She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
Dressed in her most modest attire, a double-breasted suit dress that barely covered her knickers, Dora was regretting ever agreeing to looking for a new job. The carpet here clashed horridly with her skin tone and the drab color on the walls made her sad. Or perhaps it was the thought of having to “grow up” that brought on said emotion. There were plenty of grown ups who worked at bars and really, aside from a bit of trouble she’d been having lately, it was one of the few things Dora knew for a fact she was a good at. Mixing cocktails and sex; one of those things she wasn’t allowed to put on her resume so it was a rather sparse sheet of parchment. She was only taking the interview because she’d decided it might be worth it if there were as many hot, single wizards as Jovi suggested there were working at the Ministry of Magic. Thus far, she’d not been exaggerating. She spoke with a gorgeous witch at the reception desk, possibly the one who was getting sacked and didn’t know it yet and was directed to an office on the third floor. Or at least she’d thought she’d been told it was the third floor. Perhaps it was fourth. Dora hadn’t really been paying attention as much as she was silently and yet not so subtly flirting with a sexy looking wizard handing some tubby bloke a stack of disheveled papers. Sexy paper bloke was gone now, and Dora was left wandering the halls of the third floor; confused expression on her face, skimpy resume in hand, trying to find where she belonged.

Pieces of parchment fluttered around everywhere in the Ministry. They zoomed over head as letters between departments had to get there somehow, and they may as well use magic rather than employ a lad to run around all over the place delivering letters. They weren't muggles, after all, so it was best to use their gifts. One such letter zoomed from the atrium to the elevator and zipped through the halls once it was off the lift. Mim looked up to see the parchment aeroplane zip into the make-shift office that she had. It was usually a storage room but Mim needed somewhere to conduct interviews. Florentine was manning the atrium at the moment but as soon as her job could be filled, she'd be gone from the Ministry. See, Florentine, the beautifully tanned maid from somewhere in the countryside, was a muggleborn. Her mother was a muggle, her father was a muggle, and under new Ministry guidelines she was going to be taken to Azkaban ... or killed. But not before Mim could find someone to take her place. These plans had been in the works for a few months, but it wasn't until everything d been announced that they were able to start replacing people. A few muggleborns were smarter than they looked and jumped ship as soon as they realised what was happening, but they'd be caught soon enough, in the meantime, Mim opened the parchment that told her her 10:15 was on the way up. Mim looked at her watch. She appreciated good punctuality and arriving early was certainly going to afford Miss Parkinson a few points. Mim took a moment to look over the information she had on Miss Parkinson. Single mother. Father deceased after some issues with investors. Brother deceased also. That was sad. Her family line could become extinct and if that was allowed to happen, then that would be a terrible, terrible blow for the Pureblooded community. Miss Parkinson was of the Parkinson Sacred 28 line and, as such, in Mim's eyes, that gave her another point above the rest of the competition.
Closing the file after finishing her scan of it, Mim placed it to the left of the pine desk. She had personal information on all of the candidates applying for the job and it didn't necessarily all come from within the Ministry. Mim wasn't just in charge of finding a replacement for her colleague and then training the replacement up, but she was also in charge of finding out information for various people applying for jobs withing the Ministry and as such, she needed to strengthen the Ministry from within, one employee at a time. Mim may just have been an atrium attendant, but her role from the perspective of the Death Eaters stretched far beyond just a lowly receptionist. She was Lord Voldemort's right handed woman. She reported back to him everything about what was occurring at the ministry, making sure that Dolohov was falling in line day in and day out. The second he put a toe out of line she would inform the Dark Lord and Dolohov would be called to answer before his master. So long as Wilbur Dolohov kept the ministry running in the direction of purity, Mim wouldn't have a problem with him, and neither would the Dark Lord. "Miss Parkinson?" Mim had left her desk and stepped out of the near empty room. It only held a desk, a chair for her some stationary and a chair for her interviewee. The walls were bare but at least the clutter had all been removed. "I'm Mimette Winters, I'm the one that will be interviewing you today." She said, offering her hand in a more formal greeting, "Shall we get started?" She asked, stepping aside and allowing space for Dora to walk in and take a seat. "Morning, Mimi." Jake Bulstrode said as he went past, with a wink. Had she not been with someone Mim would have rolled her eyes and given a derogatory scoff. "Hello, Jacob." She said, hoping he'd bugger off and not stare - never mind. Hopes were gone as he checked out Miss Parkinson from head to toe before giving her a nod and carrying on his way. Twit.

