Behind Closed Doors Kit enjoyed having Ollie home. When his brother had claimed the spare room back when Kit had first moved in to this house, Kit had raised an eyebrow, but he was really over the moon to have his baby brother by his side. Family was and always would be everything to Kit, and though he had once imagined what his life would be like living on his own after flying the nest, he liked the current picture much better. Ollie was away a lot with his team, which meant that the boys got along even better than usual when he was home and they were in each other's pockets again. The little breaks helped to smooth over any sibling squabbles, but Kit thought himself mature enough to not have petty arguments with his siblings anymore. He was wrong, he couldn't help but get sucked into things, especially with his sisters who were still only teenagers, but he did try his best as the oldest to keep a clear head. Merlin knew he had watched over them for long enough to have learned how to navigate sibling wars. The morning had been quiet, both brothers sleeping in and enjoying the last of the weekend before work got a grip of them again. Kit had "made" cereal for breakfast, but by mid-morning, hunger was beginning to kick in. They had no real plans for the day, but the sun was shining, and the wind wasn't cold enough to keep people indoors, huddled by fires. It was surprisingly warm for autumn, Kit didn't want to be cooped up all day. He'd have enough of that in the office tomorrow. He plucked two apples from the fruit bowl in the kitchen and headed down the stairs to the living room, where Ollie was relaxing. "Heads up!" he shouted, and with no other warning, launched the apple straight at Ollie's head, the red ball blurring as it was thrown with the strength and speed of someone not quite human. Kit grinned and took a bite of his own apple, leaning against the door frame. "Wanna play ball?" he asked, thinking the park down the road was usually quiet. Possibly quiet enough for two half vampires to let off some steam without being seen. _______________________ tag: Oliver Osiris Devereaux words: 403 outfit: Jeans, t-shirt. If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun
Life as an adult was far easier than he’d been warned about by his father, and basically every other adult in his life since he was a teenager. It seemed a collective scheme by grown ups to want to terrify their teenaged children and acquaintances into thinking living on your own and having responsibilities was some gigantic pain in the bum, but it really wasn’t. Well, at least it wasn’t if you claimed the spare bedroom of your brother’s place as your own and let him do all the washing and dishes and sort of motherly jobs. Oliver helped out, of course, he wasn’t a total wankpot but the lion’s share of the housework was completed by Kit, including much of the cooking. This morning’s breakfast hadn’t involved too much cooking and hardly any dishes, so Ollie volunteered to was them before disappearing into the living room to relax.
Kit’s audible warning wasn’t required, Ollie had easily heard his big brother’s footsteps on the stairs. He could hear the squeaking of his trainers against the wood grain as each step fell, coming closer and closer. Kit’s words were nothing more than a pleasantry to announce his arrival. Ollie’s eyes barely lifted from the words on the page of the magazine he was reading, but his arm shot upwards and his hand clasped around the bright red apple with a loud thud as it hit his palm. If Ollie had been full human that could have taken the hand clean off at the wrist, but the impact caused little more than a sting that faded within a few seconds.
Taking a bite from the apple, Ollie’s eye met his brother’s. “Yeah, alright,” he mumbled through a mouth full of juicy apple, no manners in sight. He had been sitting on the couch, one leg extended onto the coffee table with the other leg bent and resting atop the first. “Can you believe this dragon dung?” he asked his brother, tossing the magazine he’d been reading onto the table and pulling himself into a proper sitting position so that he could slip on his shoes that had been kicked off and left on the floor the night before. The article Oliver was referencing was titled “Is Quodpod Fever Spreading to the UK?” and showed a famous American quadpod player wearing the Union Jack across his robes. Ollie shoved the apple into his mouth, biting down enough to keep it lodged there while his hands were busied with lacing up his trainers. With the job done, he took a more manageable sized bite and popped up off the couch. “Loser makes tea,” he smiled, ready to kick his big brother’s arse into next Tuesday.

