narcissa alexia malfoy
PERSONALITY Boggart: If faced with a boggart, Narcissa would see a pile of blood, which signifies her miscarriages and current inability to get pregnant. Mirror of Erised: If Narcissa looked into the Mirror of Erised, she would see herself as a mother and her husband would be safe. Patronus: Swan - Narcissa is able to conjure a patronus, though not many people know it. She had struggled with producing one lately because of problems explained in her history. However, when she does want to produce one, she thinks about her wedding day. Growing up, Narcissa was a girlie-girl. She loved to dress up and attend fancy galas. She learnt at a young age what a woman was meant to do in the household and how she was meant to present herself. She latched on quickly to these rules, striving even as a small child to impress her parents. As an adult, Narcissa still enjoys fancy dress and galas. She likes to take the time getting ready to look her best because she knows that no matter what, she's going to impress someone. The vain side of Narcissa, the side that cares about wealth and looks and blood status, is what most often shows to the general public or those she doesn't trust (such as other Death Eaters.) If one were to dig a little deeper, it would be discovered that past her cold exterior, Narcissa has a heart. To her family members, she's very loving and caring. She would do absolutely anything possible to keep her husband and sister(s) safe. Narcissa's goal has been to protect her family. When she makes a goal, she'll do anything to reach it. She is a very determined witch. Unlike her mother before her, Narcissa likes it to be known that she's intelligent. She's not afraid to speak her mind about political affairs or challenge an opposing view. While Narcissa can be very outspoken, she also knows when to keep quiet. She knows what to say in bad situations or how to placate anger. The brave face is usually an act. Truthfully, she's scared that the Dark Lord might kill her husband or even her some day. She doesn't let him feel her fear, though. Narcissa is an Occlumens. She went to her father, who was skilled in the Dark Arts, and asked him to teach her. She has not told Lucius about it, afraid of how he might react. She did it to protect herself and her husband. HISTORY Mother: Druella Black (nee Rosier), age, pureblood Father: Cygnus Black, age, pureblood Siblings: Bellatrix Lestrange, 27, pureblood Andromeda Tonks, 26, pureblood, estranged Partners: Lucius Malfoy, 24, pureblood, husband Others: Rodolphus Lestrange, brother-in-law Ted Tonks, estranged brother-in-law "Without knowing what I am and why I am here, life is impossible." It probably comes as no surprise that Narcissa is not a common name. The name has a couple of meanings, however the first one is the most preferable meaning. A flower. The narcissus flower is a primarily spring-blooming perennial and are usually white or yellow in color, but can also be a deep orange. There are a few theories as to how the flower itself was named and one of them was that a Roman philosopher who was known as Pliny the Elder wrote that the flower that narcotic properties and narcotics “numb”. Which brings us to our next explanation: the Greek myth of Narcissus. He was a man who saw his reflection in a pond, fell in love with it and starved to death. Thus with his story comes all of the definitions and stereotypes of narcissism and so on. As for her middle name, Alexia, it's much less complicated. One of the first members of the Black family was called Alexia. It means helper or defender. Her maiden name, Black, has several meanings and they shan't all be listed. But one may think of the color or how one prefers to drink one's tea or the (figurative) color of one's heart. Narcissa's married name is Malfoy, which is French, and roughly translates to "bad faith". If one did not know Cygnus and Druella Black, there would probably be some confusion in regards to Narcissa's fair features. It should be stated that the Blacks tend to have dark features – black or dark brown hair, and very dark eyes. Narcissa's father fell into this category, as did her two older sisters. However, her father married a Frenchwoman who was much more fair. She, in turn, sported blonde hair and blue eyes. Narcissa is a mix of Rosier and Black. Whilst she has her mother's hair and eyes, it is the Black physical features that make up the rest of her. She has high cheekbones and hollow cheeks. As for her jaw, it's almost a hybrid between a heart-shaped jaw and a square jaw. There's definition to it and she could probably manage to pull off a fairly decent intimidating look to use on a select few. There are absolutely no scars or piercings on her face. Her ears, however, are