So students weren't allowed out at this time of night, and rightfully so! There was no telling what the little devils would get up to with a whole, dark castle to roam. Lenore knew all too well of the things she'd gotten up to and it was a wonder that there were no teenage pregnancies, but then again there always Professors out and about, Prefects, Quidditch captains, the Head Girl and the Head boy, keeping an eye on everything that was after dark or after the first set of curfew. Lenore snuck out more than she should have, occasionally it had involved a boy that she'd make out with for a little while but she never did more than that! It would have been absurd to the Hufflepuff at such an age in such a location but she knew many that didn't think the same way as her. She had her first kiss at sixteen, slept with her first love at twenty-one and she was happy with that. Her whole life she only wanted connection, she thoughts she'd found it once. And twice. Even thrice. Sadly none of them worked out, she was al little too much for them all it seemed. She was never exactly sure what the problem was but her relationships never lasted longer than a year but that was okay, they weren't the right fit for her, despite all her efforts, but someone would be.
Still, most of her time spent sneaking out was for the kitchen. There wasn't a place in Hogwarts that she loved more. It had a brilliant fire ;place, house elves that waited on you and all the food. All. The. FOOD! If you wanted something absolutely delicious then this was the place to get it, they'd bend over backwards to accomodate anyone and Lenore was up for a snack time! As Head of Hufflepuff house she had a duty to patrol the corridors when the prefects had gone back to their dorms. They reported to her and headed off on their merry little way. She then had to patrol for a few hours, make sure the little 'uns were all where they should be and then she could head back to her own bed for a while before starting the day anew. Right now she was tickling a rather squeamish pear, smiling with glee as it squirmed about. Lenore felt she really could have spent the better half of a day just tickling that little pear but then what would she have to eat? Plus how much of a loon would she look!? She wasn't usually all that concerned with looking a little crazy but standing around tickling a painting of a pair may raise some questions form the headmaster. Then again Dumbledore would probably just join in along with her!
Entering the large spec this time of the evening wasn't so bad. The kitchen had been tidied after dinner and things were already sorted and cleaned away. The House Elf staff were usually having a break around now and getting ready for their cleaning duties. There were always a few house elves knocking about the kitchen, just in case the likes of her ever got pekish at three o' clock in the morning which she would absolutely, totally, never, ever, wever do! Apart form all those times she already had and probably would again. She liked food. She liked snacks. She hated exercise but it seemed that her job at St Mungo's and her job here kept her active enough so she didn't gain a crazy amount of weight. Plus she had a good metabolism and she preyed that never left her! For now it was working brilliantly and it was time to gorge herself on something chocolatey! So she wandered into the kitchen and started exploring. It was definitely a chocolatey kind of time.

Before the Night Begins Geralina stomped her snow covered boots on the floor, the sound echoing off of the walls in the entrance hall and seeming to bounce along every corridor and hallway. Wincing at the noise she hadn't intended to make, she bit her lip and made sure the large front doors were sealed tightly behind her. A new delivery of books had just arrived and she had had to meet the three huge boxes of tomes down at the front gates of the castle and sign for them, since nobody was allowed to bring them up to the front doors, or indeed the library, to pass them in to her. It was no trouble, really, she didn't mind trekking through the snow in the dark, especially if it helped the castle to remain safe from intruders. The walk was just beautiful, and one of the castle cats - she had no idea which student or staff member it belonged to - had kept her company in the dark, yowling and winding around her feet. She'd been careful not to trip over the pretty ginger feline as she had levitated the boxes of books back to the castle, where they now floated in the air waiting to be taken to their final home in the library. A meek meow at her feet caused Geralina to glance down, grey-blue eyes meeting amber ones in the dim light. "Go to your owner," she whispered, crouching down to tickle the cats cheeks affectionately for a minute before standing up and pulling her chunky blue coat tighter around her shoulders. Fires might have been lit in the common rooms and staff quarters, but it was cold in the rest of the castle, particularly at night in the middle of winter. She didn't mind working late shifts since it gave her her mornings free, and she'd spent the morning having brunch with her friend Tersha, and had been subjected to the