The pair were bakers and that was all there was to it. Their daughter would grow up to be a baker, and when they died she would take over the family shop, that was always the plan, but as we all know, plans never go the way they're supposed to. At the age of two, Genevieve lost her mother. She died during childbirth, delivering he stillborn son. Genevieve remembers nothing of her mother, and only little scarps of her father. Her childhood was many, many lifetimes ago and there's no recalling their names, their faces or how they sounded, she only has the memory of what it felt like to be with her father, and the smells of certain baked foods often brings back those memories. Genevieve was a muggleborn witch, he father was approached by a strange woman claiming to be able to help Gen with a special education. Her father, whatever he was called, agreed even though it would mean less help in his shop. Gen remembers her father's sacrifice but there aren't really any emotions to go along with the knowledge of what happened at the time. Genevieve was sent to Hogwarts. She travelled there by carriage and it took five days. She had her trunk all packed with the strangest school supplies and she wore clothes she was certain her father could not afford. She took part in the strangest ritual and a hat spoke to her, placing her in a house called Slytherin. Genevieve was not welcomed. She was a muggleborn in the house of the pure. Her life at Hogwarts was miserable, the magic didn't really make up for that. The summer holidays were a welcome reprieve from the torture of Hogwarts. Over the years she would spend her summers with the local children her age, growing close to a boy name Thomas. He was handsome and taken by her beauty. He grew up to be a guard at the castle, protecting royalty. After her graduation Gen would visit Thomas, bringing him and the other guards baked goods after she was done delivering to the castle, it was on one of those visits she was spotted by an arrogant lord. The arrogant Lord made his desires known to Genevieve and she let it known that she was fond of another. The Lord was not accepting of her wishes and tried to force himself upon her. Genevieve used her magic, knocking him out and ran away. The following day her Thomas was killed and the Lord had her brought to him, shackled but unharmed. The Lord told all that she had thrown herself at him and that he had refused, only for her to turn violent, but he was a forgiving Lord and that he would wed her to save her honour. The wedding was rushed through and Genevieve had no choice, the Lord was threatening her father, having guards stationed outside his bakery, turning people away, destroying all he had. If she refused this Lord then her father would die. Genevieve married the wealthy Lord and moved to his stately home. Her father was left alone once she became a Lady. She would write to him and would send her owl with her notes, not trusting anyone to deliver her messages for she knew the influence the Lord, her now husband, held. It wasn't long before the news that Genevieve was pregnant sprang forth. She'd tried to hide it but her maid knew all too well and held no loyalties to Gen, only the vial Lord. It was then that Mary came into her life. Gen was watched around the clock. The days were arduous and if she didn't eat, the Lord would hear about it and food would be forced into her stomach, thankfully Mary was there to hold her hair back in the evenings as she wretched up her guts. Mary seemed to have a soft spot for Gen and Gen appreciated the friendly ear that Mary offered. At three months pregnant Gen could no longer stand her life. She had decided she would rather die than be subjected to this and so she used her wand which she kept hidden away, and knocked out her maid. She took off out of her room, stunning anyone that came into sight and wiping their memories. She made her way to the herb garden where she found what she had needed. It was there that Mary stood over her. It was as though the second darkness had fallen, Mary was in her shadow, urging her not to do what she was planning, even though Gen had never mentioned what she intended the herbs for. Mary talked Gen in returning to her room and put Gen to bed, revealing herself gifted in the magical arts by giving Gen a potion to help her sleep. The rest of Gen's pregnancy was like a dream. Mary would give Gen potions in the evenings to help her sleep and potions for the morning to help her get through the day, to keep it as euphoric as possible. Gen became a docile wife, accompanying her husband when he needed her for appearances sake, otherwise she stayed at home in their manor, existing in her rooms, occasionally beckons to the dining room to eat with her husband. She never gave a second thought to her wand, never tried anything else again while she was pregnant, and then she gave birth. Her darling son was born, her sweet Thomas, named for her murdered love. Even though she had given birth, Gen was still watched around the clock. Mary gave her less potions and it felt as though Gen was waking up from a deliriously happy dream. Her mood was still elevated but she knew that she wasn't happy, she did have her son, although she was only allowed to see him when it was deemed appropriate. Gen was a prisoner. Her son was beautiful and healthy and she was a husk of a human. She came upon her wand by chance when Thomas was seven months old and she kept it hidden away for when she would need it. She was going to escape, she was going to take her son and she was going to leave. Thomas was almost a year old by the time Gen felt it appropriate to try an escape. Much like last time she knocked out her made and anyone else that came her way, only she headed for her sons nursery where she was jumped from behind. The was a scuffle between herself and the guard that had heard her coming and it resulted in her death. A sword accidentally pierced through Gen's abdomen, as her son screamed in his cot from the commotion. He was the last thing she saw before the darkness took over. Genevieve was dead. Her husband had her buried and the guard that killed her was hanged. It was a while before Genevieve opened her eyes to absolute darkness and confusion. Her nails scrapped at her coffin before she started punching. Her fists broke through the wood and dirt came falling down all around her. She struggled but she got up and pushed her way through the damp earth, the taste choking her until she finally emerged from her grave, the sun below the horizon but only just. She looked around the snowy scene and saw Mary who wearily smiled and said "Took you long enough." Mary explained that she wasn't just a witch but that she was a vampire, she explained to Gen that she had died trying to escape the manor with her son. Mary had been due to start work when she heard the commotion