pierced. She doesn't have any tattoos. She could have inherited her height from either the Blacks or the Rosiers. Most of the family members on either side are relatively tall. One would probably assume that Narcissa is dainty and could easily break, like china. That's not the case. She may not have a lot of flesh, but she's strong and she can hold her own when needed. "The sole meaning of life is to serve humanity." December 8th, 1956 was a Saturday. It was a beautiful day in England, with no threat of a winter storm. Druella Black (nee Rosier) found herself in absolute pain and suffering, in a secluded room at the manor she resided in with her husband and two young girls. She was in labor for the third time, though it was certainly the most trouble she had had delivering. The baby inside of her was stubborn, wanting to come out and then deciding that no, now was not the time. After a few hours, Druella was finally ready to push. And push she did. Her youngest child was welcomed into the harsh, cold world thirty minutes later. When she was told that her child was a girl, Druella felt a little disappointed. But the moment she had the small being in her arms, all negative feelings left her body. The babe was precious with her wisps of blonde locks and those beautiful blue eyes.... Druella hoped beyond all hope that this child would take after her and her fair features. When Cygnus heard that he had yet another girl, he lost all hope that his wife would provide him with an heir. Taking an immediate disinterest in the newborn, he told his wife to name the girl. But given no instruction to follow that rule, Druella boldly broke Black tradition and named her daughter after her favorite flower, the daffodil. Narcissa. As for her middle name, Druella picked one from a relative on Cygnus's side (so he hopefully wouldn't complain too much.) She picked the name Alexia because not only was it pretty, but it also had a strong meaning – defender of men. Who knew what this child might do someday. When Cygnus heard his daughter's name for the first time, he pulled a face and asked why she (Druella) hadn't picked Meissa. But just as quickly as Druella fell in love with her new daughter, she fell out of love. She had two other children and taking care of a baby really was not how she wanted to spend her day. Besides, she didn't really know the first thing about caring for a baby. The older children were easier. And so Narcissa, like her sisters, went off into the hands of the governess at the Black Manor. It is with the guidance of her governess and two older sisters that Narcissa learned of the world around her. When Narcissa was ten months old, she said her first word. It was a chilly night in December and the Blacks had gathered together for a nice family dinner. Narcissa was minding her own business, happily making noises and entertaining herself. She spotted her middle sister and squealed loudly; she also bounced in spot and clapped her hands, the grin on her face letting it be known that she was happy to see her sister. Narcissa then reached out for Andromeda, her fists opening and closing in a grabbing manner. Her mouth was moving and she was making more sounds, then a “me” slipped out. The family stopped talking and directed their attention to the young girl, who was concentrating on getting her sister's attention. Eventually, after a few more times, Narcissa managed to say what she had originally intended: Meda. At the age of two, Narcissa experienced her first bout of magic. She was playing outside with her older sisters after a recent snowfall. She teetered after them, though her little legs had some trouble keeping up with their longer ones. At one point, exhausted from all of the fun she was having, Narcissa promptly sat down in the snow. Her governess was about to scoop her up to bring her inside when Narcissa attempted to throw snow at her. The snow, however, turned into glitter. The little girl laughed and laughed. The rest of Narcissa's childhood was spent learning proper etiquette with her older sisters, as well as learning what was expected of her as a member of the Most Ancient and Noble House of Black. "All happy families resemble one another, each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." In 1961, there was an addition to the Black family. Aunt Walburga, who was a rather scary woman to five-year-old Narcissa, gave birth to a baby. Later, the girls found out that the baby was a boy. He was the next heir to the Black family. He was named Sirius. They visited Grimmald Place, but Narcissa didn't see the little boy. Aunt Walburga was around, for starters (and she seemed to have it out for her brother's children, especially the youngest), and Bella was holding her hostage in her lap. Narcissa