woman's vanity when she'd been dragged to a magical salon to get her nails done. They were now a lovely bright blue, which apparently made her eyes pop, but Geralina wasn't sure. It had been nice to get pampered, though, and she liked that side of Tersha, rather than the brash, bitchy side, which wasn't usually directed at Geralina, thank Merlin. She gave a swish of her wand and followed the boxes as they traveled up the marble staircase, trailing after them through the castle until she reached the library. She pushed the doors open with her bum and guided the books into the back room, ready to be sorted tomorrow. She was supposed to be on duty until ten thirty, then was free to go home, though she did have her own quarters in the castle if she ever wished to stay the night. Geralina never had so far, but she knew she would enjoy being taken back to fond memories of her school years the day she did stay overnight. As it was, her pets needed her at home, so she would be returning to them as soon as her shift was over, but there was no time to sort the new books, and if she started, she'd want to finish and end up sitting up in the library until well after midnight. No, it was definitely a job for tomorrow, which meant she had time to kill before she went home. That only meant one thing. She'd eaten her dinner hours ago down in the great hall, but there was an unmistakable grumble in her stomach. Without another moment of hesitation, Geralina turned on her heel and headed down the familiar path she had walked for years as a teen, to the kitchens. She passed her old common room with a fond smile, as she did every time she visited, and meandered the basement hallways until she reached the portrait of the pear, reaching out a delicate finger and giving it a gentle tickle, her nose crinkling as she grinned at it's giggles. "Sorry!" she whispered, retracting her hand quickly. "I won't torment you." She knew she didn't like to be tickled for too long, it was fun, but only in short bursts, and kindness should extend even to portraits of fruit. She entered the kitchens, pleased to see a fire crackling in the fireplace across the room, and glanced around for signs of house elves who might want to give her a hand. She was happy to help herself, but she'd been down here often enough to know that the elves didn't just have chocolate cake laying around all the time, and if she wanted her usual order, she had to actually put in a request. Not that it was a restaurant, and the elves certainly weren't waiters, they were helpful friends who she was very grateful for! She ventured further into the room, nearly jumping out of her skin when a tiny voice sounded out from behind her. "Can Mormin help you, Miss Drake?" the elf squeaked, bowing his head to her. "Mormin will whip up a chocolate cake in no time if Miss wants it," he offered, large eyes eager. Geralina couldn't help but laugh. "Do I come down here that often, Mormin?" she asked with a cringe and a nod of her head. "I am hungry," she confirmed, feeling bad that she was asking the little elf to do more work than the busy workload he already had, but knowing the house elves actually enjoyed their work at the castle. "Mormin will be right back, Miss Drake. Don't go far!" Geralina opened her mouth to speak. "Please call me Gera -" Mormin vanished before she could finish speaking. "- lina." She pressed her ruby lips together, leaning against the counter beside her as she wondered whether to wait there for him or go and find a seat somewhere. He'd find her wherever in the room she was, though it was pretty big, and sitting sounded like a treat after trudging through the snow. Making her mind up in less than the usual five hours, she turned and strolled through the kitchens towards the fire, turning a corner and letting out a too loud scream when she crashed face first right into someone. Arms coming up to cover her face, Geralina clasped one hand over her mouth to shut herself up, heart thundering in her chest from the fright she'd had, and gaped wide eyed at the woman she had just slammed into. "Nora!?" she gasped at the Potions Professor. "You might as well have been You Know Who, I nearly had a heart attack! I'm so sorry!"_______________________ tag: @lenore notes: Outfit <3 template by izzy[googlefont="Lovers Quarrel"]

Oh bloody Merlin what was happening!? Lenora stumbled this way and tried to regain her balance only to stumble that way and nock into the table closet to her. She recognised a familiar voice and straightened herself up, looking a little sheepish at not having looked at where she was going. She wasn't used to coming across anyone else in the kitchens, usually it was just her and the house elves, not that she minded Geralina in the slightest! She was lovely and over the past year they'd gotten closer. It would have been better if Paris had still been alive and she could have gotten to know the two over time but sadly it was what it was and what it was was sad. "I'm so sorry!" She said, talking over, Geralina, "Sorry!" She said again, "Just me, no one else, no You know Who I don't think." She said taking a quick glance over her shoulder, certain no one was there but just in case.
