It was unusual for Rodolphus to apologise but Dorcas didn't have the energy to force the reason for the apology out of him tonight. She'd beat it out of him tomorrow if she remembered when she woke but for now she was drifting off despite the pain. She was used to falling asleep in pain and she'd suffered more than this at Rodolphus' hands but at least back then she'd been able to remember everything. Tonight she had a few blank moments. Perhaps more than a few, she wasn't sure, but she could remember right before going unconscious so that was something. Perhaps he was just apologising for that which, to Dorcas, seemed a little ridiculous. Perhaps he'd panicked, though she couldn't see that being a reality, he was a death eater, he was regularly killing people, if he'd killed her then she was pretty sure he'd be down about no more screwing around but he'd eventually find someone else to fuck around with and she'd be in whatever afterlife awaited her. She'd never given the afterlife much thought. They had ghosts so surely there was something beyond that, or perhaps not, either way Dorcas didn't really fancy finding out all too soon and she didn't much feel like thinking about the inevitable right now, she was only able to really focus on one thing at a time so she'd really rather focus on Rodolphus' arm around her.
Just as she felt her body relaxing against his, Rodolphus made a sound. Her eyes opened as he mocked her a little and she smiled to herself, much more comfortable with a Rodolphus ready to mock her for something that was entirely his fault rather than admitting he was wrong or sorry about something she couldn't even remember. She felt his arm leave her body, creating a cool draft over her. She shuddered lightly and buried herself more into the blanket with a single shuffle that caused her to ache. She didn't usually take pain tonics unless she was in complete agony after what they'd gotten up to and she usually only took something she'd brewed herself, but she had no idea if she had anything available so she'd take whatever he gave her, recalling the first time he'd ever left her something on her pillow in her dorm, naturally shed thrown it against the wall and just gone to sleep in pain, waking up worse than she'd gone to sleep the following day and having missed a few lessons but it had been fun and she'd taken potions he'd left her before, though she'd never recalled him ever having brought something with him, had he intended on hurting her more tonight but got carried away leaving her unconscious? She didn't care too much, she just wanted to sleep.

The mattress dipped behind her. Dorcas kept her eyes closed, noticing every little ache and sting that passed over her body. It was strange and unusual. She'd been hurt thousands of times by this man, he had her permission to do just about anything to her body, there weren't ever any limitations between the two but clearly he'd panicked tonight and Dorcas wasn't sure just why that was. Losing a little consciousness was no big deal but then she was unconscious so who knew how long she was out for. Perhaps it was longer than she'd thought, she wasn't really sure what she was thinking or feeling in the moment beyond the physical. It was hard to sort her thoughts and even harder to understand what it was that Rodolphus was apologising for. He never apologised, at least never with the actual word 'sorry'. Rodolphus apologised with sex, sex, more sex and occasionally replacing whatever he'd broken. Dorcas wasn't even aware he had the ability to be compassionate enough for another human being to actually be apologetic for something. He sounded genuine. That was even stranger. She'd have thought that he would have been confused by such words, "For what, love?" She didn't know what he was apologising for, so far it seemed like nothing was completely out of the ordinary so why would he ever bother apologising?
It was strange. She'd fallen asleep next to Rodolphus plenty of times before. Over twelve years together just screwing around had lead to him actually staying over almost ten years ago. Actually the first time they'd fallen asleep together had been on the floor of one of his holiday homes on a private island. Dorcas could still remember it, even in her hazed state. It was beautiful. The forest that covered the island was the best part and the beach - while she hated sand - was beautiful in its own way. Waking up beside him that first time felt natural, like a normal progression and yet they'd never really moved beyond that. He'd stay over from time to time. They'd screw around. He'd leave. He'd started staying later when he did stay at hers. He'd wait until she'd left for work before locking her place up himself and having his house elves sort out whatever mess they'd left from the night, and usually mornings. Falling asleep with Rodolphus was nice usually. It was relaxing and felt right, but tonight it felt comforting too, somehow it felt safe.

Rodolphus' voice came from somewhere in the room and Dorcas was uncomfortable with being disorientated enough not to know where he was. Usually she was able to pinpoint locations with the squeak of a foot falling on a loose floorboard or the sound of rapid breathing, but her mind was clouded, it wasn't catching up with her senses. She moved her head a little in the direction of where she though Rodolphus' voice had come from. It was still night time, she could make out that much, the light in the room was artificial, not natural, but twisting her head hurt a lot, the strain on her throat was similar to the times he'd almost gone too far. She supposed this time he had gone a little too far because she'd actually lost some consciousness there for a bit. It'd be interesting to find out how long she'd been gone for because besides the pain in her neck, throat and chest, there was a sore and heavy feeling on her chest. She just put it down to him getting too excited and kneeling on her at some point while she was unconscious. Clearly that made complete sense and then she realised she hadn't answered him. She hadn't answered his question and she had no idea what he was talking about. She's already forgotten what he'd asked and so she blinked a few times, trying to clear her eyesight at least a little.
