My promise to you always and forever
He was a little early, having left the Meadowes' quicker than originally planned thanks to a little push from an overly presumptuous Dorcas. Dorian took his time as he strolled leisurely up the street toward Immy's flat. She lived in a muggle-occupied area but it was walking distance to Whimsic Alley and Dorian thought it might be nice for them to walk to the restaurant since it wasn't really snowing very much. There had been a small dusting of snow earlier in the day, covering the pavement and little grassy bits dotted here and there with a white powder that was almost magical in its own right. Dorian checked his watch. He was still a few minutes early but only a few - he debated whether to knock on her door now or wait. So long as he wasn't late, he didn't see much harm in arriving only a couple of minutes before their agreed upon time. Unless she was the sort that ran late and was still dressing. Perhaps he would wait just a few more minutes outside of the apartment building before heading inside and finding her flat.
The street had a calm silence to it, or as quiet as one could expect even on the outskirts of London. Dorian paced slowly in front of the apartment building, smiling at a woman and her son who had come out of the apartment. They were bundled up tight, and the mum seemed eager to get out of the chilly weather as she walked hurriedly, but the boy dawdled, kicking at the snow. "But we need a snowman!" the boy whined after his mum had called him by his full name and insisted he hurry alongside her. Dorian checked his watch; just a little bit longer. The family out of sight, Dorian looked around to make sure he was alone before discretely drawing his wand and giving it a teensy flourish. A wind picked up and seemed to blow the snow into three stacked balls. Dorian stuffed his wand back in his pocket, bent to the ground and managed to scrounge up a few rocks and sticks from around the little tree nearby to complete the look. He checked his watch again, smiled, then turned and headed into the apartment building.
He felt a small flurry of excitement as he knocked on the door, and waited patiently, hoping she wasn't the sort to be running late on the first date.

Date night! They didn't happen nearly often enough for Immy's liking. She wasn't one that usually took the time for personal matters but Dorian had won her over, whether she'd like to admit it or not. Any spare time that Immy had before Dorian had come along, was usually spent with her family. Im wasn't yet sure how she really felt about Dorian, but it was certainly nice to be dating again and especially with a thoughtful, smart, and quite frankly, attractive individual.
Im had had the whole day off from work. She'd run a few errands, got herself some shopping, tidied up here and there about her apartment and spent over an hour trying to figure out what she'd wear tonight. Going through her wardrobe, she realised that it had been quite some time since she'd cleared it out, but it would have to wait for another day. She cursed herself out loud in Spanish for not having bought an outfit while she'd been out shopping today, but decided on a short dress with long sleeves. Dark meets light with some eye-catching shoes. Her legs were some of her best features and she often preferred to wear sleeves over her arms but showcase her legs.
With her make up done and her hair loose around her shoulders, Immy was making sure she had everything in her bag when there was a knock at the door. She quickly stuffed her purse and wand inside and hurried to the front door. She took a moment to take a calming breath, not having realised the butterflies she had fluttering around in her stomach. First dates were always exciting but also made her feel a little nervous. Even though she'd built a sort of friendship with Dorian over the few months that she'd known him, and Ariel, Immy was still as nervous as she would have been for a blind date. Opening the front door Immy smiled as Dorian's face came into view. "Dorian, hi," She said happily, "Come in, let me just grab my coat." She said, opening the door up and taking a step back to let Dorian enter her apartment.