"Are you okay? I didn't hurt you did I? I wasn't paying attention and I," She fumbled her hands together around in front of her, pouting her lips and making a sort of attempt at a crashing noise. Geralina was already aware of what had happened. They'd both obviously been there, involved in the situation that had happened all of two seconds ago but if Geralina was hurt then Lenore was just going to be absolutely mortified! Lenore wasn't really any clumsier than the average person, she thought, but she did have her moments and this was clearly one of them. At least if Geralina was hurt in any way, Lenore had the skills necessary to see to it that she had any pain or discomfort eased immediately. Or as close to immediately as it took to find a potion in her bag. It probably seemed a little odd to have such things in her bag but ... oh shoot! Lenore realised she hadn't brought her bag. Her wand was tucked away in her cloak and she had nothing for pain relief on her if Geralina was in need of such a thing! How bloody stupid of her! She always had something, even in the depths of her robe pocket but not this time, not when she'd actually possibly caused harm to someone. Agh! She was just all over the place tonight and she had no hope of regaining her composure toni- Oh! Chocolate! She spied on a little platter. Had they known she was coming, that wasn't there before, was it? Had they just snuck it there while Lenore smashed into Geralina? Possibly, they were swift!

“It was going to be a long night” she thought to herself as she started her rounds in the dimly lit infirmary. Due to a few students ordered to stay over night for care, Carmen had to stay in the castle for a few days. It makes more sense for her to move into the welcoming castle for both cost and safety, but with a rambunctious toddler... it would seem unlucky to happen any time soon. She was still fairly new here and did not want to overstep the headmasters hospitality.
She walked up to a bed that held a sleeping 3rd year, pulling out her wand and pressing the tip against the exposed wrist of the tiny girl. Whispering a spell, she reviewed the girl’s vitals and was relieved that they were back to normal. Her fever had broke and her body was now resting without strain. Since she took the position at the beginning of winter, she has seen a lot of flu like symptoms coming in. She has been trying to isolate it as much as possible to avoid an outbreak to happen within the castle. All of those in the infirmary tonight were here for the same reason. She tucked the bed sheet around the small girl to keep her warm during the night before turning to check on the remaining few in the other beds. The only light in the large room came from a roaring fireplace that casted shadows onto the stone walls and floor. When she was finished, she had no idea how late it was. All she knew was that she needed some coffee in her system to get through the night. Before she could leave, she walked through the archway next to the fireplace that housed her office. The room was once spacious but now the walls were covered in shelves filled with bottles full of liquid and creams. Her desk sat in the middle, scrolls littering the surface. She stepped inside and walked past her desk to the door leading into the spare bedroom where she was staying for the next few days. She peaked inside as quietly as she could, pushing the door open just enough to spot her sleeping daughter on the bed that they were to share. It was going to be long night, she reminded herself again and began to crave warm coffee and maybe even a pastry. She summon the house elf that helps her around the hospital wing, “Greeny, I will be stepping out for a bit. Will you keep an eye out for the students and my daughter while I am away?” The elf nods her head, “Yes Miss,” With that, she left the wing of the castle and made the trek through the dark castle.
Soon enough, she had made her way into the kitchen, being greeted by a scream. Her heart jumping into her throat as she thought something terrible has happened. She whipped out her wand and rushed through the kitchen, rounding the corner to find two faces that she had not excepted. “Good gracious ladies, you nearly gave me a heart attack!” She exclaimed while placing a hand over her racing heart. A sigh of relief left her as she leaned against the counter for support as her legs felt weak from the adrenaline.

