if it wasn't always what people wanted to hear. It got her in trouble occasionally, but it also gained her a lot of respect from her friends, who always knew where they stood with her. She supposed it was a fair trade, a bit of trouble for a lot of trust. Echo was more surprised than she should have been at Remus asking if him being friends with James and Sirius would end their conversation. Of course, she understood that the two boys and their friends had been the cause of much mayhem during their school years, and a lot of people were left with ruffled feathers because of them, but as someone who had only ever seen the good sides of them, it took her a minute to shake off the surprise. "Of course not," she said with a sincere shake of her head, despite feeling like he was once again jesting. "You lot didn't get on everyone's bad side, some of us enjoyed the show." Echo mostly enjoyed the show on the pitch, though it had irked her to no end whenever Hufflepuff had played against Gryffindor and James had just been awful when it came to cheating and playing dirty. She liked the guys competitiveness, but for Merlin's sake, it was completely out of line. And then off the pitch, he was hilarious. Luckily she could detach her Quidditch feelings from her every day life and not let it ruin friendships. "I'm Echo," she said easily, not at all bothered that he didn't remember her name. Why would he? They had never been a part of each other's lives, it was nothing to be sorry about, though he seemed like such a nice guy she might actually find herself feeling sorry she'd missed out on having him as a friend along with the others. "You've probably seen me screaming at James on the Quidditch pitch a time or two over the years," she added, wanting to give him something, anything, to possibly pin her face to so she might not be such a random stranger to him. Then again, picturing a raging blonde Beater shouting the odds at a Quidditch rival thirty feet up in the air might not be the best image to pin on herself. Oh well, too late now. Her eyes darted to the chocolate aisle at the mention of chocolate frogs. "I'm a terrible chocaholic," she told him, biting her lip at the thought of adding a chocolate frog or two to her bag. "You shouldn't encourage me." She really loved the encouragement. "Though I was thinking about grabbing a bar of that new raspberry bubble chocolate. Apparently it makes little pink bubbles fly out of your mouth when you talk." She knew she sounded far more excited about that than she should, but she had such a weakness for new weird and wonderful products, and made it a mission to try out every new sweet that Honeydukes got in, even if they seemed a bit extreme, like that time she'd drank some lemonade that made you whinny like a donkey. That had been fun. _______________________ tag: @junebug notes: No worries, lovely! <3 outfit: Comfy and warm. template by izzy[googlefont="Over the Rainbow"]

| | Remus chuckled, nodding and glad to hear that not everyone in the school had breathed a collective sigh of relief when the four of them graduated. Not that he could have blamed them if they had, and Remus wasn't as innocent in all of the shenanigans as he liked to pretend. He had been a teacher's pet and a great student, so it was a little easier for him to talk them all out of trouble, but there were many pranks that he himself had been the mastermind behind. He was proud of them, too, even if he would never openly take credit for them. "We did know how to create a spectacle, that is very true." For a moment, nostalgia hit him, and he smiled. It had definitely been a wild seven years. "Echo," he repeated, nodding. "Right, I remember now." He definitely did not remember her from any of the Quidditch games, but he'd spent the majority of them in the stands, his attention focused mostly on the crimson robes in the air. He knew the intricacies of the game from James and Sirius, as well as theory and history, but faces in uniform, not so much. "Ah, wait..." How many times had those two gone on full tangents about the other players? It took a minute, but he was pretty sure he could shift through the roster of players from all four houses. Eyes squinted, looking up, he thought, and his face lit up with realization. "Everwood? Beater, was it?" Turned out all those nights in the common room listening to the team had suddenly paid off in this one moment. Who knew? He was adding pieces to his own bag again, now that he'd successfully placed her, and continued. "In all fairness, a lot of people yelled at James during the games. It was difficult to keep track."His bag of treats half full, he put the scoopers back and folded the top of the bag over on itself. It was enough, and he'd stash most of it in the back of his cooler, anyway, saved for a time when he really needed them. His sweet tooth was manageable, except for about three days out of the month when he turned into an absolute child about his sugar intake. That may have also been the first time he'd ever described his werewolf tendencies in terms of being a child, but the metaphor fit. "Speaking of encouraging... you