"I-" Her voice broke. She had been talking, she'd been talking to her son but it was just a dream, she wasn't dreaming now, there was no dream haze surrounding her, she was talking to Rodolphus, the real Rodolphus, not the one she'd seen in her dream. She wanted to ignore what was happening and she felt tired. Sleep felt necessary right now so she forced herself to do what she did best, ignore the pain and get on with what she needed to do, only it was harder than usual. She pushed herself and rolled on to her side, blankets rolling with her as she faced towards Rodolphus' side of the bed. Her legs did most of the work but they were at least fine, her arms were fine too but she was somehow lacking the strength she usually had and she couldn't get rid of that foggy feeling she had as she laid there, feeling as though she was a really crap combination of drunk, high and hungover. She closed her eyes, seeing the face of her little boy - that was clear as day. Perhaps she wouldn't be sleeping tonight.

Well he was good enough then! Depending on how much they had to drink for the rest of the night though, there was the possibility that Dorcas wouldn't remember if she hooked up with the guy in the toilets or not. If he didn't leave a lasting impression then it would be just as well not remembering him. If it was a decent impression then ... wait what? She was losing track of her own thoughts, he couldn't be both memorable and forgettable. Tersha would remind her of whatever embarrassment she got herself into, if Tersha could remember the night after her floaty drinks, if such floaty drinks worked and were strong enough. They needed plenty more alcohol, they needed all the alcohol. Dorcas was kind of crap at limiting herself, but Tersha was good enough to look out for her. She thought. She wasn't entirely sure. She couldn't remember a lot of nights out but she'd gotten home and Dorcas always woke up the next morning with plenty of stories from Tersha. Dorcas took a lot less to get drunk than Tersha usually but Tersha seemed a little more drunk than Dorcas, she put it down to her mum having shoved a tonne of food in to her mouth before she went out and the possibility that Tersha had a few drinks before she'd come out tonight. After dealing with her parents over Christmas Dorcas wouldn't have blamed Tersha if she'd been drunk ever since Christmas!
Sniggering a little at the interaction between Tersha and the bartender Dorcas took the cocktail that Tersha sent her way, a little of the liquid spilling out on to the bar. She took the umbrella out of the drink and clinked her glass with Tersha's grinning and taking a sip of her cocktail. "Bathroom sex!" She cheered loudly! She couldn't give a crap who was staring, unless bathroom sex guy was staring, in which case he could totally start getting his arse to the bathroom so she could have a little fun, but first she needed to get her drink on. She took a big mouthful. It was strong enough and tingled a little on her tongue. Was there champagne in this? If so she was going to be fucked a hell! Champagne was the one drink that went straight to her head. Tequila was the second only she always ended up just about naked after drinking tequila. The umbrella she had taken out of her drink she closed up and started aiming it like a dart. She flung it at a passerby then went back to her drink and Tersha as though nothing had happened, not bothering to see if her little umbrella dart had jabbed the passer by or not.

It was indeed evident. The Minister was in need of a major clean up of her department if something like that had been leaked. If it was leaked without her knowledge then she seriously needed to weigh up who she could and could not trust and find whoever had leaked the memo. If, as Dorcas had suspected, that the memo was leaked with her permission, or even if she was the one to leak it, then she was in need of a scapegoat. She needed to get on with that before it was too late. Dorcas suspected she was rather calculating so no doubt someone, or a couple of someones, would pay the price, right at a time that suited her best. No doubt she'd survive political scandal after political scandal but her luck would eventually run out, until then Dorcas wanted to know just what she thought she was playing at trying to get herself so involved in the Auror department. The fact she'd demanded Auror's for protection tonight was a bother for Dorcas too, that wasn't the purpose of an Auror, protecting the Minister was not hunting down dark wizards. She had her own personal guard and she had a hit wizards at hand - use those unqualified arses.
"You're far too chipper." She said, rolling her eyes a little. Dorian was crap at bitching. Tersha would be better, or even Geralina, she had a fun and bitchy streak when you got her in the mood but she'd probably be at Hogwarts playing Librarian until it was time to shut up and even after that she wasn't exactly the bold and social type but she had been stepping out more and more often after Paris' death. Dorcas tilted back her champagne flute and choked on the fizzy liquid as the sight of two familiar faces caught her roaming eyes. "What-" She coughed, "Is your brother doing here with little baby intern?" She coughed again, knowing little Dearborn, Tristan's little sister, was in her second year of training but to look at the little baby-face you'd think she should have been in her fourth year of Hogwarts, not off in the big wide world fighting all the bad guys! Dorcas took a sip of champagne to help although it of course did bugger all but she wanted to get drunk tonight. Not too quickly, she had a few other things to be getting on with first.

A dream swept over Dorcas. There was no knowing how it started but where she was now was a nightmare. She stood in a field, surrounded by black, watching a little boy no older than seven playing catch with a small red ball. Up and down he threw the thing and Dorcas wanted nothing to do with the situation, but her dream wouldn't allow. She moved apprehensively towards the young boy. A thick mop of dark brown hair upon his head. She knew what he would look like before she even saw him, she knew in her gut just who exactly this was and that feeling of apprehension only grew stronger. He wasn't real, at least not like this. He wasn't here, it wasn't possible. Dorcas felt a little sick, she felt as though her heart was pounding hard, like there was a heavy pressure baring down on her chest. The boy turned, unaware of her presence, just tossing the ball up and down. Dorcas watched him, an aching taking over. Physical or emotional she wasn't sure but it was uncomfortable.
