Who's Your Daddy? Auri nodded stiffly, eyebrows raised as Euphadora revealed in a mousy little voice that she hadn't told her mother she was pregnant yet. Pregnant! "Oh," he said, with a few more nods, dinner forgotten about for the time being. "You've spared your mother the horror, have you? But we get-" he spun on Finley with wild eyes, half standing from his seat as he pointed a finger at his embarrassment of a son. "Is this yours?" he demanded, "Did you really-?" He couldn't even bear to say the words. If Finley had knocked up Euphadora Parkinson, there would be no returning from this, and Aurelius wanted nothing to do with the child, whether it would be his own flesh and blood or not. He would disown it while it was still in the tramps belly, and the thing wouldn't get a penny of the Avery fortune. Over Aurelius' dead body would that little whore get her hands on Auri's hard earned - and well hoarded - money. Merry merely sat, trying to politely pick at her meal as though nothing dramatic was happening at all, and Anna looked as though she'd just been married off to her favourite celebrity. This was no laughing matter! _______________________ tag: Euphadora Rose Parkinson and Finley Charles Avery words: 234 outfit: Smart casual. I dunno. Who's Your Daddy? Aurelius had just started chewing on a sprig of broccoli when Dora mentioned something about morning sickness. He coughed. His hand flew to his mouth to keep his food in there, beautiful blue eyes practically bulging out of his skull as he looked at Euphadora, and then at his son with a look of complete disbelief. Dear Holy Merlin, please tell me my boy isn't as stupid as I've always believed him to be, he prayed as he coughed and swallowed hard to get the broccoli to go down and behave. Merry looked at him with concern, Dora's comment seeming to have completely gone over her head. Not surprising, she wasn't the sharpest tool in the box. Still, she patted his hand and asked if he needed a napkin. Aurelius shook his head, swallowed once more and reached for his drink as he gave Euphadora a steely gaze. "I'm sorry, the morning what?" he snapped, sipping his drink as carefully as he could so that he didn't choke again. The morning sickness? Why in Merlin's name did she have morning sickness? Finley was no help, he merely sat there looking like a lamped rabbit. Aurelius waited for an explanation. _______________________ tag: Euphadora Rose Parkinson and Finley Charles Avery words: 224 outfit: Smart casual. I dunno. Who's Your Daddy? A far cry from the actual dining room, Auri and Meredith found their way into the smaller room next to the kitchen, food steaming in dishes on a round table. His lip curled at the sight. How disrespectful! To invite family for dinner, and then use the casual dining table for it was just insulting. Auri watched with disapproval as Finley showed Merry and Anna to their seats. At last he wouldn't be sat beside Parkinson or Finley, which was a blessing, but he was not happy at all about the table. He was Finley's father, he should have been sat at the head, in a position of respect. And he was the sodding Minister of Magic right now, that deserved double the respect! His son's curious gaze didn't deter him from drawing his wand and pointing it at the table. With a quick incantation and a flourish of his wand, the round edge of the table near his seat stretched and straightened, turning the entire table into a half oval shape. Much better. Satisfied that he now had a head to sit at, he pulled his chair out and sat himself down, reaching for his whiskey and taking a sip. Meredith reached for his hand and he gave it a reassuring squeeze. Her smile was filled with concern, but he paid it no attention. She had nothing to worry about, he had fixed what had irked him without a drama, and now they could eat and hopefully leave soon after. "The lamb looks a bit dry," he commented as the food finished serving itself and he poked at it with his fork. "Who made it, you or Euphadora?" His smile was warm and curious as he glanced between the two. "Oh, but the potatoes are lovely!" Meredith gushed, turning to Dora and trying to engage the wraith in conversation. She was such an admirable woman, his Meredith, engaging the poor like she did. "How are you keeping, darling? You look so thin, you must give me some tips." Aurelius zoned the women out and stuffed a sprig of broccoli into his mouth. Annabelle looked as fed up as he felt, and he was happy that at least one other person in the room had their head screwed on right. _______________________ tag: Euphadora Rose Parkinson and Finley Charles Avery words: 410 outfit: Smart casual. Who's Your Daddy? Aurelius stalked into the living room - one of them, Finley had a few, and Auri though it ridiculous that one young man needed so much space, it was a sheer waste of money - and through a door on the other side, finding himself in the library. It was smaller in here, and made him feel calmer, his gaze focusing on the titles of books on the shelves. It kept him distracted from being annoyed that his son was a willing victim of a little leech like