struggled in her sister's arms, wanting to see their new cousin, but one look from Aunt Walburga and she remained perfectly still until it was time to go home. Bellatrix didn't seem very enthused about having a baby boy cousin. Narcissa wondered if it was because they weren't as much fun to play with. Whatever the reason, it seemed to disappear over time. Eventually, Bella decided that having a boy cousin wasn't so bad after all. Narcissa's mind wasn't changed so easily, however. She enjoyed having a cousin, but Bella's initial reaction had made her wary and she was reluctant to warm up to Sirius too quickly. When Narcissa was 7, Bellatrix went off to Hogwarts. The blonde was sad to see her sister leave, but she covered her emotions well like she had been taught. It was only one short year later that Andromeda went off to Hogwarts as well. Narcissa was 8 and had begged her middle sister not to go. She knew that that was impossible, but the week leading up to Andromeda's departure, she cried and cried. Cygnus hollered at her, but didn't lay a hand on her, and that only made Narcissa even more scared to be left at home alone without either sister. But it wasn't only that; Narcissa didn't want to be separated from either of her sisters. They were her best friends. Who was she supposed to play with? Whose bed was she supposed to sneak into during a thunderstorm or whenever she didn't want to be alone? Who was she supposed to talk to late at night into the wee hours of the morning about her future or her dreams? She was going to be alone and that scared her more than anything else. The next three years seemed to pass achingly slow. When Narcissa received her Hogwarts letter, she was ecstatic! She would finally learn magic and be reunited with her sisters! The Sorting Ceremony was a little nerve-wrecking. She was sorted into Slytherin just like her sisters before her, something she was very proud of. She met many future Death Eaters her first night there. Some she knew better than others, as they had grown up around each other. Throughout her years at Hogwarts, Narcissa was a very bright witch. She took her studies seriously; she wanted to make her family proud. Narcissa's fifth year was not one she would prefer to remember, however, it's one she can't forget. Both of her sisters had already graduated. Cissy was determined to make this year better than the rest - but now both of her sisters were acting strange. Andy was keeping secrets (Narcissa just knew she was) and Cissy feared that she was following in Bella's footsteps. (She had found out about her older sister's activities the previous summer, but pretended she didn't know for her family's sake.) Cissy was afraid to approach Andromeda about the possible Death Eater activity - her middle sister was so sweet after all, there was no way she was a Death Eater and even interested in becoming one. But then why the suspicious behavior? Eventually, it all came out: Andromeda was seeing a muggleborn by the name of Ted. And, when push came to shove, she chose the boy over her own family. Narcissa was never quite the same again. The decision hurt no matter how badly Narcissa tried to tell herself it didn't bother her. She should have known that things at Hogwarts wouldn't be pretty, either. Of course the other pureblood families had heard about the “mudblood lover”. Almost immediately following her return to the school, Narcissa found herself at the center of the pureblood bullying. They teased her and whispered about her family, throwing her fake-friendly looks across the room. She ignored them the best she could, but it was difficult. She still cried herself to sleep at night for weeks after. She slipped into a habit of disordered eating, refusing to eat for a while (the longest she went was one and a half days) and then binging on everything in sight until she made herself sick. This continued for years to come, though Narcissa hid it well and at one point went without food for 3 days before passing out during Potions one afternoon. She learned to make it look like she ate a lot, when in reality she barely ate anything and what she did eat, she forced back up. The year eventually came to a close. Upon arriving to the manor, Narcissa slept for the next fifteen hours. She didn't socialize much that summer and she heard the murmurings from her family that no one wanted to court the youngest Black daughter. She couldn't bring herself to care much, though. It was late in the summer holiday when Narcissa received her OWL exam results. She barely passed most of her subjects, which displeased her parents. It was unacceptable behavior, they told her. And so they sought a tutor for their youngest daughter, to begin revising her studies before the school year even began. "There