It felt like forever just watching this boy throw the red ball up into the air and catching it again. He had her nose and her cheeks, his chin resembled hers at that age too. His eyes were different, they were most definitely Rodolphus'. Deep and brown. He had his heavy brow too but her hair colouring. There was no denying that she was looking at her son. Their son. He was the child she never had. He would have been the first for both of them but she'd not been ready. She tried to rationalise it within her mind within her own dream. She'd done it before a thousand times. She was too young, it was right at the start of her career, she could never be a mother, she could never bring a child into the world as it was, there was no way she could have a married mans child, especially Rodolphus' child. Yet looking at him there was some kind of longing, somehow there was the doubt that she'd done something wrong. She pushed that feeling aside often enough but here was a place she could only feel, she couldn't rationalise her feelings away. Before she even realised it everything just ended and her dream was gone.
Dorcas was unaware of anytime passing. She was stood back in the field again, the little boy directly in front of her staring up. There was a silence between them as they just looked. The field was silent, there was a breeze blowing the tall grass but no sound. The sky was black but everything was bright enough as though the sun were shinning on a warm summers day. There was no other scenery and no other people. Just her and him, staring at one another. The child stepped forward, looking at her hand and taking hold of it. Dorcas watched him moving, unsure of what was happening. He looked up at her again, those familiar eyes piercing through to her soul, "Why don't you love me, mummy?" Dorcas' heart sunk deeper than it ever had before, "Why don't you want me?" His grip on her hand got tighter and she pulled away, her hand slipping out of his hold as she took a step back. He held a toy dragon under his arm that hadn't been there before and she backed away some more, the boy walking towards her. She backed away more and felt herself walk in to someone, a figure she knew before she even turned around.
Looking up she saw those brown eyes the boy had on the man they belonged to. Rodolphus was looking down at her and she backed away from him just a couple of steps, stopping before she knocked in to the boy. She turned to look at the boy, he wasn't her son, she hadn't had a child. She had only been pregnant for a few weeks, it wasn't even a human. This was just a nightmare, this was just her mind screwing with her and as she realised that she began to wake. "I didn't want to be a mum. You should never have existed." She told the boy as he faded away, leaving a familiar yet blurry sight above her. Her voice hoarse and unfamiliar as though it wasn't her at all croaking through those words. Something had gone wrong and her birth control hadn't worked. It had resulted in an unwanted pregnancy and she'd terminated it without a second thought. It was the right decision to have made. She'd confided this in all of three people and her parents and Rodolphus were not among them. She had no idea what his reaction would have been to news that she was pregnant, he'd probably have been furious at the time and demanded she be rid of it anyway so it was just easier to take care of everything herself and just leave him out of it. There was no reason for him to know.
The boy had gone completely now and instead she was looking at the ceiling in her room, bleary eyes unable to focus on anything. Memories started to flood her, she'd been gripping at Rodolphus' arm, trying to hit him away. She remembered not being able to breath and that was it. She'd gone. She had no idea what had happened but she assumed it wasn't great. Her throat was sore and her head was pounding. She knew he'd taken things too far but how long had she been out of it? Surely it wasn't more than a few seconds, though he'd seen to it she had a top on, she noticed, though she couldn't think why he would do that. It didn't make sense. He'd seen her naked thousands of times, was he suddenly embarrassed because she'd lost a little consciousness? She was breathing, a lot sore, but definitely breathing, so what was the big deal?

Rodolphus knew his way over her body, her turn ons and just how much force to use. He was absolutely rampant and pleasure accompanied the pain that he just couldn't hold back on dishing out, and nor did she want him to. Things hadn't always been this forceful between the two of them. Sure it had never been what one could call gentle but looking back on the first time, it was a damn sight more tame than what they did with one another now. Nights like this weren't often, nights like this could leave her body broken in a literal sense. Usually tears built up in her eyes at his force, they fell regardless of what she felt in the moment. It was when she needed to cry that she built him up like this on purpose. She egged him on, challenged him and enjoyed winding him up. Branding him had been particularly fun but it had been a while and the mark she'd left him with was no way near as visible as she'd have liked, he was in need of a new mark to remember her by but not tonight, tonight she didn't need to cry but she did, it was her body's natural reaction as he twisted her into positions that benefited them both. The bed was rarely needed when they were together and Dorcas rarely even thought of it as an option when she was with Rodolphus. There were floors and tables, walls and sofas. Hell they weren't just restricted to being inside either. There'd been fields in the middle of the night, alleys whenever wherever the hell they were. They weren't limited in their choices or experiences and while they'd tried a hell of a lot of locations, there were still a lot more to experience.
