A Whole New World || Magical Community ||

It was time. Wilbur's people we busy fussing over him and making him look every part the Minister of Magic that he was. Dominant, trustworthy, handsome. It all came so easily to him. Wilbur's undersecretary was on stage giving a brief introduction while Wilbur stood in the wings, holding he head high. The press was there, camera's were flashing and if he were to lean forward and look out, Wilbur knew he would see upward of fifty people from the press, and many more from the public, ready to hear what he had to say. They were in for a wonderful afternoon. They knew something big was coming but Wilbur was fairly certain they weren't expecting what he was giving this afternoon.

Taking to the stage following his introduction and a round of applause, Wilbur stood at the podium, ready to address his adoring public. The Ministerial Guard was placed all around the room, all tasked with the most important mission today - keeping Wilbur alive. Wilbur began his history making speech.

"Prestigious Witches and Wizards of the magical community. We leave behind us a decade of instability and disorder. Leaders of the past that have driven us into uncertain times are now behind us, what lays ahead is a bright and promising future. As we enter this new chapter of our world, we must focus on finding a purpose once more; creating calm in our community and protecting those that need it most amongst our numbers. We must learn from our past in our desire to move forward, to protect ourselves. It is necessary to pull away from those that wish to harm us, there is an urgent need to focus now on rebuilding our numbers, to conserve Magical bloodlines, for we are a weakened nation, but I say 'No longer. No longer will we allow ourselves to be dragged down to the levels of those not worthy to wipe the mud from our boots. No longer shall we support those that only wish to take, take, take. It is our turn to take back that which is ours. It is our turn to take back our magic.'.

In our day to day lives, the average man or woman is not concerned with what befalls the community but rather what transpires over the course of their own day. We plan to make the lives of our everyday Mildreds and Marvins an easier one. We are a divided nation and it is time to heal, it is time to cast aside those that would see us drown in the blood of our most cherished and to rise up higher than ever before, to fight for our given right to be true to ourselves. Our agenda is one that is simple and clear - protection of the wizarding world, protection of our home and above all our Freedom. No longer will the government stand idly by while our fellow witches and wizards must hide who they are. New laws are coming, my friends. New laws will see to it that you and your family are given the rights you are entitled to, your children will be born with a freedom we were denied. It is the duty of your Ministry to act in the best interest of its people and from now on, that is what this Office will do, it is what we have been doing since we rid the Ministry of those that would see us hide, those that would repress us.

With our Freedom will come a price. There will be those that wish to deny us our freedoms or try to take advantage of it. We will have our freedom but we must protect the common good. We must identify those that may wish to cause us harm or wish to take away our newfound freedom. We will have many allies as we roll out these changes but there will be some resistance and so it is up to our community to unite. We must look out for one another and report any behaviours that wish to threaten our new way of life. We have been given a new lease on life and it is time that we grasp at this opportunity with both hands and take it for our own. Our children will be raised in a world where they are free to practice the magics of their fathers without fear. Enemies to our freedom shall be marked. Freedom will be yours."

Through it the speech there were cheers and Wilbur soaked up the atmosphere of the room, matching his speech to the energy of the room and allowing his speech to take wings. It was taking off, it was time for the wizarding world to advance forward, break free, to stop hiding. Wilbur thanked his public, the vulture media on their feet and calling after him, shouting out their questions in the hopes that he might something more, but Wilbur had said all he needed for today. Flash after flash of the camera capturing his likeness to film. Wilbur waved a hand, bowed his head and exited the stage, his undersecretary coming back on and announcing that Wilbur would not be taking any questions and thanking them for their turn out today.

It had begun. They were making a difference in the wizarding world and the Death Eaters would have more power than ever before.

Over the coming weeks laws were made at a rapid rate, passed all too quickly to have been thoroughly debated but it was the will of the Minister and other outside influential sources that saw to it that the Wizarding World indeed got its freedom. Muggleborns were rounded up by order of the Minister and registered to keep track of their movements. While being a muggleborn witch or wizard is not illegal in of itself, it does come with restrictions and a bright yellow arm band that is magically affixed to the muggleborns and appears over whatever they might wear cannot be removed. This fluorescent band, marked with a large, glimmering silver ‘M’ that glows at night, lets everyone know just who is a muggleborn, marking them as Enemies of the Magical World. Propaganda is spread that the muggleborns wish to see the witches and wizards of the magical world hide away. Posters are spread far and wide around the magical world and many muggleborn witches and wizards have gone into hiding. A lot of employers have terminated employment of muggleborns. While they are free to practice magic wherever they please, just like the rest of the magical world, they have become easy targets for Death Eaters and those easily sway to believing the propaganda spread.

• The vast majority of muggles still do not believe in magic, witches or wizards, only terrible accidents etc.
• Death Eaters have taken advantage of the lack of traces and have attacked many muggle communities leaving the Magical Law Enforcement Department snowed under, taking on more than they can handle.
• The majority of Muggleborns and their families have gone into hiding all over the world with the help of the Order of the Phoenix. Those that remain face persecution from many in the wizarding world on a daily basis. Many shops openly place ‘No Muggleborns’ and 'No Mudbloods' signs in their windows.
• It has become illegal for Muggleborns to marry a witch or wizard. All existing marriages are considered null and void, although exceptions can be made.
• Muggleborn students at Hogwarts are to be rounded up by Ministry Officials on Platform Nine and Three Quarters at King’s Cross Station when it pulls in to the station on Saturday the 15th of June, 1980.
