Jasper Ageis Scamander
PERSONALITY Boggart: He's an Auror and has witnessed some of the worst atrocities committed, particularly during this time of strife. If confronted by a Boggart he would see his youngest sister, Artemis, mauled by a werewolf. Mirror of Erised: Can we go back to the Boggart question? Cause Jasper would never let that happen. Fine, glittering green eyes staring up at him in an adoring fashion. She looks lovely in a white dress coming down a long aisle. That's all you're getting. *Stubborn* Patronus: A Nundu. For a long time Jasper's patronus was only visible as a large bright cloud, never taking a real shape. When the Nundu finally did appear Jasper was at a loss for words finding himself to be nothing like the extremely dangerous creature. He had a long talk with his father after that. Jasper is the mythic hero of old times and has a personality as big as he is. He is innately good and believes in justice, but also mercy and compassion. Having younger siblings and working on a farm taught Jasper much about responsibility, leadership, kindness and patience. He has natural and honed protective instincts and an old world charm, which makes him a fierce Auror and a modern day Cassanova. He's not necessarily a love'em and leave'em kind of man, but he hasn't found "the one" yet. Therefore, he is always a gentleman and acts in the most courteous fashion toward women. Somehow, while he may be leaving a trail of "broken hearts", he's never left a woman with anything less than a smile on her lips. Despite being larger than life and the very definition of a good boy, on the other side of Jasper's large heart, compassion, and kindness is a passionately flawed man. He's stubborn, always thinks he knows best (and that he's typically the best person for the job), overprotective (doesn't even come close to how he feels about his younger siblings), and beneath the "can do" exterior, he can also be insecure. He feels as though he has to be a good example to his siblings. He has to catch the bad guy. He has to save the damsel in distress. He has to be the biggest and he has to be the best, because he always has been, because that's what they expect of him. Most days he takes it in stride, but some days after a grueling case or even when his mind settles he realizes how exhausted he really is, and that no one really knows who he is. He'd never admit any of this, and really only his sister, Flora, has any idea just how afraid Jasper is of letting people down and how lonely that makes him feel. Flora is often the only one that can reach him when he's "in a mood". Because of his sheer size and strength, an angry Jasper is a terrifying Jasper, though he'd sooner cut off his hand than harm anyone he cares about. Many times in his youth he would need to ride Llamrei, an Abraxan he acquired in his youth to get away and release his anger rather than releasing it on a person. With a pretty face, a hard body (earned by working on a farm with his father and in training as an auror), and an easy jovial manner, most categorize him rather quickly. Thus it's always surprising when his intelligence pokes through and he turns serious. It isn't that the intelligence isn't there or that he lacks the ability to be serious, but most don’t expect it from him and he has no need to prove himself in that way. He enjoys taking charge and is a natural born leader. Others: Queenie Goldstein, maternal Auntie Theseus Scamander, paternal Uncle An abraxan named Llamrei and an eagle owl named Archimedes Weighing in at 10 lbs and releasing a lusty cry to announce his arrival, Jasper came into this world already larger than life. He was soon soothed in the loving arms of his parents and surrounded by the love that would carry him through his life. As a child, Jasper loved nothing more than pretending to be the hero in one of his father's novels and at the age of four declared he would become an Auror like his mum. He grew up with an affinity for animals, learning how to be gentle in dealing with the most delicate of creatures and how to be firm in dealing with the wildest. Growing up on a farm, he was no stranger to hard work, responsibility, or early mornings, but he was a good boy that never complained, quick to smile and dig in with his hand, his wand, or whatever else needed to help his parents. Further contributing to the hero complex, were the four younger siblings that came after him. Jasper adored being the big brother and his siblings mean the world to him, though admittedly, he's closest to Flora. At 11, he received his Hogwarts letter. While he was hesitant to leave the farm because of his responsibilities, he was excited at the new adventure school would bring. His parents laughed, gently assuring their eldest that they were more than capable of getting along at home while he was at school. When it came time for the sorting hat to decide his house, he seemed to sit there for an inordinately long time. Eventually, in a clear decisive voice, the hat declared, "GRYFFINDOR!" Jasper was shocked. Not because of the house the sorting hat had chosen for him, but rather for what he had been told moments before. "There is greatness in you. What you will do with that greatness, yet remains to be seen." For a young boy whose parents raised him with all the "good" values and traits, he would have thought the sorting to be a quick straight forward process, and he never imagined himself as anything other than a hero. The confusion didn't last long. He made friends and soon forgot about the sorting hat's words, until his 5th year. *** At 15, already a foot taller than most of his classmates, Jasper was a sight to behold - tall, exceedingly handsome, and quite skilled in magic. He was a Norse god in the making. On Holiday he returned home to the farm and his family. A few days before Christmas his father requested he join him to check out a nearby abraxan stable. "Don't tell your mother." he said with a teasing glint in his eyes. The Scamanders had more than enough animals on their property, if Porpentina knew that Newt was considering breeding abraxans she'd have likely…agreed, but only after much cajoling. Honestly, Newt was fortunate to have met a woman who loved creatures as much as himself, or maybe it was just him she loved, to say nothing else of the woman's