PERSONALITY Boggart: Tristan would see his father's dead body. The thought of being an orphan scares him, not so much for himself, but for his siblings and how losing another parents would affect them. The thought of facing that day in years to come is something that fills him with a special kind of dread. Mirror of Erised: Tristan would see himself living to an old, old age. He would have an insane amount of life experience and adventures under his belt, and he would be still teaching, passing his knowledge on to new generations. A family of his own might be nice, too, but at the moment he desires expansion of mind and soul more than expansion of his loins, though he enjoys that as a side hobby. Patronus: Dolphin - Tristan's happiest memory is from the time he put on a drunken sock puppet show to his friends in Italy. In broken Italian. Funniest night of his life. Tristan is intelligent above all else, and was quite competitive with it through his school years. He likes to be the best, the smartest, the fastest to learn new things, though he doesn't shove it in people's faces, just knowing he's the best in a subtle way is fine with him, he doesn't need glory to go along with it. He's not the arrogant sort who likes to brag, his competitiveness is kept to himself mostly, unless it's for something fun. He was never really into sports, preferring to spend his time with books or experiencing new things, and the most athletic he gets is in the bedroom, which he likes to think is a place he also excels. He is active in life in general, and is no stranger to a bit of mountain climbing, or swimming and other things that are necessary for adventure, but you won't find him on a Qudditch pitch, or jogging around the block. He's not vain, so doesn't feel the need to use fitness as a tool for making girls fall at his feet, he knows he has an unconventional beauty that does the job just as well as muscles might. Tristan is kind, and spent most of his childhood looking out for his siblings and loving to see them happy. He would soothe them as babies, and try his best to teach them as toddlers, loving it when Lionel mastered the alphabet after weeks of Tristan repeating it to him in song, and feeling incredibly proud when Lunete took her first steps after he'd held her hand for months, holding her up while she toddled around, gripping onto anything she could to keep herself upright. He distanced himself physically from his family after he left school, but his heart has always been with them, despite the fact that he just had to follow his dreams and see the world. He is very protective over them, especially since the loss of their mother almost two years ago, and he makes every effort to play an active role in their lives now that he's settled back in the country. He enjoys being able to teach again, and is a very patient and thorough influence in his students lives, making sure they know they can always turn to him for any help they need, and handling the young girls who take his class just to giggle at him with grace and humour. Tristan makes a good friend, he's logical and quite funny, and is happy to go out for drinks any day of the week, though his new schedule as an Astronomy Professor means his nights are quite busy, something he's trying to adapt to while still keeping an active social life. He likes to stay in the dating game, and is a sucker for a pretty face, though he won't be sucked in in any serious way unless there's a personality to match the good looks. He makes a very attentive partner to whoever he is with, though he values intelligence and wit and decency. Girls who whore themselves about to any half handsome bloke will not hold his attention at all. All in all, he's sensible, loving, charming, sociable, flirty, adventurous, and probably smarter than you in a lot of ways, though he won't brag. HISTORY Mother: Rosemary "Rosie" Dearborn, muggle, deceased Father: James "Jim" Dearborn, 60, muggle Siblings: Caradoc Dearborn, 32, muggleborn. Percival Dearborn, 24, muggleborn. Lionel Dearborn, 21, muggleborn. Lunete Dearborn, 19, muggleborn. Partners: None. Others: Loki, a 2 year old Bengal cat. The second child of Rosie and Jim Dearborn, Tristan was born in early winter, as the trees shed the last of their leaves, and Jack Frost began to creep out at night and turn the gardens silver with ice. A good baby, Tristan was never any trouble for his parents, and picked things up quickly, early to walk and talk and do things for himself. He was the baby of the family for a good three or four years before he became a big brother for the first time, and toddler Tristan was pleased to have another sibling to interact with, to teach, to learn from, to play with. He was happy and sociable as a youngster, and soon learned all about caring for and loving someone smaller and more vulnerable than himself. One night when baby Percival was only two months old, Tristan heard him crying in the night. His parents were downstairs and hadn't heard, so Tristan crept into the baby's room and stood beside the cot, sticking his small hand through the bars and stroking Percy's head, uttering soothing words and noises, but nothing would calm the infant. Tristan's blue eyes drifted upwards to the little star mobile that hung above Percival's head. That would soothe him, it always did, but Tristan couldn't reach. Percy began to get more and more distressed, and Tristan only remembers feeling desperate to help his baby brother, and frustrated that he was just too small. He knows now that the star mobile lighting up and playing it's tinkling music seemingly out of the blue, was actually Tristan's first show of magic, but back then, he was quite astounded. His mother's voice sounded in the doorway as she called his name softly, Percy drifting back off to sleep. She had seen. She told him it was very sweet of him to try and comfort his brother, and took him back to his own room to settle Tristan in bed with a tender kiss on his forehead. He has many fond memories of his mother's love, and many more fond memories of growing up with his siblings. Lionel came along next, and then finally little Lunete, the baby of the family. Tristan only got to spend Lula's first three years with her before he got his Hogwarts letter and went off to join Caradoc to learn magic. He felt terrible leaving