Tighter and tighter Rodolphus' grip got, his fingers wrapped around her neck as that all too familiar feeling of air and blood restriction started to build. There came a point when Dorcas realised she'd not taken a breath in a while. Things were starting to hurt. Her head felt as though it had a pressure building up inside, as though it was going to explode. For once genuine panic took hold of Dorcas and her hands wrapped around his wrist, trying to push him off though she had no luck, he wasn't focused enough, he wasn't paying attention to what she was going through as his grip got even tighter. Her eyes had streamed, the sides of her face damp from her tears, her body attempted to twist and thrash fervently against the giant on top of her but nothing was working to get his attention, she was restricted, there was no getting out from under him and there was no getting his notice this way. Dorcas reached her right hand up to smack him in the face which she could not reach, while her left pulled pointlessly at his right arm. The pain wasn't erotic, it was terrifying, Dorcas wasn't even one to admit to being scared and she wasn't going to admit it to herself right now because there would be a way out of this, instead she attempted to loosen Rodolphus' grip by hitting at him and digging her nails in to his hand but he didn't notice and before she knew it everything was black.

Dorcas had Ariel laying in the middle of the queen sized bed on her belly. It was probably about time to head downstairs and interact with others and Dorcas supposed it wouldn't be so bad. She'd have Ariel to keep her company for a while and provided she didn't poop, she'd keep hold of the girl for as long as possible. As soon as she pooped Ariel would be handed off to someone more experienced in handling the rear end of an infant, Dorcas disliked the smell and, quit frankly, the sight. She'd seen some grizzly situations in her life time, she'd seen decapitations, impalements, disembowelments but nothing compared to the site and smell of what that small kid could push out of her arse. Yet another reason Dorcas would never have kids, they were just straight up disgusting, and as she got older she was only going to get in to more messes. Hell, when she was mobile she was going to be shitting herself, pissing herself and throwing food and drink everywhere. It would basically be dealing with Tersha on her 21st birthday every day. Dorcas knew for certain she couldn't handle that kind of crazy no matter how cute the kid.
She slipped her heels on and tickled Ariel's back as she took an interest in what Dorcas was doing, pushing her upper body and twisting to the point that she rolled over on the soft mattress. For a second she looked stunned but it didn't last long, the little warrior found her feet and tried grabbing at them, her chunky little thighs not holding her back in the slightest. She was precious and Dorcas knew she'd do just about anything for the little chubster that was attempting to gnaw on her foot. "Yeah, none of that," she said to the child that was paying her absolutely sod all attention, "Daddy-Dor won't be happy if you cough up some kind of cotton ball." She took hold of Ariel and stood up, ready to face whoever was downstairs. She was fairly certain Geralina wasn't there yet or her mum would have called up and apart from that Dorcas wasn't sure there was going to be anyone else joining them, apart from Dorian's brother or whatever he was, she supposed Ariel's uncle technically, but how much did the guy even know about Dorian or Ariel? Dorcas was a bit sceptical of the bloke. None of them had ever met him until after River had died, were they sure they had the right bloke?
Dorcas left her bedroom with Ariel, leaving the door slightly ajar behind her, not bothering to close it because she just simply wasn't in the habit of it any more. When she'd lived with her parents she'd even gone so far as to learn a few locking charms to keep unwanted people out, looking back now she knew they were simple little charms that could be unlocked with a simple alohamora or some other kind of flimsy unlocking spell. The spells on her home these days would take a hell of a lot more to get through than a little wave of a wand. "When you're old enough to eat you'll be able to appreciate poppy-Dré's roasts, until then I'm sure daddy-Dor's got a bottle for you and some toys to scrunch." She told Ariel as they walked the hallway and stairs, Ariel jamming her fist into her mouth like it was the most delicious thing on the planet. A roast would taste a damn sight better than human flesh ... probably. "Come on," She said, hearing a scuttling heading off in the direction of the kitchen as she hoisted Ariel up a little more, figuring her mother had been listening out for her and run off to the kitchen before Dorcas could catch her in the act. Dorcas had no clue why her mother was listening out for her, perhaps she worried she was going to drop Ariel or something, but Dorcas felt she was at least moderately capable of looking after the little stinker.
Taking the last step Dorcas looked towards the kitchen, she could see to the dining area and half expected to see her mums head pop out from around the corner but it didn't, Em was keeping to herself. Dorcas listened as she walked to the front room, hearing Dorian talk to someone. As she entered the room she took in the sight of the two men, their body language and the tone of Dorian's words as he finished talking. Her eyes drifted over the stranger she'd yet to meet and her mother's voice sounded in her mind, reminding her to be polite. She smiled, putting on that sweet, trusting smile she'd become an expert in, of course those that knew her knew she never smiled like that unless she was putting on a show for whatever reason, but this was a reason to put in a show, "Hi, Merry Christmas," She said, then turned her head to Ariel, "Wanna coo a little 'Merry Christmas'?" She asked, knowing full well that Ariel was far more interested in her fist than anything else but her big blue eyes were definitely looking in Julians direction, whether it was because of him or the shiny decorations that happened to be behind him Dorcas didn't know, nor did she really care much at the moment.