Dora Parkinson. He had given Finley a deadline to find a girl and settle down, and that deadline was quickly approaching. He had five months left until his birthday. What if he got desperate and decided that Parkinson would do in a pinch? The thought horrified Auri no end, and he wondered if he was pushing the boy too hard to marry. He had to be hard on Finley, it was the only way to keep him in line, but he was the kind of lad who would act in a rash manner if he thought it was his only option. His fist pressed to his lips as he imagined his son announcing his engagement to Euphadora. "Over my dead body," he muttered darkly, knowing he was winding himself up but unable to help it. "Auri, darling, does this dress make me look drab?" Meredith came into the library looking worried, and he turned and grabbed her roughly, kissing her with a fire fuelled by his self inflicted anger. She responded eagerly, taking his kiss as reassurance that she was far from drab. He pulled away after a minute or two, gasping for breath. "Why does he test me, Meredith?" he breathed, his forehead resting on hers. "He's just finding his feet. He'll do you proud, you'll see." She sounded so confident, but he wondered if she'd given it any real thought at all. She had gotten so good at telling him what he wanted to hear that it was hard to tell. The scent of lamb and potatoes wafted into the room, and he glanced at the door. "Maybe he brought Euphadora to serve us for the night," he said with an amused smile as he led his wife back through the house towards the dining room. "Dinner certainly seems to be moving along now she's here."_______________________ tag: Euphadora Rose Parkinson and Finley Charles Avery words: 424 outfit: Smart casual. I dunno. Who's Your Daddy? Finley was pissing about in the hall with the coats, and Aurelius couldn't understand a word he was saying, but he thought he caught something about more guests coming. Why hadn't he mentioned this earlier? It was rude to spring surprises on a dinner party like that, and Finley had been raised better than that. Aurelius didn't know what kind of people he was mixing with over here in leprechaun land, but they were obviously lacking manners of any kind, and it pissed him off no end to think of the hard work he had put into raising his son being undone by a load of rambunctious pixies. It was unacceptable, but he couldn't really do anything about it. Finley was an adult now, and this was his home, so he could run it as he saw fit, but he certainly wouldn't be getting Auri's approval any time soon. Annoyed by the thought of random people turning up for dinner, he gave his wife a look that told her he wasn't happy, and she immediately swept to his side. "Darling, it's probably just a friend. It might even be a girlfriend," she said, eyes lighting up at the thought. "Has he mentioned any girls to you?" Aurelius shook his head, taking his wife's hand and gripping it tight as she tried to smooth his shirt out to soothe him, but only managed to irritate him with her fussing. "No, it's not likely to be anyone respectable, is it. He's gone off the rails." His face was dark as he spoke, voice clipped, but he didn't want to be in such a foul mood so early. They had a whole dinner to sit through yet, he needed to control his temper if he could. There was no chance of that just yet, because the doorbell rang, and before he could even think about it his feet were stomping across the room towards the hall. Finley was still fussing with coats like a house elf, and so Aurelius took it upon himself to see who would be joining them. It wasn't as though he could hold himself back, he just had to know. He grabbed the door handle and tugged it open, standing tall as his gaze dropped lower and lower until it fell upon Euphadora Parkinson, looking like a little slut on the doorstep. Fitting. "Euphadora," he said, tone lacking any warmth as he heard Finley rushing to the door behind him. "How delightful." He stepped back, allowing her to come inside and trying his best not to snarl at her. Fin's little obsession with this girl was beyond bizarre and shameful to say the least. She hung around a well to do pureblood lad just to try and keep her claws into pureblood society, and Finley allowed her to. He was a fool, and Auri hated it. Hangers on were a burden on good families like theirs, and she was a parasite, sucking his son dry. "Euphadora, you look lovely!" Meredith's voice sounded behind him, and Aurelius swept from the room, leaving his wife to make a fuss of the urchin. _______________________ tag: Euphadora Rose Parkinson and Finley Charles Avery words: 551 outfit: Smart casual. Who's Your Daddy? Aurelius smoothed his hair in the mirror in the hall, his wife, Meredith, coming up behind him and planting a kiss on his cheek, the imprint of her pink lips left behind on his skin. He turned to face her, sapphire eyes roving up and down her curves, which were wrapped in a pale pink dress that clung in all the right places. She was younger than him, but it was never enough for her, and she worked hard to look as stunning as she did. Aurelius