HISTORY Mother: Janet Finkle, halfblood, disowned Father: Donald Murphy, muggle, stranger Siblings: Probably. Who knows? Partners: Please don't. Others: The best mates from school. More like family than actual family ever were. Boggart: Her mum. She would slap Tana across the face and try to drag her back to the family home by her hair. Mirror of Erised: To belong. To actually belong somewhere, with someone, that's all she's ever really wanted. Patronus: Phoenix - Tana has so many shitty memories that finding a strong happy one was hard. She eventually discovered that the day she freed herself from her mother was a strong enough memory to produce a patronus, and it takes the form of a phoenix. Born Tana Jane Murphy, to a drunk of a mother and an abusive muggle father that left when she was a week old, Tana was never really welcomed into the world. Her mother never wanted kids, and her dad buggered off, never to be seen again, leaving Janet with the task of raising a baby alone. She wasn't enthused about it at all, and she drank heavily to cope with the burden. Little Tana practically raised herself. She naturally became quite tough, self-sufficient, and emotionally closed off. She hated her mother. She didn't understand how other kids looked at their parents like they were gods. Tana looked at her drunken mother with a scowl and nothing in her heart but resentment and contempt. Tana played with the kids in her neighbourhood, all rough families in the arsehole of a town, but she could hold her own. Her mum didn't much care where she was, and she went home in time for bed every day, making herself a sandwich for tea and finding her mum passed out on the couch most days. When she was old enough she got a letter from Hogwarts, inviting her to go, and Tana's mum threw it on the side table in the living room and told her she couldn't afford to go. Where was she going to get the money to pay for that big list of supplies? Well, Tana stole the money. She waited til her mum was asleep and raided her purse, stealing all of her alcohol money and hiding it away. She messed up the house so that it looked like someone had broken in - though to be fair, it was already a dump - and her mum thought some scally from the estate had nicked their stuff. They didn't live far from Diagon Alley. Tana knew how to get there on her own, and she took herself shopping a few days before school was due to start, her mum's drink money stuffed in her pocket. She got herself books and robes, all the cheapest stuff she could find, a wand, and she even had spare money for a kitten, which she hid in her bedroom for two days successfully, her mum too catatonic to notice. She packed her bags the night before she was due at King's Cross station, and she toddled off in the early hours of the morning with her stuff, her mum still snoring in bed while Tana boarded the Hogwarts Express and stuck a middle finger up at her shithead parent. She was sorted into Gryffindor, bold, brave, fearless, and wrote a short letter to her mum the first night, telling her where she was and that she would be home in the holidays. She didn't get a reply. She also didn't return home on the holidays, opting to stay at the castle rather than face her mum. She had made friends there, people who weren't from the arse end of the universe, people who didn't know where she came from and what her family was like. Tana had a bit of a reputation as being a bit wild, and a bit naughty. She was always up for anything, a good time girl, a rebel, fun, crazy. Damaged. She joined the Quidditch team as a Chaser in her second year, but was kicked off the team in her fourth despite her huge talent on a broom. She was caught smoking with a couple of boys in the Prefect's bathroom. She wasn't a Prefect. Between that and the other issues she had with teachers (namely speaking out of turn in class, calling Professors out when they were abusing their power, handing homework in late, chatting in class, causing a food fight in the Great Hall... I could go on) she ended up being told that she couldn't play Quidditch any more. That stung. Tana loved being on a broom. She loved the exhilaration of flying, the feeling of being part of a team that worked well together, but most of all, she loved the sheer mathematics of brooms themselves. How did they work? How did they get just the right balance and weight to make them fly faster, turn quicker, respond better? She loved the ins and outs of brooms, themselves, and so when she graduated, she decided that she wanted to make brooms, study them, perfect them, sell her designs to huge broomstick manufacturers. And that's just what she did. She also ditched her mother, never going home after graduation, but getting her own little flat that she shared with a weird woman who thought she was psychic. She changed her name, not wanting to be Murphy, carrying the name of a man she didn't even know. So, rebelliously, as always, she became Tana Zartavious, just because she could, and fuck anyone who didn't like it. She married a couple of times over the years, though she struggles to figure out how to make relationships work. She thinks it miiiight be because she's never witnessed a healthy relationship firsthand, so has no clue what they're supposed to be like. Some of her best friends are married and happy, with kids and nice houses and all that cushy stuff. Tana wouldn't say no to that, but she can't seem to find the right man or woman to handle her more exuberant ways. So now she's in her early thirties, a successful Broomologist with a string of very high profile designs sold to major broom companies, earning her a pretty wage to pay for the nice home she owns. She hasn't seen her mother in over a decade and thinks she's probably dead but can't bring herself to check. And that's about it for now.