She had not been expecting him tonight. Usually Rodolphus made himself known before now but that devilish glint in his eye, they way he looked her over gave her such a bad feeling and it was only ever a turn on these days. She had no idea what menace he'd been up to and for now, she didn't care. After they were both exhausted she'd find the energy to sneak out of her own home for a short while, leaving him on his pillow, probably spread out over the majority of her bed, barely covered while snoring loudly. Where would she be sneaking to? Just the Ministry. Whenever he was like this it was usually a sign that someone was dead, he didn't come to her with this much built up sexual aggression any other time. Pure anger came from what she could only deduce were arguments with his wife, the hunger that accompanied aggression was always from his kills. He was so readable he should have been embarrassed, thankfully she was not so easily read, by anyone, and she liked it that way. She had far too many secrets she needed to keep hidden, especially from Rodolphus who really didn't know her in the slightest.
As Rodolphus moved forward Dorcas abandoned her bed though not at such a speed as Rodolphus was displaying. She met him at the corner of the bed that had been closest to her and if he hadn't of taken hold of her she could have been knocked over as his body pressed against hers. She didn't care, it wouldn't have been the first time and he would only have joined her on the floor, covering her completely with his broad frame but instead he had hold of her, tilting her head back, causing her to groan as she felt his teeth over her neck. He moved on, tearing her top apart while her hands held on to his shoulders to stop her from falling at his forcefulness. Everything was fast, his teeth moved from her breast to her lip as he undressed himself as fast as humanly possible while taking what he wanted and Dorcas would only encourage him, moaning and pulling on his shoulders as a combination of keeping herself upright - for now - and encouraging more of this animalistic behaviour. Life was usually pretty boring. He job sounded more interesting than it actually was. hunting and tracking people involved a lot of mind play before anything physical and fun could happen, and once an arrest was made there was more paperwork to handle than should have been legal, but Rodolphus made it all go away, he was able to make her forget about absolutely everything but pleasure when he strode into her room.

Usually a ball sort of thing, or gala whatever, was not Dorcas' scene. Tersha yes, her parents, from time to time, but her? No bloody way. It involved dresses and being fancy and whatever else you had to do to schmooze amongst the sleazy that all harboured their own ulterior motives. These people were not her people, these people were mixed but ultimately there would be an over whelming presence of the elite arseholes that wanted to support Minister Galanis in her career, paying her off and using her like a puppet to formally spew the words they forced into her. Forced was probably too strong of a term, she accepted money for it, most politicians were easily bought, some were a little more difficult and even fewer actually had some kind of integrity. Those politicians were a rare breed and usually total dicks. Some people worked in the Ministry with the intent to raise above the ranks to take the position of Minister, or major Minister suck up. Others did jobs just for money, others did thing because they wanted, because it was always what they'd wanted. Dorcas fell in to the always wanted to group. Or at least since she was twelve. She had no intentions of getting promotions, running the Auror department or ever becoming Minister for Magic, that would be bloody insane and she knew she'd balls the job up right royally, but she was a good Auror and she would stick to that.
Convincing Dorian to take her to this thing was easy, though it really didn't actually require any convincing, just good timing. Waiting around the corner of a hallway in the ministry, Dorcas had waited until Dorian was heading from the opposite end of the hall, on his way in to a meeting he couldn't afford to skip. She'd hurried a little along the hall, slowing down just as he was going in and placed her hand on his upper arm to get his attention, she then told him her mum and dad would have Ariel on the 14th and that he'd be taking her to the Minister's gala to make sure she didn't get too drunk. After that she'd just carried on her way, a little quicker than normal. It was kind of true, she'd probably need someone to make sure she didn't get too drunk but that wouldn't be until after she'd done some snooping on the current Minister for Magic, who was surprisingly opening up her home to the public. A bold and probably stupid move to make considering her position but Dorcas wasn't going to look a gift unicorn in the mouth. She was going to take advantage of the Minister's tactics to gain popularity and snoop around whatever manor she called home.
The event was somewhat of a formal one and so Dorcas had actually put a little effort in to her appearance, buying new shoes, a dress and even getting her hair and make up done, much to Tersha's surprise when Dorcas asked her for her hairdressers name. After Dorian greeted her warmly at his door the two set off and disapparated when they reached outside of the building with little talk. He complimented her or something but she wasn't after that, she knew she looked hot as hell and Dorian was just being polite. If he ever decided to really compliment her, then he could do that by pushing her up against the nearest wall and having his way with her. He was way too much of a prude, he'd never be up for that, but Dorcas didn't care who he'd dated in the past or whose brains he'd screwed out, she'd still pounce him in a heartbeat. He was hot, crazy hot, and she so wanted to see what scars he'd acquired in the line of duty and what kinks he was in to. She was willing to bet he could put that belt of his to some very creative uses and if he couldn't think of anything, she'd certainly have a suggestion or four and given a little extra time she was sure she could come up with another four.