is no greatness where there is no simplicity, goodness and truth." When Narcissa began to her sixth year of Hogwarts, her younger cousin, Sirius, also began his first year. Being that he was family, she felt responsible for him and his actions. (Her aunt and uncle would not expect anything less from her. It was her duty, on top of Prefect duties and schoolwork, to keep an eye on Sirius.) Such a task turned out more difficult than Narcissa had originally intended. That was because Sirius, who was quite the troublemaker at home and often gave his parents lip, was sorted into Gryffindor house rather than Slytherin. Needless to say, when the hat shouted out “GRYFFINDOR!”, Narcissa nearly screamed. She almost jumped up to protest and wanted to drag her cousin to the Slytherin table, which was where he belonged; but she was frozen in place. Of course this would happen when she's meant to be in charge of Sirius. Nothing could ever go as planned with him, could it? No. After the Sorting Ceremony and the feast, Narcissa tried to catch her cousin's attention. Whether Sirius was deliberating ignoring her or not, she did not know. But he didn't even glance her way when she shouted for him as the students piled out of the Great Hall. She should have known that that wasn't a good sign, but part of her thought that she could still get through to her cousin. The following day, both Narcissa and Sirius received a letter from Walburga and Orion. Sirius got his first Howler, though he grinned and laughed through it all; while Narcissa got a strongly worded letter, in which her aunt and uncle didn't hold back their disappointment in her. She hadn't had any control over the Sorting Hat, but that didn't make her feel any less guilty. Aunt Walburga was going to hate her more than she already did. As if the stress from her family members wasn't enough, Narcissa also had Lucius Malfoy doing his best to woo her while simultaneously tutoring her. She no longer rolled her eyes and raised a brow at some of the things he said; in fact, she blushed. And she hated herself for it. She was giving him a reaction that only fueled him more. Narcissa wanted to hate Lucius, but she couldn't bring herself to. He was cocky and arrogant and she did not want to give into his wishes. She pushed him off for as long as possible, but they were both Prefects and therefore shared a bathroom.... Sometimes, things didn't go as planned. Narcissa also met Severus Snape that year, whom Lucius had taken a liking to. Severus was, unfortunately, the prey of Sirius and his group of friends. She didn't know the young Slytherin all that well (after all, he spent a lot of time with Lucius, which was something she wasn't interested in doing), but she did know that Sirius was making a fool of himself and their family. He wasn't taking anything seriously, and his parents were finding ways to blame her for his actions. One morning, Narcissa caught Sirius by himself and she forced him to speak with her. When he gave her his attitude, she twisted and tugged on his ear, telling him to stop with his nonsense. He didn't. The first half of the year drew to a close with the Christmas holidays. Narcissa dreaded going home, having to face her aunt and uncle. Sirius was as naughty and as bold as ever; he didn't listen to his cousin at all. Narcissa managed to sneak away on the platform before her aunt and uncle found her, though she knew that she would have to face them eventually. She displayed no emotion when receiving a tongue-lashing from them, which her father put to an end before it got too intense. For once, Narcissa was grateful for him. When she returned to school, she attempted to keep herself occupied with her studies, Prefect duties and... Lucius. During the next few months, Narcissa finally allowed herself to be truthful about her feelings for Lucius. He was capable of figuring her out so quickly – too quickly for her liking, as most people didn't try to reach through her icy exterior and find out what was beneath. Narcissa was different with Lucius – happier, calmer... and he always kept her on her toes! (And vice versa.) He became her best friend quickly and that was how she knew that they would last and could make it through anything. She trusted him, plain and simple, and he gave her strength when she needed it most. They kissed for the first time just before they parted ways on the train platform for the summer holidays. They kept in touch during the summer, doing their best to see each other at least three times a week. The night before Narcissa went back to Hogwarts for her seventh and final year, Lucius came over to have dinner with her parents and her. On the train ride to Hogwarts, Narcissa sat by herself, purposefully forgetting to meet with other