know Hogwarts needs some new troublemakers now that we're graduated." He grinned wolfishly at her after saying so. While no one ever accused him of being a bad influence, he had his moments. In fact, most of his professors and even Lily had rather liked that he spent so much time with the boys because they thought, somewhat erroneously, that he was a good influence on them. Sure, he may have convinced them to study for an extra five minutes for a test, but at most, he suggested better ways to accomplish their pranks and mischief. Sugar Rush It took him a minute, but he finally clicked and asked if she was Everwood. "That's me!" She laughed, shaking her head at Remus' words. It was true, a lot of people liked to shout at James during matches, and during practices and tryouts and any other flying related incident. "It's a bit boring without anyone cheating and causing dramatics fifty feet in the air," she quipped, smiling up at Remus and wondering why he hadn't joined his friends on the Gryffindor team. Of course, it wasn't up to him, he would have had to try out like everyone else. Maybe he did try out and didn't get a spot on the team. It was probably best not to ask in case it was a sore point, but he seemed like he'd make the perfect spectator, so that worked out well for his friends who had him cheering them on in the stands. Echo had her own friends for that. Those super loyal people who liked to holler her name and make her nearly take someone's head off on the pitch because she was so distracted looking to see who was screaming for her. Fun stuff. She really did appreciate the support they gave, though, despite the dangers over enthusiasm could bring. Her face broke into a grin when Remus told her that the castle needed some new troublemakers without them. She narrowed her eyes playfully at him, though she meant what she was saying. "I get the feeling you might have been the real naughty one in the group," she said, moving past him and heading in the direction of the chocolate bars and chocolate everything, her hand tapping his arm to encourage him to go with her. "The quiet mastermind in the background?" she guessed, picking up a bar of raspberry bubble chocolate and scanning the other kinds that were on offer. There were too many to count, but luckily she'd been in here often enough to know exactly what she did and didn't like. "The title will have to go to someone else," she sighed. "I'm hoping to go into Professional Quidditch, I've got to keep a squeaky clean record for the year." She had been doing well all year to not land herself in detention. When the scouts came closer to the summer, they'd be checking school records as well as looking for talent for tryouts for the big teams, she needed to keep herself on track if she wanted to stand a chance when the time came. Not that she was much of a trouble maker. Her honesty and willingness to stand up to idiots sometimes got her a detention here and there, but she was generally a pretty good student. Maybe some of the sixth years would step up and fill the fun and mischievous hole Remus and his friends had left behind them. Echo could think of plenty of adventurous people off the top of her head who would fit the bill perfectly. _______________________ tag: @junebug notes: These two have such an easy vibe, it's lovely! <3 outfit: Comfy and warm. template by izzy[googlefont="Over the Rainbow"]

| | Remus smiled warmly once she confirmed that he had the right girl. Given a moment, he could usually pull names out, even if he was so much better with faces. "As James has my loyalty, it's my duty to tell you that he did not, in fact, cheat." Remus said this with a straight face, so it was impossible to tell if there was a joke behind it, or if he really believed that, but he wasn't keen to give that away either. "But I will admit that I'm sure it's a lot less interesting without James around." In their younger years, he'd been certain that James would go professional with Quidditch. And then, the war began, and that had a tendency to change everyone's plans. Auror was never really in his own future, but he was still very involved in the effort. It made him ache for a moment, looking at Echo and remembering what his own last few years at Hogwarts had been like. He hoped she was enjoying everything being a student had to offer. Everything would change for her soon enough. Merlin, if he didn't feel like such an old 18 year old thinking that. Maybe he'd changed too much in just a few short months, but sometimes, he'd give anything to be a student again. She pulled his attention to happier things, insinuating that he may have had more of a hand in the Marauders' shenanigans than he let on, and he brought a hand to his chest in mock offense. "I haven't the faintest what you're talking about." How did the saying go, again? It was always the quiet ones you had to watch out for? Remus rather prided himself on his ability to run with the group he did as well as remain something of a teacher's pet. He considered it a skill, though he would also be quick to point out that James and Sirius had a certain charm that seemed to