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
Certain she had taken a wrong turn somewhere, Dora stopped. Her eyes searched the plaques on the nearby doors but none gave them a clue as to where she was going. She wasn’t even certain what department she was interviewing for, technically. Just as she was about to give up and head back down to the atrium, intent on finding Sexy Paper Bloke or one of his more attractive colleagues and pulling him into the broom cupboard – just to make sure she’d not wasted a trip down here – she heard a woman calling her name. Dora turned and nodded. “Yes. Hullo.” Dora shook the woman’s hand, admiring her outfit and wondering if she’d be made to wear trousers were she given the job. Ms Winters looked lovely in her ensemble but Dora hated being that covered up. It would completely defeat the purpose of her potential employment here; to shag as many hot Ministry wizards as possible.
Dora stepped inside the tiny office, that sad feeling overwhelming her again. Did all their offices look like this? So drab and teensy? This might as well have been a storage cupboard for all the space it held, but Dora kept her thoughts on the woman’s office to herself. Instead, she looked over her shoulder as a man’s voice spoke and she smiled flirtatiously at the man who was clearly checking her out. Dora sat and crossed her legs, not bothering to pull down her already short skirt as it rode up on her thigh. Instead she winked at Jacob and smiled to herself as he departed. She fixed her skirt and turned toward the woman interviewing her. “My dog’s name is Mimi,” she said casually, feeling more comfortable now for some reason. “Well, actually it’s Mimosa but she answers to Mimi as well. She’s not as good a dresser as you are, though, so no worries there.” Perhaps she was feeling a little too confident, comparing her interviewer to a dog, but Dora was delightfully obtuse about the inadvertent insult she'd given.

Mim shut the door, resisting the urge to call Jacob back in order to slam it in his pathetic face. She took her seat opposite Dora, ready to get the interview started, although she wasn't quite sure about how to take Miss Parkinson's comment. Her dog? Well that was interesting. No one had ever compared Mim to a dog and lived to tell the tale, but this was work and she was somewhat certain that the comparison was not meant as any sort of insult, just nervous chatter from a girl that thought that the likes of Jacob Bulstrode were worth flirting with. She supposed that could go either way in the good vs. bad column she was keeping in her mind. On the one hand if someone like Dora were around to distract the drooling apes, then Mim and her co-works wouldn't have to deal with them as much, however it could give the neanderthals a reason to visit the attrium more frequently. Mim would leave that off the table, perhaps, after all Miss Parkinson was pureblooded and they were in desperate need of purebloods, especially those of one of the Sacred 28 families, just like Mim, although her surname hid her right to claim such a title, not that there was anything worth claiming it for, it wasn't as if you were handed a castle and all the gold you could imagine just because your blood was truly pure, although Mim would have rather liked that, and judging from what she knew about Dora, she'd probably not mind a little more gold to spend. "Let's jump straight to it, shall we." She smiled, "What sort of experiences do you have with reception work?" Mim looked across to Dora, quill in hand, ready to make notes on her parchment about the interviewee, hoping she'd not compare Mim to a dog again.

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
Dora straightened up in her seat as Mimi pulled their conversation back to her interview. One question in and already Dora was stumped. Aside from a bloke a few years back who had a thing for role-playing in the bedroom – naughty secretary and strict boss was a favorite and Dora enjoyed dressing up and transfiguring her hair to different colors and styles, the closest Dora had ever come to reception work was in asking the reception witch downstairs where her interview was to be held. She had only ever had a single job and that was bore out of pure nepotism and an instinctual knack for anything related to alcohol. “Well,” she started slowly, her confidence beginning to wane without a hot wizard to flirt with and bolster her ego, “I don’t have much experience per se. Not with reception work, but…” How in Merlin’s beard was she going to spin bartending into related fieldwork? “I’ve dealt with loads of people in my current position. All sorts, really.” She shrugged, chewing nervously on her lower lip for a quick moment before adding, “I’m quite friendly.”

