Skin colour and sexual orientation have never really been a problem in the magical world but that doesn't mean it's a perfect utopia, far from it. Josie, had never really known what an ugly place the world was until she discovered that her parents love was frowned upon. She was only 5 years of age, the youngest of her three siblings, but she knew from her parents reactions and from her sisters reactions, that love was not always celebrated, which damaged her heart and soul, but because of the judgement she saw her parents face, Josie grew up looking to the stars, finding the tales of love and loss a wonder, and much preferred it over the reality. That love of mythology grew and she soon found herself obsessed with celestial phenomenons and the wonders that space had to offer. At eleven years of age, just like her sisters, Josie was sent an invitation to both Beauxbatons and Hogwarts. Her sisters had both attended Beauxbatons which was situated in their home country of France, but Josie chose her father's old school, picking Hogwarts. She was sorted into Gryffindor where she found a comfortable home. Her sisters would write to her and tell her she belonged at Beauxbatons, but her heart was settled at Hogwarts, she loved it. The cold weather, the old stone castle, her friends and the lessons. She knew she'd like Beauxbatons, but something about the cold Scottish highlands made her feel comfortable and home. The wrapping up in woolly jumpers, the warm fires, the hot chocolates. It was perfect. Every Christmas and summer Josie went home for the holidays. She would gush about her school and tire her family out with stories of her friends, but she couldn't wait to be back. It was a week after her graduation, a time when all her family had come to the UK to stay with her for a while for a summer holiday, that her father took her for a trip to Scotland. It was just the two of them, a beautiful father-daughter day in the highlands when her father lead her to a dilapidate building, one she knew from a single glance was an observatory. He told her the story of how it came to be, how her ancestors in the 1850s had built it themselves and observed the night sky. Josie was enamoured and her father took her on a tour. It was dusty and unused but Josie had visions for it, she could see in her minds eye just exactly how it should look, what it should be. She eagerly explored from room to room, calling out to her father and giving him every detail of her vision. Josie was having the best time of her life and then it got better, her father took her hands, the warmest, most comforting smile on his face, and he placed the keys in her hands, with a look of totally serenity he said, "It's yours. Bring your visions to life." It was the absolute happiest day of her life. It took a couple of years but it was finally a place that Josie could call home. It was a place of work but she had a small apartment for herself inside, too. It's still a work in progress, but it's open to the public. She has benefactors that donate money to help keep the observatory open. People come from all over to observe the wonders of the universe through her magically enhanced telescopes. An unexpected piece of news that broke her heart, was that her father passed away in February of 1980. Josie travelled back to France to be with her family for a while. It was beautiful to be back for an extended period of time, but she did miss her foggy highland home and when she returned, she started working on her book that she's dedicating to her father.