win over their teachers as well. All four of them had very specific, but different, social skills that saw them through their school years. At least they all knew they'd be remembered as something of a legend at the school. Godric help them if any of the four of them had children. "I was perfectly respectable, thank you."He sealed off his bag, thinking maybe a bar of coconut ice might be in order as well, but then decided against it. The chocolate was enough for now, and he'd grab it on another trip. Even still, he found himself trailing after Echo, eyes scanning the shelves to see if anything else piqued his interest. "Professional Quidditch, hm?" He heard enough people that dreamed about it, but from what he remembered seeing her play, he thought the Hufflepuff could really make it. "You hoping for any particular team? I've always been keen on the Chudley Cannons, but mark my words, Braga Broomfleet is going to cause an upset this season." He knew far more about team stats than most gave him credit for, especially considering that he didn't play. He never really had an interest in playing, either- athleticism wasn't his strong point, and, probably more importantly, he would have had to miss too many games and practices due to the full moon. Jus wasn't worth trying to make up even more excuses than he already had to. They passed the coconut ice, the top, pink layer catching his eye, and he grabbed one anyone. "Chocolate anything is the best, but these things are my weakness, I swear."Tag: Echo Arista Everwood Words: 607 Notes: So I may have actually been IN Honeydukes yesterday and it was amazing and fun (Harry Potter World) and all I could think about was this thread, lol. Sugar Rush Echo narrowed her eyes skeptically when Remus insisted that James never cheated. Maybe that was true, but she was convinced he would have gone that step further had he been able to without getting caught. His stunts and tricks were bad enough, she wouldn't have been surprised if he'd taken it there. "Hmmm." She stopped herself from making any further comments on Potter's flying habits. She'd never get past Remus' 'defend a friend' mode, it seemed, so there was no point trying. She did admire his loyalty to his mate, though, especially since said mate was a bit of a rebel. It was nice to see others willing to stand by their friends no matter what. Echo was cut from the same cloth, but she knew not everyone was so loyal, some people would run screaming and leave you to your fate, even if they were doing it by just failing to stick up for you when someone was making false claims about you. Ah, well, Remus was a good'un, it seemed, and that brought a smile to Echo's face. "Oh, I believe that," she told him with a nod of her head. "You come across as a genuinely decent guy. I'm sure you were the Jiminy Cricket of the gang." Would he know about the muggle cartoon movie Pinocchio? She had come across so many baffled people in her six and a half years at Hogwarts that she was surprised she still bothered to make muggle references, but they just slipped out. She couldn't erase her muggle father from her life that easily. He might have died four years ago, but he was still a huge part of who she was, and she didn't really want that to change. Whether he had any idea who Jiminy Cricket was or not, a bar of triple fudge mint choc toffee swirl praline was practically waving at her from the shelf, and that stole her attention enough for her to not really be too bothered about what Remus did or didn't know of the muggle world. Heck, he could have been a muggleborn himself for all she knew. It didn't really matter anyway. That bar of sin did, though. She eyed Remus to see if he was watching her before trying to subtly take one of the praline bars off of the shelf, tucking it into her sweetie bag and sliding back into conversation like she hadn't just decided to buy a treat straight from hell itself. It had to be to be that yummy, right? Completely naughty. "The Canons are great," she agreed with a grin, enjoying talking about Quidditch immensely. "I'm an Arrows fan. Imagine if I could get myself a spot as an Arrow! They'd soon be top of the league," she added cheekily, imagining herself in the Appleby Arrows uniform, flying out there at the Quidditch World Cup, people screaming her name and waving banners declaring "We love Everwood!" That was the ultimate dream, and not for the fans and the banners, but for the sheer joy it would bring to be able to do what she was best at for years, and for her skill to be recognised. To finally not be the average Hufflepuff student who has to work her backside off just to get an A in certain classes. To just be Echo Everwood, the girl who is fierce on a broom and can almost take someone's head off with a Bludger. Well, that would just be perfect. Of course she'd settle for any team that would have her, really, it didn't have to be the Arrows, but she could hope. "What do you do?" she asked, realising she knew nothing about Remus as an adult, as a guy who had been out in the world for a good eight months. "Or what do you want to do?" she amended, realising that