PERSONALITY Boggart: As a healer, her worst fear is any patient of hers passing away so a generic faceless figure accusing her of failing them Mirror of Erised: Finding love and having a family of her own Patronus: Robin – Being accepted into the healer training programme a couple of years ago The first thing you will notice about May is that she is blonde but don't let that old saying about blondes slip into your head for the last thing this girl is is an airhead! Despite being a Hufflepuff alumni there could have been every chance of her being a Ravenclaw. She is a very smart young woman, who, once she had put her mind to what she wanted to do in life made sure she achieved exactly that. She loves books but not to the same extent as those in the Ravenclaw house and is certainly not afraid to get her hands dirty for she spends every free moment she can working in her small garden. Always seen with a smile on her face she is described as friendly and warm hearted but at the same time many of her patients know her to be firm and not one to argue with. She is incredibly stubborn and simply doesn't take no for an answer from those she looks after. May is not afraid to march into any wing of the hospital, a frown on her face and eyes set in determination if any of her fellow healers are struggling with their own patients and she is always there to help even the most senior of staff. This determination has signalled that she is quite likely to go very far in her career and she certainly hopes to become a matron in the future and perhaps even work at Hogwarts! As a prefect in her last year of school May has all the qualities of being a leader and was always a great favourite with the younger years of her house, being fair when it came to dealing out punishments but at the same time being firm in her decisions. May liked to deal with things herself, not willing to take things to those in authority if it could be helped and whilst this is always a good work ethic it was also very difficult for her to ask for help when she really needs it. Not that she isn't willing to! She just likes being able to stand on her own two feet. May is a romantic at heart and often daydreams of the day someone will appear in her life and whisk her away but at the same time she knows that in order for a relationship to work both parties need to work at it and compromise on things. May is also one of those people that doesn't think a relationship can be worked on just a number. As long as they love one another what difference does it make if one is older than the other? (Of course she would never even dream of doing anything illegal! Its quite a different matter when one is underage!) HISTORY Mother: Tabitha Pickett, muggleborn, 41, teacher Father: Leopold Pickett, pureblood, 43, ministry worker Siblings: Terence Pickett, deceased Peggy Pickett, 18, Unemployed Partners: None Others: May was born 'Maybelle Agatha Pickett' to Tabby and Leo Pickett. Born into a world of magic there was very little to show that she was only a half blood as both of her parents had gone to Hogwarts -although her mother now works in a muggle school. For a few years May was the only child and during this time she was somewhat spoilt although her parents made sure to teach her various life lessons, despite her young age. They made sure that she knew it was a good thing to share in life, that by working hard she would be able to fulfil her every dream and that family was worth more than all the gold in Gringotts so by the time her sister Peggy arrived into the world May had worked out that being jealous of a new baby simply wasn't the way to go. Besides she adored the younger sibling and being the elder sister made sure to keep Peggy happy by playing with her and even gave the other girl her most cherished doll (Peggy still carries it everywhere). By the time she was six she was well settled into muggle schooling, her parents choosing to have her educated in both worlds so that when the time came she would be able to settle down anywhere. She loved school although she missed her family greatly but May was never going to be known as a shy child and easily made friends. This year also brought her final sibling into the world although it had not been an easy birth. There were complications and he was very premature, however they were told that this was nothing to really worry over and for some months it looked like he would recover from that trauma until the day came when his results came back. The news was terrible and even at their young age both girls knew that something was badly wrong for their mother would often cry for no apparent reason and their father would pace about the room with a deep frown set on his face. Terence was diagnosed with Leukaemia and immediately began treatments to try and cure him. Having grown up in a house where magic was the norm young May simply couldn't understand why they couldn't magic him better, her mind not developed enough to know that it was something more than magic could fix. It was a Muggle disease and it was only as she got older and her brother grew weaker that she began to research everything she could about it, however the resources open to a child such as herself were few and far between. For most people the arrival of their Hogwarts letter signalled the start of a new adventure but for May it was a letter taking her away from a family that needed her more than ever. She might only have been eleven but she knew exactly where she needed to be and yet her parents decided it was the best thing for her and before she knew what was happening everything had been bought and she was on the platform waiting to leave. Her entire family were there to send her off and the tears fell only when her brother -allowed to leave the hospital for the occasion- handed over an owl. ‘So you can write to me and tell me everything.’ Despite being a very smart individual the sorting hat saw the size of her heart and decided that she would be a Hufflepuff. May loved her house the moment she became a part of it but for the first few months found it very hard to become involved with the others, her heart aching to be at home with her brother until at least he wrote to her telling her that he was feeling a lot better and that she needed to start making friends so that he could meet them come the summer holidays. From that moment she began to work harder, gaining friends and making the most of her time at the school. It was no surprise to see a smile on her face although those who knew her well knew it was often a faked on as worry seeped deep into her eyes. This worry continued for some years and by the time she hit her fourth year it was confirmed that unless her brother began reacting well to his therapy he would die, for his body was rejecting the treatments. However it was not to be. Tabby and Leo were forced to break the news to their daughters that the 'cure' wasn't working and it was with a few heartbreaking months that they were all forced to watch as Terry's body eventual gave up the fight for life. It had been a sheer miracle -the doctors had told them- that he had lived this long. For Maybelle this was the start of a terrible new term at school as she and her sister adjusted to the fact that their little brother was no longer with them. It was also at this point that May began to work hard towards her new chosen career. By the time she had graduated from Hogwarts she had been a prefect for her last year and the pain of losing her brother was slowly starting to lessen and the smile began to creep back onto her face. Getting several outstanding results in her exams she was easily accepted into the training programme at St Mungos. Becoming a nurse was something she was passionate about and being able to help people had taken a deep root within her heart. She hadn't been able to save her brother from the illness that had claimed him but she knew that with the work she did there was every chance she could help other families keep their loved ones. Of course, working in a magical hospital was completely different to a Muggle one but since magical world accepted adulthood before the mundane one did it was the obvious choice. Moving from her home in Wales was a tough decision, especially since it took her away from a home she loved but it was the right one for her and her parents helped pay for a flat that would be hers until she decided to leave it. Away from the constant reminders of her heartbreak she has settled in quite happily and the girl many knew before the tragedy was starting to reappear. One day the pain might lessen enough for her to not tear up at the very thought of Terry and she does long for that day to come...She wants to remember the boy as he had been when the treatments had been working. She has dedicated the rest of her working career to her brother and so help her she will make him and the rest of her family proud.