appreciated it greatly, and he always made sure to make a fuss of Meri and make her feel as fabulous as she was, and she more than returned the favour, stroking his ego at every opportunity. They were a perfect match, as far as he was concerned, and as he pulled her in to kiss her, he thought that he would never tire of her, no matter how long they had been together. "Be kind to Finley tonight, won't you," she requested as they got their coats, ready to leave. "You know I hate arguments, they give me terrible frown lines."Aurelius merely grunted in response. He would not and could not commit to holding his temper when his son was involved. The lad knew just how to get under Auri's skin, and the arrogance he possessed would always need knocking down a peg or two. Buying a nightclub, moving to Ireland, still not married, engaged, or even dating. It was embarrassing, and Aurelius would remind his son every chance he got, that he was not doing his best by the Avery name. Why Finley wanted to shame their family by behaving in such a way was beyond Aurelius, and he wondered if Finley was even his son at all, because he certainly didn't fall in line with his father like all of the other heirs did. He couldn't really deny the lad though, since they looked so alike; tall, dark hair, the same blue eyes, dashing smile, good style. It was just that attitude that needed fixing. Auri had been trying since Fin was a boy, doing everything he could to try and discipline him and keep him in line, but he was determined to go his own way. It was distressing, to say the least. Well, Auri was Minister now, for a while, anyway, and Finley would have to make a much bigger effort now that their family were under public scrutiny. He looped Meri's hand beneath his arm, and they disapparated together, landing with a pop outside of Finley's ridiculous mansion, if you could even call it a mansion. It was more like a giant log cabin, and surrounded by rivers and lakes. So uncouth, and it cost far too much money for something lacking class and sophistication. Shaking his head at the sight of it, Auri crossed the gateway, entering the drive where his beautiful daughter was waiting. "Annabelle, you're early," Auri said, bursting with pride at his daughter following in his footsteps. She was a delight, she really was, and he embraced her warmly, pulling her to his other side and walking both women up to the front door. Finley took far too long to answer and let them inside, and Auri let the women in first, waiting patiently in the autumn chill as his son greeted him. "I see you still refuse to keep house elves," he said as he stepped inside and took off his coat, handing it to his son, his wife and daughter doing the same. He made some effort, and closed the door behind him while Finley was buried under coats. He made his way into one of the living areas, running his hand along the back of a chair, inspecting everything in the room with a judgemental eye. "Is dinner ready?" he asked, voice carrying out to the hall. "I'm starved." Why Finley insisted on shunning house elves was beyond Auri, it was the silliest thing he had ever heard. Being scared of a little servant. Pathetic. The one good thing that came from it was that his son had turned out to be quite a good cook over the years, and that was one thing Aurelius couldn't criticise, though he would try. There were many elements to a Sunday lunch that could be less than perfect. There would be something that would give him an opening to press the house elf issue again. _______________________ tag: Euphadora Rose Parkinson and Finley Charles Avery words: 772 outfit: Smart casual. PERSONALITY Boggart: His dead son. Finley would be killed before he had had a chance to produce an heir, and the Avery name would be no more. Mirror of Erised: Just himself as he is. He has everything he wants in his own life, a successful job, a beautiful wife, he's on the right side of the war. He would simply see himself with nothing changing. Possibly shadows of his children would be behind him, living their own lives and doing him proud. Patronus: Bull Shark - As a Death Eater, Aurelius cannot produce a Patronus, but if he did it would be the most vicious of all sharks, his happy memory being the day his son was born (even if he did grow up to be a thorn in Aurelius' side). The pride he felt at finally getting that heir goes unmatched to this day.
Aurelius Avery is a dick. Can I just leave it at that? No? Damn. Okay, well, he's arrogant, egotistical, proud, selfish, temperamental, perfectionist, aggressive, did I say temperamental? He always had a strong personality even as a young boy. He would not be pushed around, and he would not settle for being second best in any situation. He liked to be the top dog with his friends, and had an innate ability to arse kiss adults so perfectly that they thought him a respectable young lad who would go far in life. They weren't wrong, he possessed the drive to work his arse off and be seen as a leader amongst his peers, and managed to be popular, if not a bit scary, through his school years and into his adult life.