Prefects. (She hadn't made Head Girl, which turned out to be a bigger relief than a disappointment.) She still didn't trust any of the 'friends' she'd had before Andromeda shamed their family. She didn't mind it so much; she spent the entire ride writing letters. She wrote several to Andromeda, as if her sister was will in touch with her. Narcissa did not send them; she stuffed them into the bottom of her trunk when she got to her dorm in the castle. She did send the letter that she had written to Lucius, expressing in a clingy fashion that she already missed him and school would not be the same without him. Like the previous year, Narcissa had trouble with her magic. She had to retake her Apparition exam, as the one time she splinched herself had been during the exam. Luckily, she managed to pass time time around. She kept in regular contact with Lucius, telling him how bored she was with her lessons because there wasn't enough of a challenge (not that she was even trying in them anymore) and that Sirius was being a miscreant. When Hogsmeade trips started, there wasn't one that Lucius missed. Seeing her boyfriend for a few hours, every few weeks, was better than not seeing him until the holidays. While they did stroll around to get some fresh air, Narcissa usually got cold fairly quickly and they had to find shelter. They usually ended up in a secluded corner of The Three Broomsticks, where Narcissa would cuddle up to Lucius's side to warm up. There was also a fair amount of snogging that took place. The Christmas holidays seemed to be come slowly this year, much to Narcissa's discontent. But, alas, the holidays came and she couldn't get out of the castle fast enough. In 1973, Narcissa received a piece of news that would send her five steps back. She was an aunt. Her estranged sister, Andromeda, had given birth to a baby girl. It was like a slap in the face. Narcissa had grieved for her sister since the day she left, and Andromeda had moved on without a care in the world. Instantly, Narcissa hated the new baby – her filthy, disgusting niece. Now there was never chance that she might get to see her sister someday. The baby had taken Andromeda away for good. In addition to Narcissa's state of mind taking a toll on her coursework, it was also wrecking havoc with her magic. Her magic was weaker – so much weaker. She managed to splinch herself during Apparition lessons because of it (which was the one and only time she ever did so!) Her wand began to fight her, refusing to spew out a spell or making the spell too powerful. It was frustrating, which only upset Narcissa more and made her magic worse. It didn't help matters that Narcissa was still in the grips of an eating disorder. She didn't do as well on her NEWTs as she should have, but at least she managed to graduate from Hogwarts. Now, what would she do for the rest of her life? "The two most powerful warriors are patience and time." Narcissa improved as she began to fall more in love with Lucius. She enjoyed her time with him and even liked to spend time at the Malfoy Manor whilst he was working or out. She tried not to seem suffocating, though, for fear of pushing him away. Even after she began to function normally and gained most of her weight back, Narcissa remained cold and aloof. She had to protect herself somehow from the cruelty of the world, including those that lie within her family. Her trust issues also stemmed from Andromeda’s departure. When she was nineteen, she received a marriage proposal from Lucius. Of course, she accepted straight away. All of her attention and focus went into planning the wedding. It was a grandiose event that took place about one year after their engagement. Shortly after they were married and once they’d returned back to Wiltshire after their honeymoon, Narcissa discovered she was pregnant. However, she miscarried a few weeks later. She was ashamed, but heard that it happened to lots of women. So she continued to try for another baby. Months passed before she was pregnant again. And, again, she miscarried. Narcissa was devastated, but continued to try for another child. She and Lucius had been unsuccessful at getting pregnant, until last year. It was in the autumn on 1978 when Narcissa finally fell pregnant again. However, it was not meant to be. During a routine check-up, it was discovered that the baby was no longer alive. The healers were forced to induce labor. Since then, Narcissa has been beside herself. To make things worse, there is a rumor going around that Lucius will be divorcing his wife because of her inability to get pregnant. Narcissa has not approached him about the gossip. She hopes that it isn't true, though she can't blam him if it is. "All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love."