Before the Night Begins Though Geralina's reaction was to try and remain as still as possible, hand over her mouth, the other at her chest as she tried to calm her heart rate, Lenore's reaction was to apologise and worry and flap her arms about in some sort of crazy game of charades that Geralina actually understood. "No, it's fine, I'm alright. Are you alright? I think we're both alright," she rambled, moving her hand from her mouth to run it through her hair and letting out a long calming breath as another person came crashing into view around the corner. Grey-blue eyes wide, Geralina let out a small gasp that turned into a laugh at the sight of the school healer, Carmen, who looked like she'd just sprinted for her life through the kitchens to see what the trouble was. "Sorry, Carmen," she laughed, "we're just being jumpy and weird." That was an understatement. It was late at night, but not edgy enough to make everyone ready to scream at the smallest thing, though crashing head first into someone wasn't exactly a small thing. She glanced back at Lenore. "And we've got a healer in case either of us gets a black eye!"She was joking, nobody was going to get hurt. Again. She hoped. A small tap at her knee made her glance down, and she saw Mormin the house elf hovering beside her looking like he didn't want to be rude and interrupt the three women. "Excuse me, Miss Drake," he squeaked nervously, huge eyes drifting to Lenore and Carmen. "Mormin has brought your cake." Sure enough, in his hand was a pretty enormous silver platter - enormous compared to his tiny hands - with a warm and gooey chocolate cake on it. "Oh! Thank you, Mormin!" she declared, acting quickly to take the heavy platter from the elf so he wouldn't have to struggle under it's weight any longer. The scent of warm chocolate hit her right in the face and Geralina closed her eyes and inhaled deeply, a smile caressing her ruby lips. "Ladies, I think we're set for the night," she said, lifting the cake up in front of the other women and nodding her head towards the couch by the crackling fireplace across the room. "Come on," she led the way, making sure not to tip the platter and have the cake slide to the floor, and she set it down on the coffee table in front of the couch, perching on the end cushion and lifting the knife to slice three greedy pieces. _______________________ tag: @lenore and @carmen notes: Outfit <3 template by izzy[googlefont="Lovers Quarrel"]

Oh Merlin it was all happening tonight! First she and Geralina had stumbled into one another and now they'd managed to scare the magical heck right out of Carmen! Tonight was not going to be a good night if this was the sign of things to come. The students, Lenore decided, had better well be in their beds, tucked away and fast asleep because blimey! If she caught any of them out tonight she'd probably get a fright and deduct a couple of house points, something she rarely did unless it was a repeat offence. Being out after curfew was, in Lenore's eyes, just something you did as a student at Hogwarts. She wasn't aware of anyone doing it to purposefully be a rule breaker but more because it was just fun and daring. There were the occasional students that just didn't seem to get the message or ones that decided to meet up with their school sweethearts from other houses or just for a more private setting time and time again.
Lenore smiled at Geralina's comment that at least now they had a healer. Well they'd had one all along considering she was also a fully trained and qualified healer having worked at St. Mungo's for most of her working life. Lenore had loved her job as a Healer but with the position of Potion Master opening up at Hogwarts was too good to pass up. She loved the castle and had jumped in, feet first, without even knowing if she'd get the job, but she'd applied, been interviewed a couple of times and she presumed some kind of through background search was done without her knowledge but she somehow had received the position. That was of course five years ago and this year was her second as Head of Hufflepuff. She loved teaching Potions and she took pride in her job and her house. Her students were fantastic and while they had faults, they all worked hard to overcome them and they made Lenore proud to be their head of house. Her life was near perfect, the only thing missing was something she'd never really had, not honestly, and that was true love.
Geralina had ahold of some chocolate cake when one of the house elves brought it over. Lenore didn't much fancy the chocolate cake but the platter of assorted chocolates did look divine, they'd certainly perk up her mood a little! Geralina headed off down towards the fireplace. "I'll be there in a minute." She said to the ladies and she crouched down, addressing Mormin and requesting a glass of warm milk. She also asked about the chocolates and the house elf was most insistent that she absolutely help herself. The sweet house elf even clicked his fingers, making the tray hover over towards them. Lenore gave her thanks to the house elf with positively glowing smile and stood, taking the floating tray and quickly popping a chocolate truffle into her mouth, accidentally letting slip a small moan at the delicious and perfect taste and texture. "Oh, sorry." She chuckled awkwardly and Mormin bowed, promising to get her a glass of milk, so Lenore headed down towards the sofa located in front of the cosy looking fireplace.

Carmen rested her backside against the leveled counter as she tried to calm herself, fearing the worst when she heard that scream. With how much is going on in England with these Death Eaters, she was worried they were inside the castle. For a moment, she thought she made a mistake leaving America to come here. Seeing the ladies standing there however, looking just as frazzled as her, put her mind to ease in a manner of seconds. A small smile stretching out over her lips as she let out a small laugh, mostly at herself for getting so worked up as she places her wand into the safety of her apron.