Very proud, he likes to have the best things life has to offer, but the only problem with that is, Aurelius is a tight arse, he hates to part with his hard earned (and hugely inherited) fortune, and is really bloody scroogey when it comes to forking out cash for things. That being said, what he does have is all impressive, and impeccable quality, and if anyone dares lay a finger on any of his prized belongings, they will lose said digit. His vanity and love of things that look good extends to women, too, and he counts himself lucky to have a wife that is elbow deep in beauty products on a daily basis. She doesn't look her age, and Aurelius even copies her skincare routines to try and slow his own ageing process, which is actually working a bit. He looks bloody amazing, and that body! Wow! And forget about having a hot airhead for a wife, there's room for more in that area, too. He loves a beautiful woman, and is not averse to the odd affair or casual fun in a cupboard at work.
Despite his cheating ways he is loyal to his family, and he considers them to be his everything, and wants them to be the best that they can be, just like he tries to do himself. He is hard on his children, and particularly Fin, believing tough love is the answer. His temper controls him when it comes to Fin. Annabelle was always compliant and well behaved, following the rules her father set, but Fin would wander and stray, and have to be brought back in line with a firm hand. Aurelius has no patience when it comes to being disobeyed, and during Anna and Fin's childhood, he found it hard to parent without the use of his fists. He angers easily, though in public it simmers beneath the surface, and the need to relieve that fury doesn't go away quickly. He can hold onto volatile feelings for weeks, months, years. His family know not to cross him, well, except for Finley, who frustrates his father on a daily basis. It is taking every ounce of self control Aurelius has to deal with his sons choices in life. Controlling should be his middle name.HISTORY Mother: Primrose Avery, pureblood, Slytherin Alumni, deceased aged 80. Father: Cornelius Avery, pureblood, Slytherin Alumni, deceased aged 80. Siblings: Corona Vaile, 45, pureblood, Ravenclaw Alumni, Charms teacher, blood traitor, disowned. Partners: Meredith Avery nee Gray, 43, housewife, Slytherin Alumni. Others: Annabelle Avery, daughter, pureblood, 23, Slytherin Alumni. Finley Avery, son, pureblood, 22, nightclub owner, Slytherin Alumni. Charles Gray Snr, father in law, pureblood, 71, Slytherin Alumni. Annabelle Gray, mother in law, pureblood, 69, Ravenclaw Alumni. Charles Gray Jr, brother in law, pureblood, 45, Ravenclaw Alumni. Born in the third week of 1927, Aurelius was the eldest child of a wonderful pureblood couple. Respectable and ranking high on the social ladder, Cornelius and Prim Avery had everything they could ever want, riches, status, friends in all the right places, a wonderful son, and a promising life ahead of them. They raised Aurelius to know that he was special, that he was great and something to be celebrated, and it stuck with the boy. Pureblood supremacy, though not something to cause a war at the time, was important to the Sacred 28 families, and Aurelius was taught this and every other rule of being a truly pure child, though his temper often got the better of him, and his parents often worried that it would affect how he was seen in social circles. Fortunately for them, he kept the majority of it for behind closed doors, and would lose his temper with his family, somehow able to play the charming, confident young man around others. His temper was flared that bit more when at the age of eight, he became a brother. Corona was a beautiful little baby, raven hair and bright blue eyes, but Aurelius was instantly jealous of her, preferring his old life of being the only child, of being special and spoiled. He didn't like sharing his parents with someone else.
He only had to put up with his baby sister for three years before he got to go off to Hogwarts and leave Corona behind. He took to the journey with great ego and self-assuredness, and was sorted into Slytherin like both of his parents. He did well in his studies, having a keen mind, and he made friends who practically worshipped him. He was popular, and anyone who didn't like him felt his wrath and at least learned to pretend to like him. For someone who thought so highly of themselves, Aurelius had no real ambition in life when it came to a career, and his father worked at the Ministry at the time of Aurelius' graduation and told him that he could get him a job in a comfortable department. Aurelius was particularly good at Transfiguration, and so the Portkey office seemed right up his alley when his dad told him that he'd gotten his name down for a position there. It wasn't grand, like Aurelius, but it was work, and he could always change his job, or climb the ladder as time went on, it wasn't permanent.
He moved into his own home, a mansion gifted to him by his own grandparents, and had worked in the Portkey office for a whole year before his father sent an owl one day inviting his son for lunch. As Aurelius, the womanising young stud had thought, it was time for him to be assigned a wife. Sally Crouch. She was blonde and pretty enough, and two years older than Aurelius. He got along fine with her for a time, and they married after a year long engagement, but she didn't capture his attention and he found himself straying whenever another girl caught his eye. He was twenty five when Sally first fell pregnant, a whole five years into their boring marriage. She lost the child early on in the pregnancy, and promised a furious Aurelius that they would try again immediately. He wanted an heir, he needed an heir, someone to carry on the great Avery name. As if the fact that it had taken them five years to conceive wasn't stressful enough, now she couldn't carry? What had his father married him off to? Two years later, Sally fell pregnant a second time, and once again, lost the child before it likely even had a heartbeat. She contracted an infection from the loss, and despite getting the best treatment at St. Mungo's, Sally was not strong enough to fight it, and she died a few weeks later.