it could take time to get yourself into something. There were probably far too many kids who graduated from school and had a job lined up for them, a house gifted to them by their outrageously rich parents, and not a care in the world, but for the little folk, the normal folk, it took time. Maybe Remus was one of those lucky people who had it all worked out, but she got the impression that he was as normal and down to earth as she was, which probably didn't mean he was rolling in money and servants. It was unfortunate, but it was rare to find a really nice super rich person. There were a few, she wasn't one to judge too harshly, but the majority were snobs and elitists. The majority wouldn't be seen dead buying stashes of chocolates in Honeydukes when they could have a house elf do it for them. Echo would never be like that. Even if she found herself rich one day, she would never take advantage of it, and she would always be found filling a bag full of treats in the middle of her favourite shop. _______________________ tag: @junebug notes: Oh my gawwwd, I'd LOVE to go there! | | With a barely suppressed smile, Remus glanced at the girl from the corner of his eye at the sound she made. It seemed clearly evident that she did not believe him that James never cheated in the games. Whether or not he did, Remus knew he'd be rather affronted by the accusation. It might have been amusing to see him defend himself against Echo, who seemed just as passionate about the sport- but then, some might call Remus an instigator (and wouldn't necessarily be incorrect). Still, Gryffindor had won the House Cup enough times that he certainly wasn't going to complain either way. The boy nearly laughed out loud at her assessment of him, nodding once. Dumbledore and McGonagall, he assumed, thought the same thing, and it was the reason he figured he'd become a Prefect. They had to have assumed that giving Remus any kind of power might mean he'd be a better influence on the other boys. In reality, it just make some of their shenanigans and fun a little easier. Remus was an influence after all, though not necessarily a good one. He just managed to fly under the radar a bit better than most. It was a skill he appreciated, and to some degree, was vital to living a normal life, or as normal as could be expected for the boy. By seventh year, it was clear that their head of house and the headmaster had given up, and rather just embraced the chaos, and James had become Head Boy. The other three of them had a field day with that when they found out. "Sure, you could say that." He was at least glad that the facade had held. "You may not be keen to admit it, but I think there's a bit of an instigative streak in you." He could appreciate that in a person. It showed signs of intelligence, and in some cases, leadership. The instigators were the ones who really made change happen, even if they weren't the ones making waves themselves. Sometimes, all the doers needed was a push in the right direction. "Oh, they're a good team, too." The Arrows were Peter's team of choice, if he remembered correctly. "You could, probably. Don't they have a couple of Hogwarts alumns on the team? Or they did last season, I believe." Again, he was at a loss for the names of those players, but in school, that was a pretty common dream. If so and so could make it... It was never his dream, but he definitely didn't knock anyone who wanted to go in that direction. He was actually pretty surprised when James opted out of it, and even Sirius, but then, a brewing war tended to change everyone's mind about those kind of things. Remus, on the other hand, rather liked his feet staying solidly on the ground without bludgers aimed at his head. No part of that sounded like fun, honestly. He didn't even comment on the reference to the movie, forgetting for a moment that a lot of his peers wouldn't have understood what she was saying. He'd grown up on all those things, though, and hearing about them was just second nature. (First nature?) He could appreciate a good pop culture reference, though, and it was nice having someone who understood muggle references around. Her well intended question made him falter, and his smile dropped, only slightly and for a split second. "I'm currently looking," he said quickly, though he hated even having to say that. It made him sound... what? Lazy, like he had no marketable skills. For a kid who'd worked impossibly hard in school, that was a hard notion to swallow. "Afraid I'm still working on that, though. Still a child, and haven't narrowed it down yet. But I'd like to teach, I think. Maybe Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts, yeah?" He grinned at this, but it was actually one of his favorite classes. Either that or Charms, but at the rate his luck seemed to be holding out, he might end up being an substitute for Potions. Or maybe just unemployed for the rest of his life. "I wouldn't mind being an editor for the Daily Prophet, though." He glanced at the shelf to his left and grabbed one of the Triple Fudge bars, raising it. "Cheers, hm?" The sparkle in his eye suggested that he'd definitely seen her grab one as well. "Well, I think I'm all set in the sweets department, but I was thinking of heading over to the Three Broomsticks for lunch, if you had any interest?" He'd be fine either way, but she was kind and it was nice to have company, wasn't it? She probably had friends she was heading out to meet, but he'd be rude not to extend the offer before heading to the check out till. Tag: Echo Arista Everwood Words: 815 Notes: | |

