PERSONALITY Boggart: A boggart for Leif would take the form of his pets, dead, murdered by cruel people. He couldn't imagine anything worse than something bad happening to innocent animals. Mirror of Erised: He would see himself surrounded by family, his parents, his siblings, a wife and children of his own, living the kind of wildly successful life as his father, animals everywhere, smiles and laughter, adventure. Just perfect. Patronus: Elephant - Leif's happiest memory is the day his dad took him to rescue a unicorn that was being held captive by horrible wizards who intended to take it's horn. Leif was thirteen and had some knowledge of defensive spells enough to not be in too much danger at his father's side, and Jasper was with them. They had had to sneak in in the dead of night, and it had been quite the mission - with help from a few of his dad's other animals - but they had freed the unicorn and took it home to treat any wounds it had. It was such an exhilarating feeling, Leif was buzzing for the whole summer holidays, and he got to pet an actual unicorn - a real one! - when they released it into the wild a week later. Leif is a sensitive soul. Kind, loving, overly caring, he hates to see people suffer, and he feels everything very deeply. He was a crier as a young child if he had to be separated from his family for any reason - he was super clingy with his parents and siblings - and is still a crier in secret these days. He will shed a tear in public if the occasion really calls for it, but he's more socially aware of keeping things like that private now. He's generous, and will give anything and everything to those he cares about and strangers, too, if he thinks they are in need. He's not a pushover, and he will stand up for himself if he feels like his kindness is being taken for granted. He's a good judge of character and can usually tell ifsomeone is swinging the lead or trying to pull the wool over his eyes. Just as much as he will be caring, he will tell you to get lost if you cross the line. He's good at standing up for his friends, though he's not in your face about it, and will just have a quiet word, make a few hints of threats, and if it really comes to the crunch, throw a good hex, but only in retaliation. He's not one to start fights, but he will finish them. He's a handsome guy (kind of vain), and he's popular with the ladies thanks to being smart and easy-going. He's very easy to get along with, and is open to giving all sorts of people a fair chance, so he has dated Pureblood and Muggleborn girls alike over the years, and is a pretty amazing boyfriend. He's definitely the commitment type, and likes the idea of settling down and getting married and all of that warm and fuzzy stuff. He can be a little bit possessive with girlfriends, and has a jealous streak that he tries his best to hide, but if he thinks a girl is looking at another guy, he will drop her in a heartbeat and give her the cold shoulder. If another guy is looking at his girl, well, those subtle threats will be made and his girl will be made an extra fuss over to make sure she doesn't get any ideas of jumping ship. Jealousy issues aside, though, he's attentive, loving, funny, and romantic, liking to spoil whatever girl he's dating with romance and flowers and all of the trimmings. Leif has the ability to find the positives in life, even when it seems everything is falling apart. He gets this from his dad, who has always had an incredible kindness and warmth about him, and taught Leif his life philosophy - "Worrying is pointless because it means you suffer twice." Leif tries to keep that with him in his everyday life, and looks for the fun, looks for the light, looks for things to smile about, and if there isn't anything sometimes, make your own happiness. He loves a good adventure, and revels in a challenge, he likes to learn and at the same time, to help others learn, he knows the value of hard work. He is a bit animal mad, but he doesn't shove it down people's throats, and he lacks the eccentricity of his father, that being replaced with a more laid back nature in Leif. He's a loyal friend and a very family oriented guy, who needs stability and kindness in his life to thrive. In their mid forties when they decided to finally start a family, Newt and Tina Scamander had lived a full and adventurous life since they met in their twenties. Newt was a daring and kind magizoologist, penning his own novels and raising all manner of magical creatures as though they were his children, and Tina was an Auror, brave and smart and dedicated to her work. They were happy with their lives for two whole decades before they realised that they hadn't actually bothered to have a family of their own yet, so busy were they having fun. After some serious consideration, they decided that they might like a brood of their own, and so in their forties, they began working on their newest adventure. Baby Jasper arrived just over a year later, and was followed by little Flora when he was four years old. Adoring being parents and raising their children to be hard-working and caring, they didn't stop at two, and Sky and Artemis completed their brood when the couple where in their mid fifties. Luckily for wizarding folk having children so late in life wasn't such an unusual thing, with magic and potions to help out, and a much longer lifespan than Muggles. They were satisfied with four children, and raised them to adore animals as much as their eccentric father did, the children growing up on a large farm in England and traveling to New York often to visit their Aunt Queenie. They had a a fun-filled childhood, and Newt and Tina were loving having little people to teach and take on adventures with them. It came as a complete surprise when, at the ripe old age of 60, Tina fell pregnant again. Shocked, Newt couldn't deny he was pleased despite them thinking their family complete, and so Tina birthed another son, little Leif. He was a whole sixteen years younger than his oldest brother, and so a little bit out of the loop of the older children, but Leif was never short of someone to care for him, someone to cuddle him, someone to help him stand when he fell over, someone to hold his hand on adventures. His family were everything to him, and he adored having so many amazing, loving siblings to look up to. Lief was a pleasant boy, inheriting his parents intelligence and gentleness, and an ability to laugh and find the positives in any situation. He had a natural affinity for animals and loved nothing more than getting outside and mucking in with feeding the animals, and once he was old enough, Leif was allowed to go with his dad on rescue missions to save creatures who were being mistreated or caged up. He was actually sad when it came time to go to Hogwarts, like his siblings had before him. Artemis was in her final year of school, and he felt like he was going to be horribly lonely not being at home with his family. He cried for most of the train journey, and spent the night in the Hufflepuff common room cuddling with Artemis, who assured him that school was fun, and she would be there to help him get settled, so he wasn't alone. It helped that they were in the same house, and she could keep a closer eye on Leif and make sure he was coping alright. He sent an owl home every single day, having his own owl, Lotus, which his dad had given him at the end of August to try and comfort his desperately clingy son. That first year passed more quickly than Leif had expected, and he found at the end of it that he had made friends, he was doing well in lessons, and he had stopped feeling so awfully sad and missing his family so much after about six months. He was still overly eager to get home for the summer holidays, and was inseparable with his dad for the whole six weeks. His mother gifted him a kitten to return to school with, feeling sick at the thought that her son would be truly alone at school for his second year. He cried again for the first two months of his second year, not having Artemis there to help him feel at home, but his friends soon rallied around him and lifted Leif's spirits. Once he had settled in properly with being the only Scamander at Hogwarts, he found that he he enjoyed it, and especially Care of Magical Creatures, and Herbology, which was just like being back at home. He excelled in the two lessons in particular, though did well in others, too, becoming somewhat of a teacher's pet in some lessons thanks to his kind nature and willingness to learn. This resulted in his becoming a prefect later on, and then eventually Head boy. He has a pet Bowtruckle to add to his brood this year, and is planning on working with animals when he graduates.