My promise to you always and forever
Dorian had enjoyed his friendly trip with Immy to the library previously, although Ariel had been a good buffer for the socially apprehensive Auror. In casual conversation Immy had brought up Tenebrus Halls library which Dorian had been wanting to take Ariel to, and he mentioned as much. The library was on Dorian’s top 10 list of his favorite libraries in the UK and Ireland, but he’d not explored the children’s section of the library before. Typically he took Ariel to the library closest to their home, or nearest the Meadowes’ simply for the ease of it all, but he had heard the Tenebrus Halls library had a phenomenal children’s section and he’d been looking for an opportunity to take Ariel there. Immy suggested they meet up there with Ariel and Dorian liked the idea for multiple reasons. The trip had gone well. Ariel managed to make her Daddy Dor proud with how many books she wanted to take home – nearly all about dancing unicorns and dragons, and Dorian and Immy had the opportunity to get to talk a bit more than they had at Leo’s barbecue. A few additional library outings gave Dorian the courage to muster up a real date proposal and the time had finally come. He waited anxiously at her front door, purposefully schooling his features to hide the broad smile that wanted to burst forth from his face.
The door opened and Immy appeared. She looked stunning, of course, but the first thing Dorian noticed was how the lights caught her eyes. “Hello.” She invited him inside and Dorian nodded, stepping over the threshold. “I hope you don’t mind a little stroll. It’s a bit chilly outside but it’s also quite lovely.” He had hopes of taking her to Shangri-La which was in walking distance, and although she’d not voiced a concern with walking in the winter wonderland outside, he hoped she would be comfortable.

Once Dorian had stepped inside of the apartment, Immy closed the door behind him feeling that even with an Auror around, in this day and age, it was always best to play it safer rather than sorry. "As long as there's no hiking involved, that'll be lovely." She said, making her way to her cloak closet, which was really more of a narrow wardrobe. She pulled out her dark blue cloak, in some lighting it looked navy while in others it looked closer to black, and placed it over her shoulders, fastening it into place with a little brooch her abuela had given her when she was little. Nothing special but Immy cherished it. She always liked to take a little something with her that kept her close with her family. After making sure her cloak was hanging properly, Immy made her way back over to Dorian and pulled open the front door, waiting for him to exit first before leaving the apartment herself and shutting the self locking door behind her.

They didn’t stay but a moment inside her flat, not that Dorian was expecting her to entertain them in her home on their first real date, but he noted that she was cautious in closing the door behind him for the short duration of time it took her to fetch and don her cloak. He did the same out of habitual over caution and he supposed, given their country’s current state of affairs, she had a similar reason for her actions. For a moment he felt guilty that he was taking time formerly spent working to solve cases and bring a small sense of order to the chaos that was the wizarding world, and instead he was selfishly indulging himself in pleasant company with potential for…more. The sight of Immy turning as she flung her cloak around her shoulders, long legs exposed and dark hair cascading down her back, distracted Dorian from his moment of doubt and he smiled. “No hiking. Not in those shoes, at least. You look gorgeous, by the way,” he remarked earnestly as they stepped out of her apartment and she shut the door behind them. He hesitated a moment until he heard the locks click into place. “I like your…” he gestured to her broach as they stepped out into the fresh winter air. He couldn’t think of the word. He found he couldn’t think of a great deal of things when he spoke to Immy, and rarely before had he found himself tongue-tied.
They passed by the snowman Dorian had constructed on the pavement and he led Immy down the street toward Whimsic Alley in search of the best Chinese food this side of the Black Sea. He managed small talk on the way, mostly talking about Ariel and their most recent trips to the library – a safe topic given the couple’s previous meeting arrangements. When they arrived at Shangri-La, Dorian held the door for Immy and followed her inside, away from the cold. He’d made a reservation but they still had to wait a few minutes as the staff bused the table and brought fresh utensils. “If you can’t make it to China for supper, this is the next best place to go,” he said with a slight smile as he held her chair for her.

