PERSONALITY Boggart: Bonnie's Boggart would be her ex-husband approaching her with a wedding ring- her biggest fear is her past catching up with her. Mirror of Erised: Bonnie would see herself standing in the Hogwarts library surrounded by all the friends she has lost and left behind over the years. Patronus: Horse - Her happiest memory is of the day that she finally threw her husband out of her life. Bonnie is a direct, no-nonsense person who has little patience with idiots, fools or people whose opinions she considers to be stupid. She does not suffer fools gladly, and has a dark sense of humour which can shock some who are not used to it. She is hardworking, efficient and dedicated, and is definitely one of nature's organisers. Her visions have given her an appreciation for the virtues of living in the present and she tries to live her life as well as she can, enjoying the moment rather than constantly worrying about what is to come. She has a natural inclination to dwell on her past and worry about her mistakes, but she is trying to overcome this. HISTORY Mother: Katie Belle Shafiq, 78, Ravenclaw, truly pureblood Father: Harold Brandon Winterbourne, 79, Hufflepuff, pureblood Siblings: Natasha Felicity Handon, 56, Hufflepuff, pureblood Partners: Formerly James Sean McGinty, 55, Gryffindor, halfblood Others: Charles William McGinty, 31, Slytherin, halfblood Bonnie was born to two magical parents in a small village in Surrey, where she grew up and attended a Muggle school since her parents were progressive and firmly believed that she needed to have some understanding on Muggle society and to know how to conceal her magical abilities in case she ever found herself in the Muggle world in the future. It quickly became apparent to the couple that their daughter was not a normal child. She was magical, of course- with two magical parents, this was only to be expected, and her parents were not at all shocked at that. But Bonnie also displayed some other tendencies which were not quite so common even within the magical community, and so Katie and Harold quickly realised that there was only one explanation. Their daughter was a Seer. At first, they were more worried than excited, wondering what kind of things Bonnie might see and whether or not she realised what she could do. It became perfectly evident that she did when she made a comment over breakfast with the addendum 'I wonder when that will happen?'. As it turned out, it happened at around lunchtime, and Katie in particular saw this as final confirmation of their daughter's abilities. She blamed her husband's side of the family, since his grandmother had been well-known as a Seer, and, not being fully conversant with the art, grew increasingly paranoid as the girl grew older. Still, her father was optimistic and encouraged her to stretch herself further, discovering more and more of what she could do. By the time that Bonnie attended Hogwarts aged eleven, she had a little more control over the things that she saw and could block out visions which she didn't want to see. She could even, on occasion, look for specific events- so it came as no surprise to her when she was sorted into Ravenclaw. Her years at Hogwarts were fairly uneventful, broken only by news of the Muggle Second World War, which came in her fourth year and made her summer holidays that year somewhat interesting since her travel home from London was interrupted by a vision about the Blitz, still quite some years in the future, This left her shaken and, since she was travelling with Muggles, bursting to tell someone about what she had seen. On leaving Hogwarts, Bonnie took up a position with the Ministry of Magic's Department for Magical Law Enforcement, where she met James McGinty, an Auror in training with whom she immediately struck it off. One thing led to another and in 1946, she found herself pregnant. At the time, there was only one thing for it, and so Bonnie Winterbourne married James McGinty, and then gave birth to Charles McGinty. However, while the couple had got on perfectly well while they were living in different houses, they quickly discovered that the blessed state of matrimony did not suit them at all, and though they tried hard to make it work, Bonnie eventually filed for divorce in 1951 and, after a hard-fought battle, she was successful, taking her son with her. With a five year old child to look after, she regretfully decided that she really could not maintain a full time job and so she handed in her notice to the Ministry, who were sorry to see her go, and focused her considerable energies on bringing up her son. It wasn't easy, being a single mother in the 1950s, but she was determined, and one of the happiest days of her life was when, after finishing his Hogwarts education, Charles announced his intentions of going to study at a Muggle university. With her son effectively off her hands and a lot of her life still left ahead of her, Bonnie returned to her Seeing, and discovered that with age had apparently come both a greater control and a greater ability, both of which she fully explored. In 1974, she applied for the post of Divination professor at Hogwarts- and was refused. However, she persisted and finally achieved the post two years later in 1976.
