Order of the phoenix application
@junebug
Connection to the Order: Attending Hogwarts, Remus found that Dumbledore was never exactly quiet or secretive about the Order, but that may have just been his own experience with the matter. He was also fairly certain that the headmaster only mentioned certain things to people he thought needed to know. In some way, looking back through that set of lenses, Remus feels like he was meant to be part of the Order. He knew of it, albeit without some of the finer details, since some time around fifth year when he got the notion that he might want to be an Auror. While that desire quickly changed, the idea of the Order stuck in his mind. After graduation, his best mates from day one all joined, and it was a natural step that he should apply as well.
Useful Skills: Though the strength varies depending on the phase of the moon, Remus has heightened senses, especially hearing and scent. He can't exactly broadcast why this is the case, but in a hunt for a particular person or in a battle (particularly when one suspects an ambush), this can be quite a useful skill to have. In theory, he'd be able to assist in the search for a person or warn his team members of approaching danger. If nothing more, he could certainly save them a little time. Secondly, he is very skilled with magic, and not that humble about it. With the help of Peter, Sirius, and James, he was instrumental in creating the Marauder's Map, which shows prowess in Charms. He is also very good at summoning his patronus, and even controlling what is produced. Very rarely will his patronus take its wolf form, as Remus is worried that it gives too much away about him, but will often present as non-corporeal. Thirdly, and he says this half jokingly, he can probably reign Sirius and James in better than most. Probably.
Useful Affiliations: Remus' father, Lyall Lupin, is a Ministry employee, but more useful than that is Remus' well protected connection to Fenrir Greyback and the werewolf community. It's not something he would like to exploit, mind you, or even allow too many people to be aware of, but in a time of need, Remus is sure this might become useful in any number of ways. They could need insight into the group, or even a spy. There are not many werewolves that fight on the "good" side, after all, and Remus is not above using that fact to his advantage.
Why join the Order of the Phoenix? There are several reasons why Remus wants to join the Order, most of them intensely personal. Since graduating, he's been having a very difficult time trying to find employment or even peace of mind. If he can't hold a job down, he still wants to be useful, to give something to the world. More importantly, he wants to help people, and with a dark war being waged in the world, Remus cannot sit by idly. He also has a need to prove that he is worth more than his curse, that being a werewolf does not undermine his value or his skills. His best friends have also joined the Order, and Remus would follow them anywhere to protect them and fight by their side. Those kinds of bonds mean something, after all. Above all of this, though, is a moral obligation to see that light and good prevails in the world. The very basis of the lines being drawn are that some people, by circumstances outside of their control (birth rights, lineage, even being bitten by a werewolf at age 4) mean that they do not deserve to live within the magical community. Remus, better than most, understands what it feels like to have that ideology force fed to him. He understands what it means to believe that, sometimes, even though he knows it's wrong. If there is one thing in this life that he wants to accomplish, it's to help ensure that no one's life should be in danger or lost because of who their parents chose to love or be. Ideas are dangerous and powerful, especially if in the wrong hands, and Remus can't imagine doing anything but helping in the fight. Even if denied a place in the Order of the Phoenix, he likes to think he'll still find a way to aid the cause.