from the nursery and saw what had happened. Mary had taken Gen, fed her blood and prayed that Gen would pull through. Mary explained that she had almost given up hope that Gen would pull through the coffin but there she was, alive and well. Well, sort of. Gen could hear no more of Mary's tales, she could hear heartbeats not too far away. She looked to see the manor. She'd been buried on the grounds of her prison. It didn't take Gen long to reach her former home and there she tore through every staff member she could find. Guards, maids, cooks, servants, they were all piles of flesh, blood, and bone by the time she was through with them. Then it was time for her husband, her Lord. He cowered from her, swung a sword in her direction and promised her father would hang for this. She ripped his throat out and showed it to him, dropping it to the floor as his body thudded. Her alert eyes looked about, her ears listened out. There was one heartbeat remaining, the sweetest little heartbeat she could ever possibly imagine. Gen made her way to her sons room where he was sleeping. He was an angel, and now that her husband was dead, he was the new Lord. It was hard work but Gen moved swiftly. She sent an owl to her father to come at once and cleaned the home. Her son's manor deserved to be spotless. For days she stayed inside the home, playing with Thomas, revelling in his giggles. She was going to miss this, she wasn't going to be able to watch him grow like she had wanted, but she could check in on him now and again, when it was safe to do so. She had her father become her sons ward for there was no one else in the world that she trusted more than her own father. She gave him the deeds to the lands to look after and to manage for her son and a day later, come nightfall, Gen was gone. For months Gen travelled at night with no place in mind. She just went wherever the carriages she'd jump on to would take her. Her owl that she'd left her father always found her with updates of how Thomas was doing. He showed no signs of magic but Gen held hope that he would be a magical child. With a magical parent he would be considered a half-blood which would make his time at Hogwarts easier than her own, but by the time he was 12 and had no letter, Gen knew that her son was mortal, and that was okay. Gen visited her son and father over the years. He always knew who she was and her father raised him well. Thomas was a kindly gentleman with bountiful lands. His people were happier than they had ever been and Gen could not have been more proud. Her son and his mortal life was beautiful, although bittersweet. At the age of 24 he married, at 26 he had a son. At 29 he had another son and a daughter. At 34 he had another daughter and her father passed away. Thomas had his own owl by then that would often find her and he informed her of her father's passing. Gen travelled from Eastern Europe to visit her father's grave and to see her son and his wonderful family. It was then that her Thomas commented about her youthful appearance. He looked older than her and yet she was twenty years his senior, how was that possible? She told him lie after lie about all the different places she'd visited and how they had all kinds of tonics for youthful skin, but her occasional visits, that were always a secret to everyone but the family, the staff knew her as an aunt by a different name, and what was more there was a grave on the grounds with her name on it and a date of death that was nearly as old as he was. Gen never spoke to Thomas about her life or what she did, or what she'd been through. Her presence was all that she could give to him and even then it wasn't safe for her to visit too often. She missed her son and seeing him become an old man was heart warming and heart breaking. Her grandchildren all grew up too and eventually her Thomas was laid to rest. She contemplated giving him eternity, but was not something she wanted to curse her son with, he had a happy life and she couldn't bring herself to curse him to the shadows, to watching his own children grow old while he could not. He died surrounded by his family, his children, wife and own grandchildren. Gen was there too, caring for him every night in his sickness, and even an old friend, Mary, showed up. After the funeral, an event that was held in the evening for Gen's aversion to the sun, She and Mary talked and Mary confessed that she was not just Gen's sire, but she was actually Gen's mother. She had almost died in childbirth and a friend from her former life as a witch turned her in a moment of panic. She was announced dead to Harold and when she raised she disappeared. She came back, keeping an eye on Gen and helped her through her pregnancy because she knew that id Gen had taken those herbs that night in the garden, and if she had killed her child, and possibly herself, then her father would also have been killed, and that was not something Mary could live with. Perhaps it was suddenly having a mother, or perhaps it was the manipulation, but Gen disappeared for a long while. She started making vampires carelessly or draining victims and leaving them in the streets, she started staying up as close to the dawn as was possible. She would track werewolf on a full moon and kill them, she would do anything for the challenge. Part of her wanted to just die. She was reckless, until she met Thomas. Not either of her Thomases, another, but he looked so remarkably like he murdered lover that he gave Gen a moment to pause. She danced his way, they had a remarkable evening together and then she turned him. It was one of her biggest regrets. She wanted to spend eternity with him, but by the time she sobered up, she knew he wasn't like her Thomas and she fled, leaving him to defend for himself. Gen wasn't completely reckless, she stopped her self-destructive behaviour and started following Thomas, or Tam as he preferred to be called. She kept her distance and once he was adjusted to his new life, she left, leaving him to his new life, he didn't need her. She still swings by every now and then, checking in on him, but she never shows her face, she sticks to the shadows, with over 700 years of existence, Gen has learnt to hide in plain sight, but perhaps for no longer, but while she has learnt a lot of things she has forgotten more. Her family name, her married name, the way her son sounded, the way he looked, her life is forgotten. She still follows her descendants, she knows their family name these days, but there's no telling how they will evolve now, but she will always keep tabs on them. They're a magical family which makes her happy, but it took them a while to find their magic again, she suspects the blood of her husband, her captor, was potent and crushed any magical ability, but the world and all its magics are theirs to enjoy now, and the night is her world.
