Death comes for us all in the end
Black eyes scanned the sparse crowd, not searching for anything or anyone in particular but taking stock of his surroundings. Knockturn Alley was dimly lit, the tall, crooked buildings rising up several stories on all sides, blocking out any direct light. Stepping out of the apothecary shop, Severus was nearly trampled by a much taller, portly hag that grumbled offensive mutterings at him as she pushed forward, heading further into the alley with her shopping. Severus had only needed a few items, enough to fill the pockets of his robes but left his hands free throw a crude gesture silently at the back of the hag as she stalked away. She disappeared around a shaded corner. Sev turned, a sneer on his lips, and sighed heavily. He had no plans for the day beyond his shopping, and his work at Spinner’s End still needed to bubble for a few more days before he could complete it. Skulking, Severus turned and headed toward the small turn and steps that would lead him back into Diagon Alley, having spent his wages on the supplies he needed to complete his potion.
Lily was married now but that wouldn’t last. She would come to her senses and leave that bullying bastard Potter, even if she needed a little push in the proper direction. Lily and Sev had been inseparable until Potter and his gang of cruel tits had interfered but Severus was hopeful. He could get things back on track with a little potion, and then when the effects wore off Lily would recognize that she’d been hypnotized by Potter and that she really did belong with Severus. He knew her completely, he loved her, and they were meant to spend their lives together. Sev was better for Lily than Potter in every regard. Severus understood the hateful homelife Lily came from, he witnessed her sister’s abject repulsion to magic just as his father had done to him. Potter came from pompous wealth that encouraged his undeserved arrogance. What could he know of Lily’s origins and the mental scars that trauma would leave? Potter didn’t even work! Severus was well on his way to a position as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts. He was an assistant now, but he was learning and developing his skills as an instructor. He had a respectable job unlike the spoiled, egotistical Potter. Severus clenched his jaw and sneered to himself as James Potter overtook his thoughts, making his way up the steps toward the bright, sunny street of Diagon Alley.

Okay so this was probably a bad idea but Jazzy didn't care. That weird, sexy as fuck bloke wasn't around to talk her out of it so Jazzy had gone and done it, she'd bought herself a Raven at the animal shop. So they were less talented than owls, who cared?! They looked freaking cool, all black and swoopy. Jazzy was a big fan, and now that she was graduated she could have more than one pet. Her house was livable now and so this was kind of like a little house warming gift for herself, she deserved it after such a good year at school. She'd nailed her NEWTs, she'd gotten onto a professional quidditch team and she lived in a motherfucking mansion! Admittedly the first couple of nights had been somewhat terrifying. She'd spent a little time at her mum and dad's but then she was on her own. Completely on her own. In a massive sodding house. At least it had a playground! She'd gone on that because at heart it didn't matter how old Jazzy was, she'd always be a kid and she'd never not go on a playground, for Merlin's ballsack! Still, the adjustment from a dorm-full of girls to no one even in the same building was daunting. It was strange but the silence was deafening. How could no noise be so freaking scary? That was another reason for another pet, the more pets, the less lonely. She was planning on a dog next, although they were pack animals so maybe she should get two? She wasn't sure, but she did know that she didn't want to feel alone.
"Shh, you're making a scene." She said to her raven. Sylvester? Nah, that seemed like a daft name now that she had him. She'd thought of names she could give a raven and she'd settled on Sylvester but it really didn't seem to suit the noisy sodding raven. Shitface seemed fitting but Jazzy was sure they just needed to bond, however she wasn't going to get a chance. A stray spell knocked the cage her raven was in, out of her hand. It crashed on the floor and the latch came loose. The bird was screeching and scrawing and whatevering noising the raven was making and just as Jazzy picked up the cage, the sodding animal flew out of it and up into the air. "Oi! Get back here!" She said, chasing the bird, not watching where she was stepping and tripping over the stuck out wheel of a street peddler's cart. She tumbled, landing on the ground, taking the brunt f the fall on her elbow. She hurried to her feet, the cage having fallen from her grasp was rolling towards Knockturn Alley, coming to the steps, "Stupid fucking bird." She mumbled, hobbling after the cage, hoping nothing dark and strange was heading out of the dodgiest place in Earth.

Death comes for us all in the end
The sounds from Diagon Alley weren’t concerning to Severus, as the place was bustling and always at least a little loud. He took the steps one at a time, watching his feet so that he needed make accidental eye contact with someone and be forced to either greet them politely or ignore them purposefully. Eyes to the ground meant you could feign ignorance in their presence and that was just the sort of socializing Sev was looking for today. Anymore than that and he’d had to hide in his parents’ house for a few days, avoiding people. Severus was the typical introvert, only reaching out of his comfort zone if something was really worth it. Like Lily. She’d been worth it completely. Lily was the opposite, an extrovert. It was fitting, as opposites attract, and she could nudge Severus into doing things he wasn’t always comfortable with and he could encourage her to take a night in for herself once in a while. They really were quite wonderful together, before Potter.
Potter seemed to be where his thoughts eventually always turned to as of late, and it was maddening. He was beginning to be concerned that he was becoming obsessed, but everyone knew that if you were aware of a problem then it couldn’t be that much of a problem. Take his father for instance. Tobias was a drunk if there ever was one, yet the man had no sodding clue that there was anything amiss. No recognition of the problem, ergo it’s a problem. Severus was fine, though he’d be more fine when Lily had called off her impulsive marriage and came back to the man who truly loved her.
Thinking on Lily was much more preferable than obsessing on Potter, but the distracted thoughts of their possible life together were short-lived as a bird cage came clanking down the steps nearly causing Severus to trip. He stumbled, but recovered thanks to a high, wide step that left him practically straddling the cage. “What the bloody hell is this, then?” he asked angrily to anyone and no one in particular. Grabbing the handle at the top of the cage, he pulled it out from between his legs with great force, smacking the bottom end into the brick building that lined the stairs.

Jazzy hobbled on one foot for a couple of paces, her shoe had come loose on her right foot and every time that she set it down it touched the cobblestone path. It wasn't easy in heels but she was managing. Thankfully the cage for the raven came to a stop. Unfortunately it timed itself to stop against a man's legs. Well more between them. And after a few clinker-clankers down the steps to Knockturn Alley. And said man happened to be coming out of Knockturn Alley, one of the darkest places Jazzy knew of in the magical world. She wasn't a fan of that place and she highly doubted she'd like the people there. It was the shady part of Diagon Alley that people spoke of in hushed whispers. It was rumoured to be a place that the likes of Death Eaters would hang out in.
As her gaze shifted up from the cage to the face of the man, he picked up the bird cage and the end swung and hit the building. Jazzy flinched but then realised who she was looking at. The years since leaving Hogwarts had not done Severus Snape many favours. Jazzy recalled seeing him a few times around the castle but he didn't stand out in her memory beyond a few pranks she'd seen James play on him. And also that nose. That was a god-awful nose he had. "Give us a hand, Snape." She said, Hobbling to the side of the building that flanked the steps. She lifted her right foot up and undid the strap on her shoe. She paid more attention to that than the dark haired man with her bird cage that was confused about what a bird cage was. Clearly he hadn't done all too well in school.