“Just try not to hurt yourselves please” she added when Geralina threw out that she was here, giving a smile to the pair. Her heart starting to calm down inside her ribcage. The adrenaline waking her up some but she still had the craving for her freshly brewed coffee. She took a moment to take a look around the large kitchen, spotting the kettle on the stove. Her heels clicking against the stone as she made her way to grab it and move to the sink to begin to fill it with water. She glanced over her shoulder at them when Geralina invited them to share the delicious looking cake.
“I will join you in a moment, I just need my coffee or else I am a nightmare” she teased, asking if they cared for a cup. Tea was the drink choice here which she liked a nice cup of tea every now and again but coffee was her vice. She placed the kettle on the stove and turned on the flame, and while she waited for it to boil she prepped the coffee grinds she found in the cabinet. She had just found a mug when she heard the whistle of the kettle, spending the next few minutes making her cup of coffee before joining the pair by the couch, claiming the right side next to the arm of the couch.

Before the Night Begins Geralina sliced the cake as the two other women excused themselves to get what they had come for. She still cut three slices in case either woman wanted some, it would be rude not to, but she left the other two along with the main body of the cake on the plate and picked her own gooey chunk of heaven up, biting into it and letting out a moan at how amazing it tasted. "Oh, Merlin," she muttered, enjoying the moment while she didn't have an audience. She could hear Lenore chatting with Mormin about something, and Carmen making coffee, but Geralina had everything she could ever want right there in her mouth. She licked her lips as Lenore, and then Carmen a moment later, made their way over to the fire place to sit with her. Best to not be a greedy piggy, though she was comfortable enough with the ladies to not have to worry too much, they likely wouldn't mind her enjoying her treat at all. She was just glad it wasn't Tristan she'd bumped into. As comfortable as they'd been together for their Hogwarts years, she would have cancelled her cake and made an excuse to leave, awkward as anything around him now that they were back in each others lives. The women sitting by the fire with her were far more preferable to her right now. She supposed this was when they were supposed to make small talk, or just chat about their day or whatever, but Geralina didn't have the foggiest what to say right then. She had expected to be sitting alone for a while until her shift ended, not chatting up a storm with two other people. Then again, two other people were better than one, they could talk to each other while she took a back seat if necessary. She didn't really want to seem antisocial, though, she had made a promise to Paris after she had died that she would try and be more confident and make more of an effort to force herself out of her comfort zone, to take on a bit of that Paris get up and go. It wasn't going spectacularly so far, but she figured it was a work in progress and she'd get there eventually. She didn't think this was the moment to force conversation, however, so she focused on taking another bite of her cake and enjoying that while she waited for one of the other women to lead the conversation. _______________________ tag: @lenore and @carmen notes: Outfit (No worries, lovely! <3) template by izzy[googlefont="Lovers Quarrel"]

Taking a seat near Geralina was lovely. It was like unscheduled girlfriend time, hanging out with your girlfriends by accident. Geralina had only been at the castle for one whole school year and was well in to her second now but it had been lovely so far getting to know her. There had been quite a few changes in the recent years, with such dark times looming outside of the castle it seemed it was taking its toll inside of the castle too, taking its staff, students and loved ones of everyone. The Death Eaters seemed to be showing no mercy, not even to the children and that was what scared Lenore most about it all. She worried for the children, younger and younger they were being picked off, babes still at their mothers breasts just killed without a second thought. It was horrifying, truly terrible. All Lenore wanted to do in these trying times was to protect the students and other children. Someone had to be there for them. The Ministry was obviously not having much luck in stopping the Death Eaters and Lenore had to admit, when the change in government had occurred she had rather hoped for some quick changes but that was obviously not going to happen overnight, it needed more time.