The walk to the minister's home was kind of what Dorcas had expected, and if the minister thought she was opening herself up to the public then she could think again. This was just a chance to show off, she wasn't appealing to anyone in the general public because no one could relate to this, instead it was just painfully obvious just where their tax money was going. This was going to be a disaster and Dorcas hoped she got to witness all of it but not before she found some dirt on the minister herself, and her intentions. She was trying to come off as a minister that cared but Dorcas didn't buy in to it. She was a pain in the arse, always snooping about and Dorcas disliked it and didn't trust the woman, as she'd made painfully clear by telling her to 'bugger off' on more than one occasion. Working in the Magical Law Enforcement department meant she didn't have to answer to the minister on anything, and the woman getting herself involved with cases, wanting to know all the little details or even just the bigger ones, was enough for Dorcas to be suspicious of her motives.
The home itself was nice. It lacked the warmly touches that she liked in a home but she didn’t have to live there so she didn’t give a crap. She grew up in a house cramped and cuddly, with faces beaming at you from every wall. You were never too far from a snuggly blanket, even in summer and there was always the smell of something delicious on the air. Just about the only thing her mum could make successfully every time was brownies, beyond that her mother was rather flat when it came to cooking but her father was some kind of food genius. This place looked like it was purposefully on display and the only aromas came from the flowers on display and probably something a little artificial behind it. Nothing homely in the slightest.
Dorcas had left her cloak and cardigan at the entrance with a lovely woman that looked far too cheery to be working this dumb event and made her way with Dorian to the back garden where she listened to the speech the Minister gave, attempting to seem like one of the people while showing off this mansion of a home. Hardly going to work. Dorcas was just bored shitless listening to some pansy arsed speech but at least the home was open. "Oh for Merlin's sake," She mumbled, rolling her eyes and grabbing a flute of champagne as a server brought a tray around. She turned her body in towards Dorian, "Someone's trying to make up for that leaked memo and doing a piss-poor job at it too." What a shit-filled memo that had been too. Talk about taking drastic measures. The Minister was brutal in her attempts and in the back of Dorcas' mind, she couldn't help but wonder if that memo was leaked on purpose to enforce the idea that the minister was actually attempting to clean up their world, despite the ragingly obvious flaws in her plans. Surely there wouldn't be enough idiots in the Wizengamot to agree to the proposals and actually follow through with any.

The day had been long and hard. Paper work wasn't exactly hard but it was mind numbingly tedious. At one point Dorcas had actually fallen asleep on her desk only to be awoken by Kit, clearing his throat rather loudly and holding out yet another file for her. She'd groaned, taking the file and banging her head back down on her desk a little harder than she'd intended as the tall, dark and sombre youngster let her to it. He least offered her a quick snog to pick up her mood but then again maybe that was a dream. Yeah, that was most definitely a dream. Kit was like a mini-Dorian, he was far too serious with his own head in his arse to be even the slightest bit fun like that. She'd most definitely been dreaming about that kind of offer. The paperwork and files, however, were not dreams.
Getting home was somewhat of a relief. She just got herself dressed for her run and burnt off a lot of pent up energy, running a couple of extra miles than her usual route and her owl keeping up the entire way, soaring overhead, gliding silently across the wind beneath the clear sky. After her run she followed her usual routine. She showered, she ate, she checked the time to see if it had past the point that Rodolphus usually showed and then got on with more paperwork, at least the lot she did at home was a hell of a lot more straight forward than the crap she had to deal with at work.
The night dragged on a little, much like her day had, and Dorcas had finally had enough. She packed up everything she had out and made it disappear within the blink of an eye with a small little 'pop'. She followed her usual bedtime routine and expected to climb in to bed without much more thought for the day. She was pretty tired from all she'd done and she looked forward to a workless weekend. She was done with paperwork, she was done with tracking down arseholes unless she got a new lead or vital piece of information. Tomorrow she'd owl Roddy and tell him to get his arse over to hers with food, probably Chinese, and Sunday she'd spend the day at her parents, playing with Ariel and pretending like the work week wasn't about to begin again, only thoughts of her weekend were rapidly thrown out of her mind as she heard footsteps heading towards her bedroom door. There were few people that could get in to her home, she made sure of that, and there was only ever one that would visit this late. Sure enough Rodolphus stepped in as Dorcas pulled back her bedsheets and he looked about ready to tear her to shreds. He'd been up to something tonight, he'd done something horrendous and unthinkable so rather than run like hell, as her instincts told her to when his brow was deep and his eyes full of lustful hunger, even after all this time, she slowly smirked, knowing he was about to liven up the absolute shit of a day she'd had.