hi younger siblings behind, so used to playing the big brother role since Caradoc had been away, and nervous as to whether they'd miss him too much or not. He was sorted into Ravenclaw, and settled in well with the other eagles, finding himself surrounded by others who came by learning as easily as Tristan did was refreshing, though it definitely stirred something competitive in him, and he found that he didn't like not being the best quite so much. He threw himself into his studies for his first few years, wanting to get the best marks in all of his work, and wanting to be seen as the cleverest Ravenclaw in his year, not liking it one bit that there were others on par with him. He found himself becoming competitive in other areas of his life, too, as he got older, and soon had himself established as a heartthrob among the girls of he castle. A bit of a casanova, for lack of a better term, he enjoyed flirting and kissing and eventually more once he hit his fifth year and learned a few things. He had girlfriends, though never longer than six months, and he was popular and charming, even managing to land himself the Prefect spot in his fifth year, which he was pleased as punch over as it was a sign that his hard work had paid off and he was indeed the best in his year and house. Despite all of his competitiveness, which was mostly kept to himself so he didn't appear to be a complete arsehole to his peers, he remained a nice lad. Decent, kind, well-mannered and well loved by his friends and professors, his drive to be the best was never accompanied by arrogance or cruelty, and he saw it as fun, a challenge, something to make his days that bit more engaging for him and entertaining. Plus, his parents were thrilled with the grades he was getting. He had his first really serious girlfriend in his sixth year, one elegant beauty by the name of Geralina Drake. She was a Hufflepuff, and just gorgeous, but completely unassuming and unaware of how amazing she was. Tristan had befriended her many years ago, but always held a torch for her, not wanting to push her out of her comfort zone by flirting too much with her. One night after Hufflepuff had just won their Quidditch match against Slytherin, Tristan joined in the celebrations, and somehow upon congratulating Geralina on her impressive catch of the Snitch, they ended up snogging. That was the beginning of an almost two year relationship that was forced to end when they graduated, thanks to them living so far apart and heading in different directions in life. Geralina was a home bird, and Tristan wanted to travel while he was still young, so they parted ways on good terms, but didn't see each other again for many years. Tristan traveled through Europe through his early twenties, picking up muggle jobs as he went along to fund his adventures, and enrolling in a Muggle college in Italy where he studied languages, becoming fluent in Italian, French, Spanish and Latin before moving on to France at the age of twenty five, where he settled for two years to teach English as a foreign language to children in a Muggle primary school. He adored teaching and being around kids, who kept his playful spark alive, and his mind agile, though Tristan missed his family dearly. He would go back as much as possible to see his parents, and would spend weeks over the summer holidays back at home so that he had time with his younger siblings who were stuck at Hogwarts. One of his regular summer visits was the catalyst for great change in Tristan's life, when on 4th July 1977 his mother's life was taken in a horrific car crash. Tristan felt numb. Because he had been away from his family for so long, it didn't affect him like it did his siblings, and he internalised a lot of his grief, choosing to be supporting for his brothers and sister instead. He was devastated, of course, and the loss of a parent is horrific whether you see them everyday or once a year, but Tristan found a strength in himself that day. He offered to bear the bad news to Lunete, who was at Quidditch tryouts for the professional teams, and though he didn't want to ruin her chances, he knew that she would want to be told straight away. He spoke to one of the scouts at the side of the pitch, who decided to call Lunete from the air immediately. Tristan remembers her confused face, he remembers wanting to tell her to get back on her broom and chase her dream, he remembers wanting nothing more than to make it all go away for her, Tristan could cope, but how would little Lunete get through this? He broke the news as plainly and gently as possible, and wrapped his sister in a protective embrace, seeing her home and deciding then and there that he needed to return to England. His family needed him close by, near enough to just be able to apparate to them on a whim. Moving back into the family home with his father, Tristan did odd jobs for a while, not really sure where to go with his life, as he felt the path of teaching he had been on was over. Traveling by the stars and learning as he went was a thing of the past. Lost for almost a year, it hit him hard when a sign finally flew his way last summer. An owl delivering newspapers to the townsfolk in Hogsmeade dropped it's load accidentally, right on Tristan's head as he was shopping in the small village. The newspaper crashed to the ground and fluttered open to a page calling for a new Astronomy Professor at Hogwarts. A chill ran through his entire body as he bent and picked up the newspaper, reading over the advert. Astronomy Professor. That had been one of his favourite subjects as a teen, and he remembered fond night spent with Geralina up n the tower, nights he would never speak of to a soul. A smile on his face, he immediately set about applying for the job, and got the position only weeks before the start date in September. Enjoying how fast it was all moving, Tristan was excited, and rather amused to find his old flame working at the castle, though their encounters so far have been a little bit awkward, he hopes to have a good friend in the librarian, and has settled into his role at the school as though he had been there his entire life. He sees his family regularly now, making sure to impose upon their lives as much as every weekend if they allow him, and he feels like he's finally on a good path in life, once more.
