Salem thought of herself as fortunate. Very fortunate in fact. Her parents were helping to support her, helping to support her dream, a dream that she hadn't yet found but was looking for. She'd had a few different career paths following her Hogwarts graduation but none of them had been what she'd wanted. She'd tried her hardest to find something suitable, something she'd feel she'd love, but there wasn't anything that didn't bring the feeling of oppression to her heart. Salem knew that most people didn't have a choice, they had to find a job and they had very few options in leaving or bouncing around like she had done. She had her own home she lived in, she had her cat, Sneezels, and she was content with her life. Mostly. She still had to get a job and her newest idea was opening a bookstore. The idea had come from her cousin Neve and the idea had stuck with Salem. She dreamt of it, she had drawn it, she was obsessed with the whole idea of opening a book shop. She had been to four different shops so far today but none of them had really been right. She'd visited a few last week and there was one that jumped out although it was a bit on the small side for what she wanted, but it did have a lovely space out the back that she thought would be wonderful in the summertime.
Standing out the front of an empty store, its lights off and a 'Closed' notice across the front, Salem sighed. She felt like this was the one, this was the shop for her and her vision. She didn't have to fit in all the books she wanted to fit in, she would have a storage room and in there she could hold all sorts of things with all kinds of different spells. Her parents encouraged her to go for it, they wanted her to follow her dreams, but was this really the right dream to be following? Salem hoped so because the more time she spent out the front of the shop at the end of Mystic Alley, the more she felt like she belonged. It was like her life was calling out to her to get started, to take the leap and immerse herself in the world of owning a bookshop and to have fun with it. It really did seem like such the perfect job and it was certainly calling out to her as she looked up to the very top of the building.

Regret is such a pointless emotion
Sunset in Godric’s Hollow was unlike any place else Silas had visited. With his flare for style and sparkle, most would assume the quaint little village was too slow for the vampire’s tastes but in actuality it reminded him of his human childhood and moreover, it reminded him of his sister. Ellara’s tree, along with her now decayed body, was in southern England on the family’s property – Silas still owned the land, but the house had long since fallen into disrepair with no one in the country to tend to it. That would have to change now that he was returned to Britain. How long he planned to stay in the tiny island country was still undetermined but while he was here there was no question where he would reside.
His sister, in her short four years of life, had adored days out with their parents when they could escape the humdrum of their peasant-like life and have a little adventure. Ellara’s favorite adventures often involved biscuits at a bakery that had long since closed its doors, and a few rounds of slides and swings at the local muggle park that had been torn down and rebuilt a number of times since. Silas strolled past the park with a whimsical look in his eye, remembering his sister’s laugh and the squeal she would make as she followed her big brother’s lead in leaping from the moving swing as it was high in the air. It was hard not to be sentimental about his youth, though the concept was relative now that he held the potential to outlive even his dearest friends. Albus had looked shockingly ancient to the vampire’s astute eyes, but wizards aged more rapidly than his kind. It was expected. It was a cold reminder of the man’s frailty and his purpose in returning to England.
The playground faded into a field which was soon dotted with headstones. The village cemetery. How very cliché of Silas to be wandering among the dead when he himself was no longer alive, though in death he had learned how to truly live. He carried on, heading into the center of the village where the businesses were turning on their lights and illuminating their signs to signal they were open to anyone not quite ready to turn in for the evening. It was early for the vampire, but muggles and wizards were finishing their days with a late tea at The Heart and Skull or a perhaps a quick treat sweet before bed for the little ones. A witch standing in front of an obviously dark shop caught Silas’ eye. “Mourning the loss of a favored shop or plotting the arrival of a new one?”

Salem had so many plans for her shop but all that she envisioned was still in her mind’s eye. There was nothing down on paper, not even a crude sketch, but she felt as though she didn’t need a sketch when it came to this place. There was no need to figure out how things would fit because it just seemed perfect, and with a little more space than she’d expected. It was clean and it was ready to go. It had been available for a fortnight or so, so Salem knew she had to be quick because a place like this wasn’t going to last long at all. Salme knew others had taken a look around the shop but would anyone actually be interested in renting the space? Salem could only presume that yes, they would be, she couldn’t be the only one, so what was she playing at? She had to get a move on. Maybe. Perhaps there might be another space? Or perhaps she was just holding out in the hopes that her dream would be snatched from her because then at least that way she couldn’t fail. Failure was great, but the chances of failing were almost crippling.
A voice pulled Salem from her doubts and she realised she’d not been paying attention to her surroundings. She looked at the gentleman that spoke to her and she took a step to the side, as though creating a space for him to join her, even though she’d never met the man before. “Oh, uh, I’m not sure yet.” She said, looking back to the building. “I thought, maybe, of putting in a bookstore.” She folded her left arm across her body and placed her right elbow in the middle of her arm, lifting her hand to her mouth and absentmindedly pinching her bottom lip gently, deep in thought about the potential for a store.