Mim listened as Dora spoke and once she was done You could hear the nib of her quill scratching against the parchment. The silence was almost deafening but Mim didn't mind so much. It would be interesting to see how Dora handled it, though. "What are your primary responsibilities in your current role and how would they transfer to working in the Ministry atrium?" Mim looked up at Dora, wondering if it would be more of the same answer, just being a people person. Being a people person was important, but being able to multi-task well, being able to keep your cool in the face of idiots and being clear and concise were all also important. At least the girl was pureblood, sacred 28, Mim kept reminding herself.

Merlin, her quill was loud. Or perhaps it was just that the woman was so incredibly quiet. Dora didn't do quiet well. She had a habit of filling the silence one way or another but she was feeling incredibly uncomfortable at that very moment which was not conducive to typical Dora outlandishness. Dora fiddled with her fingers in her lap as she waited for the witch to finish scrawling down notes (honestly, she hadn't said that much, why was she writing so bloody much?!).
This was all supposed to just be fun and games. She was here because hot men were on offer, she hadn't expected the questioning to be so hard. Honestly, how difficult could it possibly be to work at the reception desk? There was probably a list of where all the departments were locate, so if anyone asked she could just give it a look and send them on their way. Did that really require such intense interrogation tactics? "Well I'm the Head barmaid," she started, giving herself a little promotion because she was the most senior staff in employment at the Starlight and also because she knew Fin would back her up if she asked him to. "So there's mixing drinks, taking orders - sometimes that involves making suggestions when people aren't quite sure what they want. Erm... handling the money, waitressing a bit. Sometimes I work the private booths and that's a lot more work because you're doing all the regular barkeep jobs but you're also having to be on all the time, you know?" Why would she know? Mimi probably never worked in the service industry in her entire life. By the look of her clothes, she was not a pathetic slouch like Dora, she probably has had her life together for years now whereas Dora was still hoping just to fail upwards. "I'm not sure how exactly that would transfer over to here... Perhaps if you could explain a bit more what the post entails? My cousin, Jovian Rowle, referred me and she works in the Department of Mysteries, so you know how that lot are at explaining things." Dora was simply talking out of her arse at this point, but she figured name dropping couldn't hurt any. And Jovi was a lot more likely to praise Dora should they follow up on her reference than if she'd mentioned she was connected to Aurelius Avery.

Things felt rather stagnant. The conversation was technically moving forward but it felt slower than a snail's pace. Mim liked that Dora was pureblooded, one of the sacred 28 to boot, but she didn't seem at all qualified for the position. Mim was going to put her down as a 'do not call back' but things took a turn and she seemed to become a little more engaging and possibly a little less nervous. Mim chuckled at her comment, "Yes, they seem to take their job title rather literally." Unspeakables' seemed to think that they were not required to explain anything to anyone. "It's quite a simple job, to be honest. It does require a few skills but nothing you won't already be familiar with. Mostly you'll be answering visitors' enquiries and directing people to the appropriate floors. Sorting out mail, sending it off to the appropriate offices and such. You will be the first port of call for visitors' so it is imperative that you dress appropriately for your position." That was enough for now, Mim didn't want to overwhelm her with talk of foreign dignities and possibly being called away to other floors should she be needed. It wasn't set in stone that Miss Parkinson would get the position, but seeing she had direct family at the Ministry and Mim knew Jovian to be a death eater, then she felt fairly confident that Dora's values would align with that of a new ministry. "Do you think those are the sorts of tasks you'd be able to handle?"

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
As she had expected, the position seemed rather simple. Mundane. Dora required no real skills in order to direct people where to find a certain department and she’d been sorting mail since she was old enough to get a report card, intercepting the owls before her parents could see the marks she’d received in the previous term and using a little deception enchantment to make her daddy think she was smarter than she truly was. The only concern Dora had with the short list of job demands was the last bit. The attire. “Im sure I could manage,” Dora said with a slight arrogance in her voice that had not been there before. “But I wouldn’t be required to wear something drab like the witch downstairs, would I?” she asked with a slight sneer. “She seems a lovely woman, I’m sure, but she’s not doing her figure any favors.” Dora was being caddy but truthful. The witch herself had been a stunner but her salmon pantsuit left something to be desired, though perhaps it was on purpose. Was it a way to fend off unwanted advances from all of the attractive, single wizards? The only explanation Dora could come up with was that the reception witch fancied ladies and perhaps lesbians liked a smashing salmon pantsuit, although Dora couldn’t imagine anyone finding that attractive.