Sugar Rush His scrutiny of her made Echo smile more than it should. She'd never really thought of herself as an instigator in any way, more a reactor, she couldn't stop herself in most situations if her buttons were being pushed. "I've never been called that before," she admitted with a grin, not sure if it was a good or bad thing. "I'm more the can't control my mouth and make situations worse kind of person, to be honest." Well that made her sound wonderful, didn't it. Describe yourself as a big mouth with no brain to mouth filter and a knack for worsening situations. Very nice. Of course she had a heart of gold, and her temper was usually flared when it came to protecting or standing up to or for people. She was a warrior at heart, though not enough of one to want to have any part in this war that was brewing, no thank you. She'd fight her own battles, and those of her friends and family, but not the worlds, that was for far braver folk than Echo Everwood, no matter how mean her right hook was. "They did," she nodded happily, glad to be talking to someone who knew their Quidditch. Or knew it well enough. The fact that people who had been through school just a few years before her were now playing in the pro leagues was highly encouraging. It gave her hope, and Echo didn't have a clue what she would do if that hope was shattered and she didn't make it. She wasn't the most intelligent person out there, she had to work really hard to get average grades, and flying was the only thing that came naturally to her. If she couldn't dedicate her life to it, then she had no backup plans. She had a knack for healing, but it wasn't something she enjoyed at all, as caring as she was, looking after people all day every day just seemed like a chore to her. Her mum and friends encouraged her to become a Healer, but she didn't want it for herself. If she didn't make it in the Quidditch world, she would undoubtedly end up working in a bar somewhere and punching drunks in the face every night for a living. "Hopefully I can do the same," she smiled wistfully and gave a shrug. Remus confirmed that he had no job as of yet, and Echo thought that he wasn't doing too bad. He had ideas, which was more than she had. "That's great that you know what you'd like to do, though," she encouraged. "I mean, if you don't end up teaching D.A.D.A, and I fall off my broom trying out for the Arrows, we could always open a sweet shop together somewhere," she laughed, crinkling her nose as he waved a triple fudge bar at her, having spied her sneaking one into her own bag. Caught. Oh, well. He decided that he had enough goodies in his bag for the time being, and Echo had to agree, though her ears tingled at the mention of lunch at the three broomsticks. A sure fire way into Echo's good books: Food of any kind. How could she say no to that? Besides, she was really enjoying talking to Remus, it might actually be fun to have a bite with him, it would at least be easy, since she found him a dream to talk to. "Uhh, sure," she nodded. "I don't have any other plans. It's better than sitting at the fountain in the square eating fudge flies by myself." Very true, though she would have done that all the same. Echo made a beeline for the counter as she spoke, her free hand rummaging in her pocket for some coins to pay the witch who was waiting to serve them. _______________________ tag: @junebug notes: <3 outfit: Comfy and warm. template by izzy[googlefont="Over the Rainbow"]

| | Remus nodded sagely, as though she was telling him vital information about herself. "I am well familiar with people of that sort. Luckily, I'm rather good as talking my way out of trouble, so I'm a handy person to have around." He decided in that moment that he liked Echo well enough. She was easy to talk to and he felt instantly comfortable with her. For an introvert, that was saying a lot about his present company. "Although, you're in Hufflepuff, so you can't be that bad." Most Hufflepuffs, or at least all of the ones he knew, were very compassionate people and friendly. Little rays of sunshine, the lot of them, if he was so bold as to generalize. He very carefully rolled the top of his bag, folding it in a practiced, compulsive sort of way so as not to lose the contents. He also had a very precise inventory in his head to mention at the till, and waited for her to be ready as well. He was very much the gentleman when presented with the opportunity. Like her, though he didn't have a problem being loyal to the very end and standing up for people in need. And, of course, he was in the Order and very much ready to be involved in the war, whatever form that too. He desperately wanted to help and prove