Dorcas settled herself against the bar, quirking her brow at Tersha, getting relaxed far too easily. "Threesome but miss uppity doesn't seem interested in the slightest." She said, rolling her eyes. What kind of a psychopath was that woman? Who the hell could pass up on such a fine and perfect human being? Honestly the woman had no sodding clue what she was missing out on. She'd even felt Dorcas' arse! How was she not begging for it?! Clearly she had no standards. She was dating or whatever, someone a bit beneath her but it wasn't as if he was so far beneath that it was strange but it was noticeable that she could definitely do better if she wanted, and maybe by the end of the night she would want to do better because Dorcas was fairly certain that in about eight minutes, that bloke would "need the toilet" which would earn him a scowl and possible telling off, of which he'd naturally get defensive and make his lovely little whatever seem like a raging maniac when in reality she was probably spot in. Dorcas didn't much care, whatever happened between that couple was their business, she was just after a little fun. "I told him to meet me in the toilets in five. He should be there in under ten." She smirked, "Remind me, unless he's something I'll regret in the morning then keep me distracted." Of course Tersha knew the drill, she didn't need reminding.
Floaty cocktails would be bloody marvellous, of course Dorcas was starting to doubt they were real if they were taking a while to make, Tersha had been at the bar long enough for Dorcas to have her arse felt up, potentially broken up a couple and told her all about it, whatever this bartender was up to was probably not the sort of drink that Tersha wanted, however to make them thing they were floating maybe it would be bat-crap crazy strong and make them feel all lightheaded and floaty. It was probably as close as they'd get to floating tonight, unless they got on a couple of brooms, now that would be a bloody marvellous night! Possibly life threatening. Dorcas couldn't remember the last time she'd ridden her broom drunk but it had apparently not worked out well and she was lucky enough to still be alive. Something about a head injury, a collision with a building of some kind, an attempt to get herself to St Mungo's by getting back on the broom. It was all higgledy piggledy and Dorcas was sure Tersha and a few others had made some crap up just to mess with her because she'd been so drunk with no recollection of the night at all. "I didn't really pull my jeans and knickers around my ankles and tell a muggle couple to 'suck my love rug' while pointing did I?" She asked thoughtfully as though contemplating one of life's greatest mysteries. Dorcas wasn't even sure if she'd ever even heard of that term before she was told she'd apparently screamed it at an older muggle couple that were rather displeased with the behaviour she was exhibiting. No doubt they'd been mortified after if that were the case.

Dorcas was not one for subtly. Even in her job she didn't have to use as much subtly as this was going to require. How could anyone even go about such a subject subtly anyway? There was no way of doing it and Dorcas thought Albus had lost his bloody mind if he thought she could do anything like that and besides, if she approached absolutely anything subtly with Rodolphus, he'd click on and realise how out of character it was for her. He wasn't dumb. He did stupid things, obviously, that was a given with what he had swinging between his legs, but he wasn't some kind of moron. He would know that there was something up to her wanting to be a Death Eater but there was more to it than that holding her back. There was more than asking him and triggering his suspicions but she couldn't quite put her finger on what exactly but she could feel in her stomach that it wasn't something she wanted to think on too long. She told herself it wasn't necessary but she knew that feeling all too well. It wasn't that it wasn't necessary, it was that she didn't want to delve too deep into what she thought of Rodolphus.
Albus' final words earnt him a hard stare, Dorcas brow furrowed and her unlady like grip around the stem of her wine glass tightened. A comment like that was worthy of a punch in the face but she could hardly do something like that to Albus, mostly because she was fairly certain one good blow would kill his frail old body and then where would they be? The whole Order would be at a loss without its leader so instead she placed her wineglass down on the table and stood. Her jaw was tense and the overwhelming urge to beat the living daylights out of someone had certainly crept over her. Actually less crept and more pounced. A comment like that was far from okay, it was far from truth and Dorcas knew in a moment of clarity why she was so angry, why she was so reluctant to ask Rodolphus or even broach the subject with him. It wasn't that he would grow suspicious but that if she were found out then what would happen to him? If he were the one to bring her in and she was discovered then sure, she'd be tortured and killed and whatever else they could possibly think of doing to her, she really had no cares about that, but what would they do to him? Would he suffer the same fate, all because of her? She couldn't do that to him. "I'll find a way in and I'll keep you updated." She told him, her words strained, controlling her anger as she left the room, no longer wanting to talk with Albus. If he had anything else he wanted to say or ask of her, he could damn well wait a few days when she'd be at least a little calmer but for tonight, as she pushed the door to the chilly evening air out of her way, she was off out, where, she had no idea, what she would be doing was up in the air still but one thing was certain, she wasn't sticking around here any longer and she certainly wouldn't be going home, just incase Rodolphus was there.

There was a moment of unease. There wasn't any straight forward chatting, there wasn't complete and utter certainty between the two and in fact, it felt fairly obvious that something was being withheld. What that would be Dorcas could not fathom. Her mind went to her parents being dead but if that were the case then it wouldn't be his place to inform her of something like that, heck, she didn't know whose place it would be really, probably someone from work, she could even see Dorian volunteering to tell her because the chances were she'd hex just about anyone else that brought her such news. She imagined she'd be quite a pain in the arse to approach about such a matter and Dumbledore wouldn't escape her anger so he'd better hope he had something better than that to talk about, though it would explain that slight moment of awkwardness but Dumbeldores words were slowly revealing what had him a little on edge, if you could even go that far. Reckless was something Dorcas was used to. She preferred to be well prepared for just about anything and sometimes some situations just called for a top-of-the-head plan and when she did that the term 'reckless' was certainly something that could be used. She tried to keep only her own life at risk or that of whoever she was chasing down but sometimes things got a little out of hand and others got hurt through her choices. She was able to let go of any regret she felt over such situations, if she even felt any at all these days. Sometimes things just had to be done, reckless or not, but the fact that Dumbledore was using such a term suggested to Dorcas that it wasn't just reckless, what he wanted to ask, but down right ridiculous. At least he wasn't telling her that her mum and dad were dead so right now she was feeling up to just about anything.