Mim held back her emotions, she wasn't the sort to give away what she was thinking, only what she thought the other person would want to see. Being that she was the sort of 'boss' in this situation, she smiled just a little, although she wanted to rip into the muggle born downstairs, but she restrained herself, "Merlin no." Mim assured her, "What you're wearing today is plenty suitable enough, and just about anything semi-professional will do the job. Do you have any other questions?" Because Mim was just about done. Pureblood? Check. Competent? Probably, so check. Friendly demeanour? She got there in the end and she had a little snide edge that Mim secretly liked, so check. Death Eater adjacent in views? She'd look into it but she was fairly certain Dora fit all the criteria Mim was looking out for, and besides, she had pureblooded, death eater family already in the Ministry, in a rather impressive role at that for a young one. Mim also knew that Jovian was seeing Finley Avery, also a death eater, and his father, another death eater, also worked at the ministry. A little nepotism never hurt anyone, not when purity of the wizarding world was the ultimate goal.

Yeah, who was that handsome bloke making flirty eyes at her earlier, and was he single. “I don’t think so...” she trailed off without finishing her sentence properly and then looked up. “Actually, this is probably a stupid question but is there perhaps some sort of daycare or something here? I usually have friends watch my daughter while I’m at work but they’ll be busy with their own jobs during the day.” Had Dora has more experience with job interviews, she might have waited until after accepting a position to bring up her little parenting conundrum but she was sadly inexperienced in both job hunting and being a mum. “I’d rather not put her in a public daycare if I can manage. You never know what sort they allow in those places.” Children whose parents didn’t know how to bathe them properly or dressed them in outfits matching their own. Not to mention the muggle issue. There were too many variables in finding a public daycare but Dora had considered simply pouting until Fin gave in and agreed to adopt Pansy so she could regain her life back. He did well with her and a bit of baby mess would do his germophobic self some good.

Mim thought Dora had done relatively well. Was she perfect for the position? No but that didn't mean she wasn't going to get it. She was a respectable enough witch and while she was a single mother, that wasn't something mim looked down on her for, in fact it was good to see her getting out there and not letting a child hold her back. Mim had no interest in children, however she was good at interacting with them. They were idiots that loved a bright smile and making mess, easy creatures to appease. "No we don't." Mim looked through her parchments having anticipated such a thing. She had a couple of mothers lined up for interviews so this was expected, "Here," She said, pulling out a card from under her pieces of parchment, "They're rather exclusive, but you can apply for the Ministry to cover a percentage of the cost if you work here." Mim held the card out to Dora, Shimmering silver letters arched across the top the car showing 'S.N.A.I.L.S', beneath was 'Saxonia Newell's Anklebiters and Infant Learning School'. It was exclusive in the sense that it was pureblood only, something that Mim was sure Miss Parkinson wouldn't have an issue with. "Is that all?" She asked, having expected a little more but perhaps Dora had figured it was best to keep her mouth shut, she was already under-qualified for the position so there was no need to throw herself completely out of the running by asking something, for lack of a better word, dumb. Mim thought Dora had a certain charm about her though. She didn't come off as dim in the slightest but rather sharp, although perhaps lacking work experience.

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
No daycare, bollocks. That meant she her options were narrowed down to public daycare or pouting until she got her way with Fin. She would need a little more lip balm to prepare the proper pout. Dora smiled politely, ready to be dismissed and leave the topic there, but Mimi handed her a business card and explained that Pansy would likely not be accepted to the exclusive private daycare but she could give it a go and perhaps get a bit of money back if both she and Pansy were accepted into their respective positions. Dora looked over the card that read 'S.N.A.I.L.S.' in silver letters. Maybe if Fin went with her and played Pansy’s daddy for the day, they might admit her and then Dora could stage a break-up once she was enrolled. Ideas to be plotted more extensively at a later date. Dora had to get the Ministry position first, and she was still uncertain if she even wanted the job though it did sound easy enough and it would free up her nights for seeing her vampire friend, Hunter, and whatever other men she fancied. It would be lovely to have a proper nightlife again. “Yes, thank you.” Dora pocketed the business card and extended her right hand as she rose from her chair. After saying her goodbyes, Dora headed out to the hallway, turning back quickly to ask for clarification on where to find the exit, and then sheepishly thanked the witch once more before heading off.