that he was worth something. At some point in life, he was sure he would be given the opportunity. "Honestly, I think you can. The Quidditch thing, I mean." The teams were almost always recruiting, and she actually had an advantage with the war going on. It was one of the things he remembered learning about the muggle movie industry and WWII- when times were dark, people wanted to escape. Even if it was for an hour long movie, or a Quidditch match. Anything that would take their minds off of a darker reality that they lived every day. He of course didn't say any of this to her because it was dark and a pretty bleak outlook on things, even if it was how he figured she'd get into professional Quidditch. No one wanted to hear that and no one, especially those who did not directly want to fight for the war effort, wanted that kind of responsibility on their shoulders. Remus got it. "I hear all of the teams are recruiting in record numbers the last couple of years, so the odds are in your favor. That, and if I remember correctly, you are rather talented on the pitch." His small smile reflected in the case holding all sorts of cauldron cakes and caramel apples and impossible-to-melt ice cream and the sort. "I appreciate the encouragement," he said with a chuckle, free hand running through hair that was nearly as messy as James' normally was. "A sweet shoppe wouldn't be so bad. At least I wouldn't be spending all my money on chocolate every few weeks." He didn't even stutter over the sentence, so used to not slipping and giving anything away about the full moon or monthly problems or anything like that. Still, it continually surprised him that he was so good about it. Then again, while not exactly a matter of life or death, it was close enough and may as well have been. "Though I'm absolute shite at potions and candy making... same thing, really, so I hope you'd be a good confectioner." At this, he grinned, and the two finally made their way to the till and each paid for their respective bags of sweets. Ever his gentlemanly self, Remus held the door open for her on the way out, and they headed towards the Three Broomsticks. "I'm starving... think it was smelling all that chocolate in there," he gestured behind them towards Honeydukes, and his stomach growled as if on cue. Sugar Rush "Well obviously I'm made of rainbows and sparkles," she joked at his comment that she couldn't be that bad if she was a Hufflepuff. Honestly, Echo didn't see herself as bad at all, just fiery, and there was nothing wrong with that when it was used to stand up for yourself and your loved ones. She was no saint, but she might have had a tiny bit of rainbow about her. "Sounds like I should keep you around, then," she added, thinking that she really could use someone in her life with the ability to smooth situations over when her mouth got the better of her. It would be very handy indeed. Plus he was cute, looking at that face a bit more wouldn't hurt at all. Not in a pervy way, definitely not, but she could appreciate a pretty face when she saw one. She wouldn't be telling Remus that, there was honest, and then there was just unnecessarily awkward, which she was not. And now she was just getting way off track. "Well thank ya very much," she grinned, taking the Quidditch compliment on the chin and trying not to feel uncomfortable about it. She was good, she should own that! She did duck her head after the grin, and busied herself with paying the witch at the counter. Finished with her purchase, she stepped to the side to wait for Remus to pay for his own stash of sweets as he chatted about being rubbish at potions. Was he the male version of Echo? She was beginning to wonder, minus the whole being able to control his mouth thing. She laughed and tried to disguise it as clearing her throat. "You know what, maybe we should get someone else to make the sweets, and we can just taste test them. I'm crap at potions, too." Though she could make a mean pizza, but that technically wasn't cooking, was it. He held the door for her as they left the shop, and she ducked under his arm and out into the street, a spring in her step which was very much down to the happy morning she was accidentally having. "I'm not gonna lie, I'd usually have at least half a bar eaten by the time I get out of the shop," she told him, cringing. She was hungry for something other than junk food, though, and The Three Broomsticks always had pretty nice food for just a pub. The village was busy, but the pair dodged through the crowds until they reached the pub and headed inside. It was packed, but there were a few empty tables, and Echo nodded to the nearest one, which had a good few people blocking it from them. "Reckon we could fight our way through?" she joked, perfectly willing to go shoving through a crowd to get to the table, though she was only small, the taller people in their way might not even notice her until they felt her elbow in their ribs. _______________________ tag: @junebug notes: <3 outfit: Comfy and warm. template by izzy[googlefont="Over the Rainbow"]

