Alvar Ignace Bellerose
PERSONALITY Boggart: His boggart would turn into his brother, Alvar is scared to face his brother since he became family Patriarch and ordered the killings of Alvar and his family. Mirror of Erised: He would see himself with his wife and son, them alive and living in the house he and his wife built for each other. Patronus: Wolf – His happiest memory him getting married to the love of his life, he often describes her as his soulmate and the woman who awakened to him the real world and showed him Muggle-Borns weren’t freaks or any different from them, and that blood status shouldn’t matter. To truly know Alvar is to know the Alvar during his youth and time at Hogwarts is different from the current Alvar in their worldviews and future goals. The younger Alvar embraced a worldview of pure-blood supremacy and was prone to fights and lashing out at his fellows Gryffindors who were blood traitors or mud bloods. He had a goal of joining the family business in the illegal and legal trades they had their hands in all over France. The current Alvar who has learned from his mistakes and sees the world in a new light rejects his former pure-blood supremacy views and political positions. He advocates for improved relations with Muggles embraces muggle-borns and so-called blood traitors that he once tormented and rejected. He strives to be a force of justice and guardian for those who can’t protect themselves. Alvar, in general, is a blunt, brave, confident, and extremely flirty person. Like any natural Gryffindor, he is one of the first people to confront danger, but he applies a methodical thinking process before rushing into any fight heads on. He understands that brains can overcome brawn. He is very confident in his abilities to the point of where his ego is inflated at times turning people off. Being a flirt has always been a natural part of Alvar and he doesn’t shy away from it considering how blunt he is. Alvar also suffers from bouts of depression time to time due to the loss of his son and wife which has deeply hurt him. He also suffers from an inability to trust people and to let people into his life. The Bellerose family was also known for its wide influence in French and international politics, their wealth and the fancy parties they hosted over the years at their estate. The family also operated a few select trade networks to help smuggle dark magical artifacts in and out of the country among other illegal items. The most mysterious aspect of the Bellerose family was their cult-like belief in a hierarchy system decided through a Duel called “Royaute”, meaning Kingship. The winner of the said duel is the Patriarch of the family despite if they are not the oldest, and the family considers their words as law. As well the family follows the traditions laid down by their great-great-grandfathers in a book and are strict about following said traditions and family rules written in the book. Alvar was born into the midst of this and from a young age, he was doctrine into the dark arts and how pure-bloods were vastly better than anyone else. His mother was the closest thing he felt towards to actual love, while his dad was always strict on grades, lessons, and always pushing his children to accomplish more. Despite being born in France and living there he was arranged by his Uncle Ignace to live with him, just like most of the siblings, during his school years so he may attend Hogwarts was Ignace had a position on the Board of Governors. During his school years, he was trained by his Uncle Ignace in becoming a Legilimens, he continued learning from his uncle throughout his time at Hogwarts on each holiday break. He has kept practicing Legilmency since graduating Hogwarts and leaving his Uncle’s house and has learned various tips from other Legilimens he has met during his travels. In 1964 Alvar arrived at Hogwarts and was sorted in Gryffindor, and while most Bellerose’s that attended Hogwarts were Slytherins a few had been sorted into other houses and was never frowned upon in the family. Alvar held his pure-blood views that his family drilled into him and he showed them proudly, starting fights with his fellow Gryffindors that he saw as Mud-bloods or Blood traitors. He was given a weeks’ worth of Detentions in his third year for a duel he started with a group of Hufflepuffs and risked Expulsion until his Uncle stepped in and was able to prevent it from happening. Going forward Alvar learned to start covering his steps if he attacked someone knowing he could not get caught in any further incidents for his Uncle couldn’t help him again. During his rest of time of Hogwarts Alvar took great interest in DADA, Ancient Runes, and Potions. He also played on Gryffindor Quidditch team as a Gryffindor Beater for the last three years at Hogwarts. After graduating in 1970 from Hogwarts he did what all Bellerose family members were required to do after school, which was to travel the world visiting contacts of the Bellerose family and learn different aspects of the Dark Arts for 3 years. For the first six months, he visited Italy, Greece, Brazil, and even Egypt. During these six months, Alvar noticed that a lot of his family contacts were ruthless in how they treated blood traitors, more ruthless than he was. In 1972 he ran into a former Hogwarts student Percival Dearborn studying to be a Curse-Breaker who was in Egypt at the same time he was. By this time, he had started to doubt the views he had so brazenly embraced during school and while hanging out with Percival he grew more welcoming to Muggle-borns and half-bloods. In January of 1973, Percival set him on a blind date while they were both in Japan with a French Muggle-Born named Silva who was an aspiring Historian. They fell in love instantly despite the difference in blood status and Silva is the one who truly opened Alvar’s eyes, six months later they were expecting a baby and getting married. When Alvar returned home he came to visit his Uncle Ignace and tell him of the news and that he married a Muggle-Born hoping he would understand. Uncle Ignace who still held strict pure-blood views, however, held a special place for his nephew Alvar and agreed that he, Silva and their son Dion would be spared from the family, but he also would be as forth banished, with Ignace as the Patriarch the rest of the family would fall in line In 1975 Alvar started training as an Auror for British Ministry despite pushback from some in the department considering his family’s history as those who embraced the dark arts. In 1977 a change of leadership in the Bellerose family happened with Amoux Bellerose challenging his Uncle Ignace at a Duel for Royauté. Ignace was killed by Amoux who gained the upper hand in the duel, and the first move as Patriarch was Amoux declaring that Alvar was a traitor to the family and, he and his wife and son deserved to be killed. On December 18th, 1977 Alvar arrived home from Auror training to find his wife and son killed with the house left untouched except for a message of “Mort à traître” on the wall written in the blood of his wife. The murder has remained unsolved and while Alvar to this date argues it was his family, he has been unable to find any hard evidence to prove this. The killing of his wife and son first sent him into a deep depression but it has now turned into a fire that fuels a desire to bring down those who wield magic as a weapon and to also protect those who can’t protect themselves. That same night Alvar was attacked by his older sister Estella who told him the change of leadership and that Amoux had ordered him to be killed not banished. Alvar in protecting himself, accidentally killed his sister by sending her flying off the bridge that they were dueling on, her body was recovered by Amoux and other family members. He has never come clean about this killing to anyone and covered up all evidence that he could think of. On April 8th, 1978 Alvar was officially hired on as an Auror and he was since tried to move on since the death of his wife and son. Alvar has had a time fitting in with some of the Auror office and other members of the MLE department given his past views and family name. Despite his older brother wanting him dead, no one else has attempted an attack on Alvar since he killed Estella when she was sent to kill him. Alvar is unsure why this is the case, but to this day he always lives in fear awaiting the arrival of his brother or another family member sent to kill him. Despite leaning to the side of the Order Alvar has remained neutral in the war wishing to stay out of it and just do his job as an Auror.