qualities. Ordinarily the spirited animals were as large as elephants and varied in temperament. Newt thought it would be a good experience for Jasper. When they arrived, Newt went to speak to the owners while Jasper went to check on the stable. He heard the pain-filled whinny before he saw the whip come down on the small (for an abraxan) horse. The caretaker was vicious in his beating and the abraxan was already on the ground panicking and trying to flee from the cruel sting of the whip. Jasper shouted for him to stop and rushed to the winged animal. The abraxan's eyes were wide and panicked, upon closer scrutiny Jasper could see the scars where the horse had been whipped and abused previously. "What did you do to him?" he asked stunned his hands hovering over the animal but not touching. The man had paused in his lashing at hearing the authoritative voice approaching, but when Jasper came closer and revealed himself to be a large teenager, the older wizard spat, "Rathead mare refused ter move." Jasper quickly noted the abraxan's injured leg and grew angry, "She can't you feeble minded pig's swill! Her cannon is fractured!" The man spat again and shrugged. "She can't be older than a yearling!" he shouted noting how small the abraxan was, comparatively no bigger than a large stallion. "Eh, she's fully grahn, jus' small. Master daan't care much faw 'er anyha. Waste of feed if ya ask me." A few moments later Newt heard the shouting just before rounding the corner to find his teenage son with his arm raised back, he held a whip in his hand and furiously brought it down on the caretaker who screamed in pain. "Jasper!" The boy didn't respond but continued to wield the whip with deadly intent until his father wrestled it from his grip. Jasper, in a red rage, fought against the force holding him back to reach the caretaker with his bare hands, but the man moved too fast. When the haze cleared, Jasper looked at his father in horror and confusion at what had just happened and the sorting hat's words ran through his mind. Feeling deeply ashamed at his actions he ran from his father and walked in no particular direction. Later that evening when Jasper returned home, his parents were waiting for him. He had plenty of time to think about his actions, but he honestly didn't know what fate awaited him. The worst reprimand he ever received was for forgetting to lock the gate on their crup's enclosure when he was twelve. This was far worse. Immediately his mother hugged him, but afterward they had a long talk about his actions, his anger, and self-control. "Are the O'Malley's going to press charges?" he asked looking at his mother, "Will I have to face the ministry?" he asked his father. He was afraid to ask the question, but held shoulder's back ready to accept his fate. His parents shared a look. "No son." Newt said and explained that charges had been brought up against the O'Malley's, not only for the abuse of the singular Abraxan Jasper had defended, but the others in the stable as well. They had been lucky. The local Magical Law Enforcement officer had a highly ranked cousin in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures and brought the issue directly to them. They had shared this information with Jasper while walking to one of the vacant buildings on the farm. Opening the large doors revealed the injured Abraxan, now properly tended to. Jasper walked tentatively toward the wounded animal whose eyes were still wide as he approached, "Easy girl…" he said his palm out. He reached a certain point then let her come to him which she did cautiously. There was an instant bond between them (though it would be several months before he attempted to ride her and several more months after that before she let him). Newt put his hand on his son's shoulder, "The ministry is sending the rest of the string over throughout the week until they can figure out where to put them or find owners, but I think she's found her wizard." "What are you going to call her?" Porpentina asked. "Llamrei" "King Arthur's favored mare." his mother supplied glancing at her husband who had filled their son's head with myths and legends both magical and muggle. Jasper's eyes lit up and his heart beat furiously, as he realized the beautiful creature belonged to him now. He gave his attention back to his new companion, "No one will ever hurt you again. " he promised. From that moment on Jasper realized the weakness he had for the defenseless. He would make a fine Auror, but he would need to learn how to control himself with what he would face in his chosen profession or he could become very dangerous indeed. *** Potions was admittedly his worst subject (other than Arithmancy, which he had only taken to impress a girl), but he managed to fly through his NEWTs fairly well. He was admitted into Auror training where he excelled. He even set a record as one of the fastest trainees to complete the program, a record that would be broken several years later by Dorian Humbert. He didn't take it personally, he vaguely recalled the Ravenclaw from school. Dorian had been in the same year and house as his younger sister Flora. There was even an incident involving a gross miscommunication between him, the younger man, and his youngest sister, Artemis, but he had long forgotten about the man. Instead of being miffed at his record being broken he took it in a jovial stride, slapping the all too serious man on the back and attempting to show him the ropes. A completely unnecessary endeavor, as Dorian took to the job better than anyone Jasper had ever known. He admired the man's intelligence and respected his opinion. They became something akin to mates, unofficially partnering up more than one case to the betterment of both their careers. Until the tragedy. After the death of Dorian's parents he wasn't the same man. Jasper tried everything under the sun to help his friend, but the more he tried the more Dorian pushed him away until finally they were nothing more than colleagues. Jasper understands, but he doesn't know how someone can go from being mates to being practically strangers. The other mystery in Jasper's life is Dorcas Meadowes. All he knows is that he's irrational and at times juvenile when she's around and more than a little distracted and he doesn't like talking about it.