| | The boy smiled widely, his grin genuine and boyish, making him look even younger than he was. Even when he was ten or twelve, that smile could put him at about 8 or so. The older he got, the more he embraced that, but at 15, he'd hated it. That was the age of adolescence, of course, when he was trying to impress girls and hated being told he was cute or adorable. At 19, he took it as more of a compliment, but he still wouldn't mind looking his age when he smiled. "Why do you think the boys kept me around? I come in kind of handy sometimes." Merlin knew there'd been a number of detentions that Remus had artfully talked them out of, which was no small feat when all four of them were self-proclaimed masterminds. It also helped him that many people equated quietness with innocence, and he certainly used that to his advantage more than once. And still, somehow, he left with the teachers loving him. He followed her through the throngs of students, and if he'd wondered why he came on a Hogsmeade weekend earlier, he didn't mind so much now. There was a certain familiarity and nostalgia that weaved through his heartbeats- and while Remus wasn't one to wax poetic, there was a part of him that felt like he was coming home. He would never say any of that out loud, though, just knowing he'd be teased mercilessly for it, but he was grateful he'd chosen to come that day. Besides, he was making a new friendship along the way, and what harm was there in that? "Our candy business is already failing, and we've not even begun yet. We already need a third partner?" he laughed, thinking how nice it might have been to actually have a business plan like that. Somehow, he didn't think running a candy shop was right for him, but at this point, he'd take just about anything that came his way. Wasn't going to be much a candy shop if neither of them could make the candy, though, and Remus knew that candy making was effectively chemistry, as was Potions, and it seemed like they were completely out of luck in their fantasy venture together. "At least we know our books would be accurate and immaculately up to date. The best bookkeeping in all of Diagon Alley." That's where Remus excelled, outside of Charms and DADA, was his almost singular attention to detail, or as Sirius and James called it, he was a control freak. He didn't mind it terribly. And then they were inside the Three Broomsticks, and Remus was immediately reminded why it was actually best to avoid school weekends in town. The pub was packed, leaving Remus well out of his comfort zone. He much preferred a quiet atmosphere, but here they were. The boy wasn't quite prepared for the blonde at his side to go fighting her way through the crowd, so Remus took that on himself, half a step in front of her and uttering a lot of sorry's and please excuse me's until he reached back to take her hand, making sure he didn't lose her. Sugar Rush Their battle through the crowd was uncomfortable, to say the least. Thanks to it being pretty cold outside, everyone was wearing chunky coats and big boots for her to trip over. She wasn't the most graceful creature, but she managed to not step on any toes. Something touched her hand as she carried on squeezing past people in the noisy pub, and she almost lashed out in surprise until she glanced down and realised it was Remus taking hold of her hand. It was a strange moment, and Echo smirked. She definitely wasn't the kind of girl to need someone to hold her hand so she wouldn't get trampled by beasts, so to speak, she could definitely tame a beast or two with ease, so it was funny to have a guy show some sort of protective urge towards her. Protective probably wasn't even the right word. Chivalrous? Maybe. Either way it was half insulting and half sweet, and she allowed it as they worked for that table, managing not to get separated. If anyone beat them to it, she'd be making a scene arguing with them. Luckily they made it through in one piece, and quick enough to claim the table, and Echo released Remus' hand pretty quickly and shrugged off her jacket, hanging it over the back of one of the chairs and glancing at the crowd around the bar. "You are insane for coming here on a Hogsmeade weekend," she laughed, glad that someone would come over and take their order and they wouldn't have to queue up at the bar for ages. She sank into her seat with a sigh of relief. It was good to know she could just chill out for a bit. Plus, food. Where there was food, there was always a happy Echo nearby. She picked up one of the menus from the table and gave it a quick glance. She really already knew most of the things that they served here, since she'd been here, well, a lot over the years. They had so many nice things for just a pub, but she kind of already knew what she wanted without having to look. Still, Remus didn't need to know that she'd practically memorised the menu. That was just embarrassing. If that kind of information got back to James, she'd never live it down whenever she saw him. No, she could pretend to peruse the meals on offer for a bit. _______________________ tag: @junebug notes: <3 outfit: Comfy and warm. template by izzy[googlefont="Over the Rainbow"]
