PERSONALITY Boggart: The moon. Simple, yet terrifying for personal reasons. Mirror of Erised: Himself standing under a full moon, human. Patronus: Wolf - Remus purposely uses a non-corporeal patronus, because he hates its form. It comes out as a mist, fuelled by his memories with the Marauders at school, his happiest days to date. Remus is a gentle soul. Intelligent and kind, and very loving, he has a softness about him that makes people like him, though he often thinks that he's not very likeable. He is hard on himself inwardly. You would never guess it, but he judges himself harshly, never feels good enough, and lives with a lot of paranoia and anxiety. He comes across as calm and serene, a deep thinker, but in complete control of himself. That couldn't be further from the truth, and he worries constantly that people are going to guess that he's a mess inside. Sensible and on the quieter side, he balances his louder friends out perfectly, and is the voice of reason in his group of friends. Not the most outgoing person, Remus struggles to mix with strangers. He gets nervous, as though his werewolf gene makes him glow neon green so that everyone knows his secret. He doesn't think himself a very smooth talker, though he comes across as quite socially competent. It's completely forced, but he gets an O for effort. He prefers to be by himself, or just in the company of one or two people, and would spend all of his time reading if he could, holed up in his tiny apartment where he's safe and surrounded by all things familiar and comforting to him. Remus doesn't really do romance. Well, he does in his head. He has all sorts of fanciful, exquisitely beautiful fantasies that he lives out in regular daydreams, but reality is very different. Who is going to love a werewolf, honestly? He can't see why anyone would want to love him and be with him once they knew what he was, and he doesn't want the kind of relationship where huge secrets are kept. He doesn't believe he'll ever be able to have that kind of trust and honesty with anyone, so he sticks to his dreams, and his books, and resigns himself to being lonely for the rest of his life. HISTORY Mother: Hope Lupin nee Howell, 37, muggle Father: Lyall Lupin, 41, halfblood Siblings: None Partners: None Others: James Henry Potter Sirius Lee Black Peter Augustus Pettigrew Lily Joanne Potter Remus was the only child of Lyall and Hope Lupin. His father was a wizard, and a very accomplished one at that, and his mother a completely enchanted muggle. His parents were so in love, and so well matched, that Remus honestly couldn't have been a happier, more content toddler. He showed early signs of magic, and was absolutely golden, until the day everything fell apart. When Remus was four years old, his father had a run in at the Ministry with Fenrir Greyback, and upon making some particularly unforgivable remarks about werewolves, Lyall Lupin was marked for revenge. The most horrifying revenge, which took place not long before Remus turned five. Greyback broke into the Lupin family home and attacked young Remus in his bed, his father managing to fight the werewolf off before he could kill Remus. It wasn't enough, though. The damage was already done. Remus was now a werewolf, a "soulless, evil, deserving nothing but death" according to his father. Everything changed. Remus became a wolf every full moon, it was agony, and for such a young boy it was traumatic in every way, physically, mentally, emotionally. Between full moons, he was his loving, sweet natured self, but the dread, oh, the dread was always there. Knowing what was coming and anticipating it, never being able to stop thinking about it. It was torture, and paired with the family having to move around the country regularly to keep anyone from finding out about the scary wolf boy, it ruined his childhood. He couldn't have friends, for fear they'd find out his secret, and grew up very lonely and isolated, aside from his parents, who he loved unconditionally. They did everything they could for him, absolutely everything, and he appreciated it more than they would ever know. But it would never be enough. Nothing could ever fix him, his life was ruled by the wolf in him, and no matter how many kind words they had for him, nothing took the edge off. Nothing got rid of the fear. His father home-schooled him as best he could, which wasn't ideal, but it was the only option, really. Or so they thought. It wasn't until Albus Dumbledore knocked on their door that they paused to consider that Remus might actually be able to attend Hogwarts and have some semblance of a normal life there. Remus was apprehensive, scared, worried about what might happen once he was away from his parents, once he was with a castle full of strangers, hiding a huge secret, and not feeling himself once a month. Dumbledore had played Gobstones with him as they talked, and after quite a bit of explaining and encouraging, it was agreed that he would attend the magical school, and that really, everything would be okay. Remus found himself trusting the man, for reasons he couldn't put his finger on. Dumbledore made him feel calmer, more confident. Like everything would be okay. His fear began to give way to something he hadn't felt in a long time: Excitement. Once at Hogwarts, he was sorted into Gryffindor house, where he made particularly good friends with three other boys in his house. They were louder than him, all except Peter, and he fitted in quite nicely as the voice of reason, the calm in the centre of the storm, the kindness to their brashness. They seemed to like him, anyway. The boys became inseparable, and Remus found that the closer he got to them, the fear of losing them began to creep in. What if they suddenly stopped liking him as much? What if they said he was to quiet? Boring? They were so fun and confident, and even when they were naughty, Remus couldn't bring himself to speak up when they took things too far. He just couldn't rink them cutting him out. He finally had friends. They eventually became curious about his monthly disappearances, and guessed that he was a werewolf in their second year. Remus was mortified, and felt awful for lying to them for so long on top of that. He was quite surprised when they didn't cut him out for being a freak, and instead vowed to all become Animagi so that he wouldn't be so alone during his changes. Real friends. He had real friends. Ones that would go to such extreme lengths for him. Remus had never felt so much a part of something before, and it lifted him up to no end. All through school, he had a family, people who knew the truth about him and weren't scared or repulsed. He was happy, as much as he could be, but the full moon always hangs over him. Since graduating from school, Remus found that he was unemployable due to his condition. Who would hire him and give him a week off once a month? Nobody, that's who. Luckily for him, James promised to help him out with money, and though it kills him to accept it, Remus knows that it's really his only option, and it's done out of love. He devotes his attentions to the Order of the Phoenix full time, doing everything he can to help in the war against He Who Must Not Be Named.