Lenore placed the tray of chocolates down on the sofa between herself and Geralina, finishing off the one she'd popped in her mouth a little while ago. "These house elves know all the best recipes." She said, "My grandma was an uh-mazing cook," She said, "But it doesn't even begin to compare to what these house elves can make, you know?" Lenore loved her grandmother's cooking, she was a whizz in the kitchen and Lenore herself wasn't so bad, she figured she got her skills from watching her grandmother dart about here and there like some kind of professional, but Lenore couldn't remember her grandmother ever making chocolate, let alone chocolate this good, but then again Lenore thought just about any chocolate in front of her at the time was the best chocolate she'd ever tasted so perhaps she wasn't really a good judge of what was the best in the way of anything chocolatey and scrummy! "If you ever meet my gram-gram, don't tell her I said that." She said, wide-eyed at Geralina before she laughed just a little. Okay, so there chances of her grandma meeting Geralina were slim but she didn't want to risk it any way! Her dear old gram-gram would be most upset and probably even glare slightly in Lenore's direction.

It had been a pleasant turn of events than what she was expecting when she headed towards the kitchens. It was suppose to be a quick pop in to whip up a pot of coffee and take it back to her wing of the castle to finish off later. She could have asked the house elves to send it up, but she felt like she was more than capable of doing the simple task herself. She needed the walk to clear her mind anyways. Now that she has crossed paths with the others, it gave her an excuse to take time to relax even if for a few moments. Coffee, company, and cake. The three essential C’s.
She took her seat, flashing a bright smile to Geralina as she got comfortable. They have only chatted a few times in passing but they have yet to really get to know each other. The same with Lenore, the woman was doll in every way but still doesn’t know much about her. The thought troubled her, these women were the first to welcome her here and she knows very little about them. “That cake looks too good…” Her southern accent coming through as she eyed the slice already cut on the plate. She leaned forward in her seat, picking up a spoon and scooping up a piece to bring up to her lips. She had made sure to get some of the thick icing that made the cake shine in appeal. The moment it hit her tongue, her eyes fluttered closed as a small moan vibrated in the base of her throat.
"These house elves know all the best recipes.""My grandma was an uh-mazing cook, but it doesn't even begin to compare to what these house elves can make, you know?"
While she was still working on the piece of cake, she leaned forward to look pass Geralina to give a nod to Lenore. She swallowed her food before speaking, not wanting to be rude “I swear, I have gained weight since I have gotten here” she threw out, ”they make their food just so darn good and I cant resist.” she ended it with a small chuckle.
She watched as the two joked about Lenore’s gram gram, a smile pulling at the corner of her lips as her hand brought her mug to her lips. Blowing at the steam, she took a cautious sip to avoid getting burn. The warmth of the fire brushed over her body as the sip of her coffee warmed her from the inside and woke her up.

Before the Night Begins Lenore happily jumped in to talking about her grandmother's cooking and how it just didn't compare to house elf cooking. Was anything really better than your grandma's cooking? Geralina didn't think so. She remebered her own nan making the most amazing roast dinners, and her mum's were second best, but she often wondered as she got older if her own kids would say their nan did the best and Geralina's was second. It was probably a pattern that every family followed. Unless you were Dorcas. She couldnt imagine her having grandchildren bragging about her cooking, she could barely make toast without burning the kitchen down. Snapping herself out of her thoughts, she grinned around a mouthful of chocolate cake. "Oh, me and your gram-gram have tea every Tuesday," she said sweetly. "I can't promise I won't slip up." She was joking, of course, though she honestly would have tea on Tuesday's with Lenore's grandmother if she was asked. Everybody knew that saying no wasn't her strong point. Saying no to an old lady was an even harder task. Carmen helped herself to some cake and had the same reaction Geralina had when she'd first tasted it. "Isn't it just heaven," she smiled, feeling more and more comfortable as the other women settled into conversation. Carmen was new to the castle, and it was very enjoyable - and quite fancy - hearing her delightful American accent whenever she spoke. Geralina often forgot that Carmen was from America until the doe eyed lady opened her mouth, then a silly grin of admiration usually crept on to Geralina's pale face. "What was the food like at Ilvermorny?" she asked, overly curious about the American wizarding school. She'd have loved to be able to go there, even just for a short visit, and any of the other magical schools for that matter, just to see what they were like. It was pretty cool having someone who had been there around to ask. Not that she had the confidence to be that nosy most of the time, but since she saw an opening, she might as well jump on it. She didn't know much about the American school, only bits and pieces from books that she'd read over the years, but she imagined their house elves would be just as talented in the culinary department as the British ones. _______________________ tag: @lenore and @carmen notes: Outfit <3 template by izzy[googlefont="Lovers Quarrel"]