Dorian was playful and polite all at once. Had she not already been smiling, he would have put a smile on Immy's face. "Oh," She said, her hand instinctively moving to her brooch, her fingers gently caressing the edges of the brooch. "I've had it forever. It was a gift from my abuela a long time ago." Her hand dropped from the brooch as they carried on walking. The stroll was nice, the snowman they passed on the pavement put another smile on Immy's face, it was good to see the kid shaving fun with the snow. It wasn't something they got all too often here in the city, it was good to see that someone was making the most of it.
Immy didn't mind the small talk on the way to the restaurant. She was happy to hear about how Ariel was enjoying her visits to the library, although she did hope things would get a little more date-like once they were in a date-like setting. It wasn't easy to go from being friends to dating, Immy wanted to be careful that if dating wasn't the right path for them, that they could still be friends again after. "Have you been to China?" She enquired curiously while taking the seat Dorian had pulled out for her, a little surprised that he may have been somewhere as exotic as China, although she probably shouldn't have been. As an Auror his job would probably have taken him all over the globe! Immy was fascinated with travelling, and she did like to get away every now and then, but most of her time spent travelling was just between England and Spain, so much so that her grandparents home in Spain was basically a second home to her.

Talking with Immy was easy. They had chatted on several occasions and got on well, so it seemed simple enough to fall into conversation with her now, though Dorian had to admit that he was not well versed in modern dating practices so his choice of topics might have fallen short of date-like without his knowing. The last date he had gone on was with his then-girlfriend Paris, and she had been dead now for two years. It had been pointed out even then that his approach to wooing a woman might have been a little outdated and certainly advancements had been made in the last couple of years that Dorian had been willfully ignorant to. Had he mucked up his first proper date with Imelda already he would never have known. “A time or two, yes. For work mostly.” Nearly all of his travels were for work, but he had, on occasion, taken an extra day to see the sights. He had walked the Great Wall and partook in a moment of silence in a Buddhist temple in Zhengzhou. He regaled Immy with a more sanitized version of the time he had chased a Dark Wizard to Guilin on a river cruise boat, describing in passionate detail the lovely surroundings he had found himself in despite the tediousness of the task at hand, pausing when the waiter came around to take their order. Perhaps this was boring. He’d been talking far too much and had not reciprocated the question back to her yet. He was being a blathering idiot and was happy for the excuse of a warm dumpling popped into his mouth to politely shut the hell up. He swallowed and cleared his mouth with a sip of tea. “I don’t suppose travelling for work truly counts as travelling. Not in the sense most people expect. I am sure you’ve had more leisurely opportunities abroad.” He knew she visited family in Spain, gathering that information early in their friendship, but between England and Spain at least there were a few touristy locations she might have ventured, if not further.

For work. Well that was a shame, she thought. You could never really have much fun if you were working, and in Dorian's line of work she supposed his work was more intense than others. It wouldn't have been some kind of business trip, it would more than likely have been to track down and catch a dark witch or wizard. The idea of hunting people like that down was frightful, but Dorian must have been good at it as, from what she recalled of a prior conversation, he was in charge of the Auror training academy as well as still being an Auror. That must have taken a lot of work on his part, and he had the sweet little Ariel in his care, too.
They talked and the waiter took their order. They talked some more and Immy was absolutely fascinated with Dorian's story. His life sounded fascinating and it was clear to Immy that Dorian was a special kind of person to be able to do all that. She wouldn't even have known where to start with a case, even if she had years of training beforehand. She was a great Healer, she worked exceptionally well under pressure, but tracking someone like that? Following them? Picking up trails? That was incredible detective work. "I've had a few holidays here and there, but mostly I just travel to visit my family." She told him, "I prefer to visit little villages, get a feel and understanding of the lives of the people. I've found so many people in smaller communities have such pure and generous souls." It was really beautiful. She told him of Eguisheim, a beautiful French village that was very much like Diagon Alley, only vibrant and playful. It was popular during wine season but in its off season it was peaceful and spectacular. There were many places she'd visited between and England and Spain, mostly in France, a little in Spain and a few places in Portugal if she fancied venturing that far west, "This is amazing, you really know how to pick a good restaurant." She said, pointing her fork to the shiitake fried rice with water chestnuts she'd spooned onto her plate. She wasn't competent enough to try eating with chop sticks on a first date, although she was certain it would have been hilarious as well as embarrassing. She needed to eat Chinese more often because this was spectacular.