Dorcas took a good sized mouthful of her drink as Dumbledore carried on. He was giving her the option to pull out but as much as he was saying it, it seemed like a whole other story. If she was the only one he could ask this of then it wasn't something light or something she could actually say no to because she was the one he needed. She felt unsure about what he could possibly only need her for but then he said it, he asked the question he'd been hanging on to and she was surprised. Her eyes widened for a moment as the question sunk in slowly to her brain and she got a grip on what was being asked. Slowly a smile crept over her lips and a small laugh pushed its way up from her chest before she laughed even harder. Shaking her head as she looked to the fireplace and then back to Albus. "Reckless?" She laughed, "You mean downright suicidal. Of course I'll become a death eater if that's what's needed." She'd stopped laughing but her amusement was still present across her features. She took a deep breath, muttering "Reckless." under her breath, shaking her head and then taking a sip of wine. She supposed she should have seen this coming. Albus had personally trained her to block her mind, to keep others out and control what she allowed them to see. Had he always been preparing to ask this of her or was it something that just so happened to fit in nicely to his plans? Dorcas had no idea, she really should have seen such a question coming but she figured she kind of didn't want to. It was going to be a bitch of a task to undertake. "And what's the plan? I just ask Rodolphus to introduce me to He-Who-Must-not-Be-Named and ask politely for a Dark Mark and all his top secret plans?" Dorcas took a gulp of wine, a feeling of anxiety starting to set in but she ignored it, if she was going to do this then she was going to need to do it with confidence - real or fake.

Dorcas happily munched away on her pizza slice, pulling her blanket up over hers and Rodolphus' lap as the movie got going. She smirked a little at Rodolphus' realisation and looked up at him a little smugly as he made his comment. He knew damn well she never wanted kids, at least she thought he did, and at any rate, she was certain he knew she'd never want them with him. Who would ever want a child with a married man that would only ever be a part-time parent and a part-time partner? No thank you. Dorcas didn't want to deal with all that crap and the idea that Rodolphus already had a child was still absurd at times. Did he even see his own kid? He spoke of her from time to time but it wasn't as if he spoke of her like he knew her, it was always things about a mess she'd made, or more that Dorcas was somehow messier, or that Aurora's possessions were bigger, better, prettier or whatever than Dorcas', but he never really spoke much of his daughter and the sort of person she was. Perhaps he didn't know what she was like or maybe he just didn't feel comfortable talking about her to Dorcas, either way one thing was certain, Dorcas had no idea what Rodolphus was like as a parent and she never had any intentions of finding out. Dorcas arched a single brow up at Rodolphus, "You wish." She told him, then looked back to the movie.
As the movie played on Dorcas made the odd little comment here and there to wind up Rodolphus. Every now and then he had his own little smart-arse rebuttal but the evening was laid back and easy going. Dorcas had her half of the pizza and stole enough bites of Rodolphus' to make up just about a slice but he didn't complain, not tonight while she was stealing his food at least. Naturally he couldn't help himself from making the occasional wiseacre remark but he knew she loved it, even if she didn't say anything. Rodolphus was just easy to be around and the way he could just relax around her too, even indulging in a little muggle movie without much complaint, made Dorcas kind of happy. It was certainly a better way to end her week. Gradually she'd brought her blanket further and further up until it was right up under her chin, only her head visible. She'd rested her head at some point against Rodolphus' chest and listened to his heartbeat beating away rather than paying attention to the movie. Eventually she did pay more attention to the movie than Rodolphus and his heartbeat seemed to just fade away into the distance. She summoned them a few more drinks over the course of the movie and the kittens entertained themselves, Dog at one point climbing up the back of the sofa and digging his needle like claws into Rodolphus' shoulder causing Dorcas to laugh after Rodolphus had, in her opinion, hollered in unexpected pain. After the kitten incident the two were back to how they'd been before, wrapped up on the couch together, watching the end of the movie. Much to his credit Rodolphus sat through the whole thing with her right up to the credits and she didn't have to instigate anything sexual ether. Once it was over Dorcas got up, wrapping herself in the blanket and turning the movie and the tele off. She'd rewind the tape tomorrow. Leaving the empty beer and cider bottles where they were, Dorcas figured she'd feel up to sorting out the house tomorrow and much to her secret delight, Rodolphus scooped her up and carried her up the stairs to her tiny little ensuite where they brushed their teeth and made their way to bed, Dorcas falling asleep quickly and easily in Rodolphus' arms, smiling in the dark as he kissed the top of her head.