Aurelius was wifeless and childless at the young age of twenty seven. This was not what he had envisioned for himself, and his disappointment in his father's ability to choose a wife for him was immense. He declared that he would find his own wife, and forbade his parents from having any involvement in it, dedicating himself to his work for now, where he was slowly clawing his way up the ladder in the Magical Transportation office. A new secretary was hired the following summer, Meredith Gray, a young pureblood only eighteen years of age. She was absolutely beautiful, dark hair, big blue eyes, and sexy as hell, and Aurelius fell hard for her. He pursued her relentlessly, and Meredith put up hardly any fight. She knew he was a catch, and probably above her station in life, despite her blood status, and so she latched on to his hot body and his sexy money and never let go. They married within a year, and Meredith bore him a child not long after Aurelius' twenty ninth birthday. He was a father before he was thirty after all, though the only problem was, it was a girl. Annabelle was perfect, just like her mother, but she was not good enough. A female heir was no heir at all, and though Meredith was absolutely terrible with babies and children, and the couple were not in the least bit cut out for enjoying parenting, Meredith did what any good wife should, and she gave him a second child.
Finley was Aurelius' only dream. The only thing he had ever wanted in life. A son. And he was the image of his father, strong, handsome, a head full of luscious hair and sapphire eyes to captivate the heart of anyone who peered into them. He was a wonderful baby, quick to learn, and full of self confidence, though Aurelius found it stressful having two toddlers running around his perfect home, and it seemed only Annabelle was willing to follow the strict set of rules Aurelius set upon his children. Finley would not listen no matter how many times it was drilled into him, and so Aurelius' temper began to be directed at the tot more and more. First he would shout, then roar, then eventually he began adding smacks into the mix, and when none of it worked, and a seven year old Finley was caught snooping around in his father's office, fists became the go to punishment, along with the thing Aurelius knew his son feared. The basement. For some reason, Finley had a fierce dislike for the basement, refusing to go in there if he was ever asked to, even when accompanied by an adult. Maybe it was the dark, or the old portraits that had been dumped in there. Either way, it seemed to do the trick in quelling the boy's naughtiness, and so Aurelius did it often, not missing the hateful, fearful looks his son gave him. How disappointing that his biggest dream, his heir, had turned out to be disobedient and arrogant.
He did his best to raise his children with the same morals and beliefs that he had been raised with himself, and he fell in with a crowd who were dedicating themselves to a man of rising power, a man who swore to free the wizarding world of its binds, and to help them rise above muggles and allow magic to rule the world. These people called themselves Death Eaters, and Aurelius fell into their ranks easily. It just so happened that this man had been Aurelius' very own dorm mate through school, and a man he had called friend, Tom Riddle. He knew Tom well enough to know that he would see his vision come to life, and he understood that every promise made by Lord Voldemort would come to fruition. Such power emanated from the man, that Aurelius couldn't help but want to latch on to it, to be a part of it, to shine alongside this army. His job was a bonus for the Dark Lord, and he was encouraged to keep climbing the ladder until he had complete control over the Magical Transportation office, which is exactly what he did. His children where away at Hogwarts, and Aurelius put all of his focus into clawing his way into being the Head of the Department, finally achieving his goal not long after turning fifty. He has been in the position for two and a half years now, and considers himself pretty indispensable to the Dark Lord because of it. His daughter is as wonderful as ever, his wife as beautiful as ever, and his son a huge disappointment, refusing to follow in Aurelius' footsteps, and instead purchasing himself a nightclub to run. A nightclub! Despite the club being a success, Aurelius feels shame when he thinks about the path his son is walking down. Yes, Finley is proving to be a great Death Eater, but he is failing in every other area of his life. He doesn't even have a wife yet, which is unacceptable to Aurelius, and he intends to beat some sense into Finley told him that if he hadn't found a girl to marry by his twenty second birthday. Aurelius would choose a wife for the boy and he will be grateful, and he will continue the Avery line, Aurelius has nothing left to work towards, having achieved all of his own goals in life, so controlling the life of his son is his main focus.
