Words are like weapons they wound sometimes
It was exactly like Euphadora to go off and have a child with a stranger only to cast it at someone else’s feet to take care of. The girl had always been an insolent little brat, but she’d become completely unbearable since her father had died; always whining about herself and never once thinking of anyone else. She was selfish and spoiled. Heath had treated her far too much like a little princess for Rebekah’s liking, and this was outcome of all that coddling and excessive affection; Rebekah Parkinson was being forced to raise her own granddaughter while Euphadora laid about in bed having attractive men cater to her every whim. Never mind that Dora was in hospital and the attractive men in question were the Auror who’d recovered her from a vampire den and a healer who was working round the clock to keep her alive. It was still more attention and affection than Rebekah had been shown in quite some time, and now she had a fussy baby to contend with.
As if the Parkinson name hadn’t been soiled enough, there were now rumors of Dora’s vampiric addiction floating around their social circles. Rebekah wasn’t likely to get an invitation to many Christmas parties this year, what with Euphadora utterly obliterating the family name in one lust-filled evening in a graveyard. It was impossibly embarrassing for Rebekah, and there were very few places left she could turn for support. Luckily, there was some family left where she could go and hopefully get help caring for this child who had been thrust unwittingly upon her. Rebekah sat in the lounge of her sister-in-law's home, waiting for the house elf to notify the Rowles of her presence. Pansy was pulling herself up on the little table in front of the sofa and babbling incessantly. It was doing Rebekah’s head in.

A flick of the quill. Another flick of the quill. Another flick of the quill. Titus dropped the damn quill on his desk and placed his head in his hands. Dolohov had big plans at the Ministry and it meant a hell of a lot of behind the scenes work from everyone. He wanted new laws and they didn't just happen overnight, oh no, and with another big speech coming up in July everything had to be ready for the next big thing. The house elf knocked on the door, and Titus sat upright in his chair. "Enter." He called. Thippy told him of his sister-in-law who was waiting downstairs with Pansy and Titus groaned. Rebekah was as exhausting to deal with as her daughter, more so even, but at least Dora had the charming quality of youth on her side, of not knowing any better, Rebekah was just a mess, a mess that thought it prudent to drop by in the middle of the day. Titus looked at his watch. It was a little later than he had realised. He'd worked through lunch and now he was having to deal with his sister-in-law whilst hungry. It was not a good combination. "Prepare some tidbits for our guests." He said, standing. Let her know I'll be with her shortly.
Titus gave his wand a wave as Thippy disappeared. His work flew into his desk and there was a click of the lock. His quill returned to its ink well and his drinking glass and whiskey disappeared. Titius didn't head straight down the stairs, instead he headed for one of the back rooms that was used for various purposes and in there he pulled out a present wrapped in shimmering pink paper with sparkling unicorns dancing on rainbows all across it. It was finished with pink ribbon and an over the top pink bow. Titus carried it through the house until he reached the reception room where Pansy was holding on to a coffee table, "There's my littlest Princess!" He grinned, putting on his uncle Ti-ti voice. "And what brings you here today little Princess?" He crouched down next to the table and next to Pansy, "Is it this?" He asked with a gasp, placing it on the ground next to him. It was almost about the same height as Pansy, certainly wider, but he thought she would thoroughly enjoy her little gift. He looked to Rebekah as Pansy made her way to the present, babbling away in her own baby talk, "Good afternoon, Bek. Eve's not here right now but you're welcome to stay a spell." He said, more than happy to have Pansy, she was an absolute delight and perfect excuse to leave his work, Rebekah on the other hand, was not.

They were joined by Titus who promptly turned all his attention on the baby. Rebekah sat there with a forced patience that her mother had trained into her many, many years ago. She watched Titus, his ease with the child affirming Beks’ decision in coming here to seek help. Her brother-in-law presented a large gift to the child though it was wrapped and she very much doubted the one year old had sense enough to know how to unwrap it on her own. Not that she had spent much time with the child before now. She’d received an invitation to Pansy’s birthday party not long ago but there had never been any intention of her going. Surely Euphadora knew that.
Eve was out, which was whom she had intended to speak with but the man of the house would do just as well. “My apologies for dropping by unannounced, Titus. I wasn’t sure where else to turn except family. It’s been so very hard, you know.” She was certain news of Dora’s little melodramatics had made their way to the Rowle’s ears but she would elaborate if it hadn’t yet. If nothing else it gave her more opportunity to bemoan the state of her crumbling family.

Pansy was climbing up to the present and inspecting the paper, smacking her little hand on a unicorn as it galloped in circles around a sparkling rainbow, just like all babies, she was more interested in the paper than the present itself, Titus just smiled watching her play before he remembered Bek had spoken. "Life is full of surprises," He said, not sure what she was doing here really, she wasn't usually the sort to just drop by unannounced with "And your family will always be around to support you." Support was a loose term, Titus would happily throw a bit of gold her way if it meant she'd bugger off and leave them be, but she was Eve's sister-in-law and Titus didn't want to offend her or he was sure they'd never hear the end of it, besides, the less drama from the Parkinsons, the better.

Titus was saying all the right things, though even if he wasn’t Beks was sure she would find the support she was looking for here, whether it was now with her brother-in-law or later when she could connect with Eve directly. Eve was Heath’s sister, and the women shared a mutual sadness over the loss of Rebekah’s husband. A sadness which, Beks knew, could be exploited if need be – not that Rebekah thought what she was doing now was exploiting her sister-in-law's emotions, but if she ever needed to...
“Euphadora has just left me with such a mess to clean up. You know her father and I raised her better than this, but she’s always been a difficult child. And now I have this one to look after for Merlin knows how long...” Had Rebekah ever called the baby by her name? Not that there had been many opportunities to do so in person in the past, but even in conversation it was rare to “Pansy” slip passed her lips. Rebekah hoped Titus would see where she was going without her having to actually ask.

Titus had never really thought of either of the Parkinson children as difficult, he'd always thought they were remarkably resilient given the parents they had in life, but it wasn't his place to intervene, but if knew such "parenting" was going on within his direct family, he wouldn't stand for it, Titus always had a soft spot for children, they were so remarkably naive and their minds a wonder to be shaped to bring about the future the wizarding world desperately needed. Poor Theon was gone and Dora ... well she wasn't who she used to be, at least not the funny, giggling child that always had a mischievous sparkle in her eye growing up, she'd transformed into a much more ... free spirited individual than even Titus would have guessed, but that was all down to Rebekah and Heath neglecting her and Theon. "Free-spirited, perhaps, but she'll come around, she just needs time." He said just as Pansy tore into the gift, although she plomped down on her padded backside and shook the paper about, giggling merrily at the unicorns prancing, "Pansy is always welcome here if you need a break, Beks, perhaps indulge at a spa for a little while." He said with a smile, "My treat." He added, wondering if he could entice her away from the place with a little rest and relaxation, although who in their right mind would want to go with her?