Behind Closed Doors Kit glanced at the article Ollie was griping over. Something about Quadpot taking over Britain. Kit curled his lip up in distaste, knowing how it would be a thorn in his brother's side. Ollie loved his Quidditch, and though he never allowed himself to play it for fear of people learning what he was, Kit enjoyed watching the sport. He'd be sad to see his brother so down if Quidditch took a back seat to the American sport, but telling Ollie that wouldn't help. "If people get bored of Quidditch, I'll just get you a job at the Ministry," he told Ollie as he took another bite of his apple, wondering how hard it would be to pull a few strings if there were any job openings. He wouldn't want Ollie doing something that wasn't respectable, that wouldn't do for Kit's baby brother, but there were enough office positions that paid a good wage and would fill a gap while Ollie figured out a new path in life. It was all hypothetical, of course, because there was no way this Quadpot crap was going to make it big over here, Brits were too set in their ways for that. "I always make tea," Kit pointed out as he walked with Ollie down the hall towards the front door. He set his apple down and pulled open the small cupboard beside the door, it was meant for coats, but housed a lot of junk that really shouldn't have been in there at all. It only took him a minute or two of rummaging to locate a football. He held it out behind him with one hand, the other still digging into a box at the back of the cupboard until he found more, pulling out a small white ball and holding that out, too. "Football or baseball?" he asked Ollie, hoping the bats were in the box, too, if Ollie chose the latter game. Kit didn't even know why he had a football. The baseball set was from when they were kids, and he'd kept it for sentimental reasons, but he had no idea which one of them had even went out and bought a football. There were quite a few items around the house that were a mystery to him, too, but he'd learned to just accept it and pin it on Ollie, or one of their friends. _______________________ tag: Oliver Osiris Devereaux words: 423 outfit: Jeans, t-shirt. If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun
A job at the Ministry sounded horrid. Ollie didn’t begrudge his brother’s ambitions and he was really rather proud of the man for all he had accomplished in his time working as an Auror but that definitely was not the life for Oliver Devereaux. Again, talking with his mouth full of apple he said, “Only if I get to be one of the lunch witches in the cafeteria with those hairnets they have to wear. I’d look bloody brilliant in a hairnet and apron.” Clearly joking, Ollie wanted nothing to do with a Ministry position of any kind but he didn’t express as much to his brother. They had different ambitions in life, and that was fine. It worked well for them thus far, but if quidditch ever took a hit, Ollie would find something equally as exciting to do, he’d not be stuck behind a desk or forced into a suit five days a week.
Kit pointed out that he, Kit, was the one always making tea and Ollie slapped him hard on the back, a broad grin on his face. “That’s alright, mate. You’ll beat me one of these days. Just gotta work a little harder, is all.” Insinuating the only reason Kit cooked so much was because he was constantly losing to his baby brother made Ollie chuckle. That was definitely far from the truth. Ollie wouldn’t mind cooking more often but if left to it he’d forget until he was too hungry to wait for anything to cook and end up ordering a pizza or getting take away from one of the restaurants nearby, ignoring his brother pointing out that he was still waiting for food to cook even if he wasn’t the one doing the cooking. Kit was the better cook besides, and the more responsible of the brothers. He cooked and cleaned dishes, did the washing, took out the rubbish bins. Even their home technically belonged to Kit. Ollie was just crashing indefinitely at his brother’s place. The only thing that made Ollie a real adult, besides his age, was that he had a job. It never really occurred to him that he needed to grow up any, so he kept on with his lifestyle, perfectly happy to be the slacker of the two.
Rummaging through the hall cupboard was not an easy task and so Ollie left it to Kit to do, choosing instead to stand there and continue working on his apple as Kit presented their options. “Baseball,” he answered, feeling in the mood to hit something with a bat.

Behind Closed Doors Kit was straight faced as he tried to untangle himself from the cupboard mess, and managed to knock over a brush pole instead, catching it with his foot and hopping on the spot as he tried to guide it back into the cupboard with his ankle. "I'm gonna steal you a hair net tomorrow and you have to wear it all night," he said, completely serious. "We've got aprons in the kitchen cupboard." And there would be pictures being taken for evidence that it happened, because it was now officially happening. If Ollie tried to back out and say he was only kidding, Kit would just make it a dare. There was no way his brother would back down from a dare, not one that only meant he had to wear a silly getup around the house for an evening. Ollie probably wouldn't back down from a dare that involved setting his head on fire, or so Kit thought, and fretted regularly. But the hair net thing was happening. "Very funny," Kit grumbled. He was secretly glad that he got to do most of the cooking. And cleaning. And shopping. And everything else. At least he knew it would get done properly and just the way he liked it. It was nothing personal against Ollie, he would be like that no matter who did any of those things for him. He really didn't mind being the chef when he knew he'd get meals that he loved every night. And yes, sometimes meals that he loved where cheese toasties, or soup out of a tin, because being an Auror was bloody tiring, and he was only human. Well, half human. He really couldn't use that excuse, not around his family. He tossed the mystery football back into the cupboard and slammed the door before the brush could fall down again, realising all too late that he'd forgot to get the bats for baseball. Crap. He tossed the baseball over his shoulder at Ollie, confident his brother would catch it, and opened the cupboard door just a crack, enough to fit his wand inside and Accio the bats to him. They slammed into the door and fell to the floor, and he slid them out through the small gap, tossing one to his brother and twirling the other one in his hand. "Of course you pick the game where you have a huge advantage over me, you little cheat" he said, grabbing his apple and heading out the front door. Ollie would kick his arse at baseball, but it was alright. As long as they had fun. _______________________ tag: Oliver Osiris Devereaux words: 460 outfit: Jeans, t-shirt. If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun
Ollie watched his brother fumble in the cupboard as he took a step backwards and leaned against the wall, his arms folded across his chest with his apple still in reach. “If we’re dressing each other up, I’ll have to call in reinforcements. I’m sure Dora’s got plenty of ideas for what she’d like to put you in.” Bringing up their mutual friend, and the witch who unabashedly crushed over the older Devereaux boy, was a fun way to win an argument. A baseball flew his direction and Ollie caught it with his free hand as his brother summoned the bats in an attempt to avoid dealing with the mess of the cupboard again. Finishing his apple and having only the core left, Ollie turned and faced the long hallway, at the end of which he could see the rubbish bin in the far room. Sizing up his shot and screwing his face up to get the angle right, Ollie chucked the apple core down the hall and saw it knock the rim of the bin then fall into the can. A perfect shot. He grinned, pleased with himself and feeling arrogant about his chances of winning their little ball game, when he heard the soft swoosh of a bat heading in his direction. Animal-like reflexes snapped into action and he snatch the bat from the air mere moments before it collided with his shoulder. “Says the bloke throwing bats at people’s backs,” he retorted teasingly.