He had been to Eguisheim once while hunting down a Dark Witch, alongside Agent Moody, but hadn’t mentioned as much to his date. Eguisheim was a lovely little village and Dorian didn’t want her view of the place to be tainted by the knowledge that a murderous witch had taken up residence there some years back. It was perfectly safe otherwise, and Immy spoke of the village with such admiration, there was no reason to dampen the memories with ugliness. He posed thoughtful questions and listened with delight as she explained, sometimes deciding that neither of them knew and he made a mental note to look up the information the next time he was at a library so that they could continue their conversation because he was rather enjoying it.
She complimented the food though Dorian could hardly take credit for it. “I have always been something of a food lover,” he explained, setting his chopsticks on the edge of his plate and lifting his glass to clear his mouth before speaking further. “Though, I must admit, I am more accustomed to dining at home than going out. I cannot take credit for knowing about this place, one of my work colleagues turned me on to this place originally. She eats Chinese like it’s going out of fashion.” Although Dorcas’ food habits were not limited to Chinese take-away exclusively, she did seem to have an inordinate amount of take away boxes in the department refrigerator as if she sustained purely on leftover chow mein.

Immy chuckled at Dorian's quip about his friend while she ate. She liked Chinese food but it wasn't something she ate often. Usually she ate foods her grandmother had taught her to cook however Immy didn't have any idea of how to reduce the portion but maintain the flavour so she often cooked enough food to feed thirty people. She'd usually invite friends over, try and give it away at work and use it for lunch the following day, and night. Thankfully it was always delicious enough that she never got tired of it. "I don't eat at a lot of restaurants. I guess when I get home I just don't fancy going out, usually." Work could be exhausting. Im liked to keep a good balance and would see her friends either at her place or their, occasionally they'd go out, but most nights she just liked to relax at home. "My abuela taught me to cook, though it often means I could feed a small army when I make a meal." she smiled, taking her glass of wine, "I'll cook for you soon, I'm certain that you'll love my abuela's recipes." She took a sip of her wine, thinking that perhaps, if tonight went well, then maybe he could come to hers for their second date, and she could cook one of her abuela's most delicious recipes.

A woman offering to cook for him was not something that Dorian was used to. He liked it. Cooking had not been in his last girlfriend’s wheelhouse, though Dorian always praised Paris’ efforts and never once complained when his kitchen was left destroyed or the food was burnt. Before that there was a long stretch of no one, and prior to that his girlfriends had all been relatively short-lived and too young and immature to understand the value of a good home cooked meal. Dorian enjoyed the idea of Immy cooking something delicious for him, but more so he was excited for the possibility of another date. “That would be nice.” Things were going well, thus far, and it bode well that she was thinking ahead already. Dorian himself didn’t like looking too far into the future, having had such horrendous luck in life that planning for anything beyond a few weeks seemed practically pointless (with the exception of already having Ariel’s Hogwarts experience mapped out right down to her time as Head Girl and straight O’s across all her lessons). He would be amiss if he wasn't completely on board with a second and possibly third date with the lovely woman across from him.

Immy was enjoying herself and the idea of cooking for Dorian was kind of exciting. She enjoyed cooking and in her family cooking for someone was away of showing that you loved them. While she didn't love Dorian in any kind of a romantic way right now, she did care for him as a friend, and the potential for a genuine romantic connection was there and one she hoped would blossom. Risking a friendship by dating would pay off if they were well suited enough to make a relationship work, and Immy had a feeling that they could definitely give this relationship a good chance, having a lot in common while still being able to talk so easily about their differences was most certainly a good sign in Immy's eyes.
With the starters and mains eaten and cleared, Immy looked down at the coconut pudding that was garnished with lychees and mango. She'd never had it before but she liked all the other components that went into it so she took a leap of faith that she'd like this, too. She scooped a small taste into her mouth and was delighted that it was as delicious as it sounded. "I have to be honest, I may cheat on dessert and just order it straight from here, this is fabulous." She said, scooping up a little more, "Here, try." She smiled, offering her spoon of coconut pudding and a little mango to Dorian.

