It had been a few months since Jesse had moved into his condo on Whimsic Alley, and he was still getting used to the variety of nightlife that could be found in the neighborhood which seemed to come alive every night. He had always been a drinker, and he loved a good time, but he hadn't been to half of the places that the alley had to offer. Just the other night he had attempted a new spot, the Rellik tavern, that had been a mistake. Jesse had entered there with the intentions of having one pint, peacefully, by himself. Instead he ended up two sheets to the wind on cheep liquor, his night ending with bloodshed as he and another bloke from the bar threw fists in the back of the bar over a cigarette. And on a Tuesday, none the less! No, tonight he didn't want or need that sort of entertainment.
Jesse had invited his friend Evie out with him to try another new spot, the one with the hard to pronounce name that seemed popular enough to catch his attention, but not packed like a can of sardines. And it was a Thursday, so how busy could the place truly be? He had intended to have a few drinks, catch up with his old friend and shoot the breeze. Evie was always a great friend to chat up, she was nice to him, though at times he wondered about her. He could never bring himself to become too close to her, something had always set a strange feeling in his bones, but he appreciated her company from time to time.
He had given her the address and name of the bar to her earlier in the day as they passed by at work, and he had been looking forward to it for most of his day. Jesse had gone home, eaten a quick dinner and readied himself for the night out. He had planned to go out somewhat early, seven o'clock to be exact. They had work in the morning and he had no intentions of getting too deep in the bottle tonight. Jesse left his flat and made his way to the bar a bit earlier than he had told her, wanting to make sure he would arrive first so that she wouldn't have to wait on him.
From the outside he could already hear the beating of the music, the lights inside the building flashed against the tinted windows casting purple and blue shadows on the sidewalk. It was a bit more lively than it had been when he had walked past earlier in the week, but still his hopes were high that it was much less seedy than his encounter earlier in the week. Jesse swung the door open and was instantly hit with what seemed like a hundred eyes looking at him. Just like that he found himself in a sea of women, his face echoing the confusion he felt inside. Was this some sort of...gay bar? For women?
On his way to the bar he noticed the origin of the music, a DJ was perched in the far corner of the bar with a small stage set for karaoke. There was a woman up there now singing "Hot Child In The City". Jesse couldn't help but laugh out loud. Lord, he had never imagined himself in a gay karaoke bar before! The bartender greeted him with the same confusion Jesse had entered with, she pointed to the sign behind her and Jesse nearly died from laughter. "I had no idea," he hollered over the music. The bartender giggled at him before giving him a pint of cheap tap beer.
Jesse drank from his mug as he shifted his focus from the woman singing to the door, he saw Evie enter and he waved to her. He raised his hands, pint in hand, and shrugged with a goofy smile on his face. "It's ladies night!" he chortled.