The weather was rather nice for late Autumn. Sun shinning and only fluffy white clouds in the sky. There was a little wind but nothing horrendous and it actually felt nice as Ollie and Kit ran around their makeshift baseball diamond, pitching the ball and practically smashing it to oblivion, forcing the pitcher to run full on to catch the ball more than two football pitchs’ length away. “Try to put it right here, this time,” Ollie said in a playfully taunting tone, gesturing to a chest high area right in front of him. “You’re not supposed to strike the batter.” Ollie stood sideways in front of the little rubber plate he’d conjured and set up on the grassy field. He pulled the bat back over his shoulder and gave his brother a cocky grin, wiggling the bat in a little cyclone motion as he waited for Kit to throw the baseball toward him.

Behind Closed Doors Kit grinned. "How about I put it in your face," he taunted as his baby brother stood ready with his bat. Kit swung his arm back, speed and precision working together to send the ball shooting across the field right at his brother's chest. If it had been a regular human standing there, the ball would have punched a hole in their chest, or knocked their head off had he been serious about aiming higher up. Kit had no such fears for Ollie. It was instinct with all of the Devereaux children. They knew without even having to think about it, that they had... talents, which meant they didn't need to worry about little things that would be downright dangerous to anyone else. They were stronger, faster, with shocking reflexes, their vision and hearing and other senses were keener. Ollie wouldn't miss the ball, and the satisfying crack that sounded through the field made Kit's smile widen as he readied himself. Without even thinking about it, he shot around the field, the ball never leaving his line of sight even as it disappeared into the surrounding trees. He heard it collide with a large oak tree, leaving a huge dent in the trunk, and skidded to a halt, almost crashing into the tree himself. His breath came sharp and fast as he pushed himself to his limits. If their father were here, they wouldn't have a hope in hell of keeping up with him, or outrunning any ball he hit, but he and Ollie were perfectly matched save for his brother's overly familiar ways with a bat. He scooped the ball up and turned on a pin, speeding back through the trees and across the field. It was exhilarating, being able to be what he really was without any judging eyes forcing him to hold back. He was sure Ollie must feel the same, since his brother would have held back a considerable amount during Quidditch matches. It was admirable that Ollie had so much self control with the sport he so loved. The same could have been said for Kit, though. He had to hold back a lot in his work, save special circumstances. If there was a battle he knew his co-workers held his secret, and expected him to up his game to get the job done, but it was still hard. This, this was freedom, and he laughed into the wind as he nearly collided with Ollie, the two of them reaching the batter's plate at the same time. Kit took a dive, knocking Ollie over with him, his hand outstretched, the ball touching the plate. He grinned a cheeky grin at Ollie. "My point. That was me."_______________________ tag: Oliver Osiris Devereaux words: 476 outfit: Jeans, t-shirt. I'm so lazy. notes: Brothers!! <3 template by izzy [googlefont="Rock Salt"]

If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun
There was never a concern that Kit would aim the baseball at his head and even less of a concern was the speed with which the ball came shooting towards him. The boys were perfectly matched, both in skill and their adoration of each other. Neither would purposefully engage in behavior that would be of detriment to the other, even if they did take the mickey out of one another at times. Ollie was a professional athlete, he was well accustomed to smack talk over the course of his job and even more so over the course of his life with Kit. The brothers had a very different relationship with their sisters but between the boys there were playful taunts and friendly competition. Ollie swung the bat hard, though with very little effort, and the sound between the collision of bat and ball made a large crack like thunder that stood out against the lovely weather. He didn’t wait to see how far he’d hit it, once the ball was gone Ollie dropped the bat and began running the bases. He zipped around their makeshift diamond with ease, the wind a cool, refreshing sensation as his surroundings blurred. He was very nearly to home plate in a matter of seconds but at the last moment he felt a force knock him off his feet and he tumbled to the ground. Legs tangled up with his brother’s outstretched arm, Oliver objected vocally. “That was your fat head!” he mocked, “I’ll get the next one. Mark my words.” And he did. It was 1-1, then 1-2, then 2-2, and so on. There game ran well past lunchtime and when his stomach started to sound more like a werewolf than a gut, Ollie called the game. “Fine, you win, but you’re still making dinner unless you’d prefer accidental poisoning for tea.” He wasn’t a poor cook but he certainly wasn’t as skilled as Kit was in the kitchen. Plus he was a lazy arse, comparatively, and sitting on the couch listening to the radio seemed like a much better use of his time.