“I think I can look the other way on a little cheating, in that regard.” He chuckled lightly, already knowing the splendor that was Shangri-La’s dessert menu. Immy offered him a bite and leaned forward to reach for her spoon when a small paper owl appeared hovering between them, interjecting itself into their date. Dorian frowned and snatched the bird instead of the spoon, unfolding the message quickly though he already knew what to expect. It was from the Ministry and he was being called in to work. Dark eyes scanned the words, his jaw set in annoyance. “Immy, I am terribly sorry but there’s a matter that needs attending at work.” Their first date and already he was leaving her in the lurch. They’d only just broached the idea of a second date but he wasn’t foolish enough to ask for one now. Dorian pulled his coin purse from his inner breast pocket and placed enough to cover their bill and then some. He stood, tucking his money away, and then reached for her hand. “My apologies.” He kissed the back of her hand. “Let me escort you home.” He couldn’t just leave her, but he also didn’t have time for another city stroll.

Immy almost jumped back in her seat when an owl appeared in the literal middle of their date with a message. Dorian took the letter it came with and seemed rather disheartened. Immy knew immediately what was going on. While St Mungo's did not send owls, she knew what it was to be called away when you were enjoying yourself. That was the downside to both of their chosen careers, unfortunately. "No, no." She said, smiling, certainly disappointed but she couldn't allow him to escort her home if he was urgently needed. "You're needed. I'll be fine, honestly." It was certainly a memorable first date. Immy had the fortune of never having been called away on a first date before, but she had been called away on dates. At least in her profession she had the luxury of knowing when she was on call, as an auror she supposed Dorian had no idea when he might be called in for one of his cases. Immy stood from her seat and tucked it back in, picking up her coat and sliding it over her shoulders. Even though their date was cut short, it wasn't even in her top ten worst dates, for one Dorian paid without even checking if they were splitting the bill, he just took it upon himself, although that didn't surprise her, she couldn't ever imagine he'd be the sort to ever insist on a woman paying her own way, even on the worst date imaginable. "I've had a lovely evening." She smiled, hoping that was at least some sort of comfort to Dorian after having to cut their date short.

She was rejecting his offer to escort her home, but Dorian did not feel the least bit slighted. Immy was a healer, a profession of the utmost importance and one that he was certain would make requests of her similarly to how the Auror Department required him now. Some things were simply too urgent, too important, or too chaotic to be handled solely by those on shift. He had been called away from more important events than a date before, though it was precisely this reason why Dorian had stepped back in his duties when Ariel came into his life. There were only so many missed moment a man could afford in his niece’s/adopted daughter’s young life and honestly, if he had to choose between Ariel and Immy to leave in the lurch for his work, it wasn’t going to be Ariel. He smiled solemnly and nodded his head at her instance that she would make it home safely. There was not any looming threat on the short walk from the restaurant to her flat, well, nothing more tumultuous than what seemed to be their new normal under the threat of Death Eater attack. Dorian’s offer and show of concern was more out of chivalry than true worry for her safety. She would be fine, but he would check in on her later to confirm.
Immy stood from the table and Dorian took a single step backwards to afford her standing space. He smiled at her kind words. “As did I.” The pair began their walk toward the exit, the least he could do was escort her out of the building before disapparating. “Would it be alright with you if I rang you tomorrow?” He wasn’t foolish enough to ask for a second date at the same time that he was running out on their first, but he did hope to see her in this capacity again. She was intelligent and well-spoken, and it had taken ages for him to work up the nerve to request their relationship move from casual library partners to something more intimate. He had already taken the first step, there was no need to backtrack just yet.
